Text Auto-Correct

Does anyone know of a free and decent auto-correction application for OS X? I've so far only found the usual purchasable ones, Typinator, SpellCatcher, etc.
Thanks for any help...

Hi chuckk,
I understand the importance of having a streamlined text experience.  I would suggest deleting some of the auto-saved words from the dictionary. Settings>Language & Keyboard>User Dictionary.  Press on hold the word you no longer want and the select delete.  I am hopeful this information is helpful.  Please let me know if you need further assistance.

  • Text auto-correction is turning on again!

    Hi all!
My iPhone4 is running iOS 5.0.1 and I'm very happy!
But it recently turns text auto-correction on. I turn it off, but sometime later I found it turned on again
I can't understand what causes it to do this. How can I turn this feature absolutely off?

What troubleshooting have you tried over these few days? You charging the phone? Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. This can take up to 60 seconds.

  • How can I turn off text auto-correct in Number IOS?

I use Numbers as a project workbook and it drives me insane I cant turn off text auto-correct. I use a bunch of abbreviations that Numbers wont allow without constantly changing to the extent that its almost useless.

Auto correct is controlled at the system, not apps, level (with a few possible exceptions, but Numbers isn't one of them).

  • Text auto-correct grabbing words from gmail / etc.

I'm not sure if this is a Gingerbread issue, but this is a problem that I was introduced to when I got my Xperia PLAY.
The on-screen QWERTY keyboard lends itself to frequent typos.  Since I started using the Xperia, the auto-correct dictionary has been automatically synced and populated with various words that it apparently grabbed out of my gmail, email, contacts, address book, or elsewhere.   This includes names, segments of email addresses, already misspelled words, etc.
This has made the auto-correct function useless on my phone, and makes text messaging a convoluted and futile chore that' I'd simply rather not do.
For example, when I'm trying to send a text to someone asking them, "what time?"  -- I commonly typo "time" as "timr."
Now, auto-correct on my Xperia always wants to change "timr" into "TimeBomb4321" -- which is a segment of an email address out of my address book.
And, there's apparently no way to turn this off.
There's no way to toggle this under "Accounts & sync."
"User Dictionary" under Settings only includes words that I have manually added to it.
    HOW DO I FIX THIS???

  • Texting Auto-correction

Has anyone noticed with the Droid X if you type "I'm" it is left as "im" or "I" is left as "i" instead of correcting itself like it is done on other smartphones?  I've tried making sure "I'm" and "I" is added to the custom dictionary but it still doesn't auto correct like it should.  I have confirmed with other Android owners their phone auto corrects those words, seems it's only a X problem. I am VERY disappointed in my Droid X.

A workaround to this problem is....
"i" (swype above the keyboard to make it CAP)  "'" (swype down to the period/apostrophy) "m"
    not perfect, but it works.

  • Is there a way to Auto-Correct Spelling of text as I write text in Dreamweaver CS6 ?

While I write text on the html pages using Dreamweaver CS6 (Adobe Cloud downloaded version 2014), there is only an option to Spell Check the page.
But I am asking if there is a way to set preferences to auto-correct suggestions such as how Word Docs offer solutions to mis-spelled words?

    Thank you for your replies.
I am using Adobe, Creative Cloud /  Dreamweaver Software Program iMac Downloads, updated to current.
I believe there not to be the feature present in Dreamweaver on "Page View" to Spell Correct Automatically by giving word options, etc.
I know to spell check the entire page before posting the page(s) live.
I am not only writing in code view, designing HTML 5 pages, but  I am the Author and Editor of all content as well.
I can see how the coders would hate having text auto correct.
But, on the editor side, as a writer, from the page view, ... it would rock as an option.

  • Can I shut off auto-correct when typing text messages

When I am typing a text message, my phone auto corrects.  Is there a way to shut this feature off?

You can turn it off but it will be off for all uses on the phone, not just text messages. The on/off control is in Settings > General > Keyboard

  • Auto-correct spelling while texting

I had an HTC Incredible 2 for 2.5 years and it always auto corrected my spelling in text messages, which I just loved.
Now that I have my new Samsung Galaxy S4, it doesn't do that.  It suggests spellings, but doesn't change anything.  I'm so used to auto-correct that I keep sending texts that have misspelled words and it's driving me NUTS!!
I absolutely LOVE the S4's keyboard with the numbers on top (though I HATE that it doesn't have a comma on the front screen) and don't want to use another app that doesn't have that type of keyboard.
Any suggestions on how to make it auto-correct??  I can't find anything in settings regarding auto-correct.
    Thank you

Yes, my predictive text is toggled On, and I get suggested words and I can choose them, but my phone never fixes typos, ever.  My Incredible 2 just automatically corrected typos and I expected that with my new S4.
What a pain in the butt not to have a comma on the keyboard, but, yes, I found how to insert it with the long press.  I'm not a kid and I like to send texts as if I were speaking with punctuation and whole words.  All my friends, who are older as I am, like to do the same.
I've tried most of the keyboards in the Play Store, and 99% of them do not have the numbers at the top, which is a great feature.
I was also chatting with Samsung about it and they said they left out auto-correct.  Talk about going back into the dark ages!!

  • Where is a full list of text substitutions/auto-correct?

I use TextEdit a lot, and I love the Snow Leopard automatic text substitution feature, but I'm struggling to find where I can edit the list of what it corrects.
When I type "teh", I love that it corrects it to "the". That's great.
But I often use the abbreviation "ppl" for "people" when making notes, and under Snow Leopard, TextEdit keeps automatically correcting it to "pp.", which is not what I want.
When I go to System Prefs > Language & Text > Text, I see a short list of substitutions, including "teh", "(c)", and "1/2", but I don't see anything like "ppl" or any of the other words it auto-corrects. Am I missing another list somewhere? Is there a way to change this behavior?
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, but the problem with adding your own customized sub is that it always doesn't work. At least in Mail. I tried to substitute a semicolon with an apostrophe. I accidentally hit the semicolon instead of the apostrophe all the time. (Instead of "can't" I type "can;t"). In a new Mail message with the customized sub enabled, hitting the semicolon key locks Mail up with the spinning beach ball. I have to force quit it every time. The canned subs work fine & not sure if another customized sub would work. This was one I was hoping to use. Guess not!

Ok so i have an iphone 4 and I used it recently on a message board forum. i wanted to respond to a user that posted something and i typed " ^^^^ yea "

Go to Settings, General, Keyboard, Add New Shortcut and type the phrase and the shortcut you use to type the word. For example, ab would be about. You can go back and delete the shortcuts if you don't want them later.

I don't know about the first letter cap but the spelling is simple. Edit - Spelling and Grammar - Select While Typing and Correct Spelling Automatically.
