Text direction button in indesign 6 seems to be missing

Have been googling how to use arabic text in InDesign 6.
I need to create a brochure with text in both Arabic and English.
Found section on Adobe World-Ready Paragraph composer - but then when going to set the text direction as in the tutorial - the text direction button it shows in the screen shot is not available to me?

  • Right to Left glitch in illustrator CS6, CC2014 and NO Text direction button.

On a MAC OSX machine and in my laptop (Windows 8 (64 bit) I am having issues with Illustrator CS6. The  Text direction button that is supposed to be in the Paragraphs palette is missing. Is there something special I have to download in order to get it or something?
    Thanks.

I am now thinking it might be a license thing, but I would like someone from Adobe to confirm this (and possible explain why this is). I am a student, and I use the student license, furthermore the Windows 7 PC I was using was a school computer which is using an educational liscense(all of the computers at school which use and Educational Volumne License are missing this Text Direction button). However another student has the full version and has the Text direction, and when he makes files and brings them school, sometimes his files gives an error when he opens it and it says this photohosp file was made with a different text engine, and then procedes to get stuck in RTL. He has Windows 8 PC and the full version of PS CS6, that is the only reason I think of that is different.

  • Right to Left glitch in Photoshop CS6, and NO Text direction button.

On a windows 7 machine I am having issues with Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64 Extended writing in the wrong direction, its goinf RTL instead of LTR. And the Text direction button that is suppsed to be in the Paragraphs palette is missing. I deleted preferences twice and that didnt change anything. I switched back and forth between Midles Eastern and East Asian, and that did nothing as well. I look at my laptop MBP (MAC OS X 10.6), which has PS CS6 Extended 13.0.5 x64, and I dont have the problem with it being locked in RTL, however, my laptop doesnt have the text direction button either, and doing the previous methods did not give me that option. Is there something special I have to download in order to get it or something?
Here is what the button looks like:
    Here is what I have:
Just so you know I hav read this thread, and tried all of the Methods and NONE of them worked for EITHER Operating System.
Also here is a Video for Windows 7 and a video for MAC OS X and the do opposite methods switching to either to East Asian or Middle East(both videos do the oppposite).

  • How do you change the text direction in Adobe InDesign CS6?

My version is the middle eastern version and i don't want my punctuations to go to the start of the sentence. Also, i went to preferences>type and i can't find the text engine option so i'm lost right now.

Try Mail Preferences/Junk tab and under " When Junk Mail Arrives" click Performe Custom Action then advanced
you will see the option for colors.
    Hope this helps

  • Right-to-left text direction missing in Indesign CC 9.2

I'm trying to localize an English file to Arabic. According to some of Adobe help files there should be text direction in the Paragraph menu but I don't see them. The "Reverse Layout" option that is available in InDesign CS5 ME is not available in InDesign CC. How can I reverse the layout in InDesign CC and how can add the text direction buttons. I'm sure they are not there so do I need to download something additional.
    Please help!

You need to download and install the English-Hebrew or English-Arabic version. In the CC Desktop App you can click the gear icon and change the language to access them.

  • Using InDesign CC on Windows 7 Ultimate.  Every time I hit the text tool button the program crashes

When using InDesign CC, every time I hit the text tool button, the program crashes.

Arpit thanks, I have almost exactly the same issue, except that any editing of any kind in my Indesign CC seems to cause a crash.Windows 7 home premium.64bit
I have received the same solution as you gave above, from the tech team, but cant find the correct file to add the "CopyPlugins.vbs script." to....I get an error message telling me to try again and chose the file adobe indesign CC, and yet that's what I'm doing. There must be an instruction missing for finding the correct file.

  • Why text and button links on a PDF do not work in the iPad

I have Acrobat Pro 9.2.3 and InDesign CS5.
I've tried creating both button and text links directly from InDesign (Window > Interactive > Hyperlinks). I then export the multi-page PDF with "Acrobat 6 and Above" selected as well as the "Hyperlinks" and "Interactive Elements" checked. When I open the PDF in my iPad, none of the text or button links work.
    Then . . .
I tried opening the same multi-page PDF in Acrobat Pro, and manually created the link boxes (Tools > Advanced Editing > Link Tool). The iPad still can't interprete these two interactive elements.
Any clues what I'm doing wrong?

Try exporting as ePub - now test inside Digital Editions and if OK - drag the file into iTunes and synch to iPhone/iPad.
It's probably a Preview issue as mentioned but exporting to ePub is good fun!

  • How can I centralise text on button?

    Hi
I made button graphic using some fill effects, and then wanted to add some text to it. Of course I could just put a text frame on top of it and group them, then convert to button, and that works fine. The problem is when I want to add the rollover effect. I just wanted to add a simple glow effect for this, but if I used a grouped item, it places the glow effect on both items in the group, including the text, ruining the graphic.
I could type the text directly into the button graphic to avoid these double effects, but then I cannot align the text vertically within the button, because unlike text frames, graphics frames do not offer a vertical alignment option.
The only viable option seems to be to place and addition graphic into the rollover effect from a file, which seems to be over-complicated and messy. Intuitively I would have thought a rollover state could be created simply by dragging another graphic into that position - but that's not possible either,
Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this?

    [edit]
I've solved the problem by using baseline shift, but this does not seem to be the right way of going about it to me...

Try this: do not apply the glow effect to the group, only apply it to the background form. To do this, only select the background form with the direct selection tool and open effects window.

  • Text input boxes same colour as background - so "invisible", and button text or buttons often missingt

I have turned off all addons/extensions/plugins - still the same problem:
1: Text input boxes appear to be the same colour as the background - and hence "invisible"
2: Clickable buttons on websites are often invisible, or if they display have no text; e.g. button to right of google search ("go" button?) is seen as a plain box with no text - although button is clickable.
3: Google webpage usually has an image - this is missing, and merely has "UK" to the top left of the input box.
4: On this page for example I can see directly above this text box two vertical black lines - it appears to be a button with a pop-up "insert a link" - it can obviously be clicked when I mouse over it.

  • Text wrapping buttons no longer appear in Pages 4.1

When a movable object is selected in Pages, the relevant toolbar appears. When the Text Wrapping button is clicked, however, the drop-down menu is blank:
I tried this in multiple documents and the same thing happened.
The text wrapping tools still work, but it is impossible to tell between them except through trial-and-error.
I just updated iWork to 9.1 (Pages 4.1) and that's when it started happening.
Is this just a glitch in the new version or can I do something to fix it? Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks for any help!

Apple removed colors from most of the system windows .
For instance, there is no longer color for the circular buttons at left top of windows
They didn't change the GUI in some applications. It seems that this apply to apps which must be able to run in Snow Leopard as well as in Lion.
Removing the colors in rev 9.1.0 would have introduced inconsistency in Snow Leopard in which iWork '09 will be 'frozen' soon.
Keeping them introduce an inconsistency in Lion but, as you know, I guess that next major version of iWork will be Lion only, I guess that colors will be removed in this one. So the inconsistency will disapear.

  • How to Copy the formatting of text already in an indesign document?

    Hello everybody.
I'm still fairly new to indesign and am self taught so feel I have missed some of the little tools that make life simpler.
One such problem I'm having is that when I import text into my brochure I'm creating, I need it to be formatted the same as the rest of the text in my project. Is there a simple way for me to copy the formatting style in the rest of the document or do I have to choose the specific font, colour, size and justification every time I import some new text?
I know in Microsoft word for example there is a specific button which copy's the formatting from one section of text to another, is there a similar kind of button in indesign?
    Thanks
    Ant

You can use the Eyedropper tool to copy type  attributes. But you are probably much better off learning how to use Paragraph Styles and applying them consistently. That way when you need to make a change, all your paragraphs will update in lock-step.

  • How to edit text in an existing InDesign document?

I'm unfamiliar with InDesign, and I apologize in advance for what I'm sure
is a very beginner/dumb question, but I'm stuck. I've been using the Help
files, so far to no avail.
I have been given the simple (I thought!) task of changing a few lines of
text on an existing InDesign file, using CS3. But I have not been able to
edit these lines of text. What I've tried is selecting the text and using
the Text tool, but nothing that I do has made it possible for me to delete
text and type in new text.
Help of any kind would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Patty

Hi Kenneth,<br /><br />I checked, and "Frame Edges" are not turned off, and Hidden Characters isn't <br />selected.<br /><br />What I mean by "nothing" is this: the cursor looks like the Eiffel Tower <br />with two curves coming out of the top. When I click and drag, the cursor <br />moves, but there nothing else happens visually at all.<br /><br />The above is what happens on the part of the document where I want to make <br />the edit. In other parts of the document, following the same steps draws a <br />light-blue-bordered rectangle. When I release the mouse button, the <br />rectangle stays, and has a # sign on its left edge, and the cursor is a <br />vertical line and blinking. But when I type, the cursor moves, but no <br />letters appear. This is at least something, but it isn't happening in the <br />part of the document I want to edit..   :\<br /><br />Patty<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />>> When I follow those instructions, dragging does nothing.<br />><br />> If you followed these instructions, dragging should produce a text box,<br />> an empty container with a flashing cursor before an end-of-story mark.<br />> This might appear to be "nothing", especially if you have Frame Edges<br />> turned off (in View menu) and Hidden Characters hidden (in Type menu).<br />> But as soon as you begin typing, you should see letters appearing.<br />><br />> Might be easier to try it first in a new, empty document, or off the<br />> edge of the page.<br />><br />> -- <br />> Kenneth Benson<br />> Pegasus Type, Inc.<br />> www.pegtype.com

  • Question about Creating Buttons in InDesign CS5

Now that InDesign CS5 has what I hope to find is a fairly robust interactive workspace, I've begun building a portfolio web site using the program.
But I'm having trouble understanding how to create a text "next" button that has
1.) a rollover state where "next" becomes bold and black
2.) has an action associated with it that takes the viewer to the next state.
In other words, once clicked, the "next" button should take the viewer from seeing the image of a brochure cover to an image of an inside spread.
Any tips on how the Appearance section works in the Button palette, or where to go to find out?
Should I be creating separate text "next" buttons for the Normal, Rollover and On Click states? And should these be sitting on different Layers?
Maybe it's a combination of working with Animation, Buttons and Object States?
    It's sort of complex...
I reviewed the "InDesign CS5 New Features" tutorial on lynda.com, which was great and gives some examples, but doesn't address my exact problem.
Anyone working with this kind of scenario?
    Thanks, Steve

Never mind. I figured it out. I can't believe how poorly designed this entire Adobe site function.
Amazing...the screen says "Welcome sssttteeevvveee" in the top left corner, which, of course makes you think you're logged in, right?
But no. You need to click on the login/register link under the black Forums box...like, why?
Note to Adobe. TIme for a little rethink here.

  • Text disappearing and reappearing InDesign CC

Hi there, this being my 1st post please excuse any errors in eticate...
I have an issue within InDesign CC when editing text in text boxes.
Intermitently it seems that when highlighting text it seems to dissapear before oyu can edit it, BUT it is in fact still there. If you Zoom out and in again hay presto it re-appears...
This seems to only have started since the last software update and when working on a 72pp A5 Programme full of text on a tight turnaround it is getting rather frustrating.
I have a friend who works for another company who seems to be having the same issue and again since the last software update
I have attached a screen shot of how it looks when it happens
    Please help...

This has done nothing for me. The invisible text continues to persist. I Command Tab to my Word doc. Command Tab back to InDesign and where I was working that chunk of text will be invisible. I can highlight it and shows it is still there, but I can't see it. I can only see it by zooming in or out of the document. It is beyond frustrating. It is slowing my work process down considerably because I lose my place constantly and having to zoom in and out is a pain.
The IDML files do nothing either. This happens on all documents!!!

  • PDF Tags Exported By InDesign Seem to be Corrupt

There seems to be a huge difference between tags created by Acrobat's "Add Tags to Document" and the tags that are exported by InDesign   All of the InDesign tags seem to be missing the "Structure Tag" property after export, and if I try to move them between containers they either become normal or disappear at random.  If I try to export from Acrobat to a text file, the text that came from InDesign never gets exported.
I'm currently testing the InDesign CS6 trial version.

It looks like the corruption is occurring when I try to append the InDesign PDF to another PDF.  There needs to be some way to combine files though... this is so completely frustrating.
