Text is slowing down Motion work flow

I've been having a problem with text in Motion 3 for awhile now, but it's gotten a lot worse all of a sudden. Lately, when I work with text, navigating around the different menus and adjusting the size/tracking/leading/color/etc. of a single word is stalling the software quite a bit. If I work with still images or video within Motion, everything seems to work great, but working with text is becoming unbearable.
I should note that since FCP can't product gradient text, I typically create the text in Motion to export as a PNG file to import into FCP.
Can anyone offer me assistance in correcting this issue? Thank you!

Make sure your render quality is set to Normal instead of Best, unless you are getting the text very close to the camera, or scaling up very large - that will make a difference. Use Draft while working, and render at Normal. Or don't render at all - just bring your Motion project into FCP - no reason to render anything.

safari browser seems to slow down when working with my wifi ASUS AC 68U router - any ideas on why?

Is your problem with Safari on the iPad, or some MacBook Air?
Are you sure that the ASUS firmware is tested with the device having trouble and its operating system?
Note: MacBook Airs do not run iOS. They run Mac OS X, Windows or Linux.

• Query Designer slows down after working some time with it

Hi all,
the new BEx Query Designer slows down when working some time with it. The longer it remains open, the slower it gets. Especially formula editing slows down extremely.
Did anyone of you encounter the same problem? Do you have an idea, how to fix this. To me it seems as if the Designer allocates more and more RAM and does not free that up.
My version: BI AddOn 7.X, Support Package 13, Revision 467
Kind regards,
Philipp

I have seen a similar problem on one of my devices, the 'Samsung A-920'. Every time the system would pop up the 'Will you allow Network Access' screen , the imput from all keypresses from then on would be strangely delayed. It looked like the problem was connected with the switching from my app and the system dialog form. I tried for many many long hours / days to fix this, but just ended up hacking my phone to remove the security questions. After removing the security questions my problem went away.
I don't know if it's an option in your application, but is it possible to do everything using just one Canvas, and not switch between displayables? You may want to do an experiment using a single displayable Canvas, and just change how it draws. I know this will make user input much more complicated, but you may be able to avoid the input delays.
In my case, I think the device wasn't properly releasing / un-registering the input handling from the previous dialogs, so all keypresses still went through the non-current network-security dialog before reaching my app.

• Time stretch to slow down motion

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 7. When I use the time stretch to slow the motion down, my final motion is very "jerky". Any way to smooth that out a bit better?
Thanks,

How does the Slo-mo footage look in Preview?
Also remember that you are basically doubling the number of Frames.
This might also be of use for improving the results:
Set field options for imported interlaced video
In most video, each frame consists of two fields. One field contains the odd‑numbered lines in the frame, and the other contains the even‑numbered lines. The fields are interlaced, or combined, to create the complete image. Adobe Photoshop Elements includes a reverse field order preset for video imported from a hard disk or Flash memory camcorder that uses upper fields first. If your footage was captured with reverse order fields (upper fields first), make sure your project uses either the Standard or Widescreen preset from the Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders presets folder. (See Create or change project presets.)
Ordinarily, interlacing isn’t apparent to a viewer. But because each field captures the subject at a slightly different moment in time, playing a clip in slow-motion, creating a freeze frame, or exporting a frame as a still image makes the two fields discernible. To avoid this, you can deinterlace the image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and either duplicates or interpolates the lines of the remaining field.
Reversing the field dominance, the order in which the fields are recorded and displayed, may also cause playback problems. When the field dominance is reversed, motion appears jerky because the fields no longer appear in chronological order. Fields can become reversed when the field dominance of the original videotape is the opposite of the field dominance of either the video‑capture card used to capture the clip or the video‑editing or animation software that last rendered the clip. Reversing can also happen when you set an interlaced clip to play backward.
To avoid these complications, you can deinterlace the image. Deinterlacing eliminates one field and either duplicates or interpolates the lines of the remaining field. You can also set field options for an interlaced clip so that the clip’s picture and motion quality are preserved in situations such as changing the clip speed, exporting a filmstrip, playing a clip backward, or freezing a video frame.
Select a clip in the Timeline, and choose Clip > Video Options > Field Options.
Select Reverse Field Dominance to change the order in which the clip’s fields appear. This option is useful when the field dominance of the clip doesn’t match your equipment or when you play a clip backward.
For Processing Options, select one of the following choices, and click OK.
None
Does not process the clip’s fields.
Interlace Consecutive Frames
Converts pairs of consecutive progressive‑scan (noninterlaced) frames into interlaced fields. This option is useful for converting 60‑fps progressive‑scan animations into 30‑fps interlaced video because many animation applications don’t create interlaced frames.
Always Deinterlace
Converts interlaced fields into whole progressive‑scan frames. Adobe Premiere Elements deinterlaces by discarding one field and interpolating a new field based on the lines of the remaining field. It keeps the field specified in the Field Settings option in the Project Settings. If you specified No Fields, Adobe Premiere Elements keeps the upper field unless you selected Reverse Field Dominance, in which case it keeps the lower field. This option is useful when freezing a frame in the clip.
Flicker Removal
Prevents thin horizontal details in an image from flickering by slightly blurring the two fields together. An object as thin as one scan line flickers because it can appear only in every other field.
Good luck,
Hunt

• Why does firefox time out so often? slows down my working

Why does firefox time out so often. I can be in the middle of something and it just stops. did it as I am trying to write this note. very frustrating! It either times out or freezes. the former happens more often. I can be on the web or on yahoo mail.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 255 to a setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

• If I put the iMovie library on an external drive over a USB 2.0 connection, will it slow down work within a project?

I'm running out of internal disk space on my iMac. I want to move the iMovie (10.0.8) library over to an external disk that has only a USB 3.0 connection. But my iMac has only USB 2.0 ports. When iMovie operates, does it load a project into memory, and do all the work there, or does it bang on the library often while I'm working on the project, so that it would slow down project work? I have a hunch that it does frequent saves during work automatically to disk, which would slow things down a lot.

External disk speed is quite important especially if you have limited RAM since less can be transferred to memory and more has to be read and written back to disk. Your disk will run at USB 2 speed which is not fast but should work. (A Firewire 800 disk would have been better assuming your Mac has this). If you haven't already, update your RAM to the maximum.
Geoff.

• InDesign slowing down (MacPro)

Hello. In some events, InDesign (6.0.2) slows down when working with text. This happens with various typefaces (e.g. Adobe Pro fonts), on single or few pages, a couple of styles, some text wrap, justified text, nothing fancy, no line art, very few images, typical display performance, newly installed 10.5.7, all other apps running smoothly with the 3G ram I have. Slow means: I try highlight one word by double clicking it with the type tool. Application beachballs me for 25 secs. Then I go cmd-. (increase point size), or opt-cmd-right arrow, beachball 45 secs. Etc.
This is not exactly repeatable. Restarting the app doesn't necessarily help. Any ideas? Specific tests?
Thanks a lot.

Dear Peter,
just to catch you up on this problem. I did speak to an Adobe person, and his opinion was that the slowdown was related to a corruption in the document file, and not InDesign.
I'm also sorry to say that the Adobe tech support person couldn't understand my statement that it could have been a corrupted master page.
He asked me to quit InDesign. He also had me throw away (from Hard Drive—Library—Application Support—Adobe—SING—Mark II, a folder called "datastore") the "datastore" folder, which regenerated itself when I relaunched InDesign.
I went into my document and changed the master pages for the problematic articles (this was a journal), and all seems to be working ok. It seemed to be a corrupted master page, a problem I've actually had before, but I don't know how that happens. I just lacked the energy to try to get him to understand the master page corruption problem.
Thanks for your help.

• How to slow down FCPX titles in motion?

In FCPX I can slow down the tiles motions by dragging the tiles out.
But that does not always help.
So I try to use Motion to slow down the typing tile in FCPX. I get it to work by doing this:
But in FCPX the clip is too long. The speed is ok, and the text in the title behaves beautiful, but when the motion text is finished typing the clips is still too long and empty.
By shortening it by dragging it will of course effect the speed of the typing again.
Guide anyone?

• Muse Slows Down on Large Blocks of Text

Hi...
I'm a new user to using Adobe Muse 2.3 (trial version) so forgive me if this has been answered before. I'm having big problems when I insert large blocks of text, I have tried both cut and pasting and placing text in Muse but when I do Muse seems to slow down to almost a crawl. When I try to add more text by typing the text seems to "lag" onto the screen instead of appearing straight away, also adding styles I have made to the text takes longer than it should and in some cases I get a muse "not responding" message in the titlebar. The muse file itself is only 720k so not very big in size and I have 8GB of ram so I don't think that's the problem, it's only text after all.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?, it's really annoying because it virtually makes the program un-useable and I cannot continue with my project.
Thank you in advance for any answers or information you can give me.

Thank you for the reply, since text is "content" there really should not be any reason why it can't handle long blocks of text. I pasted in a block of text that contained over 1k+ words. This is a site I'm working on for someone else, it's for quite a technical peice of software and he wants the use and operation information on the website. I explained it would be probably best suited in a pdf or help file but he insists hence the long blocks of text. I updated Adobe AIR and flash and that has made a slight difference but still the performance isn't that great.
I will try and break up the text into text boxes to see if it will help but this seems to be an inefficient way of doing things. I'm hoping that Muse will have some optimisations for longer text flows in future.
Thank you.

• How can I make slow motion work in iMovie 10.0.2?

Is there a way to make effects such as slow motion work in iMovie 10.0.2 (OSX 10.9.2)? In Modify drop down, Slow Motion is black, but the speed options are grayed out. Same with Fast Forward, Instant Replay, and Rewind. Anyone know why some capabilities were delted with the new versions of iMovie?

Jim,
The menu options (slo mo, fast wd, instant replay, rewind) are black; however, once I select one of these, all the speed options are gray and ineffective. Right click of a clip does not have a "show speed editor." And I am working in the timeline and not the event browser. Any other suggestions? Do we both have the same version (10.0.2)?
Thanks

• IPhone 4s cover flow slow down and jerky help

Hi all
i have copied my music over from my backup 3GS to iPhone 4s but in cover flow it is very very jerky and not as smooth at all, my 3gs is way smoother an much better than on the iphone 4s it even has problems loading the covers up as there is a delay in doing so as it seems to b slow
whats happend there not as good as my 3GS
So i tried to remove all songs and turned off the iPhone and powered the phone back up and put the music back on and its still jerky and not as smooth what the hells going on this phone should breeze through cover flow view
My 3GS is still on iOS 4 does anyon have the same problems ? Try to scroll fast and it just jerks and slows down but like I say not on the 3gs
Any help

Hi, I have the same problem with my 4s. After reading all the suggestion on this and simmilar forums I checked my picture files assigned to my albums. I selected in iTunes an album, then right click to get pop up menu, selected "get info. Then I went to artwork, copied it (right click, copy), then I copied the picture to picture editor to see the properties. I noticed that some of my pictures assigned to albums are huge, something like 2000 x 2000 pix.
When I repliced them with smaller ones, i.e. max 600 x 600, everything become smoth. Now my cover flow work perfectly as it should be. Definitly ther must be something wrong with iOS5 because before I did not notice such a problem on 3GS of 4 model, even I had the big picture assigned to the album

• Video slows down after adding text

hello, would appreciate any pointers to solve my problem.....every time i add text to my video project, the video will play very slowly (jerks) until the text ends.
this never happened before as my previous projects ran smoothly even with transitions and text.
anything i can change to fix this? i have not installed any new apps, now notice any slow down of any other application that i use.
thanks.

I also experienced the same problem, regardless of long or short movies... I'm sure you are also experiencing this issue on your preview screens (both small and full screen).
Here's what I did... I just went ahead and exported the movie to media browser and iTunes. I tried playing back on iTunes and it works perfectly. I also tried burning the movie onto DVD and it works perfectly.
Bottomline, just go ahead and export the movie, then burn it onto DVD or whatever your preference is, and you should be fine.
I'm working on another project now, and it's doing the same thing again. But, I'm not really worried anymore because I'm pretty sure it'll be alright once exported.

• CS5 and 6 slow down issue - was working fine

Hi Everyone
Hoping you can help as i've tried pretty much everything I can think of to resolve this. I've been running CS5.5 production premium for a while now, powerful PC, everything was running fast and working great.
Now, all of a sudden Photoshop keeps slowing down to a crawl - im talking massive slow down, the mouse cursor doesnt even move properly. No hardware has changed, and no major software changes, all CS5 is up to date. All my other CS programs (after effects, illustrator etc) are working fine. Tried re-installing CS5, I also installed the PS CS6 trial to see if that works, but it also suffers from the same slow down issue.
So if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them! Before I have to do a complete clean install of the whole system.
Thanks
Jack

More details on your set-up might be helpful.
Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

• Published motion template slows down FCPX

Hi, I have published a simple snow effect made in Motion 5 to FCPX. Every time I try to add the effect to a clip in FCPX, it slows down everything and I get the beach ball spinning. If I switch off the effect everything goes back to normal. What is the deal? Ant suggestions?
One more thing, I have an Imac 10.6.8 early 2010 2.8 i7 8gb. FCPX uses all the ram available when rendering, etc. I thought that you need only 4gb as minimum req. Do I need more ram? I just use it for simple videos, I'm not a pro, but at times it gets really annoying when the imac slows down.
Thanks,
Andrea

It depends on what the Motion template is doing. If it's doing a lot of work, which is very easy to make a Motion project do, it will grind things down. The minimum specs of FCP X are for doing minimum work. I'd never touch FCP X, and especially Motion 5 with anything less than 8GB RAM. But more important is the graphics card you're running. What card are you running?
