TEXT ENGINE ERROR

When I opened a PS file with a text layer, that I wanted to change, an error message popped up saying the "text engine could not be initalised". STUCK!!!  I am not able to use the text tool in ANY of my PS files anymore! I got a iMac and CS6, did not upload any new fonts lately BUT updated to Yosemite and updated to onone Photo Suite 9. No crashes or any other catastrophies with my Mac lately. Living in AUSTRIA and using my system in german, see screenshot...

Same problem with text module error
Any solution, Adobe guys?

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialised".

This problem has just started, only with CC 2014. It doesn't happen with CC or CS6.
When I open a particular layered file, then Duplicate it, then close the original Master file I get the "text engine" warning box when I try to enter text in the copy file.
If I enter text in the original Master file - no problem.
If the Master file is still open and I try to enter text in the copy file  - no problem.
I've validated all my fonts in Font Book, deleting all the duplicates and one corrupt font. No change to problem.
I've gone to User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC2014/ and trashed the CT Font Cache folder. No change to problem.
    I've run PS Update.
    Running OS 10.9.3.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue on my work computer. I found this info in Adobe's help section.
    Issue
When you use the Type Tool, you receive the following error:
"Could not complete your request because something prevented the text ending from being initialized."
    To the top
    Solution
Close Photoshop, clear the font cache, and restart.
    Exit Photoshop.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/CT Font Cache folder.
Move these two files to the Recycle Bin:
    AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst
    AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst
    Empty the Recycle Bin.
    Restart Photoshop.

  • Error: prevented the text engine from being initialized

I am getting the following error when attempting to use the text tool with my photoshop (12.0) - windows 7.
"could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized"
I've attempted to follow some posts from others to fix without success.
There are two fonts in my fonts folder that are shortcuts - and the fonts don't exist in the folder. Also, I can't delete the shortcut font from the fonts folder.
(I'm posting this now... and might have a solution. Just in case, I want this conversation started.)
    TIA,

Usually that means that you have a corrupt font or a corrupt OS font cache.
See this document for more troubleshooting steps: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html
Also, make sure you have all the Photoshop updates installed.

  • Photoshop CS2 Text Tool Error Message

This is really weird... I think this is the first time I ever heard of this kind of problem. I just installed Photoshop CS2 and everything seems to work fine instead of the text tool. When I try to use it there is an error message that pops up saying: "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being intialized."
Whats even more weird is that it allows me to drag out a very small text box (so small no text can be fit in it). After that, I can resize the box, and I try to type in it but the cursor doesn't change and I can't type in the text box. And sometimes another error message may appear saying a program error occured.
I even tried re-installing the software, and still no success.
I am using Windows Vista Home Edition Premium, anyone can help me I will be greatly appreactive!

Try resetting your text tool from the drop-down menu in the character palette. If that doesn't help reset your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • Something Preventing Text Engine from being initialized

Just starting with Photoshop CS6 and trying to enter text. Getting the following error message:
"Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."
Saw this error listed in 2008 on CS3. Does it look like the same thing? Any ideas?

Hi. Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.

  • Alert for adapter engine error

    Hello experts
We have configured the alerts for the adapter engine errors .We have configured the variable &SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_ERRTXT& element which is having the CHAR70 type for getting the adapter engine error text in the alert inbox.so for any adapter engine error greater than 70  chracters ,it is getting truncated to 70 chracters only.but we want to have the whole adapter error log text.
Can anyone please throw some light on this.
    Thanks

    Moha,
It seems that it cannot support more than that.

  • Can't Use Text in PSCS3: Text Engine Won't Initialize

    Hi!
I just upgraded to Photoshop CS3 and have a baffling problem.
I am trying to create a new document with text, but whenever I grab the text tool and try to draw out where to put it I get this error message:
"Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."
Any ideas what might cause this and how to fix it?

    Nathan...
    Deleting
AdobeFnt*.lst files is perfectly safe. All it does is removes catalogs of the font names used by applications. The fonts themselves aren't touched.
Just do a system-wide search for
adobefnt. There may be a number after
    AdobeFnt and before the
.lst, or there may not be a number. You may safely delete all of them. They will rebuild themselves as needed.
Just make sure you don't delete files with a file suffix of
    .db

  • CS5.5 Text Tool Error

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum, Adobe, and such so I hope this is the right area in which to ask for help.
I JUST installed CS5.5 this evening. So far, everything is working correctly but the text tool. Error message saying:
'could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized'.
I did search around and found that this message has been given out before in other versions, as well as this one- well CS5. I've already tried reseting the character and that didn't work. I haven't downloaded in updates or plug-ins, so I don't know what else to do.
    Can someone help me please?
    Thaaaaanks! [=
         -Jade

Windows Hpdates do NOT bring in the best video drivers, generally speaking.  Windows Update downloads drivers that have been through Microsoft's Windows Hardware Qualification Laboratory process, and these are usually tremendously out of date.  You're trying to use a state-of-the-art application with possibly out-of-date driver software.
To ensure you have the best display driver for the brand new Photoshop, you need to visit the web site of the maker of your video card or laptop maker, and explicitly check for the latest display driver.
Before doing that, however, here's something to try:
In Photoshop, go in to Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing, and close and restart Photoshop.  Does this help?  If so, then you really do need an updated display driver.  If no such driver is available, this setting change may help you work around the problem at least.
Fonts can be manipulated in Vista by opening the Control Panel - Fonts dialog.  Dragging a font out of that folder uninstalls it, and dragging one in installs it.
The trouble is, if you don't know which fonts were on your system to start with it's difficult to determine which ones have been added.  I don't have a list of stock fonts for Vista on hand myself.  You might have to see if you can find such a list on the Internet.

  • Photoshop CS3 Text engine Not functioning

    Hi all,
wonder if any of u guys here have this error ...
whenever i tried to type text using the type tool .. it always got hang ... in turn i have to close the application ... slightly earlier ard december, there's this error msg stating something like " something is preventing your text engine from functioning." now it get slightly better but still hang when u click commit[a green tick at the top] .. ani help ??
    Thanks in advance ...

I am experiencing this as well - plus not all of my fonts being enumerated unless they are copied (yes, I have to duplicate all my fonts) in the /program files/common files/adobe/fonts folder.
This is seriously annoying - I don't believe the fonts are corrupted because they work in other applications including Illustrator CS3 (however it doesn't recognize all the fonts either - but at least it doesn't hang)
This is a very serious problem.
