Text edit area appears as inactive/text box is invisible - help?

I'm having this strange issue with the Photoshop type tool in Photoshop CS5. It might be, although I'm not sure, a bug. The tool itself is working and lets me add text and edit it as I please. But the box that shows up when editing text (and the blinking line that shows where I am in the text) - has gone invisible. I am having this issue in only one document. - I tested the type tool on other documents, and everything was normal. I've looked up shotcuts and hotkeys to check if I've tapped a key or something, but it doesn't appear to be so.
Now about the document; it does have quite the amount of text layers, and a lot of text in them.
I've tried resetting the type tool, and I've restarted the program.
When I restart the program, the tool works as it's supposed to - but after editing or adding a new text layer, the editing area is gone again! Is this a bug, or have I touched keys that do odd things?

It's reasonable to suspect having done something odd, since there are SO many things that can affect what you see on the screen.
However, if you're seeing different behavior at different times with doing the exact same things on the same layers then you may well have triggered some kind of bug.
The stock advice is to check to ensure your display driver on your system is updated. On PCs that involved visiting the web site of the maker of your video card and seeking their download for the driver to match your hardware and OS. On Macs one has to ensure the system is fully up to date from Apple.

Why does the text in text boxes go invisible when annotating PDFs in preview?

If I hover my mouse over where the text box is, the little yellow box that tells you what text is there comes up and shows what the box is supposed to say, but the text is invisible. If I double click the area where the text is supposed to be, it highlights and makes the text visible again. Its not that the text is white, because if i drag it over a dark area, it still doesn't show up. This happens when I open it up again after annotating and saving/closing it. I attached pictures of my cursor hovering over the invisible text box, and one of it hovering over an unaffected text box, for comparison. This has happened to me before. What is happening and how do i stop it?

The fact that 'about half the time' you are seeing this issue and presumably not the other part of the time, I would suggest trying to run the 'Repair Database' option in the First Aid dialog:
Quit Aperture > press and hold Option + Command keys while launching Aperture > select and run the 'Repair Database' option.
Post back as needed.

No text appears in my chat box... help!

My iChat crashed last night, and when I opened it back up, everything seemed to be working -- I could see my status as available, see who was online, etc, but when I try to chat nothing appears but the thought bubble like when you're typing. I can't see any text from buddies, and I can't see any of my own text. Anybody have any idea what the problem is or how to fix?

Welcome to the  Discussions
In the View Menu > Messages change the Style to Boxes, Compact or Text (Anything but the default Balloons)
Do you see the messages now ?
If you can try deleting com.apple.iChat.plist from your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and restart iChat
(You will have to reset anything not a default setting that you have made in the iChat Preferences as they will revert to defaults)
Unfortunately you will also lose any Saved Status Messages.

Form text box problems please help???

I am creating a form in adobe XI and am having some problems with a text field I am trying to get the text field to allow me to add multi-line text with rich text editing and I am unable with the setting I have checked. I have gone to properties for the text field and have checked them as follows, Font size is at auto then I went to Options and set it to left alignment and selected multi-line and rich text formatting. But when I have put all the text in the box and I go back to a sentence to make it bold I am unable to do so... Please help??????

How are you trying to set the text as bold? Are you using the Properties bar?

Help! Word Tables are Coming into FrameMaker as Text Boxes

Help! I am converting a Word file into FrameMaker (FM) the same way for the past 10 years---now all of a sudden the Word tables are converting to text boxes, ahh! I open the Word file in FM, apply all my formatting & page layouts from my template, and then I go through and apply styles, format, etc.---this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks where ALL tables convert into text boxes in FM, help! I need to get these docs out ASAP! Thank you so much.

Hi Arnis, it's happened with both FM8 & 10, and Word 2010. It's also happened when I save a PDF as an RTF---always worked in the past w/o any issues at all, but I just saved a 70-page doc from PDF to RTF, and ALL tables came in within text boxes...?
I just saved the Word file as an RTF, brought it into FM, & it worked, thank God! Thank you so much for your help----what do you suggest about the PDF to RTF tables-in-text boxes issue? THANKS!!!

How do I remove text boxes from Pages

I have an awful time with Pages on my lap top. I am used to Appleworks 6.2 on my older desktop (PowerMac G4 / OS 10.4.11). If I specify a US letter page I get that in Appleworks, it is then 8.1/2" x 11", without running into pre-existing formats or other similar distractions. I can immediately type a neat business letter.
Not with Pages. On my MacBookAir, with Pages 4.3 and OS 10.8.4, I can type alright, but when I want to print what I typed, only a small part of what I typed shows up in in Print Preview of my typed page. After a bit of backtracking, I notice a blue-lined rectangle on my typed page containing the portion of my typing that appeared in that Print Preview. It is apparently a self-formed "text box", that was not a part of my blank template page and was not inserted by me while or just before I typed.
I did not find any way to delete the edges of that text box. The "delete" option under the pull down edit menu is blanked out. If I click on the "Text box " symbol in the menu bar it does not let me switch off the text box, but instead gives me another text box inside the first one! I suppose this is to allow user to print only a single keyboard stroke of the entire letter. The "Inspector" seems to have no options to set text boxes.
Pages "Help" Menu has nothing of how to delete a text box, or how to prevent it in the first place from screwing up what you have typed in such manner that it becomes unprintable.
Similarly a small rectangular box formed on both the top and the bottom of each page (which could be a space reserved for a header or footer), but again I do not use these on my business letters, and they appear self-formed by Pages, and I would like to know how to prevent them, or delete them.
In other words I like to get a blank page to start with, which will only set up and type what "I, THE USER" enter on my keyboard.
Can anybody tell me how to this with Pages?
(PS. I can do it with even with Thunderbird !)

1. Open a blank Word Processing template (they are listed in the Template Chooser sidebar), you have opened a Layout template that requires Textboxes for you to type into.
2. To select a Textbox hold down the command key and click on its edge or lassoo it, then hit delete.
3. If you don't want Headers or Footers, uncheck them in the Document Inspector
4. Download the Pages09_UserGUide.pdf from under the Help menu and familiarise yourself with Pages' basics. Also look around your Menus and Inspectors which are laid out logically from left to right from broad to details.
I suggest you click inside your textbox first go command a and copy the contents before you delete it and then paste that into a new Word Processing template.

is it possible to show tracked changes to edited text in a text box... i can't get it to show changes, but it's ok with text outside the text box.
am i missing a setting option?

I just made a check and tracking works for me in a text box. The Help File States:
When change tracking is on, you can see:
Text that has been added, deleted, edited, or replaced in the document body, header, footer, shapes, and text boxes
Tables, charts, and shapes that have been added or deleted inline
Paragraph additions, deletions, or replacements
Text with style changes
Character and paragraph formatting changes
New or deleted hyperlinks, Address Book fields, placeholders, or bookmarks
A new or deleted table of contents
Edits displayed in thumbnail view
Are you sure you've got Tracking On? Comments on?

How do I change the colour of a page in Pages without using a floating shape or text box?

I want to change the colour of a page in Pages without having to stretch out a floating coloured shape or using a text box to write the text in. I have been stretching shapes and using text boxes for years but surely there is an simpler and more elegant way to do this? Plus, I want to be able to type several pages of continuous text and not have to split the text up into multiple text boxes. Any help most welcome.

There are a whole lot more really essential features missing in Pages than this.

Deleting a Hyperlinked Text-box

Hello,
I cannot find a way to delete a text-box (the default one) or remove the hyperlink. The strange think is the whole box even when I delete it's contents it remains an active hyperlink (little blue arrow at the bottom corner insists!)
to a file that I set as hyperlink for a text that lies outside this text-box.
Please help me!

Is it possible you're trying to delete a default text box from a specific template page in the theme which you're using? Such text boxes are different than text boxes you create yourself. There's a small visual difference–a text box which is part of the template, when selected, has slightly gray corner markers. A regular text box you create has white corner markers when selected. This kind can be deleted from the page. The other kind cannot.
You mention you've copied your page for each new entry. Maybe start fresh by clicking the 'Add Page' button, from the choices presented, choose 'Blank'. Not 'Blog, My Albums, About Me' because some of them have the default text boxes that can't be deleted.
As far as the inability to make the hyperlink go away, I have no idea!

Thumbnails appear as a white box with dotted line -WHY?

My library is still intact, however, my thumbnails are appearing as a white box with a gray dotted line. If I click on the box to open them, then they are there. I took my computer into an Apple store 2 days ago, they reset the computer and it was working fine. however, once again, I am having the same problem. How do I reset the computer to fix this problem and why does this keep happening?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options.

10 marks for recognising the Latin (sort of) that is the placeholder text in your template.
You are using a Word Processing template. WP templates have content flowing from page to page. As one page fills up, a new one is created. If some of that text is deleted or displaced the pages retract.
When you combine text, invisibles like word spaces, returns, tabs, page breaks etc with objects that have text wrap set, the mix can behave in an apparent odd fashion.
Start with showing where everything is:
Menu > View > Show Layout/Invisibles
Start with getting rid of any excess returns you may have used to "position" things. Next cut and paste objects like textboxes, shapes, charts and tables "Inline" ie in as part of the text. If necessary also turn off text wrap on objects or minimise it so that doesn't push text completely out of the way.
Insert Section breaks in the Text where you want fixed breaks in the layout these will provide separation between layout on different pages.
Basically you need to clean up your layout or think about doing it another way.
If there is a lot of layout, you will need to learn Pages methods for doing this in a WP template or do it in a Layout template where each page is individual and all objects are floating with no default text area.

Text boxes are not editable?

Why is it that some text boxes are not editable? can't find were to change it? it can be the same tex tbox that is editable in one file copied to another and there is not editable...

What exactly did you do step by step?
Also: which version? which platform?
Is a clipboard enhancer installed in your system? Or some other enhancement to your system? Like Cocktail for Mac OS?
