Text Box Orientation in Acrobat Pro 9

I am using the trial version of Acrobat 9 to test all features before purchasing.  One thing I cannot figure out is how to change the orientation of text in a text box.  The main portion of the page consists of horizontal lines of text.  I have created a text box running up and down the left hand side of the page, and I want the text in that box to consist of vertical lines.  It defaults to horizontal lines of text (like the main portion of the page), and when I try to rotate view, it rotates the entire page, not just the text box.
Is this possible to correct?  This is an important part of my documents, so if I can't do it, I probably will not purchase Acrobat 9.  Any help?

Thom Parker has posted 'Automating Placement of Annotations' on the Acrobat Users Community sites, http://www.acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/10/auto_placement_annotations . It uses the undoucmented or little documented Matrix2D feature of Acrobat.

  • Why can't I search/find text I added in a PDF with the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X?

If I use the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X to modify a text, the program can't find the added/changed text. But when I just delete letters/words in the text, the rest/changed words can be found. Is that a known problem? Is there any fix or workaround?

Fantastic. There is all sorts of nonsense out there on how to fix this problem, but your simple suggestion works perfectly. Thanks!

Text appearance in adobe acrobat (pro) files displays inconsistently unless you zoom in. Mainly 'i's and 'l's look bigger than they should.
    The pdfs print fine though.

Try doing a spotlight search for all files that start with AdobeFnt. They will be named AdobefntXX.lst, with the XX being some number. They will be scattered across the drive... After making sure that all Adobe applications are closed, trash all the adobefntxx.lst files, those with the 3 letter extension .lst.
Then, restart the system, and open the files in Acrobat again.
Otherwise, what happens in Safe boot? (Remember, Safe boot loads only a default set of fonts.) If they display fine there, the problem most likely is a font issue, one of the fonts that Adobe installed.
Check Adobe's web support page for troubleshooting Fonts.

  • How do I change the font size and color in a text box in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (ctrl e does not work)?

I need to mark up scanned pdf documents with text box comments. I can insert the text box and type text but I cannot change the font or color. When I press Crtl E, no tool bar appears in the menu bar. What does appear in the menu bar is "No current selection". Please advise.

I am already doing that: creating the text box, typing the text, selecting the text i.e. highlighting the text. This morning, for a scant minute, the properties tool bar appeared and I was able to refine the text in a text box. Then it disappeared never to be activated again this morning.
I work half of my weekly hours at this client office and I only have this problem on their pc and adobe software (version 9 pro). When I am home, my laptop and the adobe software (version 10 pro) is fine. I can create the text boxes and refine the format at will with no issues. Could it be a software version and/or update issue? Thanks for any assistance.

  • Setting trim box bug in Acrobat Pro 7 & 8 - try it...

I have filed this bug a few times with Adobe over the past months but there doesn't seem to be any movement. I'd download the trial of Acrobat 9 Pro to check but alas us Mac users are not deemed worthy of that.
I implore anyone who can to try out the following:
    - Open up an existing PDF or create a new, blank one. Zoom out to a point where you get a good amount of "no-man's land" gray around your document.
    - Go to Document->Crop Pages... and pick "trim box" from the drop down menu.
Now start moving the right-hand constraint of the trim box using the "up" arrow widget and see what happens in the main document window. For me and the users that I support, the guide that represents the right-hand trim box constraint will start coming in from the right-most side of the document window, that is, inside the gray out-of-bounds area. In addition to the guide being in the wrong place it also doesn't get redrawn every time the right-hand margin is moved by the standard .125" step by clicking the "up" or "down" widget. As a result there will be a whole mess of black vertical guides left on the screen, obscuring the actual position of the guide regardless of whether or not it is placed on the screen in accordance to the right-hand trim box constraint setting. Similarly, the main document can be zoomed in to fit to window but the guide will still be drawn incorrectly and exhibit the same "ghosting".
All of this has remained the same between versions 8.0 and 8.1.2 of Acrobat Pro and in one of my discussions with an Adobe tech rep who was testing it on his side I was told it also exists in Acrobat Pro 7. It is an issue because the small preview window in the Crop Pages window is not very useful when working with large document dimensions that need precise trimming adjustments beyond a standard eight or quarter inch all around.
Hopefully someone else can confirm this issue while I try to find out whether Acrobat 9 still exhibits the same behavior.
    Thanks.

This has been a problem since version 8 on the mac. Acrobat 7 on the mac worked fine with the right side trim but not on the PC.
We are still having this problem with Acrobat 9.4.0 on the Mac & PC.
This has now been an issue for 2 versions of Acrobat Pro.(8 & 9)
Being in Pre Press and having to constantly set the trim for jobs, this is now taking up too much time and costing money.
    Please fix this Adobe.
and on another note. how hard would it be to display the trim (if set) next to where the page size is?
If the trim is set it should display it! why should we have to go to document/crop pages>trim.
Im in a busy Pre Press Dept and the amount of times you have to check a trim size is stupid.
I always set prefs to display crop / trim / and bleed boxes and this helps but it should display it if its set.
    Thanks
    Hope this is resolved soon.

  • I cannot see certain colors/photos/boxes in Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.  Can in Reader, and in Acrobat Standard 11

I have a customer who uses Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.  When she receives PDFs, she cannot see the color green, certain boxes(most of the ones she cannot see all have green in them),and pictures.  When I opened this same PDF document in Adobe Reader 11, Adobe Acrobat Standard 11, and Fox it reader, I could see everything as normal.  Her version of Acrobat is up to date.  I posted this Acrobat installations & Update Issues, not sure if correct or not.  She has Windows 7 Professional 64x
    Thank you.

    Hey mmartinez,
Please let me know what is the OS version on the system being used by your customer?
Have you tried sending any other PDF files to her? Has she started facing this issue after updating Acrobat?
    Hope to get your response.

  • Linking text form fields in Acrobat Pro

I am using Acrobat Pro.  I have successfully entered javascript that links multiple text fields so that when reaching the end of one field it automatically advances to the next.  My problem is that if I am in the middle of a word it will split the word instead of carrying the entire word to the next line.  How do I fix this?

I'm having a simliar problem except for some reason, if I am typing a word, the sentance will advance to the next field but will be missing a letter and looks like this:
This is an example of what Acrob
    t is doing.
There is a letter that disappears and I can't seem to find how/where to fix it. I think it involves something with the java code but I'm not sure...

  • Visibility description text form fields in Acrobat Pro

    Hi there,
    I'm making a lot of forms for a client of mine. The major part I'm doing from indesign CC, but a couple of specific alterations I have to do in Acrobat Pro. There is one thing I can't figure out, lets see if I can describe it correctly;
One of the 'forms' is a certificate clients of my clients will get. In this certificatie is a graphic area in which the account manager, who makes the sell, has to type in the company name of the new client.
So I made a text field for this, but here's the thing:
I'd like to display the description of the field (which is 'Type in company name') visible in the field in acrobat.
    1 account manager opens form
2 sees where to type the company name
    3 types
4 the description will be invisible with printing
It would be even better if the description tekst becomes invisible after typing, but maybe that's a bridge too far?
Can anyone help me with this or maybe tip me on an alternative?
    Thank you!
    Regards, Liek

This is for a text field that you create in Acrobat, whether the form is used offline or online. The script is a custom Format script, which you can place by bringing up the Properties dialog for the field, select the Format tab, set a format category of Custom, and you should see where you can enter the script. Change the string "Instructional text goes here" to the text you want to display when the field is blank.

  • Text Box Tool in Acrobat X?

In previous versions of Acrobat, I created standard text boxes in my forms.  I was able to open an existing file, click on the Text Box icon, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V into a new document.  I can't figure out how to do that in Acrobat X.  Can anyone point me int he right direction?  Thanks!

I agree with the majority of users that are expressing frustration with the functionality of Acrobat X.  It is really hit and miss. The fact that a user has to copy a text box over and over again without being able to use the standard text box or typewriter functions is in a word 'primitive' and Adobe should be ashamed.  But when you are the only game in town, you don't have to listen to customers.
What I tried just now was to add text using the Add Text tool ( you know the one that lets you add text easily, but you are left with red text surround by a box as the default ).
I then highlighted the red text in that box.
With the text highlighted, go up to the top tool bar just below the    File      Edit     View     Window      Help - Bar.
Right click on that tool box and select Properties Bar  to launch the Text Box Text Properties.
Now I can use that Text Properties box for any Text that I added.
I have no idea yet how to add that Text Box Text Properties button to the tool bar yet.
I worked for Xerox for 19 years and the original postscript was a brainchild from someone out of PARC and that whole Acrobat insanity is a continuation of great thinking, that most of the time, "just missed the target."   The difference is; Acrobat has a monopoly on it - kind of like AutoCAD.  And Adobe, unlike Xerox, doesn't care about Customer Satisfaction.

  • Where is my text box in final cut pro? I cannot change the default text at all?

Hi, as the title says, I use a default final cut pro title or ending for a video and I cannot change the text, all youtube tutorials just show that you click on the text box, the boxes appear, and then to the right in the text window you literally just type and change it, which ive done several times before, but I just got a new mac, and now that is impossible to do, what can I do? I dont want to upload videos that say, TEXT GOES HERE

    hey andy,
i think what you're gonna have to do is just hit command 4!
That should bring up the inspector where you can change the font!

  • When trying to edit text and fonts in Acrobat Pro 11 I keep getting a message saying acrobat has encountered an unknown error?

I have just downloaded Acrobat Pro V 11.0.0 and tried to edit an existing PDF file. When I try to do this I receive a message that Acrobat has encountered an unknown error - what am I doing wrong?.

    Hi myarwema,
Are you using Acrobat on Mac OS or Windows (and what version?). You say you have version 11.0.0, but the current version is 11.0.10, so please choose Help > Check for Updates and install any available updates for starters.
Does the error occur regardless of the PDF that you try to edit? If the problem is widespread, I would recommend a repair/reinstall of Acrobat (if installing the updates doesn't help). If the problem occurs with just the one document, that PDF could be damaged.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Set default width for text box in Adobe Acrobat X

    Hello!
I am using the textbox tool to add comments to a document. (not the Typewriter, but the Textbox, since that has more flexibility for formatting the text).
I know how to set the default proprties for text size, color, background color, etc.
Cannot figure out however to to set the default width. Every time I try to add a new textbox, it defaults to about 1 or 2 inches wide, so the text wraps around and around, and then I have to resize the box when I am done.
Is there a way to change the default width?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Amonra
I drew a box I like, and select, and then, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V.
And move the pasted box where to need, and resize the length. At least I get same width boxes.
I don't know how to default it.
I hope it may help you.
