Text box Vertical Justification greyed out in CS4

Does anyone know why the ability to vertically justify my text boxes is disabled?  It is only in this one document (although, I think I remember this occurring in another).  The option is greyed out in the Text Frame Options window and will not allow me to click on the options in the tool bar.  This is rather frustrating and can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it.  Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Mel

Prior to CS5 you can't vertically justify any frame in which the text area is not rectangular. Not only can text wrap change the shape of a text area, but so can corner effects  (adding enough inset will get past this), and of course the use of non-rectangular frames.
Thanks, Peter.  I had already adjusted the top inset enough to achieve the look I was looking for.  That's good to know about the corner effects.  That is actually when I experienced this before and used insets to achieve my desired look then, too.
Peter's pointing out that you could inadvertently move just one of the corners with the direct selection tool and have a frame that isn't a rectangle and then you loose the text box vertical justification option. If you are on OSX you can use this script to square up a selected skewed box:
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
set {a, b, c, d} to geometric bounds of selection
set entire path of path 1 of selection to {{b, a}, {d, a}, {d, c}, {b, c}}
end tell

  • Text wrap options are greyed out

    Hi,
I am trying to create a "drop cap" by selecting a text box and changing the wrap options in the inspector however, the "object placement" options to wrap the text are greyed out and I can not change them, except for the options below, such as "object causes to wrap" check box and the "text fit" boxes.
Is this a glitch? I have restarted both my program and whole computer, as well as tried it in a new document, and it still is coming up greyed out.
HELP, I have a project due and I need to be able to add in drop caps!
    Thanks

  • The option to add a hyperlink to a text or image is greyed out and not functional.  How do I fix this?

The option to add a hyperlink to text or an image in pages is greyed out.  How do I fix this?

Peter is correct. However, one can clever up two overlayed, grouped Text Box and simulate a hyperlinked image that can be placed in the document body with text flowing around the image. Moving the image requires temporarily turning off the hyperlink in the Link inspector. Example was Pages ’09 v4.3 on OS X 10.8.4.
    Steps:
From the Pages Toolbar, select Text Box twice. The Text Box will be slightly offset. Select and drag the offset one to just above the centered one.
Click inside the centered Text Box and back out the placeholder text. Now select this Text Box and choose the graphic inspector.
Choose Fill > Image Fill. Choose your image, and then Scale to Fit the entire Text Box.
From the Pages arrange menu, choose Make Background Objects Selectable, and Send Object to Background.
In the Wrap inspector, select Object Causes Wrap, and your choice there. My example was door #2.
Click inside your text-only Text Box. Change the placeholder text to three instances of the capital letter ‘O.’
    Launch the Font panel (command+T).
Manually change the font size to 92 points. This just fits a default Text Box size without wrapping. I used Times New Roman Regular.
Select the text, and with the Link inspector, enable your choice of hyperlink, and also disable it (for now) with the “Make all hyperlinks inactive.”
With the text still selected, choose Font color from the Font panel. At the bottom of the Color tool, set the Opacity of your text to zero.
Drag the transparent text-only Text Box exactly over the top of your image Text Box. Use the blue guides.
From the Pages edit menu, Select All. From the Pages Arrange menu, choose Group.
Drag the Text Box group where you want it in your document body. Text will flow around it if you used my setting in the Wrap inspector.
Lastly, with the Text Box group selected, disable “Make all Hyperlinks inactive” in the Link Inspector. You now effectively have a text map overlaying your image and the mouse pointer changes to a hand. The link is now active. Exporting your Pages document to PDF preserves the hyperlinked image effect in both Preview and Acrobat Reader.

  • How do i control 2 text boxes with 1 scroll bar? (CS4)

I want to control 2 Dynamic Text boxs with the 1 scroll bar component? I want them to scroll simultaneously with the user only needing to use the one component. Thank you in advance for your help

The textfields should have the same number of lines.  You can have the scrollbar (sb) assigned to one textfield (t1) and then have an event listener/handler for the scrollbar adjust the other textfield's (t2) scrollV property to match the first one's scrollV property:
    import fl.events.ScrollEvent;
    sb.addEventListener(ScrollEvent.SCROLL, adjustTs);
    function adjustTs(evt:ScrollEvent):void {
        t2.scrollV = t1.scrollV;

  • Site Put button greyed out in CS4

i am attempting to migrate from MS front page to dreamweaver.
as i try to publish one of my sites using the Site>Put command,
i'm finding that it is greyed out, along with many other menu
items. the ftp settings/server connection seem to be testing just
fine so i'm at a loss. thanks.

in the dreamweaver Files Panel, when this site is open, is
    the icon next to
the site folder a folder icon, or a network icon?
If a network icon, it is an RDS edit live remote site. There
    is no "put"
make a new site definition, and this time pick "site" and not
    "RDS"

  • Predictive text keyboard option is greyed out

I have turned on/off all keyboard and spelling options in Settings. Restore and setup as new? Keeping finders crozzed.

Just restored and setup as new. Your advice is correct, tapping on the Keyboard icon at the bottom right enabled the predictive text keyboard.
Going to restore my backup now, thanks for the help.

  • Q2: text boxes blacked out in preview

Using the Special Occasions template there are text boxes in two colours, a light blue and a light grey.
When I preview a book in pdf before buying or printing the light grey text boxes are all blacked out. Of course the easy solution is to delete them and do without them which I have done but they do add a little something to the template and I would keep them if I could.
Any ideas whether what I am seeing is normal? Does it happen for others? Is there anything that can fix it?

    Hi again
Surely you realize that if you are doing what I suggested,
you will need to create a text caption and position it over the
previously empty fields. You may also want to ensure there is no
transition applied to them. And in addition to that, note that the
Text Entry Box may well be pausing the slide before the caption has
had a chance to display. So check your timings.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Color and Color Management boxes in Print Settings greyed out. Using PS CS5.1 with Mac OSX 10.9.5.

For some reason, the above boxes are now greyed out when I go to Print Settings and I am getting prints that are badly distorted. Was working perfectly a few days ago and can't understand why this has suddenly happened ?  Am now confused as to what settings I should have in the Color Management dialogue box in order to get back to the correct operation.

I've also been having this problem. My computer now consistently shuts down between 10 seconds and 2 minutes of startup. This only happens if my computer is not plugged in. (my battery has been between 70-90% the entire time.) If I keep it plugged in...no problems.

  • Gray out or disable text box

    Hi,
I have a drop down menu called CN_Entry_Initials that has options of a "C" or an "N". I also have a text box called Part_Number to enter a part number into. I want the Part Number text box to be grayed out or disabled until either a "C" or an "N" has been chosen out of the CN_Entry_Initials drop down menu. I have this working, except that I cannot get the Add button to do anything. I think it’s something to do with the way I have the If statement for this disabled text box, or do I have to change the button to a submit button. Does anyone know how to fix this? Below is the javascript and the drop down menu and text box code along with the Add or submit button. There is extra stuff in the Javascript that I have on the page, but I don't need to worry about those things since they are working correctly. I have the disabled text box code at the top of the javascript under the function verify() code. Thanks.

I don't understand about using the alert box to output the variables. I know that everything was working with alert boxes, etc. before I added the code for the disable text box code. The difference I see is on the disable text box code I use document.getElementById and on the other code I use document.AddECNumber. Could this cause the Add button to not work? If so, how do I change this code to make it work? I tried just changing it be like the document.AddECNumber code, but that didn't work.

  • Design window - all panels greyed out (CC)

    Hi.
Just using the trial version of DW CC, and liking it so far!
I'm using Split, and when I go to make a link in Design, the Properties box below is greyed out (as is the Insert panel). The only option left is to actually highlight the text in the Code panel and insert a link.
I've seen tuts where people are able to highlight in Design and place a link, etc. What gives?

Do you have Live View active?
You can't edit from the Live View window, if you turn it off, you should have access to those panels again.

  • Insert text box

My text box option is grayed out both in the toolbox options and within the "insert" menu. What am I doing/not doing? I click outside the document, click on margin mark, what's up??

Macbook pro 10.7.5 Lion. trying to connect a HP photosmart 7960. via USB, the printer used to work on my macbook pro ,  every box is now greyed out , Add, print & scan. I hagve tried everything to no avail.
When connected to my sons macbook it regsters but reads not connected.
    Edward.

    Hello Edward,
    Thank you for clarifying.
I would first suggest performing a cold reset to the printer by following these steps
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.
If the same persists, may you have any other PC? (e.g. a Windows PC) to have a test on it?
That in order to double check, as the issue seems too common for both of the Macs and likely to indicate an hardware failure with the USB port of the printer...
