Text from After Effects Project doesn't look sharp in FCP

I created a text sequence in after effects. Its rendered MOV looks crisp and clear but when I import it into FCP, the text looks jagged and the colors are less saturated. I also tried using the Media Manager to recompress the clip but it just doesn't have the sheen that the AE export does.
Why?

For one...
Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL BROADCAST MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
The Canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The Viewer shows you the material in its native format.
1. Disable overlays on the Canvas.
2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline).
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or broadcast monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
Then for two, what settings did you export this from in AE? And what are your sequence settings in FCP? If you are working with a DV timeline, then your titles will inherit the DV 5:1 4:1:1 compression, and that doesn't treat text very well at all.

  • Export a 3D title text from after effects to my desktop

I am having trouble exporting my 3D title text from after effects to my desktop to use in premiere pro...sending to render que but won't render for export. Am I missing a step?

It would help if we knew your render settings, your experience level with AE, a little more about your workflow. Even knowing what version of AE and what OS may be helpful. This is probably just user error. Normal workflow would be to add the composition to the render cue, select a folder (the desktop is a lousy place to store assets by the way) and then press render. Without changing anything you'll get lossless DIm (digital intermediate) suitable for use in any NLE but not suitable for playback. If you need transparency then you should select lossless with alpha in the output module from the pull down.
If you want something else then tell us more.
Inside AE, if you see a search help field at the top right corner of the app type in 'rendering,' press enter, then read through the first two articles.

  • Importing project from after effects to premiere, plug in effect not available?

Hello all, Im using cs5. When I import a video project to premiere from after effects, i get an error message saying that an effect plugin from after effects is not available in premiere. Specifically the glow effect. I thought that since after effects had the effect that premiere would too. I'm asking for the college i go to as we are not too familiar with this program and we have a sub for the next few weeks, thanks in advanced !

oh sorry, i didnt notice that the post i posted didnt have really any info, the page froze and the page saved my info, i guess i submitted the wrong post. anyways, this whats going on.
I make an after effects cs5 composition which is a .MOV video i took, roughly 1 minute with the glow effect applied to the video. I then import the composition to premiere, premiere then gives me the error that premiere does not have the glow effect and therefore, won't be applied. below is my specs and here is a link to another post of mine that might possibly have something to do with this. after effects cs5 keylight (1.2) crash with dynamic link error?

  • Getting Error while transfering projects from After effects to premier pro?

    Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE FreePin3
This is the error i get when i try to export and open After Effects projects in to Premier? Im working with the puppet tool and i want to export my project to premier pro cs3 so i can further edit it there. Im using After Effects Cs3 and Premier Pro CS3? please help

Well, does Premiere have a "Puppet Tool"? Absolutely not. Therefore how do you expect this feature to come over to PPro? Sorry, but that's simply impossible. You will have to render the project or use Dynamic Link from withing Premiere ("Import After Effects Composition), not the other way around.

  • Getting After Effects project properties and metadata programatically

    Hi,
I'm building a render-farm and I'd like to extract some of the adobe after effects project fields from an .aep or .aepx file. To me it makes more sense to send the start and end frames to be rendered to each individual machine rather than depend on the shared folder feature. If this is possible, the project metadata in projects saved as xml doesn't seem to contain this information in plain text.
If there is a command line tool that can scan an AE project and print out information such as fps, duration, compositions, that would be perfect.
    Thank you,
    Conrado

    Mylenium -
I found the information I needed - this is a huge one for me, since I organize all of my projects using Bridge - I just discovered that in Bridge, if you go into the XMP Metadata by right-clicking the .mov file, the window which opens has a Tab view - the second from the end is Advanced. If you then roll open the Schema entry, under creatorAtom:aeProjectLink (struct), lo and behold, there sits the project name with the full path!
This is huge, in terms of being able to pinpoint the project which created the final output on my system.

  • HELP: My Videohive After Effects project is rendering artifacts!  AE CS6

    Hi all,
    HP-HPE 510t
    i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz
    16GB Ram
    Windows 8 x64bit
    Nvidia GTX 660 Ti
I purchased a Videohive After Effects project with motion gfx and video, and it  is rendering artifacts in two places.
I'm exporting Quicktime + animation, tried + PNG, and + photo jpeg but all with the same results.
I even contacted the author but he cannot explain why either. The interesting thing is, it renders beautifully without any artifacts in AE.
Only on the export render do I see the black silhouette artifacts. Below are some photos of what I mean.
Please help? i'm trying to export the highest quality for youtube and am going to H.264 the lossless version.
    It looks correct in AE:

But with black artifacts in lossless render?

    Thank Rick,
Only reason that I'm using photobucket instead of the built-in image embeddor (camera icon), is because it doesn't seem to be working for me. All I get is an empty dialog box, tried also with video but that one seems to be working properly.
    maybe ill try firefox.
    any solutions for the artifacts??
My output module settings so far have been..
    tried:
    1) Quicktime + Animation (lossless) quality 100
    2) Quicktime + photo jpg
    3) Quicktime + PNG (lossless) quality 100
    4) Quicktime + H.264  30mbps
tried rendering again with "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" turned off...still getting artifacts only on these text offset animation frames.
still looks perfect while in after effects.. I restarted my computer, I cannot figure this out.

  • Feature Request - Editable Illustrator Text in After Effects

    Hello,
I would absolutely love it if I could convert text from Illustrator to editable text in After Effects. For most animated videos this is a pretty basic workflow that would help out so much. Right now the only solution appears to be having a "guide layer" of sorts with all your text on it, and then copying and pasting the text from AI to AE and then lining it up with the guide layer. Can be a very tedious process if you are working on a project with a lot of text. Most shots are designed in AI before going into AE which is why the text is already laid out.
    Thanks!
    Remington

Yes, we know that! But we are dealing with projects which have vast amounts of text and elements composed in Illustrator and increasingly InDesign. Maybe the key would be for Illustrator and Indesign to have a dedicated export function to AfterEffects. Not much to ask considering how many people around the planet use this workflow. I would pay for an AE script if it was available.

  • How to change render resolution of After Effects project in Adobe Media Encoder for an H264 preview?

I'd like to render a 1080i comp at half resolution or third resolution in AME to speed up render times for low-res previews. I just had a low-res H264 preview take 5 minutes to encode in AE, and 28 minutes in AME.
This is easily accomplished in the After Effects render settings. However, the "video" option in AME seems to imply the project is encoded at that resolution, not rendered at it.
I went into AE and changed the setting in the composition viewport to "half", but when I queue it up in AME, the "Match Source" button still indicates 1080.
What is the correct method to get the results I want?
I'm currently using AE CC and AME CC on Windows.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this question. Knowing this isn't possible at least narrows my options down. It would be helpful to provide some kind of list of what comp settings carry over into AME from After Effects. Is it essentially everything that is enabled in the Timeline? (I know that motion blur settings do.)
I'll put this in a feature request, but yes, we need the other half of After Effects Render Queue in AME in order for AME to be a good replacement for rendering from AE. I'll give you my thoughts on why Render Settings are essential before you would actually want to render with AME instead of doing so because you have to (either because you want to render in the background, or need a codec that has been removed from AE.)
    1. Speed: Simply applying a Render Settings preset is much faster than manually setting motion blur, frame blending, work area, etc.
    2. Reliability: Not being able to apply a Render Settings preset at the time of render is a recipe for missing a crucial setting buried in a comp, then having to redo a render and wasting time.
    3. Features: As noted above, there is no way to approximate Render Queue's ability to change resolutions at render, which results in a lot of wasted time when that feature is needed.
Render Settings I think are crucial to making AME rendering worthwhile for AE users:
    1. Rendering resolution
    2. Work Area/Entire Composition toggle
    3. Field Rendering (wait, does this mean AME can't currently render to fields?)
    4. And PRESET ability these settings, so I'm not doing them manually every time.
I realize that your team clearly doesn't spend the same amount of time I do making low res H264 previews and sending final files out in H264 format, so you don't appreciate the impact of the changes you made. Moving to AME for that stuff is a real inconvenience, but implementing the settings above could help soften the blow.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

  • How do I generate HTML5 files from After Effects CC?

    Hi
Forgive my n00b question, but I've built a small video in After Effects that I need to import into Adobe Edge Animate. Edge says it will take .ogg files, so how do I convert an After Effects project to output usable footage available to HTML5 sources?
    Thanks again,
    Rich

Rick (and anyone else working through this issue):
I received this info when I posted this same question on the Edge Animate forums, I hope it helps :-)
    Hi Rich,
Unfortunately, Adobe Media Encoder doesn't have native support for ogg/theora or ogg/vorbis. However, you can install a (currently beta) plug-in on your system which will enable ogg encoding in AME:
    fnordware/AdobeOgg · GitHub
Or, if you'd rather, you can also install the Firefox extension Firefogg, and encode to ogv directly from Firefox:
Firefogg - video and audio encoding for Firefox
I've had excellent results using both of the above methods.

  • Color in .mov file from After Effects CS6

Scrren shot of how my animation looks in After Effects CS6 (on the left), vs. how it looks when rendered to a .mov file. (on the right). See how washed-out the colors look?
I am on a Mac, latest software versions and OSX.7.4. The source material is in RGB mode,  Color Setting is Adobe RGB 1998, which is my wRGB working space. Color settings are synchronized across the entire suite. In the AE project settings, I see that color management is turned on and we are indeed in the  Adobe RGB 1998 color space.
Possibly export settings, because I do not know thing one about those!

Read this FAQ: What is the best format for rendering and exporting from After Effects?
Then I would suggest trying a different codec.  When you send your comp to the Render Queue it says lossless next ot the Output Module Settings, that means that it's using After Effect's defualt lossless settings, which uses a codec called Animation.  Animation is an ancient codec that delivers huge files and it isn't used so much in production anymore.  If you click on lossless the Output Module Settings screen will come up where you can change the format of your render and you can change the codec by hitting the Format Options button.
I've seen that washed out issue before with the Animation codec and just did some tests.  I also played with the Color Management settings using the Animation codec by going to the upper right hand tab in the Output Module Settings menu.  That seemed to have no effect on the final look of the render.  A quicktime render with the Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec seems to match the AE screenshot almost identically.
Unfortunately, you can't get the ProRes codecs without having either Final Cut Pro installed or Apple Motion.  I think it's possible to buy them from the Apple website.  However, there are other lossless codecs you can try such as Uncompressed YUV 10bit or 8bit, but I just did a test and I got a much darker render than the ProRes renders and the screenshot.  Judge for yourself what's best...

  • HELP! My After Effects project is complete, but when I render out and playback the video is a lot faster then the original playback.

I have finished my After Effects project. The project includes a lot of text and fade ins and outs and looks perfect in the playback. But once I render and playback with Quicktime the video does not look the same. The animations are very jumpy. Please help!
    Thanks,
    David V

    Hey David,
Also, my AE comp is 29.97, but i have four other comps in that one and they're 23.97 fps.
It seems like that would be the likely culprit. Is there a specific reason those comps (which are, I assume, nested inside the 29.97 one?) are 23.976? Do they contain 23.976fps footage? Mixing of comps, video and different frame rates can often cause juddery playback after rendering, as the interpolation of the frame rates to the master render frame rate happens without any interaction on the user's part. But AE gives many different options (and techniques, everyone has their own) to assist with getting the frame rates and speeds more aligned so the final frame rate is perfect for them all. It takes a little planning, that's all.
Let me know, I'll be glad to help if this is the issue.

  • Blurry comp from After Effects to Premiere

    Hello,
I did a simple logo as a 3D object to spin and have some text flash by. I encoded it and imported it to Prem Pro. The problem is the logo and text look blurry when I hit play. Is there a rule of thumb for export settings etc etc. Thanks for the help.

    Suggestions -
    1. Use Dynamic lik instead of exporting from after effects and then impoting in premiere pro if you have production premium or master collection.
    2. If you are exporting for the purpose of importing in another application (premiere pro or Encore) you should chose to export in uncompressed format like uncompressed avi. So that you dont loose quality twicw that is once while export from after effect and then while export from premiere pro.

  • Exporting Motion Graphics and animation from After Effects CS5

I find that exporting from After Effects is problematic when using a ramp or working with anything that has a gradient of some kind. Always banding and artifacts.
Any insight into how to achieve good result with projects such as this?
    Thx in advance.

I find that exporting from After Effects is problematic when using a ramp or working with anything that has a gradient of some kind.
...then don't! Sorry, but this is the same old thing: Simple computational math dictates that between points A and B only so many discrete color levels can exist in 8bit color and that any distance beyond 1024 pixels will result in duplicate pixels of the same colors to be adjacent, commonly referred to as banding. Or in other words: You are looking to fix a thing that can't really be fixed, even more so when compression reduces the available color range further. Yes, you can use all sorts of tricks like adding noise or adjusting gamma to minimize this, but it will never go away. The ugly harsh truth is, that it all starts with a flawed design approach and any of that is merely trying to fix things at the wrong and. As I said in my initial sentence, don't use gradients that cover such large distances along just one axis or uniformely colored areas. Ad structure by adding more gradients perpendicular/ at an angle to the main gradient, use subtle color variations, add vignetting or generally use "busy" designs that have more elements or textures that would allow to forego large uniform areas....

  • Exporting from After Effects (field dominance issues?)

    Hi all,
I created a FCP DV/NTSC sequence with field dominance set to none (I'm working with still images, this improves the quality a lot). I then export that sequence as a quicktime movie file and import that movie file into After Effects.
The problem is after I'm done working in After Effects, I can't export a quicktime file without it looking really poor quality. When exporting, I preserve all the original FCP sequence settings, except the field dominance settings(doesn't seem to be an option in After Effects for this?).
So pretty much I am trying to get a sharp picture when exporting in After Effects, so I can take it back into FCP. Please assist.

Your workflow is quite limited by the DV NTSC sequence. If your sequence is all stills, you are not necessarily tied to that setting at all. Do you need to output to a VTR via FireWire ultimately? What is your final output?
A better sequence choice might be DV50. You would export a QT movie, current settings. You don't actually export from After Effects. You render by adding your comp to the Render Queue. Good render settings would be DV50 (this would not require rendering in FCP), Animation, or perhaps ProRes 422 HQ if you have access to it. You would choose not to render fields.
If it's all stills, it would be better yet to simply start in After Effects.
