Text disappearing using Preview to edit PDF

I had an attorney draw up a contract for my company a few years back and I would like to make some changes to the contract, all relatively minor.  When I open the file I am able to make changes to certain "cells" but other text boxes dissappear when I click on them.  I am unable to undo any changes and end up having to delete the document and start over.
Is there any way to delete or modify text using preview, or is there a setting that I am missing?
Thanks

Hi bob

  • HT2506 I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any Preview updates in the works. I find there is a problem with Preview crashing, or taking a very long time to "catch up" (spinning beachball of death) while I'm editing.

I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any updates to this program in the works. It seems Apple is constantly updating its software, except for Preview. I find it crashes all too often, and also takes forever to "catch up" with me (as in spinning beachball of death) when I'm editing a lrge amount of photos. Yes, I know I should be using Photoshop or somesuch, but it's just too **** confusing, and I don't have the time to figure it out. Thanks!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Where can I find a user-guide for the awfull Text-Editor used to enter/edit these forums entries?

I am desesperate to understand how quite basic functions (just as one of many examples: how can I paste text, that I have formatted in MS Word and want to paste into a Forum Post-Entry?) can be done with the primitive and awful Text Editor used to enter/edit Forum Entries. Notice, that like many other Adobe users, I am not familiar at all with HTML and it is therefore a description of the badly named "Full Editor" that I am looking for.
Where can I find a User-Guide for this Text Editor?
My recommendation to Adobe: exercise enough  brute pressure on the developers of this primitive Text Editor to force them to provide something more reasonable, more powerful and more intuitive.

    Thank You Jochem
I was trying to understand how I could do things as simple as inserting text that I had previously copied. Since there are neither command menüs nor buttons for the Insert of previously copied text, I was trying a mouse right click.....and was being offered in the context menu the choice between "Insert Link", "Insert Image", "Alignement", and "Insert Table"....... but no possibility of a plain insert of previously copied text.
Now, I realize, that Clearstream supports at least the keyword shortcut of "Ctrl V" ........that I am not using in any other software (I never use any keyboard shortcuts).
Since Clearstream does not support reasonable choices in the contextual menus, I will need to memorize the most important keyword shortcuts.
By the way: I detected now, that the "Ctrl V" keyboard shortcut allows me to insert formatted text.
Even, if I will now begin to be able to use reasonably Clearstream, I am quite surprised to see that such a software provides neither reasonable Contextual Menus, nor a User Guide, nor........
Thank you again Jochem for your patience with me.

  • Opening PDF files using preview on some PDF file result in the content not displaying properly. The file I tried to look at has pictures and text. The pictures are displayed ok but the text is shown as pixalated boxes. The same file opens ok via a PC.

Solutions please. Accessing PDF files online using preview normally works ok. However there are a clutch of files on the mothers union web site that although can be opened, present text as pixalated boxes. The pictures contained in the documents are however displayed OK. I experience the same problem on my Imac and my wifes laptop that runs Lion. The same site has other PDF files that can be opend OK. If I access the same problem files using a PC laptop running microsoft windows, they are opened OK with the text displayed as it should be. This is driving me mad....

The offending PDF files were created using word
Yes. Word 2007. (You can see it in Preview if you do ⌘I or choose Tools > Show Inspector.) And it's the transparency issue. The three pics attached show the Jan 2012 newsletter (a) in Preview, (b) in Acrobat Pro, (c) again in Preview, after I saved it in Acrobat, flattening the transparency.
For you, the solution is to use Adobe Reader -- with due note taken of
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-01.html>
For them, I don't know. Presumably, they wish max compatibility for their newsletter, but I really don't know how Office 2007 generates PDF. Maybe they should check transparency settings and flatten before generating PDF? Or perhaps save as PDF v1.4 instead of PDF v1.5? I would use Distiller, but perhaps they can't afford it.

  • Text disappears when previewing/ordering photo books - help!

I've made a photo book in iPhoto but when I try to preview it or convert to a pdf it gives me an error message and then creates the book without any text. I'm afraid to order it in case the problem appears in the final edition - the text is very important. Any ideas how to solve the problem?
I've ordered several photo books in the past and never had this problem.

Sorry to string out this thread but I have the answer. Apple provided me this information and it works. hope it helps your problem, too:
    1) Open iPhoto.
    2) Select the book from the Source list on the left.
    3) Choose Print from the File menu.
    4) Click the Preview button on the bottom left. This will create a portable document format (PDF) file and display the file using the Preview application.
    5) Verify that the text is displayed.
    6) If the text is displayed correctly, and if you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. You may skip the rest of these steps.
    7) If the text is not displayed, close the PDF file and quit iPhoto.
    8) While in the Finder, choose Home from the Go menu. Open the Library folder, then open the Preferences folder. Locate the file called "com.apple.iphoto.plist" and drag it to the desktop. This will reset the iPhoto preferences to the default settings.
(Please note that if the Library is located on a separate partition or hard disk, you may need to point iPhoto to the Library location when you reopen iPhoto. You can do this by holding Option while opening iPhoto.)
    9) Reopen iPhoto and preview the book using steps 2 through 5 above. If you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. Then drag com.apple.iphoto.plist to the trash, as it may have been causing the issue.

  • Can't use preview to open pdf files

In the last week Preview has stopped opening my PDF files, it's like the  pdf that comes via email has no link so I have to right click and use "open with" and can only open pdf files now using adobe reader.  I have not installed anything lately so not sure why this has happened recently.
Could a file have been deleted by mistake somewhere or preview become corrupt? Or a setting changed?
Any help would be appreciated as I like using preview (seeing as it was my default program)
Have also clicked on pdf file and did the I command, tried to change it as if new to open with preview and same thing an error message appears.
    Thanks

Adobe Reader installed? If so, remove Reader.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet PLug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click those and select “Move To Trash’.

  • I purchased an $89.99 pack 2 days ago thinking I could use this to edit PDFs. How do I edit PDF document using this package?

I purchased an 89.99 Acrobat pack but can't figure out how to edit PDF's which is the reason I made the purchase. How do I edit with this software?

    Hi peggyb50904266,
I'm sorry for the confusion: Adobe PDF Pack allows you to create and combine PDF files, but not edit them. To do that, you need to use Acrobat. If you'd like, we can switch your PDF Pack subscription for an Acrobat Pro or Standard subscription.

  • How do I use Adobe to Edit PDF files, I have an application form I need to Edit?

I have an application form that is in PDF format, I wish to edit this form by adding text to specific fields, how do I go about doing this?

If the file has fields - actual PDF fields, you just type. The text goes in the fields.
Or do you want to turn it into a fillable form?
Or do you want to fill in, a non fillable form, just once?
By the way if you have an application form and it isn't fillable, they DON'T expect you to fill it. Just print it and treat it like it came in the mail.

  • Menu Widget: Text disappears when previewed in browser ?

    Hi All,
I've created a site and have a top level page, with a sub-page.
The site uses the Menu widget in Muse to create a menu with dropdowns for the sub-pages. However, when I preview the site in the browser, the state on the menu for the top-level page 'Normal and 'Active' functions disspears.
It does re-appear on rollover, so the browser knows it's there, but it isn't being displayed.
    Any idea why?
And how I can fix this?
(Ive attached screenshots of the page within Muse and then the same page once previewed within the browser)
As always, soloutions and replies most apprieciated!
    Browser preview
    Browser preview on rollover function
    Cheers!
    Robbie.

    Hi Robsta,
Looking at your 1st posted image, above, I would say (recommend) that the 2nd blue guide, from the top (the header guide), should be moved down and put just below your menu ... do this on the 'master page' ... thats the header guide line ... everything 'below' that line is page content (a menu is not page content) hence content changes throughout your website ... everything 'above' that line is your header information and stays in the same place regardless which page you are on and is shown on ALL pages ...
Now, if that doesn't fix the problem (the blue guide that needs moving, should be moved nevertheless) ... is it possible that some of the 'active' states in your menu have got messed up when you were changing your button colours? ... this would only happen if you were editing the menu with the 'Edit Together', 'unticked' ... I can see that the active state is set to grey already hence just asking ... also, sometimes if the 'header' guide is not where it should be, it does hide things below it as it doesn't know what should be shown or not ...so it's just a thought ... ...
    cheers,

  • I want to use preview to view pdf files without trashing the adobe plug-ins?

Some of the government web sites that I need to visit regularly require me to use firefox and adobe for opening and viewing files. I would like to still be able to use Safari and Preview for opening, viewing and printing files from other web sites. Before the latest adobe update this was no problem, but now Adobe seems to have taken control over the viewing and printing settings so that even though I try printing from a Safari viewer window I get an Adobe message that this is not supported. I tried to search for an answer as I suppose I am not the only one having this problem after the most recent Adobe update. Thanks for your great help everyone. /Christian

See if either of these help you.

  • Can't use brush when editing pdf

When I try to edit a pdf file, using a brush, I only get the international no symbol.
If I open a new file the brush works fine. What do I need to change in the pdf to allow the brush to be used?
The other tools all work fine.
I have tried flatening the file, changing color mode, adding a layer

Yes, I know this. But what is curious to me is that since this file was imported so to speak, why is the natural default  non-existant. Unlike an ai file that has been edited. It is in effect a new file. Seems wierd. In other words there is no natrual default for the brush like there is for the pen or pencil?
I think this is a glitch, because it does not compute.
When you open a new file in ai and delete all the brushes, it will not let you delete the last one which is called 50pt flat. This makes sense it would seem that this is the natural default, that i am expecting to see in my imported "new" file.
    So, where did it go?

  • Text disappears when editing a layer in Dreamweaver 8

I have had a problem for a long time now with text
disappearing while I'm editing it in a layer. If I scroll up to the
top of the page and down again (sometimes a couple of times), the
text will reappear, but this is cumbersome (and rather annoying).
Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something I'm doing
incorrectly? Any help anyone can offer would be greatly
    appreciated.

Do you still have this problem when you
select that layer in the layers panel?

  • Preview as default PDF reader in Safari

I've posted to this question, but since my problem seems to be unique - thought it might deserve to be a new topic. I Have the Adobe/Acrobat-caused problem that caused Safari to quit using Preview to read PDF files. What seems to be unique though, is that Navigator and Firefox both work perfectly. It is only Safari that I haven't been able to restore to its previous operation in which it downloaded and automatically read PDF files. I've trashed everything relating to Acrobat, all appropriate plists, and changed the "Open With" to use Preview for all files; and still no luck...Safari will open and display the files, but will not download the file and let Preview open it.
Thanks for any suggestions - this really has me baffled.

After Safari opens the PDF, you ought to be able to right click (or control/click) on the browser screen to engage the Contextual Menu. There, "save as" etc. ought to appear. Have you tried this approach.
Contextual Menu, in part, looks like this:

  • Any description on how to use the Text Editor used for this Forum?

I am very frustrated when trying to use the text Editing functions (without use of HTML, that I do not undertstand) that can be used to create Posts in this Forum .
Can somebody point me to a good description of the Text Editor used to enter/edit Posts in this Forum? Thanks a lot in advance.

    Ian,
Thank You very much for your answer.
Based on your answer, I guess and fear, that there exist no "user guide" for this Text Editor.
I will wait a little bit more to see whether I get more information/answers. If not, i will probably write a "Feature Request" to request that Adobe provides us or point us to a reasonable User-Guide for this Text Editor.
