Text area too wide in Forums

Sometimes but not always, pages on this forum show up extra wide so the text goes off the side of the screen. If I scroll sideways I get to the end of a long long line, and sometimes, if the paragraph is long enough, the text wraps to a new line.
Other times the pages come out fine with paragraphs wrapped to a decent width.
I have seen different behavior in the same thread. I don't know what, if anything, makes it do the one vs. the other.
I'm running Camino 1.5.2 and tried Firefox 2.0.0.8 and Safari 3.0.2.

That page loads normally for me in Safari 3.1.1. Not to say that it it might not have a problem in some setups, different browsers, etc....
Edit: Ah, yes, in Firefox that thread really is very wide, isn't it. And it actually is caused by a long URL, the "http://www.newegg.com..." link in one of R. Berardi's posts, which wraps to three lines in my Safari but doesn't wrap in Firefox. It seems that Safari and Firefox have different line-wrapping behavior, where Safari will wrap some text after certain characters but Firefox will not.

  • Bookmark panes are too wide

    My FF5 bookmark panes are too wide. I've found suggestions in the database to edit site titles to shorten them. Having to edit bookmark webpage titles is unacceptable. That means external website naming practices can take over my browser's bookmark display characteristics.
    My Firefox 4. doesn't do wide bookmark panes - I reinstalled Firefox 4. and checked ( and left FF4 installed so I have a useful browser.) Something in FF5 has changed, maybe an unknown preferences file
    Old questions/answers in the help database about FF4 behavior when FF4 was newly released suggest editing a userChrome.css file, but suggested edits are not working for me, and in any case I didn't have to do such with FF4 - it was usable out of the box. Also FF5 doesn't seem to be opening userChrome.css anyway.
    What gives?

  • Photoshop CC icons and text are too small: how to adjust so they're readable? [was: Joanne]

    I have just downloaded Creative Cloud on a new computer.  The new photoshop icons and text are too small for me to see or work with.  I cannot seem to adjust this so its "useable"

    Hey Bob,
    Ive put feature requests for this in before and I know many others have as well. Is there any way to see if Adobe is actually working on this? I dont really consider this a feature request, it should be standard with the software. A feature request would be something like creative cloud libraries, not the ability to make font sizes and icons bigger.

    I need to change the boolean text of boolean. But the size of buttons is increasing when the text is too wide.
    I have created a SubVI to avoid that. But it is taking some time to compute...
    If anyone has a better idea...
    The reason why I need that is becase I don't have control of what the user will put in the button.

    Right-Click on the Booleans and select "release text". This will decouple the size of the boolean from the size of the text.

  • Dreamweaver 12.0 - Fluid Grid Layout problem - I have 12 columns - but some DIV's are too wide

    http://skicmsc.org/NewResponsive.htm
    Working on a new look for a current site.  I have 16 columns. Left div is 3 columns, next is 7 columns, then 3 and 3. Total: 16
    The 7 column Div is pushing the right Div's off the layout by several "columns". If I delete the thing, everything is fine. Make it just 2 columns wide and the layout is messed up.  I've tried naming it different things, starting from scratch - twice. Still have the same problem. Deleted, recreated, moved up and down. Nested and not nested.  Next step is to say forget it.  Wasted four hours on this already.
    Screen grab of the layout - all looks nice and clean.
    Here's what it looks like (In Chrome, IE and Firefox.)
    What's really annoying - undo/Ctrl-Z does not undo "visual" changes.  I can edit text, resize a Div by dragging the right handle, do an Undo - and my text edit is changed - not the resize.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Rick Drew

    For best results, your LayoutDivs need to be wrapped inside the .gridContainer as it serves as the basic structure for your entire  layout (mobile, tablet and desktop).
    <div class="gridContainer clearfix">
         <div id="LayoutDiv1">
         </div>
         <div id="LayoutDiv2">
         </div>
         <div id="LayoutDiv3">
         </div>
         <div id="LayoutDiv4">
         </div>
    <!--end gridContainer--></div>
    Design View Screenshot
    When you put Divs outside the .gridContainer, this can create rounding problems in many browsers because the inner div widths are all set in fractional percentages rather than whole numbers.  Browsers don't fully understand how to render widths in fractions.
    In the following example, I have the same set-up as shown in my screenshot above except my footer div is intentionally located outside the gridContainer.  This allows my footer to be 100% page width.

    If you understand and work within the limitations of FluidGridLayouts, they can save you a lot of time.

    mgwaltney,
    The most likely reason for this would be that the display resolution has been changed. You should first make sure that it is set correctly (at the maximum, "native" resolution if an LCD) in System Preferences>Displays.
    If the resolution has not been changed or set below the native resolution, then there's not much you can do beyond re-sizing windows as they appear. It shouldn't take too long to get everything back to normal.

  • 16:9 widescreen movie menus are too wide for the TV screen

    I shot a movie in 16:9 on my Canon Optura 600 camcorder and edited it in iMovieHD6. Imported it into iDVD6 and all was looking good. Burned it on the SuperDrive and when played back on my Sony XBR flat screen TV (Not widescreen), the 16:9 movie overscans and hides some of the theme menus at the sides. The movie looks "squashed." If I play it at 4:3 on the same TV the movie looks normal but the menus still don't fit. I went back into iDVD and changed the project to 4:3. In the preview mode, now all looks ok. The movie does not look flattened. Is this the way that 16:9 movies should be handled in iDVD6, that is, converted to standard and not wide screen, so that they run as a 16:9 movie letterboxed on the 4:3 screen? I played the DVD on a Sony widescreen LCOS SXRD projection TV and the movie fit better but part of the menus were still hiddden.

    Hi Steven,
    iDVD does some strange things with aspect ratios. It basically stems from the way it deals with the aspect ratio flag that your DVD player uses to set the screen resolution. iDVD internally sets the aspect ratio of the project to 16:9 auto pan & scan and letterbox. In essence this means that the output is contolled almost totally by the settings on you DVD player and TV.
    In an ideal world iDVD would give you the option to set the aspect ratio to 16:9 letterbox therefore forcing the picture to letterbox on a 4:3 TV. This would give more consistent results across varying equipment.
    Added to this, some TV's and DVD players will by design cut off some of the edges of the available picture. This is normal and should be allowed for when creating your DVD. You can use the Show TV Safe option (apple T) to show the safest area to place titles and menus in.
    The way DVD's work and the method by which aspect ratios are handled is a complicated subject for which there's not enough space here but if you're really interested in having a little more control over the way your DVD works then I can highly recommend myDVDedit:

    It's free and a great tool. It even has a guide to fix exactly your problem. Downside is you need a little bit of a learning curve to fully understand the way a DVD works.
    Basically you could create a disk image on you hard disk and edit the results to set the aspect ratio to force a 16:9 letterbox therefore ensuring more reliability.
    Alternatively you could create your DVD's as normal (ensuring that you set the project correctly to 16:9 to match your footsge) and adjust the settings on your DVD player to 16:9 letterboxed. That might work but you'd have to ensure that this is set correctly on all of the DVD players you use your disks on.
    I hope I haven't confused the living daylights out of you.

  • Palettes are too wide

    Please check this screen:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/48653941@N03/4457110644/sizes/l/
    This  is the standard width of my palettes. I can expand them, but not make  them less wide. For example, I can't make my actions palette a single  column. It seems a little unnecessary to me, and I find it quite  irritating since they eat up valuable space on my screen.
    I  run Photoshop CS4, Windows version 11.0.1. Screen resolution is  1680x1050 (native). I have already tried to erase the prefs file, with  no luck.
    Best regards
    Matt.

    Well, for me, PS just behaves beautifully on dual calibrated 21" CRT's. I have all of my Palettes open on the right, and the images on my left.
    When I have to work on a single monitor, even a wide-screen (have not tried on an Apple Cinema 30"), I usually leave most Palettes in the little tabbed toolbar, and only use the ones that I want, when I want them. On the workstation, I can have them all open and arranged exactly as I like them.
    Personal preferences, I guess.

  • Using Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5. Menu and text are too small on my 4k Display.

    I am running Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5 on my windows 8.1 laptop with 4K display. Where is the option to increase the size of menu and font? The menu looks fine on my mac book pro retina display at work, so I know it has to be possible. Please help.

    You can go to Edit>Preferences>Interface>UI Font size and increase the font size a little.  Whether that will make any difference on a 4K display I don't know.  CC 2014 has an option ("Experimental") to increase the UI size by 200% for high density displays.  Sorry - not much help.

  • Pin tabs are too wide in Firefox 29

    In Fx29 (Mac version), Pin (or App) tabs, of which I have 15-25 present at any time, now occupy so much screen space — approximately twice as much as in Fx28 — that I have hardly any space left to see my regular tabs. Can this be customised? I don't mind editing config files in the Profile, as long as I get some clear instructions about how to proceed.

    Thanks a lot, cor-el, I had look into that possibility. But I had also understood, from another thread, that it was a bit buggy, and that the UI had to be reset at about every relaunch of Fx. I wasn't looking forward to that for this (so far) one and only wish, nor to having to ''"switch to a new clean profile (or at least delete 'localstore.rdf' from profile folder)"'', according to the Classic Theme Restorer's programmer's own instructions.
    On the other hand, I also found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/981910?esab=a&as=aaq this thread] and [https://support.mozilla.org/pt-BR/questions/930273 this one] about '''''expanding''''' the screen size of the App Tabs. I suppose it's only a question of editing the pixel size, but I couldn't quite figure the instructions you yourself had given in reply.

  • Pages are too wide.

    I have set up a site where the background fades into the browser's background left and right outside the browser window. I cannot put the background as an image in the browser's background because it varies in height from page to page.
    When I export the site and view it in the browser, a scroll bar appears that enables the viewer to scroll to the right corner of the background image.
    How do I prevent the browser from adding a horizontal scroll bar in this case?

    Unfortunately the site is confidental until my presentation on wednesday. But after the appointment with my client I will post the link.
    For my presentation it is good the way it is. But the final site must have no bugs.

  • Distorted video - too wide

    I have posted about this on Crackberry.com.  But maybe should bring it up here.
    The main problem is that when viewing a video on my Z10, images are stretched left to right and so people are wider than normal and also objects like buildings, etc also are too wide.  It is less noticeable in landscape screens.  Upon a suggestion I received today, I opened the same video in the Z10's Browser and the video is NOT distorted.  But I think that the app should work properly.
    Here's some extracts from the thread:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-z10-f254/distorted-video-too-wide-849144/
    I copied a homemade mp4 file to the z10 of one of my vacation trips (I create a dvd movie from the digital photos). The image is "widened" and frankly I don't need any help in the WIDENING area. It seems to show correctly on my PB and on my computer. But on the Z10 it is wide. Pinch does not HOLD - bounces right back to wide.
    There does not seem to be a setting to alter this behavior or appearance. If not connected to the tv, the DISPLAY/hdmi setting is grayed out.
    I just created a new video. Since the phone was going downstairs, I copied the mp4 video to the phone. Plugged it into my tv but, once again, the images are distorted - too wide. So the screen is spread left to right and people are too wide. The effect is less noticeable on Scenery but you can see it for buildings and such. And, it is not just on my TV but it is also evident on the Z10, itself. So, the z10 appears to not be displaying the image or video WIDTH correctly.
    I then copied the same video to my Playbook (another BB device) and the video is fine and NOT DISTORTED.
    I am still on the original Verizon bb10.1.xxxxxxxxxxxx OS.
    Any idea if there is a setting on the phone that I am missing.
    **bleep**! I had not thought about opening the video in the Browser. You are RIGHT - the video proportions are correct when opened in the Browser. So this is a definite bug in the Video app's software or settings. Of course, one should not have to go into the browser to view videos because the app is BROKEN.
    I wonder if Kalemsoft or other video apps performs correctly?
    When I first posted the thread, I did not know if it was my desktop software's coding or resolution or .... So I burned off the video in format after format to no avail. I am somewhat surprised that no one else has raised this issue. Maybe I will take it to the official bb forum.
