Text in menu templates

I'm not new to DVDSP, but I am new to making menu templates. There, I got that out of the way.
I have a very simple menu template that I need to make. Background, text, and one button. My issue, is that I have the Text Objects set with the text that I would like applied every time. However, when I save the template (as self-contained, not a project template) and then apply it in a new project, all the text reverts to saying the font name and size.
Basically, I want the text to behave as the Text Objects do in the Apple templates, ie "Company Name."
Am I making sense? I'm sure its a simple oversight on my part.
Mike

To be honest, I have mostly looked at the templates from inside Final Cut 6 when I tested its new features. I have had the new Studio for only a few days. HD templates looked great to me even when half of them got cropped off on my 4x3 timeline. Your external display is not lying to you, half the image is indeed cut off.

    Hi Guys,

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
These features rely on JavaScript, and it sounds as though you have scripting enabled if you get (the wrong) color changes. Some add-ons might alter the way scripts operate, so a standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If those features work correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
To also disable plugins, you can use this page:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
    Any change?

  • Are Disc Menu Templates Restricted to Certain Versions of Premiere Elements

I ask this question after visiting the movipix site to look at what templates I might add to my PrE 9 program. This got me to wondering if templates are restricted to certain versions of PrE. After reading various posts in this forum I thought I was getting the message that any templates from Premiere Elements 4 to Premiere Elements 10 were interchangeable. It was a matter of inserting the subfolder from one program into the category folder of another program?
If I were to order a template from the movipix website would I have to check to make sure which versions it would work in? I read where version 9 had some problems with some templates that would not allow menu background video or pictures to show up on the burned dvd even though it was in preview before burning. AT Romano had played with some of the templates but I never could find out if the problem was resolved by Adobe.
    Thanks

    ATR,
Thank you for your response. A wealth of information. Quite a bit of it I had already read. You've gone to a lot of work. Of most interest to me were a couple of posts. One in this forum "Using Disc Menus from Premiere Elements 4 in Premiere Elements 12". (Sorry I didn't copy the message #). The other detailed post was in Elements Village Premiere Elements forum.  http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73006&highlight=templates+folder
These posts are explaining pretty much how to install additonal templates, either between versions, or downloaded templates? Very good. One question on the Elements Village post though. You mentioned deselecting "Read Only" in the properties dialog box of the folder to be transferred. Is this only necessary if transferring from one computer to another? or should this be done when transferring from one PrE version to another within the same computer?
I think you have answered my question on using menu templates across the board from PrE version 4 thru 12. Just a matter of getting them in the correct folders as you have pointed out in your various posts. And it appears that only PrE 9 had the issues that didn't get fixed by Adobe as far as menu background & audio not getting burned to disc?
To give more details on the Menu and Scene Selection buttons. I should have said PLAY ALL instead of Menu. I did not modify them. I merely dragged the Play All button to the bottom left and the Scene button to the bottom right of the Main Menu page. The arrows pointing to them went along with the text. But on the burned DVD they seem to be reversed when the arrow is highlighting the choice to be made. Play All selects Scenes and vice versa. I probably won't be using this template again anyway but was interesting.
Not sure where to post this next question. Is there a way to start a post? where members can list a few of their favorite Disc Menu Templates that they use all the time? Kind of a vague question but I'm guessing out of all of the available templates in each of the versions of PrE only a few get used over and over. As the list would grow people could vote (?) on various ones and some kind of master list might be produced for future use or download. For example: PrE version (or a downloaded version like from Movipix ) used, templates used, categories (ie:general, entertainment, etc.) It seems as though a new version introduced adds some templates and takes some away. Then people are left looking or trying to figure out how to replace them (such as transferring them as we have been discussing)
    Thank you for your time

  • How can I transfer some or all Disc Menu templates from PrE7 to PrE9

I have seen various versions of peopIe swapping templates from one program to another, but didn't see my scenario covered.  I have both Premiere Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 9 and I like the Disc Menu templates better from PrE7 better than PrE9. I am not needing to copy any text or Instant Movie stuff at this point in time. Is there a simple way to copy/paste some or all of the Disc Menu Templates from the 7 folder to the 9 folder?

    Bill and Neale,
Had to try these theories we were talking about. Things went wonky when I created the PrE7 complete folder and inserted in PrE9. The PrE7 folder showed up in the disc menu dropdown list, but when I clicked on it I only got blank menu boxes. So back into windows explorer and deleted the folder I created (2.44 GB worth of menus) and just copied one folder over. From Entertainment, the Drive In Disc menu. That one shows up, seemingly correctly, in PrE9 Entertainment folder. I am enclosing a pic of folders side by side, and you can see how many more menus are in PrE7, just in Entertainment.
You can see the Drive In menu in both folders, in both programs. I haven't outputted anything with the menu yet. Hopefully it works. So, maybe just moving whatever menus a person likes from one program to another, instead of the complete 2.44 GB will work. But one more question comes up. I notice some of the folders have an (A) in front, or an (AV) or (V). I clicked into some of the other folders ie: General, Happy Birthday,Holidays and Events, and some folders they aren't used at all, and other folders are various combinations of one or all. Anybody know what they mean?
Also of note. The menu tree in PrE7 goes directly from DVD Templates to the menu folders. The menu tree in PrE9 has the menu folders in a common folder. Anybody see the reasoning of this?
    Thanks again

  • PE 4 Menu templates

    Hi,
New to PE4 having come from the competition, I am searching for help with creating DVD / BD menus:
1/ How can I modify or access a template with no pictures and with more than 4 lines of "scene" text ?
I only found 1 template (Popcorn Movie) without pictures and there were only 4 lines of text for possible 'scenes' - as I am producing footage of a concert (that I sung in) and we sang 21 songs, I would like to have approx 10-12 scene lines per (sub-)menu page. At present, I have 6 pages of scene menus !!
2/ How to hide unwanted objects on existing templates ?
Re the menu template above (Popcorn Movie), I can only reduce and reposition the objects (red ribbons) or delete text from the text objects. How is it possible to remove them completely ?
3/ How to change colour of font ?
When selecting the scene lines of text, there is police attributes menu which allows you to change the colour of the text - however, it changes only the main colour of the text and not the 'bevel' (outside). - I'd like to either change the bevel to the same colour as the text or remove the bevel altegether - but how ?
4/ How to create seperate scene pages for each entry on 'main' menu ?
For the current project, there is the main concert, a secondary concert and a bonus 'behind the scenes' - I would like the main menu to enable access to each of these 3 but when selecting main concert or secondary concert, would like to have separate scene menus. I followed help-page instructions and added in a Stop Menu and a Main Menu marker between the 3 bits of footage but ended up with 1 main menu and scene menus which contained chapters from a mix of the 2 concerts.
I did manage to change the background image for the menus.
I have also read the help-pages to menus but the answers to my questions below are not available or difficult to find.
    Thanks for your help.
Pentium Duo 2.23GHz, 4Gb DDR, 260Gb HDD with 320Gb external HDD, Sony HDR HC9, captured footage in HDV (m2t), intention to burn to DVD AND BD

Subject: Premiere Elements PE 4 Menu templates
Steve makes very good points and his suggestions are very good.
Because of the semi-automatic authoring, that is done in PrE, things must follow certain conventions very strictly. I use Adobe's full-featured authoring app., Encore, which follows some of the same conventions, but is fully manual, unlike that semi-automatic authoring in PrE. Though I build my own DVD Menus constantly, I have to be very careful, when working on Menu Sets in PrE, as there are many more conventions, and if one omits any, even in very slight ways, things can go horribly wrong.
His tutorials are excellent and will step you through the process correctly. I also strongly recommend that one work ONLY with copies of the Template Menu Sets, and when done, place them into separate, but otherwise identical locations within the Templates' folder hierarchy.
The first thing that I would do would be to spend a bit of time with Windows Explorer, studying the folder hierarchy, and also exactly which files are in each sub-folder. This is very important. Next, I'd spend plenty of time studying the Layers and Layer Sets in a copy of the Menu Set, that I wanted to modify. When you open up the Layers Palette in PS/PSE, there will be a lot of Layers, and most will have rather odd names. Study those names - every character, as some of those characters are very important (they tell PrE what each Layer does), and must be in the exact same place always. Some other characters can be changed, with no problem, but one MUST know which characters are "sacred."
I build DVD Menus daily, but have to work more slowly and more carefully, if the Menu Set is for PrE, and it's because of that semi-automatic nature of authoring, employed by PrE.
Good luck, but go slowly and work very carefully. I'd keep an unaltered Menu Set Open, to study in detail, even while you work.

  • Text and Title Templates

We have 11 computers with Premiere Elements 11 and don't have the luxury of downloading from the website on all of the computers. Is it possible to download all of the Text and Title Templates to one location and then install them on these computers. Even if I have to go to each one and do it manually.
    Thanks
    Steve

    stevedrosss
    Please consider this approach...
For one computer with Premiere Elements 11 Windows, from the appropriate tabs (Tools/Movie Menu; Titles & Templates; Graphics....) in the Expert view workspace, download for those thumbnails with the blue band at the top right corner of the thumbnails.
    Then
    Local Disc C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
    Online
and then make a copy of the Online Folder now complete with assets (expected Folder Size about 5 to 6 GB) and transfer that Online Folder to a USB Flash Drive.
Go to each of your other computers and replace its Premiere Elements 11 Online Folder (see route above) with the one on the USB Flash Drive.
Please review the plan and let us know if that worked for you.
    Thanks.

  • Can't access VCD menu template capabilities / wizard set-up

Elements 3.0, windows XP: I have searched high and low, and although I am a newbie, can not find this answer: regardless of whether I access FILE: NEW: VCD with Menu, or selected the "Creation" button and go to the "create with Photos" menu, then select "VCD with Menu" I can not access the "VCD with menu Creation wizard".
I go directly to the "create a VCD with Menu" screen where I pick my slide shows (previously created). "NTSC" is selected, and the option in the lower right is "Burn". If I select "Burn" it goes directly to create the VCD.
I know that I accessed the Creation Wizard once, where I could pick the Slide show menu template, edit the text, etc. Just as listed in all the help, but I can not seem to get to a point where I can access the wizard any longer.
Sorry for this silly question, but my frustration rages on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Jack.

    jack,
This thread is a duplicate of the thread in the Technical Issues subforum. I suggest that you read my reply in that thread to David when he questions why there had not been a response from Adobe

  • How can I get still photos to appear in menu templates?

I can't get photos to appear in the menu templates in Premiere Elements 11, whether I drag them in or Browse them out. I tried two different templates, and 5 different photo file formats. From what I'm reading online, this is a known bug that has been around since v. 9. How is that possible that a major element of a top-of-the-line video editor doesn't even work? Is there a bug fix or a workaround?

    Hi ATR,
Thank you for your kind response. Now that I’ve calmed down some, I’m willing to keep trying, to a point at least. I’ll try responding to your questions.
I failed to mention that I did update to 12.1 before my last failure. And I still had the problem. So far, I have only deleted the Prefs file and not the entire folder, mostly because the program went into permanent crash mode and I couldn’t even get it to run, let alone try editing my project. That’s when I reinstalled it.
The project is simply a PowerPoint presentation with a soundtrack, which I exported from PowerPoint as an mp4 file. It’s only 7:30 minutes long. So it’s a very tiny file. There is only one menu page and no scene menus.
Yes, I have successfully burned it to disk, once with the gray rectangle on the menu (to confirm whether it would show as a gray rectangle on the TV screen, which it did), and once with the picture on the menu, the one time I succeeded in getting the picture to appear in the menu.
I have tried the picture in multiple image formats, but the one I mainly try is a .bmp that PE generated using the snapshot tool, or whatever it’s called in PE. I figured if PE won’t even load images it created, the Adobe programmers need to start back with square one.

  • Final Cut Pro 7.0 nd Menu templates

Currently, I am looking to upgrade to FCP 7.0 via FC Studio Pro 3, and I am wondering about the menus templates/markers that are claimed to be available in FCP 7.0. Ultimately, I would be looking to try and generate a Blu-Ray disk by outputting in FCP. The web site has some info on the menu templates, however, is possible to have two separate menus one linking to the other? My DVD disks traditionally have two separate menus (one for each separate event) on the same Blu-ray disk. Currently, I can do this in DVD Studio Pro 3.0.,and have the ability to nest up to 99 separate menus/disk.
I am aware of the lack of support for Blu-ray disk authoring in in DVD Studio Pro 4.0 andI was wondering if the Blu-ray encoding and available menu templates in FCP 7.0 would allow me to do this.
Toast Titanium allows separate menus (one per each clip), however, they all have the same background and title as the first and there is no way of changing this.
Does anyone know or has already tried working with the FCP 7.0 and Blu-ray disk menus?

Did you convert the footage to ProRes?
You know, FCP 7 isn't supported on Yosemite. In fact, it wasn't supported on the previous OS either...Mavericks. And running old, end of line apps (discontinued 3.5 years ago) on unsupported OS versions means they won't be stable...because Apple not longer makes sure that FCP 7 will work...it's moved on to FCX.
And Apple is also moving away from Quicktime, and moving towards AV Foundation. The core of FCP 7 is Quicktime.  Mavericks no longer runs Quicktime 7, and that was a fully featured app. Quicktime X is unfinished, and very stripped down. It cannot open all codecs of MOV files...it converts ones it doesn't recognize to H.264 or ProRes and then opens them.  So one BIG issue is that the main core of FCP is missing, and what is there is a very stripped down, unfinished piece of software...that Apple is also phasing out.
My advice is if you want to continue using old software, you need to run it on the OS that supports it. THis is true of any software....be especially so if you are earning a living with it.  If you can't do that, then looking to the future and looking at supported editing apps might be in order. If FCX isn't your thing, there's Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer...

  • Problems with customising menu template backgrounds

    Hi.
I am experiencing problems with changing the background of the included disc menu templates in PE9. I can change the background image to anything i like on the computer and all seems to work OK but when i burn the project to disc (PAL_Dolby DVD) the custom background image has gone and been replace with the default template imagine.
Anyone got any ideas whats going on!
    Thanks

This issue showed up with PrE 9. I do not recall reading of it with earlier versions.
I do not know if the PSD files have some corruption, or if some change in PrE 9's code "did the deed," but many have filed a Bug Report, and I ask that you please do, as well. It should be an easy fix for Adobe (but I am not a coder, or software engineer, and could be wrong).
    Good luck to us all,

  • Drop Zones in DVDSP menu templates

I like to occasionally use the menu templates that come with DVDSP. One thing that frustrates me is the quality of the playback video in the Drop Zone of the template. The image has a somewhat jagged/blocky look to it. It is not as smooth and clear as the original m2v file. Is this an encoding problem? What can I do to correct this situation.
The original work is done in FCP5 and then encoded to m2v using the Quicktime Conversion options. I usually chose the settings for a 6 bit target rate with a 7 max, one time VBR, and "Better" motion detection.

What David said - any footage on a menu that includes other shapes or items from the palette will get encoded to MPEG2. If you have already used MPEG2 as the source footage then DVDSP will pass it through another enocde process, and you will lose quality... your best bet therefore is to use .mov files in this case.

  • DvD Menu Templates

Hi. Just wondering why Premiere Elements 11.0 did not include DvD Menu Templates. Instead, after you choose one, they ask you to download it from the web. Does anyone have a link for these menus? All my work computers are not on line for internet connection and all of them have elements 11.0. Thanks.

Please check out my blog post on Premiere Elements 11 Content
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-no-content-disc-content-downloads.html
Your download choices from within the program are for the particular Content choice or ALL. But, the wait for one can be very long, although some claim they can accomplish that task in seconds. So, the wait for ALL can seem endless. There is an option for having the download take place in the background if that is any help.
Patience is a good part of the answer.

  • No disc menu templates

I'm new to video editing and have just installed premiere elements 7, and I have no menu templates in the disc menu section.  Should they be there? Where can I get them?  Thanks

    Regarding Rendering the Timeline....
The red line running across the Timeline indicates that the Timeline content requires Rendering, whereas green = OK.
You Render the Timeline in the Edit Mode (Orange Tab highlighted). This type of Rendering is done by pressing the Enter Key of the computer Main Keyboard. When the process is complete, the red line will turn green.
You do this type of Rendering to get the best possible preview of what your end product will look like. It does not impact the final quality. In other words, the end product will end up with the same quality with or without this Rendering, but you are just getting a window of opportunity to get an idea what the final product will look like. The process can be very time consuming, but worthwhile if after Rendering the Timeline you see problems which need correcting.
This Rendering process generates preview files (scratch files) that build up on the computer hard, typically in the default location My Documents/Adobe Folder/. If this is a problem, you could go into Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs and direct them to an external hard drive through the browse function there.
RE: Quality..often it is the play back of the finished product that is the ultimate test of quality.

  • I accidentally closed the Pages text formatting menu bar.

I accidentally closed the text formatting menu bar that comes up when select text to change font size, style, etc.  I cannot find out how to restore it so that it automatically opens when I select text.

It isn't gone, just minimized. The top of the screen should have a thick dark brown bar with "Documents", "Undo", etc. Under that should be a thinner lighter brown bar. Touch that thinner bar and the formatting bar should reappear.
