Text background shading in FM 10

I'm working on a textbook and we have a long example within a chapter that is about 2 pages long, however, the example flows over 3 pages (half on page 1,
full page 2 and the remainder on the top of page 3). I would like to set the example apart from the actual chapter text by shading the background. Is there a way to do this where the shading stays with the example text so that if I make other changes in the chapter the shading moves with the example?

If you put black text on a black background, then (depending upon security settings in the PDF) you can still copy & paste the "invisible" text.
Security features won't help. PDF is simply not secure against determined attackers. The only way to redact a PDF is for the text to flat not be there.
So AcroX has no new capabilities for K-on-K.
The redaction route that gets one in trouble.
As any number of hapless lawyers have discovered the hard way (that and Word metadata).
Acrobat Pro (9 for sure, perhaps earlier) has a specific feature for white-on-white* text. It can remove the text entirely. The problem is that it leaves white space, making the reader wonder: did they redact, or just run out of pixels?. It might be preferrable to leave deliberate black boxes so that the redaction is prominent.
However, leaving a series of black boxes, each representing the font extents of the redacted characters, is unwise. For starters, the reader knows exactly how many characters were redacted, and unless the font was changed for that text, they have a significant insight into the metrics. Reverse-engineering the exact text redacted might often require only a modest effort.
So if AcroX were to implement KonK redact, it would have to replace the entire series of font rectangles with one long rectangle.
Sounds like Acro hasn't even gotten to square one on that enhancement.
* W-on-W redaction cautions: If the text and bg whites are different by even one bit, the text remains (RGB white on CMYK white is OK, however). If any part of a white character is over a bg element that is not 100.00% white, the entire character remains.

Text Background Shading

In MS Word 2003 & similarly in 2007 I can easily use "Format | Borders and Shading" to quickly apply background shading to any selected text. This is extremely handy for emphasizing key phrases in certain types of sales documents. FrameMaker doesn't have an equivalent feature and I always hate having to revert back to MS Word when I need this feature.
I have posted a 'Feature Request' and would like to invite as many of you as possible to do likewise to increase our prospects for eventually getting this feature. I always use paragraph & character styles and it would seem trivial for FrameMaker to add this feature with all the capabilities they already have. I currently use FM 8.04 and have been using FM for about 18 years and sure would like to see this feature in a future release. So can any of you help spread the word? Thanks.

Thank you for this feature request. This feature is also requested by us. It is important, however, that it is fully functional and supported for structured documents too. That means that there has to be a way to express Text Backgroud Shading via EDD Layout Rules (Text or Paragraph properties).
None of the workarounds described above will work with structured documents.

Can one textfield have multiple text backgrounds?

Hello guys,
I have been trying to find a way to color the backgrounds of different words in a single textfield with different colors.
For an example, lets imagine the whole text is a story which has nouns and verbs...etc
Now I want to show the full text which is my story and highlight the background of nouns in blue, verbs in red.
Please see the attachment.
Then I have dedicated toggle buttons for each types. The use of those buttons is removing or showing those backgrounds. For an example and when user clicks on noun button it will remove or show the background of all the nouns. Same for the button for verbs.
Then you may ask why I can't achieve this by using separate textfield for each word in the story and line them like a paragraph.
The problem is user should be able to edit those text. So those are INPUT typed textfields. So all the words should move within the boundaries of paragraph when user keep changing one word. Please see the second attachment and you may see that I have changed the first word by typing "abcde", so as I type all other words should move like you type inside a textfield. So thats why I think if we can achieve it using single textfield rearranging words as user types is taken care of the textfiled so we don't need to place all the words manually.
When I was trying to think of a way to do it, I found that background is only a property of TextField, but not TextFormat.
If it was a property of textformat then I could have set different formats for different words in same textfield.
So that option is out.
Also I thought of using CSS with htmlText. But unfortunately text-background is not supported by actionscript stylesheet class.
I really appreciate if you can post your expert ideas to help me how to achieve this task.

How does one change the numeric text background color (NumText.BGColor property) on a numeric element of a cluster?
I see the property when a numeric is standalone, but don't see it when it is inside a cluster.

No, all array elements share the same properties. Only values can be different.
One solution would be to add a flat colorbox as additional cluster element and place in in the background. Now change the color as desired.

Why is my Macbook pro display text background yellow instead of white? This problem is intermitten and when it occurs the yellow tint flickers.

I turned off five times and turned on five times, display appear normal screen size.
I didn't use MacBook Pro for 2 days until today, I want install The Sims 3 World Adventure, Fast Lane Stuff and High-End Tech. I just turn on my MacBook Pro, display appeared (First to third photos). I tried same method as 22 June, but still never work as normal display. How can I fix it?

What's the fastest way to mock up text backgrounds in Photoshop?

Example text with text background layer , often seen on sites.
This is really tricky to mock up in Photoshop. I usually have to create shape layers which is easy enough, but you constantly have to edit them, as you play around with changed in line-height, letter-spacing, font-size, and font-family.

For web sites, I rarely use fixed images for backgrounds. There's so much you can do with CSS and background-colors, gradients, opacity, borders, shadows, etc... that images are almost un-necessary

Adobe Forms: Printing Header Text - Background as Dark

Hi,
We are upgrading our ECC system to Enahncement Pack 5.
We have Adobe forms for Sales Order, Delivery Notes,... In Border Palatte, we have set 'Solid' as a background fill for our header texts
After applying patches, Adobe forms started printing header texts background very Dark.We are not able to read the texts. If I view the document in the spool then they are displayed correctly. If I save spool document on the desktop and print it then also output is printed as we want. Only when we print it directly through VA01, VA02 ( directly from SAP ) then it gives this error.
I removed the background fill then it prints text correctly but then I loose the separation between header and content.
I will appreciate any help in this regard

Hi mrudul,
as usual in programming, you got different ways to solve the problem. So if you work through the content here on SCN you will find a lot of examples how to decide between different letter heads. The easiest solution (and might be the best) is to pass the necessary data via the interface and do not add any condition in the form itself.
How to create a dynamic field and all the stuff is very basic knowledge, so I think you do not need any explaination how to do that. If so I refer you to the official documentation provided by SAP.
If you have some minutes please work through this blog Before You Ask - Just another guide and phrases like "urgent" or "do reply" are just not necessary to get an answer

Setting colour of text background

I automatically generate mail from FileMaker, attaching a PDF of my data. Filemaker generates an outgoing message with the file attached and then passes me to Mail so that I can modify it and send it. This morning, the accompanying text has a black background. I can change the text colour and the document colour but can find no way of removing this black background. It would be a normal thing to do in an Word document or an HTML document, change the "text background", but not in Mail! Any ideas please?

Hate to say it but me too (from the Filemaker side). Happened right after installing S5. Worse it now shows the PDF in one of those windows that displays an X in the upper left corner. The simple solution is cut the PDF file from the stinking window, delete the window and paste the PDF back in. How could they screw this up? The whole window viewer is an annoyance as it often pops up when I least expect it on replies, making it very hard to trim quoted text in a reply. What is wrong with simple?

If you literally mean the text background.
It's a contentcontrol.
You can put whatever you like in it to hold the text.

Annoying text shadows and text backgrounds...

I agree with Chiatanya... the text shadows are very annoying! So too are the text backgrounds. I updated from 10.2.4 and didn't have either of those problems. Does anyone know of a way to eliminate the text background and/or text shadow? Transparent color???

Hi Richard, when any file or folder on the destop is selected it exhibits the "text background" you are showing and when it not selected the text has a drop shadow. There may be some haxie out there that will change it for you but I know of no way to accomplish that from within the system.

Section Header Text Background Color

Hi have a catalog that has a running section header that will be placed over a black graphic the width of the page header. I would like to have a white background box appear the length of the header section text, but not be the full length of the text box defined on the master pages for the header. I would like to do this in an automated fashion rather than manual placing the graphic around the header text on each page. It won't work to place a white box under the text as it is part of the background already being a master page item, or am I missing something. In brief can I have a background color that dynamically adjusts to the length of a text string?

If that text has a character style (or if it doesn't give it one) make the character style include an underline, then make that underline really thick and give it a baseline shift. The same technique is commonly used for highlighting. There's a few other options you can play around with in the underline options too.

Anyone knows Code For Text Background Color

Hello Everyone. I am making a game Black Jack. I did averything the game is working perfectly but with one BUG!. I put a picture of casino table in the backgground...and when i ask the user to enter if he wants to hit or stay ...my backround color where im typing is WHITE ...so it screws half of the picture...it goes over the picture.....so im wondering if there is a code to set textBackgroundColor to "TRANSPARENT"...so when i enter "hit" or "stay"...it just types the words put behind the words is the picture i set...not the white background behind the text....i dont know if you can understand me good....but tnx for help anyways!!

hmmm...it appears that the code is right...because wheni wrote c.setTextBackgroundColor (Color.Translucent); ........it tells me that there is no color Translucent but that there is TRANSLUCENT....same thing just with capitals...and when i put that in it wont work....just gives an error saying "No applicable overload for the method named setTextBackgroundColor was found in type hsa.Console....thank you very much though...
