Text Edit Tool icon missing in Acrobat Standard X

Hi,
In Acrobat 8 Standard, when I click "Text Edit Tool" icon, I can start insert, delete or replce text comments without re-click any  "insert", "delete" or "replace" icon in the Text Edit Tool until I press"Esc" key.
I just install Acrobat Standard X these days, It moved the commenting annotation to the right panel with those fancy icons.  Looks great!  However, I have to click on the "Insert", "delete" or "replace" icon on every action.  I am wondering if Acrobat remove the great feature or I am missing something?
p.s.  Just found ouy it is called "Text Correction Markup" in Acrobat Reader XI.  I can't image paid Acroabat Standard X has less feature than Acrobat Reader XI.  Hopefully, Adobe can have a Update to add the "accidentally removed" feature back to Standard X.
Thanks

Is there no response from Adobe? It's a serious issue that this useful tool was removed (or hidden?) in Adobe X.
I use Acrobat for collaboration for much of my work, and it's a significant burden to have to click on each tool individually.

  • What happened to the "Text Edits Tool" in Acrobat X?

I know the answer is "it went away" but, seriously, please bring it back. In Acrobat 9, when you activated the "Text Edits Tool," it would automatically switch between insert, delete, and replace text in a context-sensitive way. You just had an active tool cursor - if you highlighted text and started typing, it would "replace" the text. If you clicked in one spot and started typing, it would "insert" text. If you highlighted text and clicked the Delete key, it would "delete" text. All this with one tool, that stayed active the entire time you were using it.
Now, in Acrobat X, you have 3 different tools. You have to click to select the tool - mark the change. Click to select the next tool and mark that change. And on and on. And while you can right-click on any single tool and select "Keep tool selected" - there's no way to make that the default behavior. And that doesn't help when switching back and forth between activities.
I know that the Selection Tool can now almost serve as the old "Text Edits Tool" - this works quickly with delete, but requires the tilde shortcut for insert or replace. Basically one extra step for each edit than there was with the Text Edits Tool.
One might think that that little extra click isn't a big deal - but when you are marking up a PDF all day, every day, it adds up.

I assume you're talking about commenting and markup rather than editing the text of the document itself.
The keyboard shortcuts are  designed to do exactly what you want. With the multi-select tool active (I beam + black arrow on the toolbar):
Select some text and press the Insert key - a new Replace text annotation is created and the note panel opened for typing. Press Esc to close the note
Click to place the cursor within some text and press the Insert key - a new Insert text annotation is created and the note panel opened.
Select some text and press the Delete key - a strikeout annotation is created (no note this time but you can add one by double-clicking)
The idea of selecting something and 'just typing' to activate a markup event could not be retained as it interfered with the single-key accelerator mode.

  • Why do I get a full screen window of the "Text Edits" tool...?

I got Acrobat 8 and when I mark some text with the Text Edits tool and afterwards types som replacements, I just get one big pop-up box filling the whole screen instead of the normal sized in the left margin as usual. And I am not able to see what I'am typing since this kinda lies outside the screen picture. Is this a matter of settings - or a bug, or anyone else tried the same?
Memebers of my work group use the same version with the same updates without problems.

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select   View ▹ Show Log List   from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Form - Can not use the Text Edit Tool in Adobe 9

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could please assist me, I have created a form but the text editing tool is coming grayed out, how am I able to get this function back?
I simply need to remove one word and am unable to do so.  It tells me that some functionality is restricted for extended features and to save a copy.  but when i save a copy I am still unable to use the touch up tool.
My Thanks in advance for your assistance.

My guess is that you did use LiveCycle Designer and are not aware of that. Designer is accessed from Acrobat in the forms menu and may have come up even if you were not aware of it. If that is indeed the case, you can only edit the text in Designer.
If it is an AcroForm, then it may be that you have activated Reader Rights or such. To remove Reader Rights, there is a specific procedure to use and unfortunately I do not remember it. If you have Reader Rights activated, indicate that and someone should be by that remembers how to remove the feature so you can edit the document. The removal is not as simple as one would think, but is rather straight forward. It involves saving or such -- I just don't remember and it is not something I am finding in the help menu.

  • How to add selection tool? (NOT selection-and-text-edit tool)

I need to add the selection tool to my Acrobat XI interface.
The icon for this tool is an arrow.
I do NOT want the tool whose icon is an arrow along with a text-edit cursor.  I already have that, and it doesn't serve all my selection needs.  For example, I can't use it to "window" to select several objects at once.
How can I add this tool to my toolbars / to my interface?

The problem with this is that the tool doesn't appear in the tools pane.  I can't find the tool anywhere, but I know that it exists, because at some point I did somehow manage to see it either in the tools pane or in the Quick Tools area.  It does exist in Acrobat XI, right?  If so, please tell me how to find it.

  • Advanced editing tool not working in Acrobat Pro 9.0

I created a fillable form in Live Cycle ES 8.2 and the recipient wants to add a hyperlink to a website in one of the text field areas of the form but it won't work.
I tried to do it for him in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 but when I go to the Advanced Editing tool it is greyed out. Can anyone tell me how to get the advanced editing tool to work or why it may be disabled?

Thank you but if I put it back into LiveCycle everything that has been inputted by the recipient is lost. Do you know if there is a setting in LiveCycle that allows hyperlinks to be entered in to the text area by the recipient of the form?

  • Formatted Text Edit - Formatting icons not visible

    Hi,
I  am using Formatted Text Edit in a view.
The problem is that the formatting icons  (bold, italics etc.) are not rendered on the browser for a user with Arabic locale.Instead of the icons, I see a cross.
This happens in IE, Mozilla as well as in Chrome.
This is working fine with Spanish and French users.
Any pointers to the solution shall be highly appreciated.
    TIA.

  • Toolbar not complete. Missing back/forward arrows, edit, tools icons, etc and view is gone

The toolbar is missing imp components: File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help
The back and forward arrows are also missing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    * In Firefox 3.6 versions on Windows and Firefox 4 on Windows and Linux it's possible to hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu of a toolbar.
    * Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

  • Lost format after using text editing tool

Using Acrobat 9 Pro and the text editor on a scanned document. The edit works fine but when I save the altered file I lose the page format. The text has unwanted spaces and changes in the indentation. What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing is wrong, other than your assumption that Acrobat is an editor. The editing it can do is very limited and is not recommended if it can be avoided. You might find it easier to save the OCR'd document to a DOC file and work on that, though you will probably have to fix the formatting and such.

  • File edit view help missing in acrobat XI

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1. Most of the time when I open a PDF file everything is fine. However, I have lately had several PDF's open and when I open another, the File, Edit, View, Help tabs are missing as is all the info above where these tabs should be including the minimize, restore down, close icons. F9, F8 and Ctrl+Shift+M do not help. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Warren

Sounds like an issue with your graphics driver and Acro running out of resources for hardware accelerated page rendering. turn it off in the prefs and/or update your graphics driver.

  • Pen Tool Icons Missing in CC 2014 Windows 7

I have just noticed that I'm not seeing the Join/Add to Existing Path icon is missing in CC 2014.  The little chain link icon second left in the illustration below.  As far as I can tell, all the other icons are OK.  I tried my Pre-2014 installation and that has the link icon.  The link still works — you can join to the end of an old path, but it is frankly a PITA wondering if you are in the right place, or about to start a new path.
    Just me, or known issue?

    Hi Trevor,
I do see the icon Join/Add to Existing Path on a windows 7 x64 machine with photoshop cc 2014.2.2

  • Help! Text to Voice icon missing

I just downloaded the Text to Voice Extension, and donated $5.00. I can see that it downloaded successfully, it is in my Add-ons Manager, but there is no little speaker icon to be found anywhere on my screen. What should I do? I tried to go to the programmer's homepage but I got this: "Directory has no index file. Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited."

That worked, thank you. I didn't know what the tab strip was, so I looked that up too. When I control-clicked, I could see that Add-on Bar didn't have a check mark, so I clicked it and now I have the speaker icon showing on the bottom right. Thanks.

  • HP Printer Diagnostic Tools icon missing

The icon for the HP Printer Diagnostic Tools has disappeared in Windows 7 64-bit. Does anyone have it that they could send it to me or know where it is located on my computer?

    Hey Terry,
Thanks for the update.  This icon comes installed with the printer software.  One could try doing a full uninstall, cleaning out the printer software completely and reinstall with the latest drivers from the HP website.  However, this icon usually opens either to the downloads page for these tools and in other cases may already have them downloaded for you, but the online website can provide these same tools.
    Best of luck,
    Jason

  • Writing a Word / Text like editing tool.

Does anyone know if it is possible to write a word-like text editing tool as an applet loaded into an ASP.NET page? As part of the functionality there would be a screen where the user would load in patient info from an existing database and then the user would fill in the details and save this as a letter preferably in XML format. The editor tool needs to have all the text formatting functions that word has and also a spellchecking tool and autotext. Is this possible?
Also is it possible to link with spell checker in MS Office and MS Word? OLE?

Also is it possible to link with spell checker in MS Office and MS Word? OLE?Sounds like you are better off using active X or the .net version (usercontrols??).
Or OpenOffice, I think this has it's automation is done in Java but then you need to sign
the applet to access local resources.
