Text Import Options when Placing a .DXF File

I am trying to place or even open an AutoCad .DXF file in Illustrator and keep getting a window asking for text import options. I have read several forums and files about importing .DXF files in Illustrator and it seems that it shouldn't be that hard. What am I missing?

I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while and I am thoroughly stumped. A co-worker has emailed me .ai files in the past without issue. In the last couple months, however, her attached .ai files no longer open properly.
This is the first screen I get when trying to open the files:
Regardless of what checkboxes are marked or options changed, the outcome is always the same:
If you can't read that, the error code is as follows:

Putting this line of code into Google returns exactly "0" finds.
Nobody else in the company seems to have an issue with opening the same file when this co-worker forwards it to them. I did notice, however, that the file is 141 kb within her email, but when I download it, it shrinks to 344 bytes. I don't know if for whatever reason my computer is just not downloading all of the information or what might be going on.
To reiterate, these are the facts that I know:
1. She is on a mac and I am on a PC.
2. We are both using Illustrator CS6.
3. Other co-workers on PCs do not have this problem when she emails it to them.
4. The file shrinks from 141 kb to 344 bytes when I try to download it from her email.
Edit: I just had her send the email to my personal gmail account and the file opened perfectly, so this appears to be an issue with office365.com which is where my business email is located. Everyone else here uses the same email service, however, so this is still an isolated issue with my account.
Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.

My computer went into blue screen crash in the midst of a file save and after restarting, when I tired to reopen the file that I was working it, it just kept showing the "Text Import Options" window, and then blank. I was already working on the file prior, and have saved it successfully many times and opened it without fail. The file is also about 27mb, which leads me to believe (hope) that the content is still there and not entirely gone! ><
Searching google and this forum, I've tried the following on two laptops
1) EnableRecovery and the ctsl+shift+alt method, nothing happened, and no _ file generated
2) Placing the file in Illustrator -- got a blank image
3) Placing the file in InDesign -- InDesign crashes
4) Opening it in acrobat to save as .eps -- unable to open in acrobat and "it is not a valid file" .
Has anyone managed to successfully resolve this problem before? The threads that I have read so far do not seem to have any conclusive solutions or even reasons for this error to have occurred.
Please let me know if there's any way to salvage the file! I will greatly appreciate not having to redo 16hours of work and redesigning about 40+ artboard )~~:

I have spent the last two or three days trying to do what you suggested. I uninstalled Adobe 6 from Windows. Some files that CS6 placed on my system during installation remained, including fonts and .dll files.
I had to abandon the Cleaner Tool you suggested because in one screen it allowed me to specify removing CS6 only, but on the following screen it only gave on option to remove ALL Adobe programs. I could not do that because I didn't have the serial number handy for CS3 in case I want to reinstall it at some point.
I tried to get technical help with the Cleaner Tool problem but no definitive help was available, so I reinstalled CS6 again without having the benefit of the Cleaner Tool. I tried to get the serial number for CS3 so I could use the Cleaner Tool but spent 2 wasted hours in chat. Even though I had a customer number, order number, order date, place of purchase, the email address used AND 16 digits of the serial number, in two hours the agent couldn't give me the serial number. After two hours I had nothing but instructions to wait another 20 minutes for a case number.
Illustrator CS6 is still trying to open some backups as Text and otherNone of the problems have been fixed. I have tried to open/use the .ai files in CS6 installed on another system and am getting the same result, so I don't think the software was damaged by the cleaner. The hard drive cleaner is well-known and I've run it many times without any problem to previous versions of Illustrator or any other programs.
When I ordered, the sale rep promised good technical support and gave me an 800 number, but after I paid the $2000, I learned that the 800 number she gave me doesn't support CS6 and hangs up on me. Adobe doesn't call it a current product even though they just sold it to me about 3 weeks ago.
Would appreciate any help you experts can offer. If I can't solve this, the last backup I can use was from June and I will have lost HUNDREDS of hours of work and assets that I cannot replace.
Exhausted and still desperately in need of help...

Text Import Options

When i create some artwork within a new ai file and save it to my windows server share when i try and open that file again it comes up with the Text Import Options dialog screen and no matter what i pick here is just throughs up gobbly **** on the screen.

How about if you copy o the server, then copy back to a local drive. If that file opens, then it appears there is no way to open files directly off the server. Since that’s a bad idea anyway it’s a mixed blessing, since it makes it impossible to do something you shouldn’t do. As to why… Ask you IT guys. They’s like nothing better than t chase down some obscure problem that only bothers those jerks in the graphics department that are always giving them extra work.
Kidding. Graphics and advertising departments move tons of data compared to the average user’s ounces of data. Of course they put a higher demand on the network.

Text Import Options Menu Box

I recently created a deck of cards in Illustrator for a design show. All the elements were created in Illustrator CS4 in different files. I started a new file and put the cards together printed and saved my file as usual. a week later I tried to open up the file and now the TEXT IMPORT OPTIONS box appears and it wont open up my file and all the hard work i put in putting them together. the element files open up as usual. Is my file gone forever? will i have to piece them back? Is ther anyway of opening it up?

3 words: Versioning, versioning and backups. Oh, and did I mention versioning and backups? Yes, the file is most likely gone *poof*, so it wil lhave to be reassembled. And you realyl might consider developing a strategy to keep valuable work files safe.

When you select the placed file with the selection tool, it says 100%, but if you select with the direction tool, file has been changed any where from 98 to 102 %, not staying at the 100%? why is this and how can you asure the size does not change when placed or when updating the illustrator link?

Probably you have inserted files in a frame whose content was previously adequate with "Fit Content Proportionally" or "Fill Frame Proportionally".
The new content in the same frame will have the same characteristics as the previous one

Illustrator CC 17.0.0 *always* merges layers when opening a DXF file, even if you have the "Merge Layers" unchecked.
1. Open a DXF file that contain multiple layers in Illustrator CC 17.0.0
2. Uncheck the "Merge Layers" button.
3. Click OK.
Results: It has merge all the layers into one layer.
Expected results: It should open with multiple layers preserved. Illustrator CS6 works properly.

Why can't I get the "save as" option when I download a file, it automatically saves EVERYTHING to download folder.

When I download a file, I used to get an option to "save as", instead of just save. If I download a file I like to immediately download it into the appropriate folder on my desktop (not just one folder.) Instead I have to download it, go into the downloads folder and move it. I do a lot of downloading for work and this is just an extra step that I find so annoying. Is there a way to change this, or and "add on" feature to get "save as" as an option? I get this option on Internet Explorer, but I do not like using IE :(

P.S. Not sure if this is important, but I am using Windows 8 :(

Why does a TIF image look blurry when placed in InDesign file?

Hi all,
I've placed a logo in my InDesign file that I saved out of Photoshop. It appear blurry when in InDesign and I do have it set to high image quality display so that isn't the issue. It is also set as CMYK and I haven't resized it after saving from Photoshop.
I tried saving a jpg so it would be crisper but then I have a white box behind it when placed in the InDesign file.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to send it to print but can't let it go until I'm sure it won't print like a blurry mess.

Sub-pixel sampling. Read up on it. you are placing your images at odd values and it gets resampled. Can be anything from the image inside the frame, the image frame itself, some styling option in ID...

IMovie doesn't allow the Import option when selecting a movie to import

I am just starting to use iMovie '08. There is a movie that I made (of my dog) in 2001. It is in my external hard drive. When I am in iMovie '08 and click the Import button I browse to that external hard drive and select that movie with its component parts, but the ”Import“ link is greyed out and my only choice is Cancel! I do not want to cancel!
How can I get that video/movie of my dog from my external hard drive into my '08 iMovie? I do want to keep all of the iMovie work in that external hard drive and not on my internal hard drive. I sure could use some advice at this point.....

do you suggest that I just use a Firewire connection to get the footage out of my Sony camcorder?
For me, that would depend on whether the footage on the camcorder is the original source footage or a tape made from the original project and whether the camcorder is digital or analog. Obviously I would want to avoid repeated conversions as much as possible.
Am I correct in assuming that iMovie '08 will surely accept and be able to manage the footage?
I haven't had problems importing from either an old Sony Hi8/Digital8 hybrid or a newer HDV mini-DV Sony but there seem to be a lot of people having problems in this area. Since you indicate the footage is from 2001, I would assume there would be fewer "recognition" problems than with all of the latest HDD/DVD/AVCHD models.
I can do that and just stop trying to fix a problem that is unfixable at this stage.
Still not quite sure what your basic problem is. Based on various comments your made, I would now assume you were trying to import "project" files contained in a previous iMovie "package" and not regular files "visible" to the Finder. If so, then that may be part of your problem. I believe the manner of storing source/project files has changed more than once as iMovie evolved.
Winston, I am looking now at the files in question. In my external hard drive (”Big Dog“) I see: Cheyenne 2000mMovie -01. Then there is another folder titled Cache and another folder titled Media. In the Media folder I see 126 clips.
If this were an iMovie 06 project, then the 126 files in the "Media" folder represent the current source files, along with, rendered transitions, titles, and/or effects, etc. files and in the "Cache" you would find the ".plist" files and the "Timeline Movie" file. The "Timeline Movie" is a "reference" file representing the "current" status of your edited project. If you open it in QT and check the "Properties" window (if you have QT Pro), then the resources tab will "map" how the 126 files in the "Media" folder are ordered in the various tracks. If you want to import this "timeline" into iMovie '08 rather than the source files or source files and all of the rendered clips, then with the "Timeline Movie" open in QT Pro (if you have it), select the "Save As..." File menu option to create a "Standalone" file to be stored outside of the project package file -- say in your "Movies" folder. This file, which is now visible from within iMovie '08, can be imported into iMovie '08 subject to the restrictions already mentioned. (E.g., make sure you delete the "Tween" track in the file, if present, before attempting to import the Timeline file.)

My DW CC latest version does not show me the text field option when trying to make a form!!! P

So when I youtube the same version as mine it still show to other users the text field option but on my insert panel under forms it does not give me the option

Not repsonding when placing or saving files

I have recently been having problems placing, saving and opening files in Illustrator. The program either says not responding or just does nothing? Please help!!! I am running windows XP.

The option is arguably named poorly, enabling the option does change the behaviour, but not in the way you'd reasonably expect.

How do i change folder display options when I save a file?

When I go save a file and select a folder to save it, the window shows all folders expanded. How do I change the options to all folders collapsing so that unless I click on that folder, it doesn't open automatically?
This way it makes it easier for me to find the folder instead of looking through hundreds of file to find a folder that I want to save the file at.

I realized I probably should have included some images to make it easier to understand.
As you see below, when I go and save a file it shows all the folders expanded with all the files in that folder.
What I want to do is to have the folders displaying like below where I manually open the folder that I want to save this file in. I want it to do this every time instead of the first option where everything is showing all at once vs. me opening each folder manually.
If there's an option to switch that that would be great!

LR 4 - are you given the import option when uploading new pictures, I only get cancel?

I've been using Lightroom 2.7 and thought it time to upgrade. Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to import some new pictures. My thumbnails came up and I allocated a file. Lightroom 4, however, isn't giving me the option to go ahead and import, only to cancel out. Please, any suggestions????

Can you tell us a little more Lucy?
You allocated a file - you mean you put a checkmark next to the photo you want to import? Or something else?
Only the cancel button available usually means there are no photos selected to import. If you can post a screenshot of what you can see, we can quite easily confirm that.
