Text Macros

I thought I knew where InCopy saves the text macros (C:\Users\myuseraccount\AppData\Local\Adobe\InCopy\Version 9.0\en_US\Caches), based on information I got from an Adobe tech working with us on DPS, but when I copy that whole folder to another user's computer the macros do not show up.
So evidently that is not the correct location where the macros are saved; does anyone know the correct location? And why doesn't InCopy have a way to share the macros or is there a way since multiple people are working on the same document and you think everyone having the same macros would be something just as common as a fish having gills.
Thanks in advance!
Michael

No, the Caches folder is just for temp files.
InCopy macros, saved find/change queries, glyph sets, Word import Presets and the like are all in the User's InCopy Preferences folder. The fastest way to get there is to right-click on the User folder in the Scripts panel (Window > Utilities > Scripts) and choose Reveal in Explorer from the contextual menu. That will bring you to your user account's InCopy Preferences > Scripts folder, and the "InCopy Text Macros" file is at the same level as that Scripts folder.

  • Incopy: Text Macros not working from machine to machine, same template

    Hello there - Merry Christmas!
This is my first post as I have exhausted my troubleshooting on an issue within Incopy CS4, version 6.06, Text Macro's.
I have a template that is shared by all users on similar windows XP machines. I could go into more detail if needed here but here's the problem in a nutshell:
I have a nested style, added as a text macro in Incopy, that goes something like this:
    USER NAME >>>> SHIFT+ENTER
    [email protected]
    Screenshots and further explanation below.
I add this as a text macros, keep text attributes, apply a key combo and I'm off. Or so I think.
When I apply the style in the same shared template on one machine - which for all intensive purposes looks the same as another machine (setup, application, fonts), applying the text macro gives the correct style (in layout mode), no missing fonts.
However, on another machine, the macro is applied, go into layout view and it shows the text with the "missing" font pink highlight indicator.
If I apply the style without the macro, the style works in layout mode - no missing font.
I have checked all the settings in Incopy and made sure they are the same on both machines, I have reinstalled the application (InCopy), and uninstalled and reinstalled all fonts on both machines to ensure they are identical.
I have no idea at this point why on one machine the text macros works and on another it does not.
Any insight would be so truly appreciated!
    Cheers & Thank you.

Since you have allowed all macros, the problem appears to be that the macros are not available.
I noticed in your screencast that the screentip for one of the macros read Normal.NewMacros.Indent. That indicates that the macro should be found in your default template Normal.dotm. For another, the screentip was Project.NewMacros.Bold or something like
that. That makes me suspect the macro is NOT in Normal.dotm
From Word, press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
You'll see the Project Explorer on the left hand side. In the screenshot above, you see that my Normal template has one module, named basCode. The macros in this module are globally available in Word.
Check whether you can find macros in your Normal template, under Modules. Double-click a module to see its contents.

  • Text Macro

I am looking for a way to enter repeated text using an Fkey. I think Keyboard Maestro might do this but am not sure. Any help will be appreciated.
    Rachael

I use the freeware Spark for inserting text and for other keyboard macros. Works great. If you use and like it, a donation to the developer would be a nice gesture.

  • Possible to scan a document into Acrobat XPro,then replace part of that PDF with text or image file?

    Hi everyone,
Is it possible first to  scan a paper document into Acrobat X Pro, and then to replace a "pane" or box within that PDF with a text or image file?
Would it require  SDK and Javascript?
    Thanks,
    Rick Weinhaus

    CtDave and others:
Here's the problem in more detail.
I am a physician and I already have the ability to incorporate paper-based
documents into an electronic health record (EHR) by scanning them and
saving them as PDFs.  The documents are paper patient encounter forms with
a different box or 'pane' for each category of data.   Each box has a fixed
    location on the paper form.
There are three situations, however, where I want to have the option to
overwrite certain boxes of the PDF with data generated by methods other
    than scanning.
    1) Insert text macros with variable fields using the electronic health
    record's software.
    2) Insert a drawing available as a pre-existing JPG or generated by using a
    tablet.
    3) Insert text generated using Dragon Naturally Speaking.
For efficient office workflow, in all three cases the text or image to be
inserted into the box or 'pane' in the PDF needs to be generated while I am
still seeing the patient -- that is -- before the paper form has been
scanned and converted to a PDF.
The sticky note tool is one option, but I would want to be able to modify
the default size of the sticky note so that it corresponded exactly to the
size of the box it was 'overwriting.'  I can't figure out how to do this?
Could it be done using scripting?
Furthermore, I would want the sticky notes to automatically display when
the PDF was opened, so that a hover would close rather than open them.  This
sticky note method would have the advantage of allowing the user to toggle
back and forth between inserted data and any original handwritten text.
    Any thoughts?
    Rick

  • Can I export macro lists using scripting?

I work at a business newspaper and we create a index of all company names at the end of each edition. However, in order to make the process of confirming uniformity between company names in the index and company names as they appear in a story it would be nice to export a text macro list to our network so that all reporters could use the same code for, let's say" "Example Co." Is this possible using scripting?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
You should export the data of the 8i database using the *8i* export utility.
Then, you import the generated dump to the 10g database with the *10g* import utility.
Else, you may care of the character set so as to avoid conversion.
Sorry Azar, I didn't see that you answered already.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

We put all the accessories together and boot up to check further detail on GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS version! The display quality is vivid.
Let’s take a look on the detail spec., 384GB SSD Super RAID, Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, top level GTX880M 8GB GDDR5 graphics, 32GB RAM. It’s all top level and could use for 3 more years of ultra-quality games!
When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

    Keyboard:         ★★★★★★★★★☆
    Online speed:         ★★★★★★★★★☆
    Price Range:         ★★★★★★★★☆

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • MSI GS60 Ghost Pro Golden Edition - A Combination of Stylish and High Performance.

I have no idea who can say no to this shining and charming beauty....
    The BackStory
When I studied at graduate school, I bought my first laptop, Asus F3J, of my life and brought it to school everyday. Actually it was a 2.9kg around laptop for gaming and I felt like carry a heavy brick. It was quite inconvient and kind of suffer for a person like me who was not doing fitness. After I graduated from school and was being a member of society, I decided to find a  laptop that was much lighter and easier to bright to work. Toshiba R830 was what I chose, but this time, the performance of playing some hardcore game wasn’t good enough since it doesn’t have a discrete graphics card.
I started to believe there is a trade off between perforamnce and weight of laptop with these two experience. Until one day, I came across with MSI GS60 Ghost Pro at Computex 2014, it was a notebook weigh just around 2kg and uncompromising with high performance. In more detail, It had core I7 CPU、High-end GTX graphics card and two 256MB SSD within it. From that day, I know it is the notebook am looking for, it is a note book I can bring to work and also play game at home. Furthermore, MSI is going to issue the limited Golden edition of it around the end of year, it gave me one more reason to buy this “good stuff”, because both me and my girl think gold is the most fashion color in recent year, just like iphone. So that is the backstory, now i just have the golden one and is going to unbox it for you.

    The Unboxing
It is a really big one, please do drive your car while buying this NB from the shop.
Inside the main brown shipping box, there are MSI stylish back bag and the a black branded carry case.
The back back is grey color with good material quality, it also a simple and fashion design which is suitable for young or stylish worker. The sense of touch is also good.
There are several layers inside the bag, even more, a shock-absorbing laptop sleeve in it. What a surprise!!
In the big black branded carry case. There are two black box, one is for accessory. One is for the main role “GS60” with sponge to protect it as you can see in the photo.
Let see the accessory box first, a MSI gaming mouse、a MSI/SteelSeries Flux headset、a keyboard protector and a mouse pad.
The mouse has red light shining on both side when it connect to the laptop. It’s really a gaiming stuff! We can also see the double braided cord that improved the durability.
As “+” and “-“ these buttons in the middle of the mouse, user can adjust the sensity of the mouse instantly by these two bottons in the game. No need to waste your time finding the adjument UI within the game. It is such a good benefit for a gamer.
The Flux headset has ear cushions with mesh-cloth material it let you feel comfortable when wear it. You also can find out the color of the shell beside the headset can be changed, one pair is MSI design in red color, the other one is pure black one.
It also has a convenient design that the earmuff can be folded, in order to make the headset into a plat one and easy to put in your bag.
The performance of the headset is high-end and highs that don’t get brittle. About the deep bass, it also quite stunning. Overall, it can make the music carry listener’s heart.
It deserves you to put it on the top of your gaming headset list.
Here we open another black box, the GS60 is packaging by the non-woven cloth.
There are also the power adaptor、power cord and mini displayport to D-sub cable.
By the way, the power adapter is 25.53 mm thick and 0.52kg. weigh, 19.5V and 7.7A output.
Moreover, there are instruction manuals、several driver CDs and even two military dog tag with MSI logo, actually I am not a military lover, so I am going to use them as a key ring but not to hang on my neck.
Finally, let us see a royal-like GS60 Ghost Pro Golden…
Using Mg-Li alloy as the material, its chasis gains the advantage of both ultra-light and solid.
According to MSI official website, the idea of design comes from the stealth fighter, so it shows dynamic streamline in its design. Beside the visual effect, it makes you feel comfortable when typing due to the slimmer front edge and solid palm rest. The high gloss finish and bright gold will reflect light, so it change color slightly in different lighting condition. Overall, it delivery supreme visual treat.
To see a more apparent golden color, I put it on my sofa with yellow background.
    Shinging and charming….
The fancy muscle curve and hire line surface make it elegant and gorgeous.
The shield and the MSI logo, they are delicated design without roughness.
The black color keycap contrast with the golden chasis apparently.
The touchpad looks cool as well, the material it made let the surface being anti-skidding and you wont leave your fingerprint on it.
It has Dynaudio speaker and Steelseries keyboard these two famous brand as it high-end equipment. 4 channel speakers and comfortable tactile keyboard. Moreover, the Graphics card it equiped is GTX 970M,
One of the lastest high-end Nvidia GTX graphics card. It is the first gaming notebook to equip GTX 970M .No doubt MSI regard themselves as the leader brand of gaming.
    Sound Blaster Cinema 2+Dyanudio, Bravo~~
Let’s check the connectivity of this beauty.
No ports but seried of cooling vents at the rear panel,in order to let air flow and palm rest feeling.
    being better.
The left side of it located the microphone (line out) and headphone (line in) jack, two USB 3.0 ports, the power connector socket and a security port. Also the vent close to the rear panel. The metal golden jack can isolate much more noice and enhance the reality of music as not being distortion.
The right side of GS60 located an USB 3.0 port, card reader, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI port, and GB LAN (RJ45). GS60 Ghost Pro can support 2 external moniotr with mini display and HDMI port. When playing PRG game, you can use the main one to play game, the other one can show a walkthrough. The last one, you can even use skype or outlook to connect others.
The front side you can see the LED to show some fuction status. Such as the battary status and bloothtooth has been turned on or not..etc.
From bottom of this notebook you can see the battery is not removable, I guess the idea probably come from iphone. In fact, I seldomly remove the battery when I using a laptop, unless it really heavy to carry. But this time, GS60 is not heavy, so it wont be a problem to me.
I used the scaler to measure the actual weight and ruler to see how thin it is, the result cames out 19.95mm thin and 2.1kg weight. Is it really a gaming machine I used to think of?! Such an ultra-book style.
As I know, all the gaming notebook used to be black and silver color, there are few gaming notebook with others color. MSI this time has find its way to make a breakthrough. Of course, the creative thinking and the adventurous action is what we need in gaming world!!
In a word, as you can see from the picture above ,the metallic feel of it is so attractive!!It is the most stylish and creative gaming notebook I have ever seen.
All of above are the unboxing of hardware part.let’ talk about some function and feature of this treasure.
Dragan Gaming Center which is preinstalled in this MSI laptop. With this application, you can monitor the status of the important elements in the system. You can also quick start a game or an utility through it.
Fn+F7="Shift", according to the official website, the key can be used to change the mode of the notebook in 3 status, the default "Sport"mode、"Comfort" mode and "Green mode", it is a adjustment function to control the CPU and GPU workload in order to balance the performance and temperature
Use "Shift" to switch the mode you prefer.
Green- System locks both GPU and CPU chip temp.
Comfort- System locks GPU chip temp and dynamic adjusts the GPU chip temp
Sport- Defaut and without any control.
I am not afraid about the high temperature and noise from fans, so I like to use the default one, Sport mode~
If you are playing a game in the library, please do choose Green mode to keep the fan from being busy.
The "Shift" is MSI exclusive function, the idea comes from the shifting gear in automobile.
Here comes another interesting feature, which is called Killer Double Shot Pro.With this function,
the GB LAN and Wireless LAN act like combined togather and user can acquire the bandwith from both.
    Killer Netwok Manager UI
This network technology also offers you a smooth background when playing game, because you can set the gaming applications as higher priority to use the bandwith than others. What a bravo feature!!
The highest resolution of GS60 Ghost Pro is 2880*1620 which is also called 3K,
as you can see from the screenshot below, when playing game you gain much more visual delight.
With the HDMI and mini display output, you can enjoy a 1+2 matrix display function.
With the XSplit Gamecaster preintalled in GS60, you can share your game just in time through live streaming while playing it. however, I won't use this function because I don't wanna share my skill to the others, hahaha~~
The Steal Series Engine, it is my favorite. You can set the keypress macro、text macro or lauch application just in one key. For example, while playing Leaque of Legend, we always need to press Q、W、E、R、T
immediately, but with keypress macro function, you can trigger them just in one key. Quite convient, isn't it?
You can also choose the color you want for the keyboard backlit with Steal Series Egine. This function shows the gaming feature indeed.
That's see the multi-color backlit of it. What a show off!!!
Below is the hardware information showed by Nvidia Experience UI and GPU Z
    GeForce GTX 970M with DDR5 3G and I7-4710HQ!!
    I can't wait to see the 3D MARK 11 P score...
Here it got P9272 at sport mode. Outstanding!!
For 3D MARK Fire Strike, it got 6515 at sport mode. I have to say that GS60 Ghost Pro punches above its weight.
The result of Valley Benchmark 1.0 is below, score 1560 and FPS is 37.3.
Testing the Call of duty Ghost with FRAPS, while play the game, it goes smoothly and the fps showed at top-left is around 100~200. As you can see the delicated scenery and character there, it seems like act in the reality.
The sequencial read of these two SSD is 1022MB/s, it features from the Super RAID technology. Applying the RAID 0 technical usually used in server into SSD to make the IOPS much better.
Take a look at its outward appearance again, bring it oudoor to see its color under natural light.
    Fantastic~~
I would like to say, the GS60 Ghost Pro Golden is Lamborghini in gaming laptop!! It will be all the rage.

This year, GTX970M performance is even better than 880M, with GS60's slim design, I can only say the advance of technology is so amazing!!!

  • How do I create a "form email"?

I have a couple standard emails I send out for my job.   I made up a form mail that I can just fill in some info and send.   I know I can save it as a draft but as soon as I open it and make changes the draft is gone.  Mail gave me the option to save it as stationery but I can't find the email in the folder or any folder.  I suppose I could cut and past it into a pages document but I was hoping I could save it in a way I could open it in mail, revise, and send it, easily. Does anyone have any idea where it was saved and how I can open it?

    Nothing's perfect.
I've also been a mac guy since 1984. I have underwear that is older than the kids that work at the mac store.
My 2 cents: PC's still suck way, way, way more than macs. When I try to use a PC at work, it makes me want to kill myself, even when it isn't crashing. The current Mac OS does many orders of magnitude more than the OS's did way back when. And sometimes errors creep in. Mostly due to third party software. But these problems are usually fixable.
If you'd like to fix it here's a suggestion:
go to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences and find a file called com.apple.mail.plist and drag it to the trash, and then restart.
(the Library file in ~/ is hidden- to access it, you hold down the option key and go to the Go menu in the Finder).
I bet that will fix the problem. You'll have to reenter your mail preferences.
Also there are a couple of other ways to do this that you might like.
You could use automator with applescript, or QuicKeys Startly - QuicKeys 4 for Mac OS X , to save some text macros that you could just enter with a hotkey or a service; or you could use a bulk mailing program like MaxBulk Mailer Maxprog | MaxBulk Mailer, bulk emailer software and mail-merge tool for Mac OS and Windows to have some predefined emails. I use both methods.
If you'd rather do your cut and paste, then that's up to you. Thanks.

  • SteelSeries Engine is really a fantastic gaming tool!

I just got a GT60 gaming laptop with SteelSeries Engine, and this feature is really fantastic!
We could setup macros for different games with about 74 keys, others only got 10~20 keys.
We could setup keypress macros, text macros, launch program control, and disable this key.
We could have 4 layers of keyboard for 4 usages or 4 types of games macros, others cannot.
We could setup 4 kinds of backlit style with 4 layers keyboard.

the delay editing is also a terrific function which is easy to fine tune and "human-like" macro key-in.
I believe there is few bundled software in the market can support function like that.

  • An old time Windows user in a Mac world ...

As you can guess, I just got my first iMac, and wow, what a beauty! The interface and new way of doing things took me about ... 5 hours to get use to, but I find the simplest tasks in Apple to be the hardest. I know some of these questions may be duplicate, but I would really appreciate your patients as I have never felt like such a noobie in my life
    1) Networking: Im running a iMac and 2 Vista machines on a Wireless network. After struggling for quite some time, I finally got it to work, but the connection is VERY sloppy, and cannot stay connected for long. Is this a standard thing between the 2 os's or am I doing something wrong? Is there a tutorial somewhere which will explain step by step on how to share and keep the connection alive between MacOS 10.6 and Vista? I can still connect to the router and the internet, but thats where it ends. It appears that everytime i restart I get to connect again, but only for about 15 or so minutes then it looses the connection and I cant connect again.
    2) Special keys: Now this appears to be quite a suprise. In SA we use a number of special keys e.g. the ^ of a e and dubble dots on a e, and I know in windows the shortcodes for these are alt+136 and alt+137. Can someone advise me on how it works in MacOS?
    3) Permissions: Probably the MOST frustrating thing so far is that it would appear that my external hard drives which was formatted and primary used in windows only has read permissions when connected to a macOS machine. I can copy all items from it, but cannot copy to it or do any modifications to any files on it. How do I set the permissions on these hard drives in Snow?
This is it for now, I thank you in advance.

Your Windows drives are formatted NTFS which is most likely why they appear to be read-only. SL's support for NTFS read/write is somewhat sketchy, but see this discussion and read the post from Q__Q near the end of the thread.
Otherwise you will need third-party software to write to an NTFS formatted drive. If you search the forums for NTFS you will find plenty of references. Also search VersionTracker or MacUpdate for "ntfs" to find third-party software. I don't know if it works with SL at this time.
Open the Language & Text preferences and click on the Input tab. Check the box for the Keyboard and Character Palette. Check the bottom right box to show the input menu in the menubar. You can then locate whatever font or other characters you wish to enter into your text. In the Text tab of the same preferences you can also make text substitutions. You can also use a third-party text macro expander such as TextExpander, TypeIt4Me, or Typinator to assign characters to a keyboard macro or inline macro.
Not sure I can help with your network problems, but what you might try is opening Network preferences and verifying your configuration. Also verify your File Sharing configuration. In Network preferences you might try setting the Configure IPv6 drop down menu to OFF. Problems may also arise from the type of router you are using. Be sure its firmware has been updated. You can also try removing network preference files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder then reconfiguring your Network setup.

  • IDCS3. updating prepress dept from Quark4 to CS3

ok, I've been tasked with updating our prepress dept from Quark 4.1 on mac classic to CS3 on PCs. there are two Mac systems with both Quark 4.1 and CS2. and One PC with Quark 7 and CS3. the rest will have just ID.
There are two features that the prepress dept asked me about and I didn't know the answer. We have some plugins in Quark for Spelling (not an issue with ID), Stored Verses(can ID do this?), and a Verify feature.
Stored verses would be so the typist can just type abc123 and get a full paragraph of test. which is helpfull when typing the same thing over and over.
The verify feature is a little tricky. Typist 1 will type the document then save it. Typist 2 will load the document then blind type it. the typist just types the text and the computer will let the typist know if the chareter was right or wrong. This feature insures that they check each word is right, and there aren't any spelling mistakes or wording mistakes that they didn't catch.
any help would be great. Thank you very much.

You're referring to text macros if I understand correctly. This feature
is found in InCopy but not InDesign.

  • Question for all programmers who use Xcode

    Hi,
What style of indenting do you use?
    1)<pre>
    int myFunc(int num){
    //some code
    }</pre>
    2)<pre>
    int myFunc(int num)
    //some code
    }</pre>
I uses style 2, but I cannot get Xcode 2.4 to properly indent nested braces. Here is an example:
    <pre>
    class Test
    public:
    Test()
    int x = 0;
    while(x < 10)
    { <font color="2200cc"><------- should be moved to the left</font></pre>
Can anyone get that to indent properly in Xcode?

    So, for instance, the
character sequence 'f' can be used to insert a for
loop in your code. It's amazing how fast it is to
    write code with that feature.
Textmate has that. Make sure you have the proper language selected at the bottom of the file window. If you have "C" selected, all you have to do is type "for", then hit the tab key and you'll get a "for" loop. And you can even tab from bit to bit to fill in the parameters you want. I've poked around with adding my own completions, too. It's a little non-obvious to me, but it might not be to someone else.
Also, Xcode has something similar, just look at "Insert Text Macro" in the "Edit" menu. You can assign key bindings to any of those. So, for example, I bound "option"-"f" to the "for" loop. If you haven't already discovered it, there's an easy way to move from parameter to parameter, just use the "control"-"/" key combo.
Also, just tonight, I discovered the free Completion Dictionary plugin. It's really easy to define your own text macros. One thing I found puzzling was the key binding to expand the macro. Completion Dictionary comes with a key bindings file, but I couldn't make it work, so I just added a key binding to the "Expand Macro" submenu. Works a charm.
Finally, as to your original question, about the indenting. Did you want the "{" to line up directly below the "while"? If so, Textmate does that for me:
    <pre class="command">class Test
    public:
    Test()
    int x=0;
    while (x<10)
    // something.
}</pre>But that's a language I never use (Java or C++?), so I'm not real sure about that.
Finally, I should put in a word for BBEdit. It's what I actually use most of the time for work, since I work on a web site all day long and I've been using it forever. It has a slick feature where you can build various kinds of macros using Perl or other scripting languages, which is great for creating really complex (or tedious) bits of code. But it doesn't have the same kind of autocompletion as Textmate or Xcode does.

  • Can I find a similar product to Note Tab?

    Hi,
I'm a new iMac user. Used to use Note Tab Lite (http://www.notetab.com) a great deal both at home and work.
If anyone is familiar with this program, what would a Mac user get that is about the same?
    Thanks much,
    Lee
P.S. Where do you post kind of off topic questions like this?

    NoteTab --> http://www.fookes.com/notetab/index.php
Here's the description from the site:
NoteTab is a leading-edge text and HTML editor. Winner of software industry awards since 1998, this application does it all: it easily handles a stack of huge files; lets you format text to your heart's content; does system-wide searches, and multi-line global replacements. It even corrects your spelling mistakes.
Build document templates, add bookmarks, convert text to HTML on-the-fly, and take charge of your code. Use a simple, power-packed scripting language to create anything from a text macro to a mini-application.
Personally, I use it mostly for writing (i.e. producing articles and messages to my students). I set it to a 60 character length and then with the toolbar I'm able to select the text and have the "paragraph" or two or three sentences formatted to 60 characters immediately.
And, I can do what I just mentioned in reverse. For instance, I could select text, hit a button, and have it reformatted into one long line with no breaks at all.
I've also used it to edit an html page very quickly.
I have Text Wrangler, getting use to it, and I can do the formatting one way as mentioned above, but not the other. Now, I'm VERY new with TextWrangler as well so I simply could be missing something.
Basically, as mentioned, I'm completely NON tech. In fact, I set up my web pages (with Front Page) and can barely add pages because I keep forgetting how, LOL. Of course now that my PC crashed and I went to MAC, I'm going to have to go another route with that soon (I can still do it at work).
Whoosh..... a longer post then needed.
    So, that's my story.
    Thanks much for responding,
    Lee

  • M4 recordings

Hi - forgive my ignorance but I have some audiobook files that I am trying to import into iTunes. The extension indicates that they are M4. Everytime I try to load them, iTunes locks up. Could this be due to their format?
Thanks in advance for any help here.

Are you sure that the extension is M4, not MP4, M4P, M4b, or some such? The only "M4" extension I can find is defined as a text macro. From where did you get these audiobooks?
