Text cursor question
Recently moved from OS9 to OSX 10.5.8... and I've having a devil of a time with the text cursor and effectively selecting text (releasing the mouse usually releases the selected text and I seem to have to select text way under the line to actually get it to stick consistently).
Back in the day, cursors had a "hot spot", which was the actual active pixel within the cursor's image.
Has the "hot spot" changed a bit in the OS X text cursor, compared to OS 9?
I'm having the same problems in almost every app.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
If not, is there some utility that can allow me to adjust the "hot spot"?
Thanks!
Are you using a mouse with your Macbook Pro? Are you using the Mighty Mouse or a 3rd party mouse? Have you checked your mouse settings through System Preferences or if using a 3rd party mouse the Preference Pane within System Preferences?
is there some utility that can allow me to adjust the "hot spot"?
Check Versiontracker, Macupdate and Google.

Flashing text cursor not visible on portion of screen
I've searched all over the internet, and no one has a correct answer for this problem. Apparently the issue has been happening since as far back as CS2. The flashing text cursor is only visible in the upper left hand portion of the screen. If the text your are attempting to edit is on the far right or bottom of the screen, the cursor vanishes. Some people have suggested zooming in and out, but this only appears to solve the problem because the art board may get nudged into the "good" portion of the screen. I did a screen shot and found that the cursor is only visible in about a 930p x 600p area of the window (not including toolbars). Incindentally, the is the same size that the window defaults to when initially opened. On a HD monitor, this amounts to a very small space. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
You're not going to like me for this but it is intended to help you.
The idea that there is "Nothing on my system should have any effect on the Adobe software," is not a good concept, if you or I were engineers we might, and I mean might be able to determine that to be so.
But even a software engineer might not be able to determine this uunoess the did some trouble shooting.
Let me ask you a few question that help pinpoint a problem. Do you do any gaming on your system? Do you hsave any utility software installed? Any free fonts or fonts from small software developers?
Perhaps it is just the preferences which ahve to be refreshed.
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)
/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
But it sounds like a conflict to me. -
Text cursor with pop-menu in Mozilla Firefox?
Hello
I have a question.
I'm working on dreamweaver 8.
I add a popup menu through Behaviors.
When i preview the page in Mozilla Firefox browser, the mouse
does not change it's cursor to a regular hand or pointer like it
does when it hovers over usual links.
Instead, it produces the text cursor.
Is there a way to force it to the hand/pointer when it hovers
over a link in the menu?
I need help. Thank you

Relocating/resetting the text cursor position
This is a very beginner question. I don't even know if it can be done in java, but I know it can be done in qbasic, so I hope so.
I want to move the location of the text cursor so it is set back to the initial location. That way, I can update the display, without the dos box scrolling.
As you may have guessed, yes, this is command line at the moment still. I don't know GUI stuff yet, I'm just learning.
In qbasic, what I would do is this: LOCATE 1,1
Can that be done in JAVA2?Hi! Once a linefeed ("\n") is issued, you cannot go back as you would like. However, you can use a carriage return ("\r") character to achieve that effect, just like in C or C++. Here's a quick code snippet.
public class CmdScroll
public static void main( String[] cmdArgs )
for( int i = 0; i < 50; i++ )
System.out.print( "Counter : " + i + "\r" );
try
Thread.sleep( 250 );
catch( InterruptedException x )
}Don't worry about the try...catch block. That essentially puts the running thread to sleep for 250 ms, so that you can actually observe the counter update.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask if something's not too clear.
Cheers! -
Bug Report: Character Palette Does Not Update When Placing Text Cursor
Steps to reproduce:
Create some text and make it 12px in size
Create another block of text and make it 24px in size
When you place the text cursor back onto the first block of text the character palette still reads 24px
if you then drag the cursor over the text to highlight multiple characters THEN the font size changes to 12px
Expected results:
in 3, above, when you click on text using the text tool the character palette should immediately be updated with the font size of the text selected.

In the last few months I've seen what may be a change in the way the text cursor moves in text fields, particularly in Mail.
In Mail I'm composing a reply to an e-mail message. I've typed some text that occupies two lines. The cursor is in the third, blank line. If I press "up-arrow" the cursor moves to the end of the second line. If I press "up-arrow" again the cursor moves to the beginning of the first line. If I press "down-arrow", the cursor moves to the beginning of the second line. Very odd.
I was used to being able to cursor past the end of one line to the beginning of the next line and then being able to cursor up and down in that first column position. That no longer works reliably, often causing the cursor to move to a position far to the right of the first column.
Does anyone else see this? Did a change in an OS update alter the way the text cursor works in Mail? In TextEdit the cursor still works the way it used to. I have no third-party plug-ins for Mail.Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset). -
On a Mac, Cmd+Left places the text cursor to the beginning of the line, Cmd+Right to the end of the line.
FireFox however goes back resp. forward a page in hinstory, which is ''most annoying'', since it very often causes me to accidentally leave a still unsubmitted form and loose all input!
I did not find any possibility to get rid of these dreadful keybindings.Thanks for your response.
I guess I didn't revert to as far back as the change I had made because when I follow your instructions, no entries are bold.
Or did you perhaps mean the next time the problem occurs I should look for a bold entry? And then change it back to what it was? (All that I recall from a year ago was that I changed one entry from ''true'' to ''false'', or vice versa.) -
Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 For Mac - Text Cursor Not Stable!
I recently installed some fonts on my Mac Pro and besides the fact that Microsoft Office 2011 now crashes upon starting any program within that suite, I've also noticed that Photoshop, specifically the text cursor when you go to create or edit text, now changes between the arrow and the round circle of dots synonymous with a Mac. Oddly enough, I have THE EXACT same setup on my MacBook Pro and it IS NOT doing this! Has anyone come acoss this issue? I've tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop CC 2014 to clearing font caches using OnyX to making sure accessibility options aren't causing the issue and well beyond that! It's extremely annoying and yes I've even tried toggling between seeing the workspace background and seeing the desktop background in Photoshop and still, to no avail, this damn issue has been plaguing me all day! If anyone has a fix (besides me reformatting and reloading EVERYTHING) please, please, please post and/or e-mail me directly at [email protected] As I said, I loaded the EXACT same fonts to both my MP and MBP and the issue only arose on my MP, of course, the one that I NEED to work! Thanks SO much!

Can't insert text cursor; text is selected as image?
Hi all. Occasionally, as I type in Structured FrameMaker, this happens.
When I try to insert a text cursor the entire page is selected with black dots in the page corners and the middle of each margin. Basically the page is selcted as if it were an image and I can not insert a cursor; all it does is select the page as one entity (with the black dots). I don't even know what this is and the only way I seem to be able to fix it is to close Frame and restart Windows (just closing doesn't work). Can someone tell me what this is and how I can rectify this situation without closing FrameMaker?
A hint: I think this happens if I accidentally click one of the modifier keys (CTL, Command, etc.) but nothing I do after changes it back. I am using Frame in Virtual Box Windows on a Mac.
thanks
michaelThanks for the response. I have done the margin thing ad nauseum and it never works. I do see a hollow arrow that appears so I will remember the crtl+click and see if that works but the outside the margin did nothing except allow me to select the text as an image again when I went back inside the margin. (The cursor changed back into a hollow arrow when I went back inside the margin.)

I put an object and/or a text box on a page and then cannot select it - the Text cursor (not pointer, just the text cursor shows) is put on the object or text box and nothing happens. It is so frustrating! I then open up Everweb and the same thing, I create an object and then try and elect it to make it bigger etc and cannot. I know it must be something system wide as it happens in apps other than Pages.

I use XP Pro SP3 + Firefox 16.0.2
Since yesterday, when trying to sell an item on eBay.co.uk, no text cursor is available in the description box for step 4, so it is not possible to enter text.
However, text can be entered into all the other text boxes on the selling page.
For comparison, using Internet Explorer 7, text can be entered into that text box.Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

Changing the Text Cursor for all Text Components
Hi,
The users have asked me to change the text cursor i.e, the vertical cursor for all the text components in our application.
Is there a common way to change it , without having to call the setCaret method for each of the text components ?
I saw that Cursor class has a Cursor type called TEXT_CURSOR. I'd like to be able to change that cursor.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks!I was talking about the blinking vertical caret - sorry I got confused between the I-beam cursor and the caret(!).
I wanted to change the caret color at the very least.
Although preferably, I would like to make it a bit wider.
I just found one solution to change the caret color across all the textfields using UIManager -
Color caretColor = Color.GREEN;
UIManager.put( "TextField.caretForeground", caretColor);
UIManager.put( "FormattedTextField.caretForeground", caretColor);
UIManager.put( "TextArea.caretForeground", caretColor);
UIManager.put( "PasswordField.caretForeground", caretColor);Thanks -
How do you change size of text cursor or 'insertion point' in adobe cc for mac?
how do you change size of text cursor or 'insertion point' in adobe ID cc for mac? I have looked everywhere. It's possible in Windows and Word but not in Mac. Please help. I spend half my time trying to find that blinking upright bar.
Thanks for your note but it’s still a skinny rod that seems to disappear. Why can’t it become a little thicker so it doesn’t disappear no matter what size I have set the screen? My poor old eyes aren’t what they used to be. I do appreciate your answering and I’ll enlarge the screen so the blankety-blankety blinking rod is at least visible. Nancy

Cursor size is governed by the type size and will be be larger or smaller on screen depending on how close you are zoomed in.

Hi,
as the titel says. I never see a Text Cursor or the Caret in any kind of Textbox, -input, -area and so on.
Even in the simplest application there is no text cursor shown!?
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" width="100%" height="100%">
<mx:TextArea width="366" height="118" text="Hey You - hey me" textAlign="center"/>
</mx:Application>
How can that be? I think it should be something with the Embedded Object or when compiling!?
Thanks in advance
smashioEven after you click in it? Check the html wrapper. Try using the default
wrapper. Wmode and other changes could affect whether the SWF gets

Drawing a curved line using the pen tool, dragging the text cursor over the line but will only give me a small area to write in, in-between a circle and a circle with a cross in?
If you change your tool to the "Direct Selection Tool" (A) then you should be able to adjust the area for you to type in...
