Text Edit Default Size

How do i change the default size of Text Edit fonts?  I can enlarge the font size but when I open a new documnet the size reverts back to the smalller size.

The TextEdit preferences has a Font section (New Document tab) to specify the default for plain and rich text.

  • Text Edit (print size small)

I try to print a document (Rich) I'm using a Canon MP970 Printer.   (Web pages, pics) print out fine.   My Text Edit fonts always come out small.
I up the percent to 120% (File>Page Set-up)...and to No avail....I've also made the fonts bigger.  (Apple) Command-Plus sign +...though they appear large in Text Edit, they still come out small and if I up the size they run off the right side of the paper.    The margins on the Left seem to be much wider than what I've selected in Text Edit.   Any ideas of what to do?   thanks

Choose "Wrap to Page" rather than "Wrap to Window" in the TextEdit View menu.

  • I can't get my Text edit as a default changed

I am trying to save an attachment to my desktop and unfortunately it always opens it in a textedit format. It seems that text edit is the default setting to open documents. Can anybody help I tried using the advice from previous posts but with no luck.

It is a .pem file that I need to save on my desktop then copy and paste it into another website. I have been able to do it now on my Gateway through the Save As option but when I download the file on my Mac it gives me the option to save to Desktop or to Dropbox. When I click Desktop it saves in Downloads but also opens as a TextEdit file.
Yes I have tried the Get Info, Open With option that I read about in earlier posts relating to this subject. Thank you for your assistance.

  • Creating small, text-editable PDFs?

I have many documents from school that I'd like to scan, convert to PDFs and then compile together into one PDF file. The problem is that whenever I scan a document, I can't compress it down enough without sacrificing quality, so I can't have a small PDF file. I have a few eBooks, and, looking at their properties, somehow the creators of those eBooks were able to compress their PDFs down enough without sacrificing any quality to the documents whatsoever. Here's an example:
one eBook that I have is 696 pages, the filesize is 4,159,863 bytes, and it looks like it was simply scanned and put together, because the quality of the eBook matches the book that it came from (which I happen to own). True, the images in the eBook are black and white (some of the images in the book are in colour), but there is no noticeable depreciation in their quality. Whoever created it was using the application PScript5.dll version 5.2, the PDF producer Acrobat Distiller 6.0.1 (Windows), the PDF version is 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x), and was NOT optimized for fast web view. How did the author get the page size so small (kb wise) yet retain quality? If one were to do the math: 4,159,863 bytes divided by 696 pages equals 5976.81, then divided by 1000 equals 5.97681. Almost 6 kb per page? How is that possible?
The smallest I could compress scanned images was about 20 kb, and the quality was terrible. In fact, the only way I could shrink them to that size was to scan them in Black and white (1 bit), and then distill them as much as I dared. The vast majority of documents that I'm scanning are black and white text with very little in the way of graphics.
Here are the programs that I have at my disposal:
Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 and HP Director (for scanning with my HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer, which has OCR technology)
    Microsoft Word 2000 (9.0.2720)
Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 (10/26/01) (yes, it has paper capture)
    Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5.2001101100
It is driving me absolutely crazy that I cannot figure this out. Even creating my own job option in Distiller and adjusting the settings didn't help.
It should be possible, with the programs that I have, to get the results I want. For those of you who believe I should upgrade to something beyond Adobe Acrobat 5, here's another example for you:
There used to be a link on www.iartonline.ca (which no longer exists) to a PDF that is 13 pages long, created with the application Microsoft Word 8.0, the PDF producer is Acrobat Distiller 4.0 for Windows, the PDF version is 1.2 (Acrobat 3.x) and has a file size of 79,719 bytes. In contrast, I scanned two school documents (using OCR) into Microsoft Word, corrected any errors, and converted it to an Adobe PDF from there. The resulting size (for TWO PAGES) was 25 kb.
So, in conclusion, it HAS to be possible for me to scan my documents, retain their quality while compressing their size, and compiling them into single file PDFs.
I apologize for the lengthy explanation (this is why I couldn't ask the question on WikiAnswers), but hopefully this will save others interested in answering from asking irrelevant (to me) questions.
    Thank you for your time.

Well, back to square one. IrfanView seems like a good program, but I'm running into the same issues I had before (sacrificing quality for a more compact file size). Using IrfanView to scan the sheet music opens up HP Director (since I have an HP printer it makes sense that this would be the default program). With HP Director, my output type options are as follows:
    1. Millions of colors
    2. 256 colors (8-bit)
    3. 256 colors (web palette)
    4. 256 colors (system palette)
    5. 256 gray shades
    6. Black & White (1-bit)
Choices 1 and 6 are out automatically. Since the output dimensions (area to be scanned) is 7.86 x 10.37 inches, at 200 DPI, the image size is as follows (using the remaining choices from above):
    2. 3.19 MB
    3. 3.19 MB
    4. 3.19 MB
    5. 3.19 MB
The scale is 100%. After selecting choice 2 (256 colors - 8-bit) and scanning to IrfanView, the Image Information is as follows:
    1571x2075x8BPP, 3.11 MB
So I'll save this as a TIF file (using ZIP compression) and the resulting file size will be 532 KB. Opening this file with AA5 and saving it as a PDF will result in a file size of 512 KB. The quality is definitely there, but the file size is way too big.
If I go through all that again and use JPEG compression instead of ZIP, the resulting file size is 1,836 KB. After opening the file with AA5 and saving it as a PDF: 354 KB. Once again, the quality is there, but the file size is too big. It appears that JPEG compression is the better choice in this particular case.
So what can I change? Going back into HP Director, I adjust the scale (size) to 50%. Output dimensions: 3.93x5.19; DPI: 200; output type: 256 colors (8-bit).
In Irfanview: 788x1035x8BPP, 797.5 KB; quality is a little bit less. Saving to TIF with JPEG compression: 592 KB. Opening with AA5 and saving to PDF: 125 KB.
Interesting side note: I decided to perform a Paper capture on this 125 KB PDF file. In the Paper capture Preferences, I chose 'Searchable image (compact)' as the PDF output style, and chose 'None' for Downsample images. Result? 267 KB.
Trying that again, this time with the PDF output style of 'Searchable image (exact)' produces the same file size (267 KB).
Mind you, when Paper capture was performed on the PDF, it straightened the image, which may have contributed to the larger file size. I noticed that IrfanView did something similar: if I rotated the image slightly (in this case, 1.10), IrfanView changed the image's BPP from 8 to 24 (but I changed it back to 8 BPP by going to Image>Convert to Grayscale).
Tried scanning it at 150 DPI instead of 200; quality was still there. TIF file size: 911 KB, PDF file size: 201 KB.
100 DPI. TIF: 468 KB, PDF: 109 KB. Starting to get a little blurry, but that could have been due to making the rotation change and then converting back to grayscale.
Tried scanning at 75 DPI, 256 gray shades and half the scale (size). Quality was HORRIBLE.
IrfanView has no "Print to file" option, so using Acrobat Distiller is out.
I've noticed that, if you rotate an image in IrfanView, sharpen the image, then convert it back to grayscale and save it as a TIF file, it will be blurry when it's opened in AA5.
HP Director doesn't always straighten the scanned image, even though there's an option to do so (and I always check the box for that option). I've re-scanned the sheet many, many times, but it's only at random that HP Director automatically straightens the scanned image.
I did a scan with 75 DPI, 256 gray shades, 100% scale. It looks great in IrfanView (602x775x8 BPP, 458.17 KB), but when I save it as a TIF (JPEG compression) and open it with AA5, the quality had considerably diminished. Even redoing the scan and saving it as a TIF with ZIP compression, it's still the same.
I tried Packbits compression, same thing; LZW, ditto.
So I upped the DPI to 150 and tried again, this time using JPEG compression. TIF: 1,077 KB, converted to PDF it was 231 KB. The quality was there, but the file is TOO BIG.
All in all, I've tried a few different approaches and it seems to me that I can have one or the other: quality or compact file size, not both. But I refuse to believe that. It MUST be possible.
I have an eBook that is 736 pages long and is 6.75 MB (7,077,900 bytes). The PDF producer was Adobe PDF Library 5.0 and the application used was Adobe InDesign 2.0.2. The quality of the eBook almost exactly matches the actual, physical book (I know this because I've borrowed the book from the library).
Did Adobe PDF Library 5.0 and/or Adobe InDesign 2.0.2 create such small PDFs from scans that were responsible for such a small eBook, or was it some other program? And, if it was some other program, then what's the name of it? Is it freeware?
You can download the eBook in question for free here: http://www.deliberatedumbingdown.com/MomsPDFs/DDDoA.sml.pdf
Bill, in HP Director, after clicking on "Scan document", the user is presented with 4 choices:
    - Text & Graphics as image
    - Text as image
    - Editable text
    - Editable text with graphics
The settings for these 4 choices can be modified. For the first two choices, resolution can range anywhere from 75-19,200 PPI, and the output types can be Millions of colors (24-bit), 256 gray shades (8-bit grayscale) or Black and White (1-bit).
The settings for the latter two give less options: resolution can be either 300 or 400 PPI, and the output type does not include the Black and White (1-bit) option. (This bit about HP Director is mostly for your information to give you a better idea of the program's capabilities.)
It IS possible to scan a document with HP Director, do OCR on it and save it as a PDF. The file, however, is very large.
I now understand that a document can have OCR performed on it OR have AA5 do a paper capture, but not both.
I really appreciate the time you've taken to address my questions, Bill. As I've stated before, this will also serve as a guide to others in the future should they have similar problems/questions.

  • How to set default size for .chm window?

I know there is an answer at grainge.org, but it seems to be
referring only to a .chm using skins, which I am not.
Anybody know how to make the default size of the .chm larger?
    thanks, Leisa

    Lacona,
The default window size is set in your windows properties
dialog in RoboHelp. It can also be set manually in the .hhp file
before you compile. If you open the .hhp file in a text editor,
such as Notepad, you will see a [WINDOWS] section and for each
window defined there will be a series of numbers. One of these is a
vector [in square brackets] that defines the original position.
    These are absolute screen pixels.
In older versions of RoboHelp, one of which I use, there was
a limit to the size of the window RH would allow but when I changed
the .hhp, RoboHelp didn't try to overwrite it unless I reopened the
Windows properties dialog. I'm not sure how the latest versions
handle this but you might try editing the .hhp with Notepad and
    then compiling the .chm.

  • How can I make Edit/Default Customization form with Java ?

In previous portal relise developers have simple way to rendering Edit/Default Customization form:
    <% PortletRendererUtil.renderCustomizeFormHeader(portletRequest, out, null, "services_action", null, null); %>
    <TABLE BORDER="0" CELLPADDING="0" CELLSPACING="2">

    </TR>
    </TABLE>
    <% PortletRendererUtil.renderCustomizeFormFooter(portletRequest, out); %>
In current portal version I can not find these methods, these methods not exists in JavaDoc and in jar's. And all old code do not works!!! Why?
I must hide portlet borders and use <renderContainer>false</renderContainer> in provider.xml. Then portal do not render Edit/Default Customization form in Edit/Default mode. In previous relise I can make this form with Java code.
My question: how I can get Edit/Default Customization form in Edit/Default mode with Java code?
    Thanks in advance

Hi George, the trick is to figure out which browser is your default now, and remove that designation using the Android settings for Apps. It might be Chrome or it might be something Samsung provides.

    Does it work?

  • How can I show only text edits and not text formatting when using print comments summary?

    Acrobat 9.3.0 for Mac.
Here is the scenario: I used the Compare command to see the changes between 2 PDFs. The resulting file some edits are inserts and some are deletions. I want to print a comments summary only showing the text edits. In the Compare Option pane, I select Text and deselect Images, Annotations, Formatting, Headers/Footers, and Backgrounds. Now on the screen I see inserts are highlighted in blue and deletions are marked with sort of a caret and vertical bar symbol. So all looks good at this point. However, when I show the Comments List, I see addtional comments that indicate "Replace - The following text attributes were changed: fill color." Those comments do not appear in the page view unless I check the Formatting check box to show them. With Formatting unchecked, I print a comments summary and all of the "Replace - Fill Color" comments" appear on the resulting comments summary.
I only want to show text edits, not text formatting changes. So questions are:
    1. Why, when the Formatting checkbox is unchecked, do the text formatting comments still appear in the comments list when they do not appear on the page display.
    2. How can I print only the text content edits and not show the text formatting changes when using Print Comments Summary.

    Hi,
You can set ExecuteWithParams as default activity in the task flow then method activity to return total no of rows passing to Router activity if your method has value 0 then call Create insert operation else do directly to page.
Following idea could be your task flow
Execute With param (default) > SetCurrentRowWithKey > GetTotalNoOfRows (VOImpl Method)
    |
    v
    Router
    1. If pageFlowScope outcome is 0 then call CreateInsert > MyPage
    2. if pageFlowScope outcome > 0 then MyPage

  • Why does Read from Text file default to array of 9 elements

I am writing to a text file starting with a type def. cluster (control) of say 15 dbl numeric elements, that works fine I open the tab-delimited text file and all of the elements appear in the file.  However when I read from the same text file back to the same type def. cluster (indicator), the read from text file defaults to 9 elements?? Is there a way to control how many elements are read from the file.  This all works great when I initially use a cluster of 9 elements and read back to a cluster of 9 elements.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    From the LabVIEW Help: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/glang/array_to_cluster/
Converts a 1D array to a cluster of elements of the same type as the array elements. Right-click the function and select Cluster Size from the shortcut menu to set the number of elements in the cluster.
The default is nine. The maximum cluster size for this function is 256.
Aside: so, how many times has this question been asked over the years?

  • How do I set the default size of a new folder?

I have finder sized the way I want for existing folders and if I do Finder > New Finder Window. These preferrences, however, do not seem to apply to new folders. Everytime I create a new folder on my desktop, and open that folder for the first time, the window size is really small and the sidebar is narrow. This is incredibally annoying. How do I set the default size for all new folders? Is there a plist file I can edit to fix this? Or an AppleScript I can run automatically in the background that fixes this? I am running Mavericks 10.9.1.

If you use the Finder's New Finder Window command (command N) to create a new window, resize it, place it where you want, and set it for icon view or however you want it. Then close it. Closing it is what sets these as the default. That should become the default for every new Finder window you create using the new window command. But if you have lots of windows open at once and then close them, the last window you close will set a new default.
There are lots of utilities that control Windows - their size and placement. I use one called Moom but there are many more.

  • Text Edit application for Mac Mini 10.4.11

I am not sure if everyone is familiar with my "Mac Mini Saga", ( BDAqua certainly is! - by the way, congratulations for passing the 11000 mark! ).
Now that the Mini is finally updated to 10.4.11,(without the original install discs), so that the elderly lady owner can use Skype, she would also like "my" Text Edit app. which is not listed in her apps. - i was told it should be there, but it is not!
Looking at the details of this app on my iMac (version 1.5, 22.1 MB on disc), under File, i have the option: "Burn Text Edit to Disc". So, is it possible to include (transfer) this app. to her Mini after i copy it to a disc?

    Not exactly similar, this text editor and writing tool can do several things;
and it (may still) runs free. I have a version of it.
    • Text Wrangler: powerful general purpose text editor...
    http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/
The original Text Edit, part of the System's original apps package, is more
integrated with the original system installation; and should not be missing.
However, you can choose to have another similar app as default to open
or work with similar types of files.
And for more office-like apps, there's a 'free running' donation-ware suite:
    • Neo Office:
    http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
Text Edit version 1.4 from about 2005 (or so) should be what OS X 10.4.11
would have included in the installer and then on the computer in question.
The app is about 8.5MB, and may require the installer to place it correctly.
You may look into the OS X 10.4.x Install DVD for Tiger and use Pacifist
utility to look for and see if you can find the package in there, and extract
it via Pacifist; then install Text Edit from the desktop via this utility. It will
work in a demo mode, so you don't have to buy it, to try it out. It works.
    • CharlesSoft - Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
There is no reason why the original TextEdit would not be in Tiger 10.4.
Unless some files were corrupted at a point during installation process.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Continuous Text Edits in Adobe Acrobat X Pro

I just upgraded to Adobe Acrobat X Pro from version 9 and I'm running into an issue relating to commenting an editing a PDF. In version 9, you could simply select the "Text Edits" button and make continuous edits in a PDF (document created in InDesign) and then send those back. Now with version X, I can't seem to find a way to make continuous edits without having to select the tool over and over again for each individual edit. The "Replace (Ins)" icon works, but again, it takes twice as long. You have to now select the text and then select the "Replace (Ins)" icon and then type your change and then start all over again. Is there a way to enable text editing without having to go back and select the icon over and over again which reduces efficiency considerably?
Thanks so much for your help!

Or, if I knew how to change defaults for add text box, that would wok just as well. Thanks
    for any help!

what is meant by other objects? is the part of same smartform that is not being displayed completely? Please clarify.
also I mentioned 1000px as just one value so that to maximize the page size. you can use various sizes and need to do trial and error so that PDF will be displayed in optimized size and it will be then same in all systems.

  • Adding a photo from iPhoto to a document in text edit

I wrote a letter in text edit and i would like to add a picture from my iphoto library. i have tried dragging the photo but when i do all i get is the photo info, name, date and size, no picture. just the discription of the picture.
can anyone help me with this?
    thanks

Yep, that was the problem. since i have you. what format should i have it set at? do i keep it at .txt and convert to rich when needed?
That really depends on what your usage is.
i cannot seem to make the picture smaller. i have cropped it in iphoto but when i then put it in my letter it is back to the large size.
I'm not sure but it's quite possible that TE doesn't support resizing. Try using  Word Processor like Pages.

  • What happened to the "Text Edits Tool" in Acrobat X?

I know the answer is "it went away" but, seriously, please bring it back. In Acrobat 9, when you activated the "Text Edits Tool," it would automatically switch between insert, delete, and replace text in a context-sensitive way. You just had an active tool cursor - if you highlighted text and started typing, it would "replace" the text. If you clicked in one spot and started typing, it would "insert" text. If you highlighted text and clicked the Delete key, it would "delete" text. All this with one tool, that stayed active the entire time you were using it.
Now, in Acrobat X, you have 3 different tools. You have to click to select the tool - mark the change. Click to select the next tool and mark that change. And on and on. And while you can right-click on any single tool and select "Keep tool selected" - there's no way to make that the default behavior. And that doesn't help when switching back and forth between activities.
I know that the Selection Tool can now almost serve as the old "Text Edits Tool" - this works quickly with delete, but requires the tilde shortcut for insert or replace. Basically one extra step for each edit than there was with the Text Edits Tool.
One might think that that little extra click isn't a big deal - but when you are marking up a PDF all day, every day, it adds up.

I assume you're talking about commenting and markup rather than editing the text of the document itself.
The keyboard shortcuts are  designed to do exactly what you want. With the multi-select tool active (I beam + black arrow on the toolbar):
Select some text and press the Insert key - a new Replace text annotation is created and the note panel opened for typing. Press Esc to close the note
Click to place the cursor within some text and press the Insert key - a new Insert text annotation is created and the note panel opened.
Select some text and press the Delete key - a strikeout annotation is created (no note this time but you can add one by double-clicking)
The idea of selecting something and 'just typing' to activate a markup event could not be retained as it interfered with the single-key accelerator mode.
