Text caption capture

Sinc
I have (on my previous computer) captured Captivate
demonstrations where Captivate automatically inserted captions. I'm
trying to create an interactive training simulation and it doesn't
matter what Options I select under the auto-capture, Captivate is
not automatically inserting any captions, rollover captions or
highlight boxes. I have a Dell Dimension 3100 with Windows XP,
Version 5.1 SP2. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi dalemw and welcome to our community
I'm wondering if what you are seeing is possibly related to
the actual application being recorded. Perhaps Captivate simply
doesn't recognize some of the items in order to insert the Text
Caption. To test this, try opening Windows Notepad and record a
brief movie. See if it inserts captions there. If so, it's the
application you are recording and probably not Captivate.
Things to try:
Restart Captivate - Sometimes simply closing and restarting
Captivate does the trick.
Hunt and destroy the Captivate settings file - you can do
this by viewing the TechNote linked below:
TechNote
Don't worry, Captivate easily rebuilds this file if it isn't
found. Oh yeah, you also want to be sure and Close Captivate before
doing this. No need to make it wander around your computer all bug
eyed wondering where the file went.
Cheers... Rick

  • Text caption character/space limitation

This is probably so obvious that I'm missing it (trying too hard!). I have a TEB that is assigned a variable to return a user's input from the TEB (upon submit) to the next slide, inside a Text Caption box. The variable from the TEB is simply, v_scen1_cp; the capture box is assigned $$v_scen1_cp$$. Everything is good, right? Here's the probem: if a user puts more than 12 characters in the TEB, the Text Caption box on the following slide will not capture all the characters - it drops the characters if more than 12. I would like to be able to assign up to 20 characters to the Text Caption box. Any suggestions?

If you go to the "Format" section of the text box properties and insert your variable by using the "x" icon then right below where you select the variable name there is a field called "Maximum length". The default is 15 chars so you can change it to 50 or 100 if you like and then it will all be displayed in your text caption.

  • Text Caption appears in Edit Mode but not in Preview Project or Web Browser

I'm using Cp4 and have downloaded Adobe Flash 10 Active X, it's ver 10.1.82.76.  I've added a simple text caption with these options:
    Timing Display:  Rest of slide
    Appear after:  2.0 seconds
    Transition effect:  Fade in only
    In: .5 seconds
    And Visible is checked
I also have a simple line that I drew with the draw line tool and included an arrow on the end of it.
Everything on the screen works including the click box, the animated text and the failure caption.  For some reason the text caption and the arrow are not appearing except in Edit Mode.  In Preview Project, they disapper but the click box, failure caption and animated text work fine.
I've rebooted, copied this screen into a new instance of Cp4, re-created these objects on a freshly recorded screen, chosen Order: Bring to Front, created a brand new screen completely from scratch and downloaded the Flash 10 Active X version mentioned above.
They funny thing is, is that the text caption and arrow works fine on other screens in the project.  I have 76 screens total.
    I'm running Windows XP.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi there
Can you post a screen capture of what your Timeline looks like?
Odds are your Click Box is pausing in a weird place.

  • Some text caption prefs not reflected in recorded project

    In Captivate 5:
Among others, I have set the following preferences prior to recording:
    Font size: 12pt
    Vertical alignment: Top
    Display for: Rest of slide
The text captions in the resulting recording show the following:
    Font size: 19pt
    Vertical alignment: Middle
    Display for: Specific time
Any ideas as to why some of the text caption prefs are not being applied to the recording (while some are)?
    Many thanks.

Absolutely. Here are screen captures to clarify:
Settings in Prefs and Object Style Manager prior to recording:
Properties of text caption in resulting recorded project (notice some settings match while the three identified [Size, Vertical alignment, and Display for] do not):

  • Change the format of ALL text captions

In Captivate 7, I have a simulation; text captions are gray, I want to color them green ALL OF THEM, in a single step. How? Thanks.

Started to reply yesterday evening, but was too tired. It is a bit less simple, Sreekanth, perhaps you missed this 'I have a simulation'.
Because this is a simulation, you could have different styles being used for the captions (Capture Caption Style, Hint Caption Style, Failure Caption Style...). Process described by Sreekanth has to be done for each of those styles, and then I hope you didn't yet override a style...

  • Text Caption options not applied

    Hi,
I'm trying to add a text caption with a transparent style.
however when I try to modify font, font size, or color no change is
being applied. If I switch to the Adobe Blue caption style I can
modify color, but not font size. Any idea why this is
    happening?

    Hi there
I happened across a weird issue just last night that was resolved by choosing a different ActionScript version. I'm wondering if you can try this to see if there is a change in behavior.
Click Edit > Preferences > Project > Publish Settings and whatever it's set to AS2 or AS3, try the other option and see if it changes your outcome.

  • Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

    Hello,
I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Hello Lilybiri,
As always you are awesome! :-)
    >I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects.
I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?
    >but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that
    >someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately.
For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
    Thanks for your assist.

  • Editing text captions changes the Duration setting

    HI,
I edited a text caption in the Text Caption dialog and closed
it with the OK button. The duration (Text Caption dialog >
Options tab > Timing > Display for:) changed although I
didn't change it. Has anyone had this problem? I looked at the help

    Thanks,

    Hi Rick,
I sent my reply, but it looks that it didin't get sent, so
I'm writng this again. Thank you so much for your quick response!!
I unchecked Calculate Caption Timing, and the problem is resolved.
    You're great! Thanks so much

  • Text Caption Box not appearing

HI All / Captivate 4 Experts:
I recently upgraded from Captivate 3 to 4.  My text caption box is not appearing on certain slides.  I do have a click box on them, however when I removed the click box and played the next 5 slides...the text caption box did not appear.
The slides that I have are meant for the user to click on certain areas with the instructions given to them on what and where to click.
    Any ideas???
    PLEASE HELP!!  Thanks!

  • Text Caption will not pop up and go away.  It is there the whole slide

I have a Text Caption box that I am wanting to pop up and
give a Hint on how to answer a question slide and then go away
    after a few seconds.
I have this in the Options tab for it:
Display for: specific time: 2.2 seconds
    Appear after: .3 seconds
    Effect: Fade in and out
In: .4 seconds Out: .5 seconds

    Welcome to our community
Is this a standard Text Caption and you are inserting it on a
Question Slide? If so, perhaps the buttons or overall construction
of the Question Slide are pausing it so the caption is simply
appearing to remain on the slide the entire time.
If you are unable to futz with the timing to get the result
you want, you might try creating a small Captivate project that
only has the caption fading into view briefly, then fading out.
Publish that as a SWF and insert it on your question slide.
Hopefully something here was helpful... Rick

  • Animating Pictures or Text Captions

    Hi Guys
Is there any way of getting more animation of Text Captions or pictures, other than simply fading them in?  I know there is the option of setting up and using the 'Text Animations' but I find the text formatting options very limited.  Notwithstanding this text issue, what about having pictures entering with a little more pizazz?
Any help would be most appreciated and if anyone from Captivate Development are reading and this isn't possible - can we have it for the future... including making the Text Animations feature more versatile with respect to text formatting - or am I just missing something here?
    Many thanks in advance
    Kind regards
    Kevin

    Hi there
Captivate can seem limiting at times. But mostly, I think it's more of a "Can't see the forest for all the darn trees in the stupid way!" issue.
Perhaps if you could articulate exactly how you would like to "jazz it up", we might suggest alternatives or using other features to help.
What you described seems to be a bit on the "fuzzy nebulous" end of the spectrum.

  • Text captions are not displayed as per timeline settings after publishing.

    Hi All,
I am using Adobe Captivate 4. I have provided different start times in timeline settings for 4 text captions. When i preview my slide, it displays well. But when i publish it and try to view it, it is only dsiplaying the first text caption and the other text captions are not at all displayed.
Request to help in this regard.
    Many Thanks,
    Kranthi

    Hi Rick,
    Thanks for your help.
Yeah..you are correct...I do have buttons in my slide.
When i adjusted the start time for my buttons after my text captions....it perfectly works fine...
    Many Thanks,

  • Text value not aligned with text caption

    Hello,
In my text fields, the text value is always slightly raised from the text caption. Is there a way to get them to align?
    Thanks,
    Gail

    Hi Geo,
I have tried top, middle, and bottom alignment and although they give different results, none are actually aligned with the caption text.
The top and middle alignments still have the value text raised above the caption text.
The bottom alignment gives a puzzling result of the value text being sunk below the caption text and actually somewhat cut off at the bottom.
For some of my text boxes I have thrown together a work-around solution for this by setting the baseline shift for the value text to -3pt. Although this does seem to work, I don't imagine this is how the program was INTENDED to be used and I'd like to understand how to get the text aligned without having to tweak baselines.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Gail

  • Text Caption Boxes on imported PowerPoint slides

I have imported a number of PowerPoint slides (with an image)
into a Captivate movie. Text is needed on these slides so
originally I created the text on the PPT slides, but when imported
into Captivate the text formatting and spacing was all messed up.
So, I had to reimport those PPT slides with no text. After
reimporting, I used Text Caption Boxes to enter the text onto those
PPT slides. When published, those text boxes display small white
boxes (white is the text color) everywhere I used the space bar in
the text boxes (after a bullet, etc.) The white boxes do not show
when previewing or editing in Captivate.
Is there a way to get rid of those boxes or does anyone know
    of any other solution?
    Thanks in advance!

You're welcome. And speaking of "thanks", I have copied the
"fix" for the Transparent Caption Style bug from the guy who has
been a great friend and the best source of real intelligence in the
Captivate "expert" community, Paul Dewhurst. Paul deserves the real
"Thanks" for discovering the cure for this irritation ... his
solution is as follows - and I quote:
    quote:
One of the Problems Captivate used to have was that if you used
transparent captions then the text in the published movie would
look blurred, In captivate 2 you can fix this problem and have nice
crisp text all you need to do is select
#C0C0C0 as the highlight colour and highlight part of the
text (you can select just one character) this makes the text in the
published movie display nice and crisp and the highlight is
    transparent.
I hope this helps - and by the way, you can find other
great tips from Paul on his website at
    this link
    Have a great day!

  • Text Caption Boxes don't last for 'rest of slide'

    Hi!
I have created an interactive Captivate movie (i.e. user must
click somewhere to go to the next slide) with various Text
Captions. I've set each text caption to last for 'rest of slide'.
However, in some cases the captions only last for an amount of
seconds whereas Text Captions on other slides, with the same 'rest
of slide' setting, last until you click to move forward.
Any ideas why some text captions do last for the rest of the
slide and some don't, even though they have the same settings under
    the Options tab?
    Please help!
    Thanks!
    Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to our community
It is usually all in the timing. For example, if you have a
click box or a button that pauses the slide, it could be that
clicking it moves to the next slide. In this case, let's assume the
slide is a total of six seconds long. But the click box pauses at
two seconds. So you would see the caption for two seconds, then
when the click box is clicked the next slide would display
    immediately.
Or possibly the caption is set to fade in and out and the
click box or button pauses after they fade out?
What does the timeline show for the captions that misbehave?
    Sincerely... Rick
