Text looks terrible!

I just got my new Mac Pro up and running and I'm finding that when I use text (either imported from LiveType or text in FCP) the lettering looks terrible. Very pixelated. I've tried rendering it but that doesn't help. Right now I'm only looking at it on my Cinema Display, but even so, it should look clean, shouldn't it?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Jamie

Set your viewer and canvas windows to 100%. Right now they are most likely at Fit to window. You are only viewing one field and anything other than 100%.
You do this at the view menu top of either viewer or canvas, depending on which window you are using, and it is the left button of a group of three buttons in the center of the window.

  • Text looking terrible in InDesign document...

I am running into an issue putting together a marketing report for my work. The small photo caption text (frutiger light size 8) looks terrible when I PDF it.
But in addition to it looking terrible when I pdf it, it also looks terrible in the InDesign document if I get too close to an image.
I have tried putting all the text on a separate layer that is on top of everything else (including anything that is a transparency).
The body text (which is frutiger regular size 9) looks totally fine.
I do have transparencies on my pages but I have to because my boss likes us to have drop shadows when we show sample document pages.
How can I fix this? The proposal document is going to be delivered digitally, so even if it prints ok that wont work because most likely it will only be viewed on screen.
These images show how the text changes depending on how close or far away I get.

Does it look bad in the PDF on screen only or also when printed on a high resolution device?
If the text is above all transparent objects than it is not a transparency flattening problem, although you did not tell us anything about your PDF export settings.
If it looks good on high resolution print but bad on screen only it might be an issue of the used font only. To be honest, on your screen shot I don't see the problem here what you mentioned. Could you link your problematic INDD and PDF here. Not the original file, it understnd that it is not possible for you, but a small file where you reconstruct this problem with a placeholder image and blind text, one page only to keep things small.

  • Text from Photoshop to iWeb looks terrible

    Hi
I am creating a website in iWeb and want to use a non web-safe font. I thought I could create the text in Photoshop and then drag it into iWeb as an image. I have Photoshop PS4 and am simply dragging and dropping the text from PS to iWeb. No matter what I do, the text looks terrible in iWeb. I've tried a couple of different things - rasterizing, anti-alias - but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know if this is a problem with iWeb or Photoshop. Anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!
    Melody

don't know if this is a problem with iWeb or Photoshop.
    Neither.
Save the image as a tiff, png or eps file.
Then drag that image on the iWeb canvas.

  • Text looks horrible and blocky when imported into DVD SP

Why is it that all my text looks terrible when I import it from Photoshop into DVD Studio Pro for a still menu? The font size is 20pt, and the text type is Franklin Gothic, a sans serif Helvetica variation that is extremely simple and basic. Why does it look so bad? Is it the layers? The field dominance? The pixel aspect ratio? I've asked around and many people simply say "dvd studio pro does that sometimes." What? That's not seriously the bottom line is it? What if I don't want to redesign my whole menu?
I posted an example of how the text looks...

Try this one...there isn't a solution, it is a confirmed bug in the software. Check out the thread above, I included an e-mail address and issue i.d. so you can write a message letting them know that I'm not the only one having this problem...
The same issue affects the normal way of creating slideshows as well as still menus. The workaround is to create a menu that loops at around :30. However, at the loop point the text will go jagged for a second while it loops back to the beginning. So, it's not a perfect workaround.

  • PDF exports look terrible - white lines in text

I have been u sing indesign for years and years all of the sudden my pdf exports look terrible. The images are pixelated and the text has white lines
    in it.
I used these pdf previews for my clients and I certainly cant use what Im getting from INDD right now. I have no idea what happened to cuase this.
Wish I could show you but any ideas would be great.
The following text has no formatting on it yet there are pixelated white lines? help?
    Thanks in advance.

Wow - thank you for all the responses. Yes it still happened with different fonts, different sizes of font etc... So I looked at my export settings and noticed that it was set to High Quality Print - Modified. I Switched it back to High Quality Print and it appear to have cleaned it up quite a bit.
Thank you all for your speedy responses.

How did you transfer it to the PC?
Not good to export as a Word .doc/x, better to:

  • Text looks great in AE but terrible in Premiere Pro.

I am creating titles in After Effects for a video production in Premiere Pro, the titles look lovely and crisp in After Effects but when I import them to Premiere Pro they look terrible and blurry. How can I get them to look as sharp as they did in After Effects?

Hi, I'm using Premiere Pro CC and AE CC and am using the Dynamic Link to import the AE files into Premiere.
The PP sequence is 2 hours long and was shot at 720, it is still in the editing stage so have not rendered the full thing yet. I did try to render out a small section to see if the text got sharper but it didn't, and to be very honest I'm not sure what the best render settings are so have been using the H.264 YouTube 720 preset.....perhaps that is not the best but I am new to this and am learning as I go.
I have tried making the AE file much bigger and then resizing in PP to see if that helped, but that didn't work either.
My apologies for not giving the required info at the outset.

  • Why does the web look TERRIBLE on my new Retina display?

The new retina display is fantastic, but browsing the web looks horrible.  Can anything be done to improve the web browsing experience?

Most websites are designed to look good on low end computers, typically with a resolution of around 1024x768.
Our retina macbooks have such a high resolution display that they basically show the flaws you would not normally see on a low resolution display.Text that is rendered using the mac os system fonts should look beautiful, but low resolution pictures and non-native text will look terrible on any website or application.
There is no real fix for this issue, other than hoping the web in general starts moving to higher resoltuion content in the future. The same problem exists with the retina iPad, and in my opinion, things look even worse on the ipad since you tend to be zoomed in further while browsing the web.

  • Red Highlight state text looks like garbage

I have a project that my client wants to have his text highlighted in red. The font used is fairly broad and clean (no sarifs) but when in highlight state which is red it looks terrible. Its almost like its not covering the whole white text behind it. I've tried making my own overlay menus in photoshop to fix the issue but it looks worse. Is there a trick to this? I don't have this problem with any other color.

If you have done it with other colors (same overlay) probably does not mean there is an aspect issue, otherwise I would say that is what is happening (when you said it is not covering I thought you may meant shifting.)
If it is shifting then check your workflow for the overlay (did you use Photoshop preet for the ratio?)
If it is not that shift it may be bacause of the colors used in the overlay/mapping out over the background. Did you render all effects and text? If there a way to post an image to see what is going on?

  • My text looks bad!

I wonder if any one can help me on what is probably a really basic understanding of the programme. When ever I make text in live type and then put it into Final Cut Pro, it looks rubbish! Its week and faded and just looks terrible. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

    big Horse,
You really can't judge the quality of your Live Type graphic is you are looking at it on your computer. Pleasse refer to the following:
    Shane's Stock Answer #2:
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline

DV footage requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.

You can't scale movies if you want to maintain the text. The
    only way to keep it
neat is to scale it up, never down.

  • Text looks blurred on Samsung display

    Hi,
So, I have just gotten a Samsung SyncMaster TA550 for Christmas. I have it connected to my MBP13 mid-2012 (2,5GHz i5, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000) with a HDMI cable and a Dr. Bott HDMI & DVI to Mini Displayport adapter.
The display looks absolutely fabulous as long as watch videos, but text looks like crap, all blurry, and gives me headaches, not matter if it's text I'm currently writing (in pages or online) or the song list in iTunes for example. The problem is: I mainly wanted to use this display for writing. Also the bars in pretty much every programme I've used so far have this strange grey blur to them.
I'll attach screencaps of both text and video on the screen. You'll see the grey blur in the safari window.
I toyed around with resolutions and practically all the display settings in OS X and the display itself - nothing worked. It looks slightly better when I change to 720p instead of 1080p or 1080i using underscan to fill the display, but that's not what we want, right?
Currently it's set back to "Best for display" and a 60 hertz refresh rate.
I thought that maybe the adapter (which wasn't a particularly expensive one) might be the problem, so I have now ordered a HDMI to Mini Displayport cable that had good reviews online. It might take a few days for that one to arrive though, and I was hoping that maybe I could solve the problem without having to use that one.
I hope you'll be able to help me, cause honestly, this is getting annoying.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sabrina
Strangely the screencap looks good on my MBP's LCD...

I have been switching from PC to MAC for the last couple years. One of the last bones was my desktop computer which had a SAMSUNG 29'' HD monitor.
Last friday I bought a MAC MINI and connected it to the Samsung thru HDMI. I had almost a breakdown when I realized the blurry text from the OS X against the crisp and bright text from the Windows machine. I started to investigate without any luck until I came across this post. Thank you MissKillALot, you save my day! Finally now I have a monitor working like it should, and no more PCs at home!!!
P.S. No wonder people keep ditching Samsung equipment: For the HDMI - DVI PC port to work properly you have to "RENAME" the port from HDMI to DVI PC. Rename? Who thinks that by "renaming" some port it will actually change its properties? Is this on purpose to annoy the user?

  • External monitor on MacBook Air looks terrible, recommendations?

I'm a software developer and I want to be able to connect an external monitor to my MacBook Air 11".  The Apple store guy recommended a Belkin adaptor so I can connect my HDMI input devices.  The connection works, but even at 1080p resolution, there are jagged edges and the text looks horrible.  I tried an ASUS monitor and also my Samsung TV.  It looks fine when using my Windows 7 computer.  Is the adaptor no good? Is there a setting to turn on? What am I doing wrong?

  • External Monitor looks terrible

I recently got ahold of two monitors, both DVI, to hook up to my 12 inch PowerBook for my setup at work.
On both of them I attempted to run as a mirrored displays as well as an extended desktop. I can verify that at least one of the monitors is high-quality and gives a nice crisp picture when attached to any other machine.
However the image coming from the PowerBook is pretty abysmal. The edges are dull, the colors are washed out and I'm really unimpressed with the picture.
I bought the 12" PowerBook because of the portability and because evetually I knew I would want to use it with a larger screen. Is this not the case?
    Any ideas?

I've tried different profiles as well as calibrating.
    They all look terrible.
It isn't an issue of the colors being off, it primarily has to do with the clarity of the picture. Both of these monitors I KNOW are capable of a better picture than they have with the PowerBook.
