Text Box Inset Guides

InDesign CS4 does't seem to show Text Box Inset margins as guides when text box is selected just once with Selection Tool (i.e not dble-clicked to edit text). The Inset values can be discerned through opening up Text Frame Options dialogue box, but within CS2 they would be viewable as guides (which helped with exact alignment) when Text Box was selected once. Note: when Text Box is dragged to new position they appear momentarily whilst being dragged - not much use! Any help much appreciated.

Ok
I made a text frame there. I put insets of 5mm in there.
I can see the insets. But when i go to the type tool the inset preview disappears.
I ctrl click to move the frame and they temporarily appear. But once the type tool is active in the frame the inset preview is gone.
CS3.

  • Indesign CS3 : Inset spacing preview in text box not there anymore.

    Hi!
    In Indesign CS2, I could see a "preview" of the inset spacing of my text boxes in "Preview Mode (W)".
    In Indesign CS3, I can't see it anymore unless I move my text boxes (the preview of the inset spacing of my text boxes shows only when I move the boxes).
    This is bad, because I can't see really fast which boxes have inset spacing and which ones don't.
    Please help me!
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Yes.
    Normal Mode hides all of those things. But Preview Mode shows all of those things (unless otherwise selected in the "View" menu).
    I need to see the inset spacing of my text boxes in Preview Mode without having to move them.
    Here is an image of my text box in Preview Mode (guides, invisible characters, etc. are visible, but not the inset spacing): http://www.chris.lafacade.com/share/01.jpg
    Here is an image of my text box in Preview Mode while I move my box. As you can see, the inset spacing shows: http://www.chris.lafacade.com/share/02.jpg
    I need the inset spacing to show all the time in Preview Mode.
    Thanks!

  • Can you no longer have a background color for the text box in the new version of hp photo creations

    just updated to the new version of HP Photo Creations, used to be able to have a colored background for the text box - is that no longer possible in this new (not better) version????!!!!! Uuuuuuuuuugh

    Hi Lainey.
    Thanks for asking. We're working on bringing back that feature. In the meantime, here's another way to add text backgrounds: Add a placeable graphic and then click the Arrange button to send it to the back, behind the text.
    That approach also gives you more interesting shapes. The new alignment guides make it a snap to align a graphic with a text box. In the example below (it may take a day for the image to show up here), I also used the new Premium Editing Features to change the color of the graphic.
    P.S. — Applying a thick border to an empty text box (also using the Premium Editing Features) is another way to create a background shape. That has the advantage of letting you pick any color for the box. You'll also find several new text styles at the bottom of the new text menu.

  • Text box Vertical Justification greyed out in CS4

    Does anyone know why the ability to vertically justify my text boxes is disabled?  It is only in this one document (although, I think I remember this occurring in another).  The option is greyed out in the Text Frame Options window and will not allow me to click on the options in the tool bar.  This is rather frustrating and can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it.  Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Mel

    Prior to CS5 you can't vertically justify any frame in which the text area is not rectangular. Not only can text wrap change the shape of a text area, but so can corner effects  (adding enough inset will get past this), and of course the use of non-rectangular frames.
    Thanks, Peter.  I had already adjusted the top inset enough to achieve the look I was looking for.  That's good to know about the corner effects.  That is actually when I experienced this before and used insets to achieve my desired look then, too.
    Peter's pointing out that you could inadvertently move just one of the corners with the direct selection tool and have a frame that isn't a rectangle and then you loose the text box vertical justification option. If you are on OSX you can use this script to square up a selected skewed box:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
    set {a, b, c, d} to geometric bounds of selection
    set entire path of path 1 of selection to {{b, a}, {d, a}, {d, c}, {b, c}}
    end tell

  • Text box not empty conditional statement

    I've been asked to develop a survey and, in several places, a
    score is given for the completion of text box. However, if there is
    no text in the box, then a score of zero should be given.
    I thought the best way to do this would be to use a hidden
    field with a conditional statement saying "if text box is not empty
    then score=4, else score=0.
    However, firstly I'm not sure how to write this and secondly,
    how do you check if a text box is empty?
    I think it really calls for some human input but the client
    is quite sure this is how he wants it.
    The scores are all going to be inserted into a mysql database
    and sorted out there, so there may be some fudge available there
    but if php could do something nice in the code, that would be
    preferable.
    Thanks in advance.

    Believe it or not, with the PHP function called empty();
    http://docs.php.net/manual/en/function.empty.php
    if (empty($_POST['fieldName'])) {
    // give a score of 0
    } else {
    // give a positive score

  • Creating a frame around a text box?

    I'm new to Illustrator (I'm running CS4 on a Mac) and I'm creating what is essentially an organization chart. (It's actually something more of a decision tree, but that's not important.)
    I've searched some other forums and I discovered the Area Type Options. I'm using that to create 6 pixels of inset spacing between my text and the outside of the text box. Now, I'd like to have a 1 or 2 point frame drawn automatically around the text box. One place told me to go to Object > Text Frame. However, when I highlight the text box and go to Object there is not Text Frame option (either available or grayed out).
    It doesn't seem that I should have to manually go through the work of drawing a rectangle around every text frame.
    Can someone point me in the right direction to have Illustrator make the blue (electronic) frame into a real visible one?
    Thank you in advance,
    Bflat Blues

    Thank you so much. That did the trick.
    However, I'm surprised how arcane this simple technique seems to be. I wanted to draw a straightforward org chart and Illustrator didn't appear to make it straightforward at all.
    It's probably me. From what I can see, a new Illustrator user trying to use it for something this simple is like using dynamite to kill a fly.
    I just need to play with it more as I'm working through exercises.
    Once again, thank you.

  • I cannot see any of my text boxes in the vertical view.

    I just checked the first chapter of my iBook in the vertical display. I cannot see any of my text after the section introduction page. All of it is written in text boxes that I created. I can see all of my widgets and text in the standard horizontal view but when I switch to vertical all I can see is the section introductions and the widgets off to the left hand side. This is a guide to surface palpation. Each page is its own set of instructions instead of being one long piece of continous writing. Is there a way to reformat my text boxes so that they are visible in the vertical view without starting over?

    The portrait mode only supports the flow of text (and pictures pasted into the text), and widgets (they will all be positioned on the left).
    You need to design in landscape mode knowing how the portrait mode works. Text boxes won't show up in portrait mode.

  • How can I get a paypal text box to show up in Muse?

    I'm using paypal for my shopping cart. There was no problem adding the paypal generated HTML to the pages - everything works as it should, except for the text boxes where customers are supposed to input some specific information. The information can be entered (and comes through to paypal), but the box outline doesn't show up on my pages either before or after I publish.

  • How to populate a default value in Text box depending on Poplist selection

    We have a requirement to populate a default value in a Text Box when user chooses a value from poplist (of type MessageChoice adjacent to the Text Box). This page is a Oracle Seeded Page. I understand that this is not possible using personalization. Can please someone guide me as to how should we proceed for this.

    Can I add PPR event to the standard page?
    YesAlso Can I change the Controller code of the standard page to catch the PPR event?
    You need not change the controller, you can extend the controller!Although Oracle discourages extension of controller, but as of now there is no other alternative! These controller extensions will mostly survive upgrades, as Oracle won't be removing all base controller classes.Is it allowed to make changes in standard XML page and import it once again?
    No, standard UIXML should not be changed. But y would u need that, you cando the Ui changes with personlization and if needed programitically in process request method of controller, by takeing control on that particular bean!
    I hope i have resolved your queries.

  • Is there a way to place a photo/graphic inside a text box with text?

    Have a nasty pricelist to do, 200+ pages. Listings top to bottom, lines everywhere.
    I've figured out a workflow that would make my life 1000 times easier if I can do like I can do in a DIV on a website, put a photo (in this case an Illustrator file) into the background of a text box. I can then use the inset feature to push the text down off the top edge a bit, leaving the heading which are part of the Illustrator file, untouched as text flows.
    I can find nothing on a google search about doing this. It's either use 2 boxes, one graphic, one text, or not at all.
    Anyone know of a way? An Extension to ID maybe?  I'm using CC2014 mac.
    Oh ID pro's, can this be done at all?

    Bummer.
    It's a bit tricky but you could anchor the background image behind the text. So:
    An illustrator file and some text:
    Cut the background, place your cursor at the beginning of the text, and Paste:
    Open Anchored Objects Options and choose Above Line with enough negative Space after to position the background:
    The downside is it gets difficult to edit the text because the anchored image gets in the way, so you would have to use Story Editor to easily make text edits:

  • Re-linking multiple text boxes in InDesign

    So here's my problem....
    I've laid out a magazine in InDesign. It has many features, complete with graphics, insets, etc. One of my contributing authors wants his story (as published) sent to him separately in order to have it translated into Japanese. It's six pages long. I've copied & pasted it into a new 6 page InDesign document. But now the text box links are broken. I want to re-link the text boxes (already filled with text) back together, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. I really DON'T want to have to reflow all the text and graphics again. Isn't there a simple way to just re-link the text Boxes?

    Instead of copy/pasting, you would have been better off going to
    Layout>Pages>Move Pages and moved them to a new document. Then the text
    threads would have stayed intact.

  • Problem using text boxes as the "image" to drag and drop over audio file

    I have been adding audio files to my page in iWeb (previous version, not '08), but I am having a problem giving them titles.
    When you first drag a file from iTunes into iWeb, it provides a space for you to drag and drop a picture. The online iWeb guide also says that you can drag a text box there instead of a picture.
    I created a text box with the text I would like to drop over the controller. However, it is no longer allowing me to drop the text box there. I used to be able to do this, and I don't know what I'm doing differently now. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -- Will

    foobar2000 with the ipod plugin will allow you to drag/drop FLAC files and when it syncs the ipod, it converts the FLAC files on the fly. MUCH better than dealing with the crappy iTunes interface and having to pre-convert the files. I absolutely loathe iTunes and it just gets worse and worse!

    Hi ABDULLAH ANNOTECH,
    If the textBox's Text is match to the cell value in DataGridView. if you want to highlight the row, you could use
    Venkat786's code, if you'd like to highlight the cell, you could use the below code.
    Private Sub textBox1_TextChanged(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
    Dim style As New DataGridViewCellStyle()
    style.Font = New Font(dataGridView1.Font.FontFamily, Me.Font.Size, FontStyle.Bold)
    style.BackColor = Color.Yellow
    For Each row As DataGridViewRow In dataGridView1.Rows
    For Each cell As DataGridViewCell In row.Cells
    If cell.Value IsNot Nothing AndAlso Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(Me.textBox1.Text) AndAlso cell.Value.ToString().Contains(Me.textBox1.Text) Then
    cell.Style = style
    Else
    cell.Style = dataGridView1.DefaultCellStyle
    End If
    Next
    Next
    End Sub
    If you have any other concern regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Why can't I create a document in my Facebook group on my iPad? It won't let me input any text into the text box field after I create a new document. Thanks.

    Why can't I create a document in my Facebook group on my iPad. It won't let me input any text into the text box field after I create a new document. Thanks.

    Just thought I'd add my solution, I decided to go with WebDAV and I think it actually works better than the iTunes way, the steps are pretty much the same but avoiding the iTunes interface just makes things easier and faster.
    I followed this guide but it does have a small mistake in the httpd-dav.conf file, on line 2, where it's WebServer/WebDAV">, it should be <Directory "/Library/WebServer/WebDAV">.
    The tricky part is setting permissions which if wrong will give you errors when connecting with the iPad, I opted to set all to Read&Write since my home network has a hardware firewall. Another convenience was to add an alias to the webdav share on the Desktop.
    I'm still expecting the call from Apple but even if they fix the iTunes I'm sticking with WebDAV, atleast until I see what's new with iOS5 and iCloud this fall which should bring true sync for documents (I'm hoping that they will offer encryption with my own keys, if not, then I'll probably keep using WebDAV).

  • Custom themes: How do I create & edit an auto-text box?

    Hello
    Continuing my exploration of custom themes
    I have now found out how to make text boxes editable (control-command-option-T, that was carefully hidden!) and am now struggling with creating and editing 'auto text' boxes (not sure what their real name is in Keynote-speak)
    1) Creating new text boxes:
    Let's take a simple theme like White. One of the Masters is Title + Bullets Left. Now let's assume I want to create two text boxes with bulllets - the existing on the left and another on the right. In PowerPoint it's pretty simple: highly text box; copy; paste; move & resize as needed. Well Keynote won't let me Copy so that's out. If I create a fresh Text box, I can mimick the indent levels, bullets, font attributes, etc. (long and painful) but it still won't work because it is not a placeholder text box (fixed size) but a regular text box (size depends on content).
    I'm sure I'm missing a trick!
    2) Edit auto-text boxes
    Again, take any theme, say White again; If I choose a Master with a set text placement, say Photo Vertical, there is very little I can do with it: I can change text attributes and box size, but I can't touch the number of indentation levels for example. Then again what defines a text box as been 'double click here to edit' from a regular placeholder?
    Overall I think I'm missing a whole editing 'avenue' regarding masters - Anyone care to guide me?
    Thanks!

    You can set a text field to be multi-line and tick off the option to scroll
    long text to have it automatically wrap, but you'll have a problem with the
    first partial line, since form fields can only be rectangular. Another
    problem might be the lines themselves, since you'll have to use a font size
    that will fit them exactly, or it will look odd. I would suggest getting
    rid of those lines altogether. They are not needed when filling in the form
    electronically. It's a relic from printed out forms where people had to
    hand-write their answers.
