Text in form field disappears when I move to next field

I have a PDF form for doing estimates for my business. I e-mailed it to myself and open it up on iPad. Then I selected open in Adobe.
I can enter data in any of the fields just fine but when I move to the next field the data I previously entered disappears unless I go back to that field to edit.
I tried e-mailing a document to myself and when I opened it up on my laptop computer the data fields are empty regardless of whether I highlight that field.
Can anybody help me out with this problem?
Thank you, Bob Kroth

Hi Pat,
Well I'm not sure what doc you were looking at but here is a similar pdf.
I have both Adobe and Scan soft PDF software. If you mouse over the area
where the address would be typed in and click on that area the text that is
there will appear. When you click to new field text disapears. I typed in a
price for mowing and when you click on that field you can see the price. I
have also tried this on Adobe for iPhone and have the same problem.
Sorry if I'm not explaining this clearly.

    Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

    I am not aware of a field type "Help" within a PDF form. I do not see it as a form field that can be added in the form edit mode.
    Forms Central forms do not support all the features of Acrobat forms.
    Are you talking about the "Tool Tips" or a hidden field that only shows when one enters a field and is hidden upon exiting the field.

  • Why does added text disappear when I move the cursor

    After adding text to an unprotected .pdf file the text disappears when I move the cursor and want to add a second box of text. The text in the first box reappears when I double click on the space where the box was. How do I set the text so that it remains visible and printable?

    Hi,
    I think the data in the PDF file was filled-in using MAC preview.
    One option is to ask the user to fill the file again using Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
    Or else refer to following link:

  • ITunes entry disappears when I move the cursor - up to 3 times

    A small but nevertheless annoying problem - very often an entry typed into iTunes e.g. Album or Genre will disappear when I move the cursor. This will happen up to three times in a row. Then the iTunes software accepts the change. Anyone else having this experience? Thanks, Adrian OS 10.7.5 ITunes 11.0.1

    Hi Ernestprinter,
    Check if you have multiple Java versions installed on your computer.
    Try clean boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Also i would suggest uninstall security software and install it back.
    Currently you may use F9 key to restore Menu bar.

  • I'm creating a PDF form and want to include faded text to show an example of what I want people to fill in. Much the same as a search bar in a web browser - this needs to disappear when they click in the field to fill in their details. How do I do this?

    I was wanting to create a form that would show sample information in a watermark effect that would diappear once the field was clicked onto.
    Example form question and field below:
    Rather than the blank fields I wanted them to show some examples (in faded text) but which dispeears once the field is clkicked into (nuch the same as a web search online works)
    Anyone know if this is possible?

  • Is there a way to have type in a text field that would disappear when you filled in the field?

    I'm trying to create a form in Acrobat X that has instructions in the text field (like account number) for instance...that would disappear when the customer starts to fill in their number or information? I've seen examples of this but cannot figure out how to make it work.

    You can use a custom Format script like:
    if (!event.value) event.value = "Instructional text goes here";

  • Form fields disappearing when combining PDFs

    I'm having a curious issue where form fields that display properly in a one-page PDF document are disappearing when the document is combined into a larger, multi-page PDF document.  The individual page (created in Acrobat Pro 8) has 12 rows of checkboxes that show up when the document is opened in Acrobat Pro 8, Pro X, or even Preview.  However, after being combined into a 150-page PDF (with Acrobat Pro X), the top three rows of checkboxes have disappeared (and this occurs across all of the programs I just listed).  I've tried re-doing the offending page in both Acrobat 8 and X, and replacing it within the multi-page document (again, trying both Acrobat 8 and X) and once it's combined into the larger PDF, those top three rows of checkboxes always disappear.  I'm at a loss.
    Any suggestions for troubleshooting this?
    - Mac OS 10.6.7
    - iMac 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo / 3GB RAM
    - Acrobat Pro X (or 8)

    I'm combining them by using the "Combine Files Into a PDF" feature in Acrobat.  I've done this countless times before with no issues -- this is the first time I've seen this happen.

  • Set to press the enter key to move to next field on form? 9 pro ext-

    i have creasted a form. I want the person who is using the form to not have to tab to go to the next line. I would prefer to  have the person fill the field and press enter, then the cusor should move to the next file of entry. (instead of tab) I can figure out how to do this. HELP PLEASE!

    It's possible, but you have to use JavaScript. For example, create a new document-level JavaScript and add the following function to it:
    function goNext(sNextField) {
        // Set the focus to the next field
        if (event.commitKey === 2) {
            getField(sNextField).setFocus();
    You then have to call it like this from the Format (or Keystroke) event of a text field:
    goNext("text2");
    Where "text2" is the field name of the next field.

  • Tab key to move to next field

    Under iPhone OS 2.x or 3.x, is there a way to cause the keyboard focus to switch to the next field? Like hitting the tab key under Mac OSX.
    I'm trying to do my 'object add' screen and want, ideally, to do it as a table view with a section, title, and cell for each of the 9 data fields.

    Hi Phil - I've been playing with a test bed, trying to get it to do what you described. It's close to finished, but I need to quit now and won't be able to get back to it until Sunday. Here's what I've got so far. Maybe you'll be able to finish it before I do:
    // RootViewController.h
    #import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
    #define kTableViewSections 9
    #define kTableViewRowHeight 36
    #define kTextFieldTag 100
    @interface RootViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDataSource, UITableViewDelegate, UITextFieldDelegate> {
    IBOutlet UITableView *theTableView;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITableView *theTableView;
    @end
    // RootViewController.m
    #import "RootViewController.h"
    #import "BlueAppDelegate.h"
    @implementation RootViewController
    @synthesize theTableView;
    - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
    return kTableViewSections;
    - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
    return 1;
    - (NSString)tableView:(UITableView)tableView
    titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section {
    return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Field %d", section];
    - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    return kTableViewRowHeight;
    - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell";
    UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
    if (cell == nil) {
    cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease];
    cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;
    CGRect textFieldRect = CGRectMake(20, 4, 280, kTableViewRowHeight-8);
    UITextField *textField = [[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:textFieldRect];
    textField.backgroundColor = [UIColor lightGrayColor];
    textField.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:22];
    [textField setAutocorrectionType:UITextAutocorrectionTypeNo];
    textField.tag = kTextFieldTag;
    textField.delegate = self;
    [cell.contentView addSubview:textField];
    [textField release];
    // find the text field and set its tag based on the current section
    for (UIView *txtField in cell.contentView.subviews) {
    if (txtField.tag >= kTextFieldTag) {
    txtField.tag = kTextFieldTag + indexPath.section;
    NSLog(@"cell: Found %@ tag=%d", txtField, txtField.tag);
    break;
    return cell;
    - (NSIndexPath *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    return nil;
    - (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField {
    // textField is the current first responder
    NSLog(@"textFieldShouldReturn: textField.tag=%d", textField.tag);
    [textField resignFirstResponder];
    // scroll the next cell into view
    int nextSection = (textField.tag - kTextFieldTag + 1) % kTableViewSections;
    NSLog(@" nextSection=%d", nextSection);
    NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:nextSection];
    [self.theTableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:indexPath atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:NO];
    // find the textField for the cell and make it first responder
    UITableViewCell *cell = [self.theTableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
    for (UIView *textField in cell.contentView.subviews) {
    if (textField.tag >= kTextFieldTag) {
    NSLog(@"return: Found %@ tag=%d", textField, textField.tag);
    [textField becomeFirstResponder];
    break;
    return YES;
    - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated {
    [super viewDidAppear:animated];
    NSLog(@"viewDidAppear");
    // find the first text field and make it first responder
    NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0];
    UITableViewCell *cell = [self.theTableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
    for (UIView *textField in cell.contentView.subviews) {
    if (textField.tag >= kTextFieldTag) {
    NSLog(@"appear: Found %@ tag=%d", textField, textField.tag);
    [textField becomeFirstResponder];
    break;
    - (void)dealloc {
    [theTableView release];
    [super dealloc];
    @end
    There are three jobs on my todo list:
    1) Bug fix: In textFieldShouldReturn, I had to turn off the animation for scrollToRowAtIndexPath because when the focus wanted to wrap from section 8 back to section 0, the cell for section 0 wasn't ready. I think we need to wait for the scroll animation to end before trying to reset the focus;
    2) Bug fix: The contents of each text field needs to be saved as soon as it loses focus. The saved text then needs to refresh the section when it next becomes visible. Right now you'll see, for example. the text from section 1 reappears in section 6 when that section becomes visible. Of course, this is because the cell from section 1 has been reused for section 6. So the contents of each reused text field needs to be cleared and refreshed from a cache in cellForRowAtIndexPath;
    3) Clean up: I use a for loop to find each cell's text field. I can't simply use viewWithTag because the tag is within a range instead of being a constant. There are three of these loops, so that code wants to be in a helper method. Of course, if you're using a subclassed cell, you won't need those loops, since the text field can be a property of the cell.
    I'm sure there willl be other odds and ends to clean up, but I think the above structure might do the job for you. Please let me know if you have things working before Sunday afternoon.

  • Hyperlinked text--the text, not the link--disappears when I create a PDF from a book in FM 11

    I am editing a FrameMaker 11 document with some text that is hyperlinked to a website. Earlier PDFs output fine. When I created the last PDF, some of the text disappeared in the PDF, but it's still visible in FM. On the PDF, the hyperlink is active in the blank space and it works to go to the website. Specifically the hyperlinked text is part numbers in a table with a shaded background--I mention this because if I open a page of the defective PDF in Illustrator--the text that has disappeared is behind the shaded square. Some of the hyperlinked part numbers are visible in the PDF--this seems almost random. It's not just part numbers or rows where I have edited something. I'm editing the document, I didn't create it. My background is InDesign and I am a novice in FrameMaker. Appreciate any guidance or suggestions.

    Not really sure that I fixed the problem, but I did find a work around and wanted to post it if someone else runs across the same issue. Apparently the document creator used lots of custom rules and shading. If I pulled up the custom rules and shading palette and just unchecked both the custom ruling and shading boxes, it allowed me to create the print file correctly--the disappearing part numbers were on the new PDF. I didn't have to update the whole book which I didn't want to do because I feared it would mess up the rules and shading. Just unchecking the box before creating the PDF solved that issue for my purposes.

  • Form layer disappears when I zoom in (mouse scroll...not actually changing anything)

    Beginning a brand new comp...using solid black layer and camera...apply Trapcode Form to solid layer. It appears. When I try to blow the comp up (just scrolling in with the mouse wheel to make it bigger), it disappears. No setting other than default. Cannot see form layer unless I zoom back out. Just plain annoying, since I can only see it when I am zoomed waaaaaay out (and therefore cannot see what I am editing).

    Screenshots, comp settings, settings in Form, computer specs, AE version used. We need a lot more info.

  • Why does an image in Preview disappear when I move the window from my laptop screen to my external monitor?

    I have an external 23" Cinema display connected to my MacBook Pro. When I open a file in Preview, moving it from either screen that it was originally on (laptop>LCD or LCD>laptop), the image disappears or "blanks". Only zooming in on the image will re-display it. Any ideas?

    Still investigating this problem.

  • If I highlight text in a pdf, all the text on the page disappears when I next open the saved document. How to retrieve my text?

    When I use the highlight tool in a pdf document and then save the document, the next time I open the document the highlight is still there, but the whole page does not contain any text anymore. Totally blank. How do I retrieve my text?

    Well, you need a PDF viewer – and that would be Adobe Reader.
    Those parameters only work for web-served documents, not for local ones.
