Text data source and Info object?

Hi I have created Texts data source in R/3 and our onsite folks have asked me to create relavant info objects in BW as well.I need to validate against the data source created in R/ 3for use short med or long text all should support mulilang.Can any body please explain how can I proceed with this ?

It is the other way. Once u tick in the master data tab -what kind of text u want-short,long,medium-then that will appear in your transformation.And u can map any char field from ur data source for these based on the length.
So u can check the datasource definition in rsa2 and determine the length of text field in which ur text data will data.
Based on that select in teh info object, then u will get that to map in transformation.

Hi Kumar,
DataSources include extraction source structures and transfer structures. Data is staged in the extraction source structure and the transfer structure, and transferred into the BW system by ALE or tRFC.
An InfoSource is always a quantity of Info Object that logically belong together. The structure in which these are stored is called a communication structure.
There are basically two types of InfoSources.
InfoSources with flexible updating
Info Sources with direct updating

Assigning data source below info-object

HI,
I have to use one text data source below one info-object. But this data source is already used by another Master info-object.
So that when we create transfer rule for this data -source and in "select direct info-object" when we give info-object name.
After this when we activate transfer rule. It gives error like "it is assign to another info-object".
So that how can we use this data-source to another info-object? is it possible or not?

You can do either of the two -
1. Migrate the existing transfer rule (from datasource to master data object) to transformation & datasource to 7.x datasource. Then you can load it to any number of targets.
2. No change to the existing flow. Create export datasoruce on the infoobject (right click --> additional options) and create transformation/transfer rule to the new infoobject (from the export datasource) and load texts.

Text data source for the field Position(PLANS)

Hi Experts,
I have an infoobject ZPOSITION which i am using in a cube for this i can able to display key values but i want to display text for this ZPOSITION. The source for this field is Position(PLANS) which i have tacken from pa0001 table.
I have an another infoobject 0HRPOSITION for this i have already loaded data using data source 0HRPOSITION_TEXT.
Is there any other text datasources for this field Position(PLANS)?
And
Is it possible to load data from one info object to another info object?

Hi Sridhar,
Check out in the infotype PA0001 for the check table for this field. In this table you will have the description for the field PLANS (Position).
I request you to catch hold of functional HR team member to know where the text value for the Position (PLANS) is stored. You can get the info from them immeadiatly.
After knowing the table where the text values for Position (PLANS) are stored, you have to create a text datasource using RSO2 transaction and replicate in BW and load data from the R/3 table.

Uploading of master data
Log on to your SAP
Transaction code RSA1LEAD YOU TO MODELLING
1. Creation of Info Objects
In left panel select info object
Create info area
Create info object catalog ( characteristics & Key figures ) by right clicking the created info area
Create new characteristics and key figures under respective catalogs according to the project requirement
Create required info objects and Activate.
2. Creation of Data Source
In the left panel select data sources
Create application component(AC)
Right click AC and create datasource
Specify data source name, source system, and data type ( master data attributes, text, hierarchies)
In general tab give short, medium, and long description.
In extraction tab specify file path, header rows to be ignored, data format(csv) and data separator( , )
In proposal tab load example data and verify it.
In field tab you can you can give the technical name of info objects in the template and you not have to map during the transformation the server will automatically map accordingly. If you are not mapping in this field tab you have to manually map during the transformation in Info providers.
Activate data source and read preview data under preview tab.
Create info package by right clicking data source and in schedule tab click star to load data to PSA.( make sure to close the flat file during loading )
3. Creation of data targets
In left panel select info provider
Select created info area and right click to select Insert Characteristics as info provider
Select required info object ( Ex : Employee ID)
Under that info object select attributes
Right click on attributes and select create transformation.
In source of transformation , select object type( data source) and specify its name and source system Note: Source system will be a temporary folder or package into which data is getting stored
Activate created transformation
Create Data transfer process (DTP) by right clicking the master data attributes
In extraction tab specify extraction mode ( full)
In update tab specify error handling ( request green)
Activate DTP and in execute tab click execute button to load data in data targets.
4. Monitor
Right Click data targets and select manage and in contents tab select contents to view the loaded data. Alternatively monitor icon can be used.

To assign text data source

Hi
I have a scenario where I have to extract the text for a customised infoobject like zrsk_cat which is similar to the standard info-object 0risk_categ. How can i use the data source which is used to extract the text of 0risk_categ to extract the text of Zrsk_cat.
Also the infoobject 0risk_categ is compunded to 0c_ctr_area(credit control area). does that mean we need to make our (zrsk_cat) compounded to 0c_ctr_area for us to extract the text even though we do need this in any other way.
Please advise.

Thats what I have done but when I do assign data source that data source(0risk_categ) is not found as I think its already been assigned to the std infoobject 0risk_categ and I think we cannot use the same data source to assign to two data targets.
What can I do to make use of this text data source to upload the text to the my new info-object.DO i need to do flexible update....and is it possible for text ?

Probelms while replicating Data Source and transport into test system

I find the following error messages whilre transporting into test system.
DataSource 0EC_PCA_1 does not exist in source system of version A.
Mapping between data source 0EC_PCA_1 and source system is inconsistent.
DataSource 0EC_PCA_1 does not exist in source system of version A.
Field AFABE will not be delivered from DataSource 0EC_PCA_1 in source system.
any ideas please..........
Enhanced the Extract structure and activated the data source in Source system
Replicate the Data source in BI and install the Infosource through BI Content activated and transport them to Test system.

Hi,
1.First transport the data source from R/3 dev to R/3 quality
2.Replicate the data source in BI Quality ( make sure you that in the data source tab, you are searching the data source below the appropriate source system ---otherwise you data source may not appear)
3.goto rsd1in BI development for activataing the info objects which you have added extra in the info source (z info objects )
activate these info objects and collect in another request
4.transport these info objects from BI dev to BI quality
5.transport entire data source to bw quality.

An InfoCube describes (from an analysis point of view) a self-contained dataset, for example, for a business-orientated area. You analyze this dataset in a BEx query.
An InfoCube is a set of relational tables arranged according to the star schema: A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.
Use
InfoCubes are filled with data from one or more InfoSources or other InfoProviders. They are available as InfoProviders for analysis and reporting purposes.
Structure
The data is stored physically in an InfoCube. It consists of a number of InfoObjects that are filled with data from staging. It has the structure of a star schema.
The real-time characteristic can be assigned to an InfoCube. Real-time InfoCubes are used differently to standard InfoCubes.

Use
InfoObjects are the smallest units of BI. Using InfoObjects, information is mapped in a structured form. This is required for constructing InfoProviders.
InfoObjects with attributes or texts can themselves also be InfoProviders (if in a query).

How to dispay the text values of the info objects in my transformations

Can any one say how to do a lookup for a text table. For example for a particular customer number i need to get the customer name from the text table.In the same way i need to display the text values of the info objects in my transformations. It would be great if any one could send me the code.

Replicated data in Master(Info Object) Urgent

Hi ,
I hv a Profit center master Data, which s getting updated from 0PROFIT_CTR_ATTR Datasource( 7.0), and 0PROFIT_CTR_TEXT Datasource(3.5),In both the PSAS im getting exact data as r/3,Now when I execute a DTP for Attribute Datasource,& schedule a Info package for text Datasource, and then check for the Data in Master Info Object I see that Data is being Replicated for every record.
In R/3 & PSA all the records are getting updated correctly with correct Dates ( Date To & date From)
The Data Pattern used is From (01.01.1900) To (31.12.2999) and the whole Data is correct.
But in MasterData i.e Info object these I find that Along With These Date Records, the Records are being replicated with some other Dates which are not there in r/3
Please advice

as the attribute is time dependent you will get the dates from 01.01.1000 to 31.12.1999.
hence dates betn 01.01.1000 to 31.12.1899 will be there, hence nothing wrong in it.

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:

According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,

Excel data source and the use of add command

HI, Looking for suggestions on how to work with multiple inputs that cannot be joined directly. Here's the background.
The Report currently reads in two different Ecel files and uses 3 SQL commands to query an Oracle Database. I need to join the 5 data sources and am having issues with the 2 excel files. In one file I need to be able to derive a field based on another column in the file In order to create the join condition to the SQL commands. I'd equate this to a case statement in SQL, but how goes one do that using the 'add command' feature? What is the syntax?
Next I would need to join (left outer) the two excel files using two fields from file A (a1, a2) and 3 fields from file B (b1,b2,b3), where a1=b1 and b2 <= a2 <= b3 when rows from A exist in B. If row A does not exist in B then we still want it in the report and available to left outer join to the 3 oractab data sources.
runtime is also a concern.
Any Suggestions?

hi Elena,
in this case the use of subreports is not recommended. that's because you're exporting to excel and you need data in columns across the report. subreports will not, unfortunately, give you what you need.
this would bring you back to joining the datasources. what i would recommend is looking into using 'oracle database link' to link your oracle db to excel files. here's one article as an example but you may be able to find a better one. if you have questions on this please ask them on an oracle forum as the syntax that you need will be database specific.
a lot of databases have this type of technology which allows you to create a view to other data. sql server has 'linked servers', sap hana has 'smart data access'. essentially you are creating a non-materialized view to the external data. then this view is available on the main oracle server where you established this connection. this should be a lot easier than trying to bring a bunch of command objects together off independent datasources inside of crystal.

Data source and Extract Structure

I have a doubt on Data source and Extract Str,
when i used one info cube with some char and kf's
after i did extraction shall we change the extract strcuture prequently other wise better to use all the predefined extract strcuture hide in data source.
if i hide in datasource after extraction i want to use some of hide fields, so we can use it? if we can use how can we extract data for that specified hide fields to bw side.

If you wont to create the genaric data source at that time
you can create cube with some char and kf.
after extraction you wont to modify the structure ? if you mofify
the structure then replicate the data source and delete the data
and upload the data from r/3 to bw.its not correct way every time modifying the
structure.if you put hide means that fields are not coming to
bw side.if put modify the hide field ,first goto rsa6 edit data source
remove the hide check box and save after come to bw replicate the data source
delete the data and load the data (if you wont full data for hide field)
if you dont load full load means only available upto data only what ever field you modify the
hide to unhide,

Are both Data Source and Data Store the same in BI? If not can someone explain what each one of these terms mean.

Data Source or Persistent Staging Area is a transparent database table or initial store in BI. In this table the requested data is saved unchanged from the Source System.
DataStore Objects are primary physical database storage objects used in BI. They are designed to store very detailed transactional level records.
