TEXT DROPPING OUT ON GOOGLE, YOUTUBE, VIMEO
I have Premiere CS3 running on a new Toshiba laptop (AMD/4GB RAM) running Windows 7. My problem... I am able to export working movies to my laptop and they work perfectly, however... when I upload to an internet video service such as Google, YouTube, or Vimeo, some of the text drops out and nothing but black space is shown. Not all the text does this; just four lines.
What might I be doing wrong with these four text lines? Hopefully this is an easy one for some of the pros out there. Many thanks for the help.

I saw your post across in the ID forum as well.
One thing to remember is never dismiss the latest version of a product. Also, mixed versions of file supply can also be head-scratching since it involves many variables. Here's some background info on the way ACROBAT used to work (remembering Adobe PDF is the core technology underneath CS applications when they export to PDF using the PDF library).
Acrobat 7 (CS2) - combining PDFs - problems with merging PDFs with subsetted fonts
Acrobat 8 (CS3) - combining PDFs - generally NO problems with merging PDFs with subsetted fonts
Acrobat 9 (CS4) - combining PDFs - generally NO problems with merging PDFs with subsetted fonts
In addition, a mixture of CS2 and CS3 PDFs (Acrobat 7 and 8) can also clash between themselves ..
Hope you can attain a baseline since mentioned, there's a lot of variable here.
Jon
Sorry to not really help here but I'd like to add that the problem extends further than Acrobat 7 (CS2) and on to the Adobe Core in older RIPS. specifically We saw this with CS3 Exported PDFs which were fine on screen in Acrobat but would drop or squish text through the RIP with a 3016 Adobe Core. (3016 effectively equals Acrobat7.) We never nailed the exact mechanisms to reproduce this behaviour but CS2 generated PDFs with subset fonts that were then combined with CS2 or CS3 and re-exported on the same page or PDF were always double-checked on plate. Our customer who was plagued by this when mixing CS2 and CS3 has fully migrated to CS3, and we're running with an APPE RIP, and havn't had one go bad since.

Text droppping out of SWF file
I am having a new problem with files I work with all the time
in Flash MX version 6.0. When I upload my swf file, some of the
text drops out. You can see an example of this by going to
http://www.ballyhoostories.com/ballyhoo/main.html?1
(click on the Table of Contents tab on the left and then go to
Contact the Editors). The large text at the very bottom should read
CONTACT, but instead reads NTAT, with spaces where the other
letters should be. I notice when I publish the swf file, that the
flash icon does not appear in the file list, but insead looks like
a generic document icon, which leads me to belive it's not
publishing properly.ballyhoostories wrote:

try to change the font used for that text. Make sure it's not
dynamic but static.

Why do italics drop out when I copy text to Thunderbird messages?
Whenever I copy text to or from Thunderbird, attributes such as boldface and italics usually (but perhaps not always) drop out. I can always italicize text when It's in a message. What must I do to make copying already italicized text possible?

Hey guys
Looking for some advice.
Currently living in a house with BT Infinity (its rented so I'm not the bill payer), when Infinity was installed everything worked fine - no problems at all.
Recently however (and I'm not convinced something hasn't been damaged by the building site directly opposite the house) we get constant broadband drop outs. Interestingly it also does appear to get worse during heavy rain.
Our BT Home Hub is a Home Hub 2.0 (I think), firmware version shows as:
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 (Type A)
The hub and the other white box have been restarted many times, it doesn't make a difference.
Since we started having issues, to rule out this being a WiFi related issue, I have a linux netbook attached directly to the Home Hub via Ethernet cable to run tests on. The majority of the time, the connection is fine (and we get a 100% ping return), however we appear to go through prolonged periods of losing about 50% of all pings on my tests. During these period, no computers on the network appear to be able to load any pages from the internet, but pings to the hub are always 100% (unless the hub was being restarted by one of us).
To keep tabs on things, I ran a tracert to www.google.co.uk and then scraped all of the nearby IPs from it (so the first few hops). Using that, I wrote a quick bash script to send out pings and then record to a text file anytime they fail. For anyone who is interested the bash script being used is here: http://pastebin.com/uEycEpdy
The output from the bash script after running all weekend is here:
19/01/14 (running from midday): http://pastebin.com/mtc5Euu0
20/01/14 (ending at 5:30pm) 1: http://pastebin.com/xnScepvy 2: http://pastebin.com/XQRk9eWW
It's ultimately weird! Its also worth noting that all of the lights on the Hub remain blue even when the connection is dead on the computers. It does appear during the issues the netbook can't even ping the first IP address (first hop) after our hub so wondering if it is a line issue (although the line checker on the website says its fine).
Any ideas? Since BT won't talk to me and we don't have a landline phone to test if there is a dial tone I'm wondering it anyone has any suggestions? Currenty bugging the landlord to sort it but you know what they are like!
Many thanks!Hi hammeh,

Gradients dropping out when opening PDFs in Illustrator
Hi everyone. I work for a large format printing company. We receive thousands of files every year from many different designers. We started to notice that gradients would drop out of some PDFs when opening them in Illustrator but they would preview fine when opened in Acrobat. I searched high and low for an explanation for this glitch. The only response I received is "Stop opening exported PDFs in Illustrator." This is an unsatisfactory answer for someone that needs to preflight directly in the Illustrator program. I've done a ton of research and have been racking my brain for the last 2 years and have finally found sufficient workarounds for this issue. The downfall with these workarounds: all spot colors located in the gradients will convert to CMYK mixes. I'm still researching to see if there is a way to keep spot colors intact in these areas.
A little back story: InDesign is converting the gradients into something called NChannel. It enables more accurate handling of color blending by including additional dot gain and color mixing info. Both InDesign and Acrobat have the ability to display these elements whereas Illustrator, from what I’m finding, does not. Which is why we’re seeing gradient elements drop out when opened in Illustrator.
Workaround for CMYK Gradients
Open PDF exported from INDD in Acrobat
Go to Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors
Object Type: Smooth Shade (this tells Acrobat to hone in on Gradients only)
Color Type: DeviceCMYK
Check Embed next to Conversion Profile (should be SWOP)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select DeviceCMYK in Color Spaces then click ok
Save the PDF
Workaround for 1 Spot Color in Gradients (Converts Spot Color located in Gradient to CMYK – all other Spots stay intact)
Open PDF exported from INDD in Acrobat
Go to Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors
Object Type: Smooth Shade (this tells Acrobat to hone in on Gradients only)
Color Type: Spot Color
Check Embed next to Conversion Profile (should be SWOP)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select the Spot that is located in the Gradient in Color Spaces then click ok
Save the PDF
Workaround for 2 Spot Colors in Gradients (Converts Spot Colors located in Gradient toCMYK – all other Spots stay intact)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select the DeviceN spot color that is located in the Gradient in Color Spaces then click ok
Save the PDF
Please test it and let me know if you run into any issues with these workarounds. I'm always looking for new problems to solve!
- Jennyyou said--"...needs to preflight directly in the Illustrator program. I've done a ton of research and have been racking my brain for the last 2 years and have finally found sufficient workarounds for this issue"
Your workarounds seem time consuming and (possibly) unnecessary for the following reasons:
1. large format printers use 4-8 colors to achieve color (so spot colors shouldn't be an issue)
2. Acrobat Pro has it's own 'preflight' function that works fairly well
additionally (don't know if you know this) there is an add-on to acrobat called 'Pitstop' (google it) that allows just about any change/correction/alteration to be made to a PDF
...and...opening a PDF in illustrator (that wasn't created in illustrator--do you know how to determine this?) can lead to many problems i.e. gradients dropping out, text reflow, etc.
as far as testing your workarounds, seriously, who has the time when there are tools available that make using them unnecessary (this assumes that you have created these 'workarounds' to match your worflow--but a nearly pure PDF workflow should work in this day and age, depending on your RIP and software). -
How can I set up an SMS group so that all group members can dial a group number and have a text sent out to all members of the group
This would be an SMS group similar to an email listserv but running on the SMS network
I have seen private individuals offering this service
It seems strange to me that no internet site like Apple, Yahoo or Google offers this as a free service much as the email group services are free services.
SteveI think the app GroupMe might do what you want. You might also try contacting your carrier. My carrier offered some fancy group texting service for a while but they never really advertised it so, unless you asked, you never would have known. But, GroupMe is available in the app store. There are lots of other apps that also do group texting but it seems to be the one that gets recommended the most.

Single letters dropping out in PDFs exported from Indesign CS
We are having font issues in some of our magazine's advertisements which proved very costly last month. First let me describe the work flow.
We designed an ad in Indesign CS then exported it using the press setting in Indesign's PDF export option. Here the ad looked and printed fine. The ad was then placed in another Indesign file which was for the layout of one of our magazines. Here the ad still looked fine on screen and when printed out from Indesign. This next step is where the font issue occurs.
When we export the the final magazine's press ready Indesign file, through the PDF press setting in Indesign again, single letters in these problem ads drop out. For example all of the Ds' in the entire ad will be missing. So a sentence in the ad that read "Dirt is Dark" will read " irt is ark."
I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem occur and if they have a solution. The only thing I can think of is in the compression settings there is an option to compress text and line art. We are going to try to uncheck that box to see if it fixes the problem.
Thank you for you help,
Javin.I realized, of course, that it does make a difference. If you don't have the fonts on your system, a frequent issue with incoming ads, you couldn't embed the full font at all. You need to be sure that ads generated in CS have fully embedded fonts, not subsets, or risk dropouts. It will only happen when more than one ad uses the same font, but different glyphs.

Flash audio level drop outs (Windows 8.1)
Hey,
Using adobe flash, I've been having issues with to audio nearly dropping out to nearly inaudible levels on mutiple websites. Anything that does use the flash player, it seems to be triggered when I plug in another device into the computer for use, or charging although it doesn't seem to be 100% consistant and seems less likely after reinitiating the flash player, but would happen after having the flash player open for a longer period of time then attaching a device. My current work around is to either load up a different browser e.g. Google Chrome, which will use it's own plugin container containing another instance of flash. Or to end task on flash from my task manager, then reload the page. which would restore proper audio levels. This does not appear to be specific to one webpage, or to one brower.

While steams loader was active in the background it would cause the flash audio to drop out. I don't know any reason why it would cause this, but have just disabled steam from starting up at all. Any insight on why these two programs would clash and cause audio issues would be greatly appreciated.

Does AMC adjust so YouTube/Vimeo videos are not too dark
Hi, been having problems with videoes coming out too dark in YouTube. This seems to be a problem lots of people are having. Just to clarify I mean the video is a lot darker on youtube/vimeo than if played in something like VLC on the same monitor.
Was wondering if ABC brigtened up to image to compensate for this?
BenThese are the settings I use for online uploads:
High Profile @ Level 5.0
VBR, 2-Pass
Target Bitrate: 168.75 (max)
Enable: Maximum Bit Depth
Key Frame Distance: 7
Baseline Profile @ Level 5.0
VBR, 2-Pass
Target Bitrate: 135 (max)
Enable: Maximum Bit Depth
Key Frame Distance: 10
Also: In the Multiplexer tab check that Stream Compatibility is set to Standard. It defaults to iPod.
Try rendering a short test clip using the two settings and let me know how they look in YouTube. If neither file works, please import to your NLE and post a screen capture of the same frame from the ProRes, AME H.264, and transcoded YouTube files. You can download the files from the Video Manager page; the option is listed near the bottom of the pulldown menu that starts with "Edit".
EDIT: Added note regarding multiplexer stream compatibility. -
I can only access my wi if, when I have no network signal. As soon as I move to a better signal area, my wi Di connection drops out.
I have music on my phone, but again, I cannot access this in the gym, when I have a network signal.
I also cannot access some of my apps, as they are greyed out. Please adviseGrey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to connect an iPod to multiple computers, play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
Managing content manually on iPod
Using iPod with Multiple computers
Syncing Music to iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod -
Broadband drops out way too much!
I would like to know how BT justify their price hikes. I am now paying nearly £50 a month (basic) for phone and broadband, they can't even give a decent service! I AM SICK of my internet dropping out about 15 times a day! I had nothing but trouble with BT when I first signed up and it hasn't got any better. Why am I paying for unlimited broadband if they can't supply it? I have two laptops and an xbox. The xbox is wired, whereas the laptops are both wireless. But as soon as a combination of them are on, the connection is rubbish and speed is terrible. Sometimes it even drops when just one device is connected to the internet! I'm tired of seeing the "BT Hub not working" site and I am definately tired of my xbox live gaming experience being ruined by constant lagging and even being booted from games due to the drop outs! BT need to sort out their service because VERY SOON they will be told where to go..... Without getting a penny!

£50.00 a month for phone and broadband, someone is stitching you up or you make a lot of chargeable calls.
Previous bills for Unlimited calls, and BT Infinity Option 2 Unlimited:
29.49
29.87
26.15
28.65
29.00
add to these the monthly equivalent of the Line saver rental £10 a month
As for your wireless connection, a lot can be down to the type of house construction you have.
I see from your post that this is the 1st post you have made. Why not post ypour hub stats on here so members can see if there is a problem that might be easily sorted.
Also do a BT speedtest ( wired if possible ).
You say you are using some wireless eqipment, are they all Wireless N capable, or are some b/g.
you can try a download of inssider2 for PC or istumbler for MAC users and then run it. This will then show you the broadcasting networks close to yours and their channels including your own. You can then enter your Routers admin pages and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
Google search inssider2 or istumbler
Please post back, there are many members who are willing to give some advice to try and sort your problems out.

30 minute Drop Out - BT Infinity
I got Infinity in a month ago and it's been grief ever since.
When it works I'm getting 37 download and 8 upload. Fantastic I hear you say... The problem is, that for long periods everyday [but not 27/7] the signal drops out at 30 minutes intervals. Two teenage sons playing xbox live are ready to kill me over it!!
I have had several hours worth of time spent talking to India. All the usual advice has drawn a blank. I was passed to a Teir 2 team person who couldn't get it working. I then had a BT Engineer out. He changed the Open reach box and checked the line. He stated that I'm getting 40meg down and 10 meg up on the line when tested. While he was here the signal didn't drop out. 5 hours later it started again!!
I am now awaiting a second visit from an engineer on 14/11. I know what he'll do, he'll change the Home Hub 3 box for another, wait a while and go. A few hours later I'll be back to square one!!
I have read through other posts here were people have had the 30 minute drop out, but none of them have ended in a solution . If this is wrong, tell me, I'll be happy to read a solution to this.
If it's not the router or open reach box. Then what is it. It's not just one computer and it's not just wired ones either. Everything in the house drops out.
Surely drop out at so regular an interval points to a hardware problem?
Surely if it's happening to others, someone at BT must know how to fix it?
I anyone wants 2 very grumpy teenage boys, I'm yer man!!
Help?So wired and wireless are loosing connection to the internet for periods.
Just wondering if your central heating fires up for a while heating up things then thermostant turns it off... cooling down a bit and internet comes back on.
Is your modem mounted vertically ie on a wall?
The worst situation is having the modem flat with the HomeHub 3 sitting on top of it.
From THIS THREAD.- "After an hour or so of heating my front room the broadband led on my home hub 3 goes orange & I loose my DSL link".

Wireless mouse intermittently drops out/stops working
I have just bought a Mac Mini. I'm not a fan of Apple keyboards or mice, so I've bought a third party keyboard and I'm using a mouse that I already had (Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000). Whilst it works fine with my Macbook Pro and PC, with the mini I get drop outs in the form of jerky movement and occassionally stopping long enough to see it just isn't moving. The mini works fine with a wired mouse.
My gut feeling from playing around with the different mice and computers is that it is actually the aluminium case shielding the signal from the mouse (as both are on the desktop and the mini sits at the back of the desk with the USB ports on the back and a great chunk of aluminium therefore in front of it.
I have a USB hub built in to the monitor, but that seems to have the same problem - the USB ports are behind the panel and associated electronics. Sadly, my keyboard (Ducky Zero DK2108) doesn't have a hub built in, so I can't connect the dongle to that either.
I'm just surprised I haven't seen (after a lot of googling) other complaints about the same. I may have to reluctantly buy a Bluetooth mouse as the BT antenna is of course outside of the Alu case. An alternative may be to use a small USB hub that can be positioned with line-of-sight to the mouse. It seems absurd I would have to do either of those things.
Can anyone else comment on their experiences?

My Ipad mini and Ipad3 continually drop out of wi fi when I open my third party smart cover, as soon as I open the cover i can see the wi fi signal is there but it drops out straight away. I have tried every solution mention on earleir posting, soft reboot, hard reboots and back to factory settings all to no avail, it's so frustrating.
Try #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
