Text charges when travelling to canada

If I don't activate Canada calling plan, will I be charged to receive a text message in Canada? If I keep the phone turned on, will I receive text/calls even when i don't have a canada/global plan?
I want to use the phone to check my emails when on a wifi and use the camera to take cool pics while travelling. .
I plan to fwd the calls to my other phone which has canada plan. Will I be charged to call customer service *611 from Canada from this other phone?
Please advice.
Thanks

Hello PC27,
I'm glad to see that you are traveling to Canada! It's one of my favorite countries to visit. I know that keeping in contact is super important while traveling so I would suggest visiting our global support page for a reference of all of the services and its cost. Here's a link for your review, http://vz.to/1pDgI2c. If you keep the phone on the text and picture messages will come in. Elector gave a great suggestion, turning off cellular data. This way, you won't incur any additional data charges and have still have the option to use wifi. If you have any additional questions then we are here to help.
Thank you...

  • Settings on iPhone to avoid charges when travelling question about carrier

    Hi
Want to check setting  on iPhone to avoid charges when travelling on iPhone 5 .
I have googled but still wanted to check as I only want to use wifi and with air plane mode I actually recovered a text message which led me to think I was not fully disabled for travelling and avoiding cost so I make the following additional changes but wanted to ensure nothing was missing.
    1.  Enable airplane mode
    2.  Then Settings - cellular data - off
I noticed that under Settings that Carrier is still set as Automatic and on.  Should this be off?
    Please clarify, thank you

Based from my carriers for my country, to be able to connect to an overseas carrier (to receive calls or sms from your home country) it can be enabled by contacting the carriers; with or without a charge.
Then, the carrier can be set to automatic/ON (connects to an overseas carrier automatically that is prefered by your home country's carrier) or OFF (choose the respective carriers that you prefer).
It is still best to switch off the cellular data when you're overseas.
    Just a precaution:
    Go Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Data Roaming > OFF
Data Roaming: Uses mobile data when you're connected to an overseas carrier (heavy charges apply).
    Hope it helps.

  • I have an iPhone4.  Do I need a voltage converter for charging when traveling to countries using 220/240V?

No. All Apple power supplies are "universal". They will work anywhere in the world. You just need a plug adapter.

  • To avoid roaming charges when traveling internationally, do i put my iphone on airplane mode only or do i also need to turn off data and voice roaming

I have an iphone 4 with sprint which can't take a sim card.  To avoid roaming charges while traveling internationally, do i put my phone on airplane mode.
I read you need to turn off cellular and voice data roaming as well but when I turn on airplane mode, it seems like roaming is automatically turned off.
    Is this true?

Turning on Airplane Mode will prevent the phone from getting roaming charges as it cant connect to a cell tower.
P.S you can have WiFi on and still be in Airplan Mode. Just turn Airplane Mode on first, then turn the WiFi on

  • How can I make sure that I don't get roaming charges when traveling with my iPhone?

    Hello everyone!
I am going to be traveling to China next week (from Canada) and I want to bring my iPhone to listen to music, read books and use for Wifi as well.  However I don't want to use it for calls, browsing etc as I don't want to get charged roaming fees for these services.
Is there a way that I can make sure that this does not happen?  I think that if I leave my phone on Airplane mode the whole time then I'll be fine and I can find Wifi wherever I am, but I just want to see if is this in fact correct or if there is anything else I can do instead.
As well, if I do end up taking my phone and taking out the cellular service when I'm in China, will I still be able to use iMessage to text people back home if I really have to?
    Thanks!

Put the phone in Airplane mode...this turns off all iPhone radios...but, you can go back into settings & turn WiFi back on. You can then use iMessage.
No nasty surprises if you do that.

  • How to charge when travelling ?

I like to travel very light when I am out of the country so how can I charge my Ipod with out a computer ? Please let me know. David

    I got one of these

and it seems to work OK. You'd still need an adapter for some other countries' plugs, but it does cut down on how many layers of stuff you have to use.

  • IPod Touch 3G 8GB charging when travelling

I have an iPod Touch 3G 8GB which i charge normally with the provided USB cable in my computer/laptop. But i'll be going away this summer and need an alternative charging solution as i can't take my laptop with me.
This could just be me, but everywhere I read I hear about problems with mains chargers and iPod Touchs. Or when I do find a mains charger for the iPod Touch, it only mentions compatibility with 1st Gen or 2nd Gen. Even the Apple Store doesn't list the 3rd Gen as compatible with its USB Power Adapter... http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB706B/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
    Any suggestions?

It will work. Nothing on the Apple Store is shown as compatible with the 3rd generation iPod Touch because there is no such thing. Officially, Apple calls it the iPod Touch (late 2009), which is popularly referred to as the 3rd generation iPod Touch.

  • Traveling to Canada with iPhone for a weekend? ...

Hey guys, we're pretty new to AT&T. In a couple months I plan to head from the U.S. to Toronto for a weekend. I've heard horror stories about people racking-up insane voice and data charges when traveling to Canada.
When I was with Sprint a few years ago we could add some kind of international plan add-on for something like $3.99 for a single month that completely covered us there.
Does AT&T offer anything similar? What are the options?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    Chris

WoW !! It is year 2015......
    Lots of change in Canada.
Making and receiving calls & text are much cheaper now with AT&T while roaming in Canada with Rogers wireless.
But using roaming data still cost a lot.
My suggestion to all my friends are if you coming up North only for a few days, and you really really need to use your phone, remember to turn off data roaming.
For data, use the free wifi in your hotel or free wifi in any public place
Most major airports in Canada got free open wifi for public use.
Burger places and coffee shops also got open wifi for public use,
some of them may need a  password , you can alway ask if you are a customer.
This only apply to major big cities in Canada, like Vancouver BC,Calgary AB,Edmonton AB, Toronto ON,Winnipeg MB, Regina SK, Halifax NS, Quebec QC,St. John NL etc etc.
If you go to Yukon or NWT the above do not apply

it's my understanding that when traveling overseas, all i have to do is turn off cellular data to avoid high data charges.

With Airplane Mode you will not receive phone calls.  If you are just worried about Data Charges then just go to Settings>Cellular>Data 'Off'  This may also turn your iMessage off such that all your iMessages even in a WiFi environment go out as Text Messages.  If you still want to use iMessage from Apple device to Apple device in a WiFi network then go to Settings>Messages> and turn it back on after you have set Cellular Data to Off.  Ckuan is correct though about having some per minute received or outgoing call and text charges.  For one example, if you were traveling in Canada but didn't have a Canada Plan you would pay about 89 cents per minute and 50 cents per send / receive Text.

  • Charging iPad when travelling overseas

I bought the PlugBug World iPad/iPhone Charger (I live in Canada). When I travel to Australia can I just plug my iPad in with it, or do I need something to convert the power too?

Thank you for your feedback. I suspected that it would be okay, but I just wanted to be sure as I didn't want to fry my iPad

When travelling from US to UK and France what do I need to charge macbook and iPhone?

Just a pin converter and your Apple US Power adapters (100-240v 50/60Hz)
The European sockets take 2 x round pins, adapter available from  in most drug stores carrying travel aids as is the UK pin converter.
UK is heavier 3 x rectangular pins

  • HT1665 I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad. can the plug adapters also be used on the Mac Pro charger to charge up my laptop when travelling or is a special converter needed.M

I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad when traveling abroad. I know this charger can be used on an iPhone, can the plug adapters also be used with the charger of a Mac Book Pro or is a special converter required?

Is there any concern about the type of travel adapter kit? For instance, some instructions indicate they are for heat creating appliances (hairdryers, curling irons, etc.). I bought such a set, but do they present any issues if used with more delicate electronic circuitry (for iPads, iPods, or with camera battery chargers). I am leaving for the UK on Monday and need to get it right - are they too strong for the Apple products if they are not to be used with computers? What other options are out there?

You can either put them in "Flight Mode" ( Found in settings. This feature disables 3G, 4G and Wifi), or you can go into your settings and turn off mobile networking ( also found in settings, this allows you to connect to wifi, but disables mobile networking)
