Text message response apps

I have a Droid 3 and with all the focus on texting and driving I am looking for an app that me do a couple things.
1. Read me my text message via Bluetooth(if possible)
2. Send a canned response to the sender that I will be back to them.
I was using "DriveSafe.ly" but it didn't work well.  Are there any good, simple alternatives?   It would beat getting a ticket or having an accident.

Two, but they are pretty expensive:
1. Cepstral Voices 4.2.0
2. Infovox iVox - 1.1.
Or you can wait until Leopard is released which is supposed to have new, more natural sounding voices included according to Apple.

  • Text Messaging alternative apps?

Does anyone out there recommend any free apps that provide texting through an app without actually having to use standard text messages? I know I can do it through the Google Voice app, but I was wondering if there were any other apps out there. Thanks!

For what you want (texting without using SMS, but having the recipient receive it as an SMS), Google Voice is the only option I'm aware of.
If the recipient is another Android user you could always just email their gmail account: those are delivered in real time and would be roughly equivalent to texting...

  • IPhone text messages and apps

When I check the text messages on my teens phone there is an app that is updating constantly and overrides me being able to see her text messages. Can anyone tell me what that is?and this is when I log onto AT&T to check our bill. It is using up data by updating and sending updates all night long.

If text messages are sent via iMessage, a free texting service that apple created in iOS 5, they will not show up on an AT&T bill.  As for the excessive data usage, it would make since that social networking would be responsible.  In terms of overriding the texting list, this would most likely be an error within AT&T's network.  I have an iPhone 5 using AT&T and do not have this problem with the detailed billing plan.  You should contact AT&T to cancel your detailed billing plan to save you $10 a month.  If you want to view your teen's text messages, you can link your two apple id's together so you can view any text between your teen's phone and another via your phone.  For more help on this matter, you can contact Apple or reserve a Genius Bar Appointment by using the Apple Store app or www.apple.com.
If you have any more details that you would like to share, I can for sure try and find a different solution.  If there is anything else you would like my help on, let me know.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • How to I get my iPad to not receive text messages and apps from my iPhone?

After doing the new software update on my phone, computer, and Ipad my Ipad has been linked directly to my phone. I have changed all setting so that it wont share of communicate but in the update process all saved data was removed from my IPAD I went back to Itunes and after the update to that all the backed up information was gone and the cloud didnt have any backed up information in it from the issues they had with the cloud in August. How do I get my Ipad to disconnect from my phone that it wont recieve text messages or anything else associated with my phone?

You are probably going to have to sign out of/turn off Messages on the phone and the iPad and then start all over again and enable messages on the phone first so that the number is accessible again to use on the iPad in Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at. You need to be able to select your phone number in there.

  • IChat AV Auto Accept text messages causes app crash

I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this but I just started using iChat after years of a hiatus. I noticed that there is an applescript for auto-accepting new text IM messages, a welcomed option.
However, ever since I turned it on, iChat crashes almost every time a new chat is started. Has anyway experienced this and, if so, are there any resolutions other than disabling it?
One thing to note is that I am running the Chax iChat add-on to integrate my AIM and GChat lists into one.
I'm running on a thunderbolt 15" MBP and OS 10.6.7.
    TIA!

    Hi,
So the Specs did not get changed :-)
    Which version of Chax ?
IF you used the .dmg for the Leopard version  you may have a problem.
In Console (Applications/Utilities) is it managing to save a Crash log for iChat ?

  • Is there a way to make 3g and not wi-fi the priority for sending text messages to someone using an iOS5 device?

Here's the problem:  I am often in a building which has free wifi but the wifi requires that you accept the terms of use during every browsing session.  If I receive a text message from someone who is also using iOS5, the phone seems to default to wi-fi to send my response.  If I have not yet accepted the terms of use for the building's wi-fi, my phone wont send the text message response.  I don't know if that is because the phone is connected to a wifi signal albeit one that can't yet access the internet.  For whatever reason, the phone is just trapped in a "sending messge" loop and wont break out of it until I open my browser and accept the terms of use.  This is the situation notwithstanding the fact that I have 3g service and the signal is available to send sms/mms.
Can anyone offer a suggestion other than disabling wi-fi?
    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.  I looked at my settings and the phone has been set on "send as SMS"--but for some reason, the phone is continuing to try to send it over wifi despite the lack of an internet connection on wifi.  It would seem that after a minute or more of trying, the phone would recognize that wifi wasnt available and would send it on SMS but it apparently doesnt.  I can, of course, turn off iMessage but I dont like the idea of having to do that everytime---particularly since an increasing number of my contacts are using iOS5 devices.
Thanks again for your response but it does seem that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

My Iphone 5 will not notify me when I have a text message. There is not banner notification, not sound, or vibration. I have to click on the message icon to even see if I have a text message.

Settings app > Notification Center > Messages (you will need to check both the INCLUDE and DO NOT INCLUDE sections). Set the alerts you wish to see.

  • How to make text message notification work without quitting the app

in the text message conversation view, there's only a soft sound alert when new messages are received.
even when the screen is off, you get no popup preview or a regular notification sound whatsoever.
the only way to keep getting the regular notification & previews is to quit the app each time you send out a text.
often times when you are in the middle of something and are unable to focus on the phone itself for the conversation, you forget to quit the message app, then you are totally not aware there have been messages coming in because it only gives you a soft sound alert that's totally unable to hear when you're outside walking, or other similar scenarios.
It's been bugging me for years, it's specially annoying when the other person I chat with isn't aware of this issue and ocassionally misses out my messages.
i mean, if apple insists that to avoid this problem, the users MUST remember to quit the conversation RIGHT AFTER EVERY SINGLE LINE, this is just absolutely unrealistic.
I now do it every time because I'm aware of the issue, but not the other people I have conversations with.
I've had too many situations where I had to wait for a long time to receive response only to find out that the other person wasn't aware the new text messages, because it was simply too soft to hear, and completely no other sort of things to notify you with.
so i wonder if there really isn't a way to change the notification behavior, cuz apparently it's impossible that I make everybody I send text to change their habits just for this.
if anyone knows the answer I'll really appreciate it. thanks

  • Lost text messages, slow and apps that crash. Is upgrade worth it on a 3G?

Upgrade was slow and interupted. Finally everything seemed ok but then I found I'd lost all my text messages.
Can anyone help me get them back please?
Once over this shock I realised the only big change seemed to be to the folders - utilities etc - and the new look mail app. Both ok mail more so but nothing incredible.
Then the worst thing of all. The phone seems so slow. Big delay in accepting input actions like 'done' etc. Then my safari app crashed - on an apple page! Then iPod app crashed. Am only using about 6gb of my 16!
Is it worth it? Can I revert to os3? If so how?
Oh and finally when I'm typing this- in landscape mode- I can't even see the words I'm typing as the screen constantly jumps to 4 lines above the new text? Typing blind is not good at all.
Thanks for any answers to above.

    Hi Butch,
Thank you very much for your help. Strong case you put forward!
Just wondering, if your iMac is about the same age, have you noticed any slowing down at all since updating everything? Do you find LR3 with Snow Leopard runs quicker on your iMac than LR1 did with 10.4?
    Thanks again.
    Best wishes.
I find it runs quicker and more responsive for most tasks ... but LR3 adds some new features that that use more computing power, while it isn't what I would consider slow, it didn't increase speed dramatically though it is very stable and consistent ... I've had no crashes or problems and LR3 runs as well as LR2.6 did for me.
I should also note that my catalog is on the startup drive, my image files are on external FW800 drives. I think this helps keep things flowi smoothly. I also try to keep the use of too many other apps to a minimum when I am working a high volume shoot in LR, like a large event or wedding ... this keeps as many resources available to LR as possible.
On the other hand, PSCS5 64 bit on 10.6 flies compared to PSCS3 on 10.4.

  • Free text message apps

I just want to confirm: The apps to send text messages for free are really just e-mail apps. They will only go as fast as e-mail can carry them, and when I get the response, my phone won't ding (I use the bell sound) like it does when I get a real text message, correct?
If you want real text messaging, you have to pay, correct?
    Thanks!

The free SMS apps use email, yes. In fact, behind the scenes, 'real' SMS is also using email (when sent between carriers, at least).
As for how you receive a reply, that depends on the app. If the app is one where you put in your number as the sender, and the other person replies to your message, then it comes in as an SMS to your iPhone (with the bell sound). In that case, you'd be charged for receiving the reply, but not for sending the original message.

  • Will an iphone 4S voice read back to me a response to a text message?

I can send a text with voice control but can the 4S read to me the response on the phone.  Phone is being used by a blind person and SIRI will be very helpful but someone told me that SIRI will not read a text response.

Go to Settings, General, Accessibility and go under Vision. Turn on Speak Selection. I believe that requires a bit of sight to be able to select the text area.
To get Siri to read back a text message, I believe you have to turn on Preview, and after that when a text message comes in, you can active Siri to "read last text message". I believe that is the only setting you need for Siri.
