Text file size 3kb, but alias is 2.4 mb. What's happening?

I have a text file that is very small (3kb) but the alias I create is 2.4 mb. I have 60 GB free on a 250GB HD.

that’s not unusual for aliases created through Finder. If you’re concerned about the amount of space that the Finder alias uses, one alternative would be to create a symbolic link alias instead via the command line in a Terminal window. For example, to create a symbolic link alias on your Desktop for a text file in the Documents folder, you could run the following command in Terminal:
ln -s ~/Documents/sample.txt ~/Desktop/"sample.txt alias"
The symbolic link alias only uses enough space to hold the name of the file being pointed to.

The optimizer can reduce space, but some things can't get smaller. Text for example. Play with the settings, examine the results of Audit Space Usage.
Or give up. Even 5 MB is too large for a bulk mailing, by far. Instead put it on your web site and mail a link - done!

I've read some of the post here that I thought might help but they refer to titles (Music) and triangles in the "Devices" window which are nowhere to be seen when I open the "Devices" window.
I have iTunes 11.0.3 and Mac OS 10.6.8. Does this make a difference?

I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.

I believe apple no longer accepts debit cards in some countries. Try a credit card instead. Go to settings/iTunes and App Store tap on the ID then then tap on view apple ID and log in then tap on account info and have a look at the billing options available to you

Compressing photo size in iphoto - want file size small but pic big? how?

I am building a website and I want photos on it, I am building it in iWeb.
in iPhoto is there any way of making my photos a smaller file size?
I have cropped them a bit, but some are still about 400kb.
I want my site to load quickly.
I want a gallery page with thumbnails to click on to enlarge them, but on my home page I want 1 big picture. What is compression and can i do it in iPhoto? Can I still have a picture the same size (to look at) but the file size is smaller. I have heard photos should be about 30-70kb and mine are 400kb jpegs!?
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.8) using iphoto and iweb, not hosting on .mac

I believe that iWeb optimises the pics when you publish the site, but you could confirm that on the iWeb forum.
If you want to reduce the size of pics using iPhoto, you do that on export: Select the pics you want and go File -> Export. Use the dialogue to specify the size of the pics you require and export them to a folder on the desktop.

Provisioning Service - Whitelist Extraction Text File Size Limit

I just needed a confirmation in this regard as to what the acceptable size of the text file is when trying to run a whitelisted extraction using provisioning service? The Whitelist Text Tagging is currently failing at 10 MB+. Would this be the limit? Somehow could not find documented details, although it feels like having read it somewhere before.

@Barbara – What purpose is that PDF for? Print? Web?
If web purpose, you could convert CMYK images to sRGB. That would reduce the file size as well.
A final resort to bring down file size is:
1. Print to PostScript
2. Distill to PDF
That would bring file size down even more. About 20%, depending on the images and other contents you are using, compared with the Acrobat Pro method. If you like you could send me a personal message, so we could exchange mail addresses. I could test for you. Just provide the highres PDF without any downsampling and transparency intact. Best provide a PDF/X-4.
I will place the PDF in InDesign, print to PostScript, distill to PDF.

.tiff file mystery: file size huge, but document size small

Sorry for not finding a better way to word this, but this is the situation:
We're working on a project, and received .tiff files from the photographer. The files were around 33MB each, and 4600px x 6500px.
We've just opened the files today, and the files are still 33MB each, but the dimensions are now 222px x 295px.
I've never seen anything like this before. I've tried looking online, but I'm not even that sure what to look for. We're waiting to have the original files sent over again from the photographer, but until that time, I wanted to know if anyone has ever encountered this problem.
It seems like the fullsize information is still in the file, given the fact that the .tiff files are still the same size, it's just that even when you get info on the file, the doc size is tiny.
I'm working on an Intel based Mac, using MAC OSX, and running CS3. I've tried opening these files on a PC, tried opening them with previous versions of Photoshop, and tried opening them with other programs. It seems to be a problem not with the programs, but with the files themselves.
The files came with corresponding .xmp files, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know if this has anything to do with the issue.
Sorry if I haven't worded this well, but I'd appreciate any advice if this sounds familiar at all. I've never come across this issue before.

You will need a special plug-in most likely. The files are probably fine--you are getting a preview or thumbnail.
Look Adobe DNG plugin or Phase One to process the files.

How to save XML from a CLOB to a text file (size over 32767 chars)

I am trying to export a table into an XML file. Using various examples, I have learned that is really easy to handle objects smaller that 32767 bytes (characters).
The problem is working with big chunks. My XML CLOB is just over 10 MB in size. I can easilly break it into smaller pieces but then I risk to write chr(10) in the middle of a XML Tag (which happened). I have an idea of finding a way around the problem but there are two issues:
1. DBMS_LOB.instr function returns 0 if offset grows above appx 1100.
2. I tried this in oreder to avid the limitation from item 1.:

This way I generate perfect XML structure, and it takes about an hour of cpu time to create 2.3 MB file. I have tried to run ir for a big one, and it took just over 7 hours to get to 10.2 MB when I had shut it down.
Does anybody has any suggestions?

Did you try to use the keyboard instead (Cmd+V and Cmd+X and Cmd+C)?

If sync my Iphone with an itunes library without all of my burned songs but with all of my purchases what will happen?

My old computer along with my only decent Itunes was lost with a bad hard drive. If i Sync my Iphone with a library only containing purchased songs will the songs burned from CD's or from other means transfer as well and can anyone recomend any Free Apple device transfer to computer? ( NOT PODSHARE and no Free Trials i have over 500 songs at least that need transferring)

The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

You can not load magazines to the bookshelf. Some magazines go there automatically and can not be placed elsewhere. Other magazines do not go there and can not be moved there. It all depends on the relationship between the publisher and Apple.

GoDaddy ISP emails quit working 1/5/15 but I made NO changes. What's happened?

I've used Thunderbird for my multiple email accounts for several years with no problem. On 1/5/15, my GoDaddy ISP email account quit working. I got an error message saying the password was incorrect. I hadn't made any changes to it. I tried re-entering the correct password, then checked all my incoming and outgoing server settings. All were correct. Deleted and reinstalled the email account. Same result. To my knowledge all server settings and passwords are correct. Only GoDaddy ISP doesn't work. Gmail accounts work fine. My GoDaddy ISP webmail works fine. I just can't get Thunderbird to work with it. Until 1/5/15, it had worked fine.

How to Render in Premiere pro CS 5.5 High quality but low file size

I have rendered in premiere pro .mts file this settings : (NTSC, 1280X720,245fps,VBR 1 pass, target bit rate 6mb and max bitrate 9.0mb) my original file size : 2.1GB. after rendering file size 683MB. but render file is flickering. if i increase bid rate, then file no flickering but file size be very large. have any suggestion to reduce file size without flickering.
N.B: This video is green screen shot. so, i use some effect such as (chroma key and noise remover).
