Text charges for activity from to 49988 short code program

I rec'd a bill from Bell for 3 events to 49988.  I phoned Bell and they agreed to refund the money, but they said it was an Apple charge to set up facetime.  I was told by Bell Canada to phone apple and complain.    I learned from apple that all carriers have agreements with them to send a short code program silently to activate facetime, and that these texts/short code programs are free contractually between the carriers and apple and that no charges should be sent to the customer.

ok, well if you were told that no charges would be sent to the customer, and you were charged, then Apple has nothing to do with it...complain to Bell.

  • Will I be charged for upgrade from OSX 10.7.4 version to 10.7.6 version?

Will I be charged for upgrade from OSX 10.7.4 version to 10.7.6 version?
When I check for the software upgrade on my Mac-book Air, it is showing that the above upgrade is available. Will it be charged? I am not asked the ‘ Apple ID’ before start of up gradation process , does that mean that such upgrades are free?
If yes, How much are the chargers for such upgrades?
    Thanks for your inputs.

    10.7.6 does not exist.
The next one will be Mountain Lion 10.8 and will cost a little amount.
The Mountain Lion is not an "update", but an "upgrade": a different OS: before installing you should check the compatibilty of your hardware and software.

  • Does messaging to/from iPhone to/from iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch count as a text charge for Verizon?

My dad has an iPad 2 and my little brother has an iPod Touch (4th generation). As long as there is a Wi-Fi signal, they are able to message, Facetime, and use the internet all for "free" (no extra charges from our internet service provider, which is obvious).
My dad recently purchased an iPhone 4S from Verizon.
He is currently on the "Pay As You Go" plan for messages ($0.20/text and $0.25/picture and video).
When are messages free, and when are they not free? Are they free as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal? Are they free as long as it is from the iPhone to another iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch? Do I get charged for data only when I see the "3G" symbol displayed in the upper left corner of the iPhone?
    Thanks in advance!

I then turned Wi-Fi off on the iPhone 4S but had "Send as SMS" turned on, tried sending another message to the Touch (Wi-Fi activated), and it did not send at all (because the Touch is SMS-incapable).
That sort of makes sense, but even with wi-fi off the 4S should have been able to send the iMessage over 3G to the Touch, which was on wi-fi.  Your results would only make sense if the 4S didn't have 3G service, or if the iMessage servers were down, or if you've turned iMessage off completely on the 4S.  That would force the message to go out as SMS but the Touch can't receive SMS.
Sorry, I was a bit unclear there.
I had both Wi-Fi and Cellular Data (3G) turned off to see if "Send as SMS" alone would work if I was sending a message to an SMS-incapable device (to see if the iPhone would try anyway and to see if I would get charged for that).
I'll type out some scenarios, and tell me if I'm wrong on these. They might seem redundant since you have pretty much answered all my questions, but I want to make absolutely sure that I understand. These could also clear things up for others who will/have read this discussion.
Scenarios involving iPhone 4S to iPod Touch (both running iOS 5):
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on. Touch has Wi-Fi turned on.
4S can iMessage to Touch via Wi-Fi (as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal) free of charge and will remain free of charge and with no accrued data usage because 4S prioritizes Wi-Fi before 3G before SMS.
Once out of range of the Wi-Fi signal, 3G kicks in and any iMessages sent from 4S to Touch will count towards data plan usage (in my dad's case, 300MB/$20 per month - the minimum plan). However, data size will be insignificantly small if it's a simple words-only message and will only be a fraction of a percentage of the 300 MB.
My dad turns off Cellular Data (3G), Wi-Fi is still out of range, and he sends a message (keep in mind that "Send as SMS" is still turned on). Because the Touch is not capable of sending/receiving SMS messages, the message will just fail to send.
These scenarios would also have the same outcome if the Touch had been a Wi-Fi-only iPad. If the iPad had 3G capability, the message received from the 4S would have added towards the data plan usage of the iPad.
Scenarios involving iPhone 4S to another iPhone (both running iOS 5):
Both phones have Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on. Messaging plan for each phone is "Pay as You Go" - $0.20/text and $0.25/picture or video.
iMessages are free and do not count towards data plan usage if both currently have strong Wi-Fi signals.
4S still has strong Wi-Fi signal, other iPhone gets out of Wi-Fi range and switches to 3G. Any messages received by the other iPhone from the 4S will count towards data plan usage of the other iPhone. However, the outgoing message from the 4S will still be free and will not count towards data plan usage.
Other iPhone turns off 3G and is still out of Wi-Fi range but still has "Send as SMS" turned on. 4S (with strong Wi-Fi signal) sends message, "I love you." to other iPhone. The message will still be free and will not count towards data plan usage for 4S but will charge $0.20 to other iPhone.
Scenario involving iPhone 4S to Samsung Galaxy 2 (running Android OS):
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on.
Any message sent from 4S to Galaxy will count as SMS because Galaxy is incapable of iMessage. Therefore, Wi-Fi and 3G are insignificant, and 4S is charged $0.20.
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned off.
4S will not be capable of sending anything.
4S has Wi-Fi and 3G turned on, but "Send as SMS" is turned off.
4S has strong Wi-Fi signal, but message will not be sent to Galaxy.
4S gets out of Wi-Fi range and 3G kicks in, but message will not be sent to Galaxy and no data usage will have occurred.
That should be everything...at least everything I've considered.
    Again, thank you.

  • PM order: operation short text mandatory for active operations only?

    Hi experts,
a quick question regarding operation short texts in the PM order:
I would like to make short texts in PM order operations mandatory.
When I set the short text to "mandatory" in the "operation list customizing" field selection (Tcode OIOPL), all of the operations in the order shown in the operation list (standard 0010 to 0170) get the short text field marked as mandatory.
This means that a short text is expected even for operations which are not used/active, which is a pain if I only want to use operations 0010 and 0020...
Does anyone know of an OSS note that fixes this?
Or is there some other customizing that needs to be done?
    Thanks a lot!
    Andreas

    Hi,
There is no fix for this as its not an error as such. The screen processing does not distinguish between active and non-active operation lines. So if short text is mandatory it will be required on every operation line. OIOPL is not suitable for marking fields mandatory for that reason - ok for hiding fields or making display only.
    Consider the exit as suggested.

  • Full reconnection charge for active line?

My father-in-law, who has always been a BT customer, has just moved into a rental apartment. The line has a dial tone and there is a number assigned to it however BT wanted £130 for a new line? Queried this and got this down to £40, with strings attached!!, but he has to wait over a month for an engineer to attend. Anybody any thoughts on this.     Thanks.

BT do not provide or maintain the external network. This is done by Openreach who work for all service providers. BT do not get any special treatment.
Its Openreach that charge £130 for providing or re-connecting a new line. They pass the charge onto BT who have to recover it from their customer.
If you agree to a 12 or 18 month contract, they will normally charge you less, and absorb the remaining amount themselves.
Openreach have a backlog of work due to the recent bad weather, so installation and repairs are taking much longer than normal.

  • Need Port number for active Host name using java code

    Hi All,
I have tnsnames string and I know one of the following Host is working  say Primary-host .
    DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS_LIST= (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Primary-host)(PORT = 1521)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Secondary-host)(PORT = 1522)))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = ORA112DB)))
Could you please help me to get Port number of only primary Side ?. This needs to do because we cannot get port number using any oracle query.
    Thanks in advance
    JPrashant

You may get client's host IP with
    select sys_context('USERENV','IP_ADDRESS') from dual;
You may get client's port with
    SELECT port FROM v$session where username = user;
To get connection port you should issue OS command (*nix) like
    netstat -n | grep <client_ip>:<client_port>
    tcp 0 0 192.168.1.1:1521 132.168.1.2:65432 ESTABLISHED
To run OS command (keeping in mind all possible security consequences) it is possible to write C, java code.

  • I get an error message "waiting for activation" while trying to turn on imessage

I had to reset my Apple ID password. After doing this i now have to log back into everything that requires an Apple ID to operate on my 5C. I dont currently have cell coverage as im traveling in Italy for work and don't have international coverage. Is there a way for Imessage to  verify my new AppleID password without recieving an SMS from Verizon. My phone is currently in Airplane mode with date and all roaming shut off to keep from getting an expensive charge. I have Wifi through a hot spot i carry with me but the Imessage gives an error message saying "waiting for activation" From everything i have found i guess it's waiting for network (Verizon) verification. Back to my question, is there a way to have Imessage verify my new Apple ID password over wifi using my email address instead of carrier verification? This seems to have worked for Facetime but i know facetime only uses Wifi.

    Hey Andrew,
That is interesting issue. If you are still not activated with iMessage, then you will probably need to turn your cellular data on so it can be linked with your phone number. Go over the article below to walk you through some general troubleshooting to get it going.

  • Why am I  being charged for a phone I owned outright?

My fully paid for phone was stolen. I was advised that the Edge program was my best option for replacement & I  choose to go with that option. But why am I  charged $300.00 for my old phone in addition to the monthly charge for the new phone on the new program. Where did that amount even come from? as my 1st question said it was fully paid for. In reading the contract I don't see where you have to turn in the phone at the start, only if you "edge up" & I didn't do that.

You can't buy out a 2 year contract without losing your number.  Dumb, but true for other carriers also.
You can buy out an Edge installment agreement.
Your cheapest option was to purchase a replacement phone at full retail price.  Which for a Droid Turbo is $549
In 2 or 3 months when your old 2 year contract expires, call and ask for the out of contract discount. Depending on your data plan you will get $15 or $25 monthly line credit for being out of contract.  That will offset your Edge payment, netting either a payment of $7, or a credit of $3 (based on the Edge payment of $22)
