Text messages appearing to be from my number which I did not send
I have recently had an issue whereby I sent a text message to someone in my phone book but when this was received it looked as if it had been sent by a third, totally unknown number.
I also experienced the opposite, whereby someone received a text appearing to be from my number which I categorically did not send.
No-one had access to my phone on either of these occasions (or any other iPhones/iPads I've previously or now own) and it is not a prank of any kind - messages are literally being sent appearing as if they are from a different number than the one that sent it.
How is this even possible and do I have any privacy whatsoever when sending messages or could these literally be sent to anyone with an iPhone (as I have experienced in both directions)?
My Apple ID is on my iPad but the message I allegedly 'sent' was received by the other person as an SMS.
Even if this is the case, I just cannot fathom that this can even be possible. It got to the extent that I was receiving abusive calls from women accusing me of texting their boyfriends when I hadn't! It makes me question how many times this may have happened but gone unnoticed because the recipient had just decided to ignore the message from an unknown number.
How can I trust that my messages won't be being sent willy nilly to random people across the world?!

I repeat. While I was talking via land line to land line with a friend they began recieving text messages from my Iphone that I did not send. I am in the middle east and I was calling a land line in Mexico but that should not have mattered. Moreover, the person I was speaking to told me they had gotten other text messages from me that know I never sent. I called my phone company (AT&T) and was told the problem was not with the system but with my Iphone. They suggested someone was using app that mimicked my phone number. Is such a think possible?
In addition to my iphone I have an itouch. I only just today created an appleID so that I could use this message board so it seems unlikely that the problem is the result of a misused ID

Messages are being sent from my computer that I did not originate
I am receiving multiple e-mails saying that messages could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. I have not initiated these e-mails. How do I stop whoever has hi-jacked my computer to send these messages from doing this?

Group MMS sent from my iPhone 4 - I did not send it
I had a group MMS sent from my iPhone 4 this morning - they sent it to 3 of my contacts and 3 numbers I do not know.
I was at work at the time the message was sent and it was zipped up in my purse.
I have my own office and none of my co-workers had/has access to my iPhone to play a prank.
It was a chain mail type thing, one was an image/picture.
Could this be a random thing or should I be concerned that my phone/MMS messaging has been hacked?
My phone is not jailbroken or anything like that - I've checked my data usage and it's low (only a few days into my billing cycle)
It was sent about an hour ago and no more have gone out since - just not sure what to do.
Thanks for any advice you can give!In addition to my iphone I have an itouch. I only just today created an appleID so that I could use this message board so it seems unlikely that the problem is the result of a misused ID

Yahoo mail sent from iPhone 4 that I did not send
There have been two messages that show they were sent from my iPhone yahoo account (set up in the regular mailbox, not another application for email) that are links. Other than the link, it only says it is sent from iPhone. The message is not shown in my sent mail (like all other messages I send), and it gets sent to a few random recipients from my contact list (not the entire list).
Is this a virus? Would it be coming from some application I have on the phone? Please help! I don't want to have my phone sending people random links!
Thank youThe problem is with your email provider. I suspect someone has hacked your account because you use the same password for most of your online work. You should change your password and not use the same password for most of your on-line accounts, most people are lazy and don't use different passwords because they can't remember them all. You should begin changing your passwords and using a password management tool to help you remember. If you need help choosing one Google "OS X Password Managers" to find some reviews.

Friends Receiving Texts from Me I Did NOT Send
Apparently over the past week my friends have been getting a strange poem texted from my number that I did not send them, the text does not appear on my iPhone 4S either, the text says:
"because i've taken upon the challenge
to write a book this month
chup and i have resorted to the one
thing we avoid like a mortal enemy:
a schedule.
each hour is designated as a workspace
each day has an ample to do list
we're dedicated to accomplishing
the work.
with my time allotted out
and not much for wiggle room
i am surprised to find how much more
i get done in a day.
yesterday i wrote,
i cooked
i worked
i cleaned
i fed the baby
(interspersing)
i napped
i read books to the children
and just before sunset
we hiked the dusty
shoreline trail.
it makes me wonder
if having a schedule gives me
so much more time,
will my second mortal enemy
(a budget)
give me
more
money?
thanks Page and dog Dixie for the beautiful evening on the trail.
this month I've decided to write a book while simultaneously breastfeeding my baby and battling the postpartum blues. should be a blast. will i get it done?
stay tuned . . "
Pretty strange....thanks in advance for any help.We will need more information to be able to assist you.
These message yoy are receiving are probably just a particular type of spam. However it is also possible (unlikely) that your email account is being used to send spam, and that these are the bounce messages.
To tell the difference, you need to look at the email headers. Open the message, then go to the View menu and select Message -> All Headers.
Select the text and post it back here (remembering to obscure your own email address first).
Cheers,

I accidentally deleted a contact but stupidly i haven't ever done a backup. When i search my i phone, text messages that i received from this deleted contact still appear but they aren't in my message inbox. Is there anyway i can retrieve this contact??
Thank you!!!With no backup? No. Are you not syncing your contacts either over-the-air or with a supported application on your computer?

Whenever I try to download an app [from the app store on the computer], a popup message appears saying 'A server with the specified hostname could not be found'. What could I do to resolve this? I am using a MacBook Pro laptop. There is around 250 gb of free space. Please help
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to update. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created. -
Is it possible for sms text messages to be forwarded from one iPhone to another
Hi I'm looking for a bit of help please? Is it possible for sms text messages to be forwarded from one iPhone to another without the use of such app as mysms or google voice as neither of these seem to work. Apple sugested that my network provider can usually assist in such maters with a few simple setting there end. Does anyone have previous experience in these matters. Thanks Matt.
Do you mean forward them automatically?
As you can manually forward any SMS or iMessage to any number you want directly from the iOS Messages app. -

I have just upgraded to the iphone 5 and now when I send a text message it says its from astrogirl36@*** instead of my name, that is my name for icloud how do I change this
<Email Edited By Host>You are only as young as you feel......
This is an example of how you can select the exact content that you want to sync to your device. You do not have to sync the entire iTunes library. You can pick and choose the music, apps, books and so on that you want to sync. This is using music as an example.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on only the albums or playlists that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
You can do this with apps, books, movies .... Whatever .... You have the freedom to sync whatever you want. -
Text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5
text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5. I backed up my 4 before activating my 5. Can i retrieve them somehow?
i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need. -
Restoring Only Text Messages and Phonecall History From Backup
Hello,
I just restored my iPhone and I was wondering if there was a way to restore only text messages and phonecall history from my back up this morning.
The backup is located on my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard if that helps. Thanks in advance for any help.
Rgds,
ValeraPRPWelcome to the discussions,
you can only restore the whole content of the backup, at least that's what is supported by Apple. There is software out there letting you read and extract parts of your backup, for example photos, but you'll have to use this on your own risk. One example can be found here: http://supercrazyawesome.com/
Whatever you do, make sure to back up your backup folder before, or use Time Machine to do it for you.
