Text Messaging Fails

I've been having a problem with Text Messaging, and wondered whether anyone has any suggestions.
When I send a text message, I typically get a notice that the message sending failed. On a recent trip to Europe, for each text message I sent - even when I was in a strong GSM network with EDGE enabled - it took 5-7 attempts for it to go through. In the US, it's a bit easier: it typically goes through on the second attempt.
Why is it so difficult to properly send a text message?
Thanks for the advice!

You may want to call AT&T and talk to them about that. It may have something to do with the way your telephone account and texting feature is set up.

i too have been having the same problem.  text messages fail to send in certain areas of the house.  my service, in the house, was much better before the last update.  my zip code is 28409.
tell me something.  i see above your advice to clear text threads, clear data in the app and force stop.  if i do that (only 48kb of data), will i lose all of my text messages?
    thanks!

        Hi DoranneE,
Let's get to the bottom of this! I have reviewed your zip code and have identified some service opportunities. Did you recently move to this area? Do you have trouble in and outdoors?  Completing the previous suggested troubleshooting steps will not delete your text message. However, if you want to backup your messages there are several message backup applications on the Play Store. I am confident this information is helpful. We are here if you have any additional questions or concerns.

  • Text messages fail to send

Periodically, text messages seem to hang for a long period of time in the "sending" status.  Then I get an error message that says the message failed to send. When I check with the recipient, they usually say they did receive the message.  Sometimes they say they received the same message three times.
I cannot see a pattern for when these failures occur.  It has happened when I have one bar and when I have 4 bars.  It has happened when I'm connected to 3G or 4G, and when I'm connected to wifi.

We want to see those picture messages flying again! Does the wireless signal appear strong when attempting the message? What Messaging app are you using myustbedumb? Are you also using a Network Extender?
    Thank you,

  • Text messaging fails to deliver

I have a iphone 5.  Since I updated to ios7 my text messaging has a failure to deliver daily.  the only thing that correct the problem is to turn the iphone off and on.

    Try this:
    1) Settings
    2) General
    3) Reset
    4) Reset Network Settings
This will reestablish the link for the cellular connection and the cellular data as well as the saved WiFi connections will be reset.

  • Ios8 searching text messages fails

Since downloading the iOS 8 I can no longer search for passed text messages.  Very annoying.  Hope this fault is corrected in the update.  When will that be?

Same issue here on an iPhone 6. Search only pulls up texts since I got the phone. Won't search texts from before iOS 8 (previous backup).

  • Failed in receiving MMS messages as well as failed sending pictures and text messages

    Hello,
I have had this issue for a while.  Picture messages being sent or received most times will not work.  Also text messages fail to send quite a few times and I usually have to resend it to get it to work.   I have called verizon wireless about this before and they just had me do the roaming capability updates and did not fix the issue.  If anyone has some insight into why this happens let me know.

Hello coltrain50411. I can understand your concern with the messages. This issue may be resolved by following the steps below:
    - Power off the device and remove the battery
    - Place the battery back in the device and power on
    - Turned off auto add callback number in settings
    - Dial *228 + Send and choose option 2
Try sending a picture message, I hope this works. If the issue persists, please get in contact with us directly.
    Thank you,

  • Why doesn't text message automatically fall back to SMS instead of options

I have text messages set to iMessage ok and SMS okay.
When a text message fails initially why isn't there a setting that the text will 'automatically' rollover to SMS instead of wasting time coming up with 3 options at the bottom of the screen, including sending as SMS?

The problem could be due to the second reply but I'm suspicious since whenever the problem occurs, the message always goes through when I click the 'option' send as text.
I believe that's because your forcing it to go as an SMS.
One associated question. When a text is sent SMS is it solely routed through the carrier's (in this instance Verizon) equipment an lines and when sent as an iMessage is it routed/handled somehow significantly differently other than not charging the apple customer(s)?
Yes, SMS is solely routed through the carrier's SMS system (does not require a data connection). iMessages are sent by either the carrier's data service or by WiFi to Apple's iMessage servers. Overall, SMS is more reliable. SMSs will go through when even voice calls may not. They can also be sent and received by "dumb" phones. But, they can't be sent/received by devices without cellular voice service. iMessages can be sent/received by iPads, iPod Touches, Mac computers. If the iMessages are sent or received using cellular data, they are charged against the user's data allowance.

  • Galaxy S4 KitKat Update Causing Major Issues With Data Speed and Text Messaging

    Dear All,
My company has over 40 phone users and since the KitKat update has pushed out we are experiencing two major isssues:
Many of our phones are only getting 3G in places that historically before they had blazing fast 4G.  Most message boards say to power off, remove the SIM card and replace.  This gives only temporary relief.  We get 4G for 10 minutes, and then it reverts to 3G, and it is slow 3G at that.  I have seen where some have gone and gotten a replacement SIM, but they indicate this is not a long term solution.  I have also seen that a hard reset/factory reset is being proposed.  However, this seems ridiculous to do to over 40 devises where the obvious cause is the update.  Has anyone found the answer to this one?
Many users, including myself are now having outbound text messages fail.  We have to resend them over and over to get them to go through.  This problem is pretty widespread through the device pool.  I am unsure what could be causing this.  The messages fail regardless of if the phone is connected to wireless or not.

I have had the same problem with my phone. Called tech support and after they contacted Samsung the solution is a factory reset to fix the problem and they are supposedly working on a fix for it. After doing the reset Friday, I have to restart my phone multiple times during the day to get messages to send. I also notice only 3G where we always had 4G. Called tech support again and was given the option to send phone in to have it repaired or get a refurb under warranty. Not sure what I am going to do yet but I can see it is definitely not just my phone. Of course the techs say they have not heard of this before.

  • IPhone fails receiving calls and text messages

Hi everyone, here is my problem.
I have an iPhone 4 32GB. It was on iOs 5.1 (always worked perfectly) untill few days ago I have upgraded to iOs 7.1.
The problem after the upgrade is that phone calls or sms messages fails to be received. Strange thing is I can receive at times calls from cellphones, but I don't receive calls from land line numbers. And text messages arrive all at once after hours.
I have restored the phone in DFU mode twice, set up as new phone , tried a hard reset, network reset... nothing worked. It still fails to receive phone calls and sms messages.
Before you ask, the "don't disturb" is disabled.
I live in Italy and have a contract with TIM, i spoke with their cistomer service and according to them there's nothing more i can do on my end.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

Oh goodness! We want your text going through the first time, dria56. Does this happen when you're messaging someone in particular or is it every message you send? Is it a plain text or a message with more than 160 characters/graphics/pictures?

  • Text messages and Calls failing

I recently bought a 4s and upgraded to the new iOS. Starting last week my text messages and outgoing callas are failing, but I have a strong signal. I've talked to att, who have checked my phone, the coverage in my area, and replaced my sim card. I'm still having issues. is there something wrong with my phone?

seems to be a pretty common issue. I dont think its a carrier issue it more apple I think

  • Failed to send text and text message color?

Hey Guys, well yesterday I got my Iphone 4 and activated it earlier today with a T-Mobile micro sim card and after I entered in all of my contacts , I tried to send a text to my friend but it failed and it noticed that when tried to send it the text color was green then i sent another text to a different friend and this time it was blue. My brother told it that the blue text good for iphone users while green was good for anything other than iphone. I turned off  "enable 3g" and cellular data and I turned on mms messaging, "send as SMS'', and group messaging and I tried again to send the text to the green user but it failed to send again. Can Iphone users send texts to android, etc. users?

Yes, you can send texts to Android, etc.  They will all be green as you say above.  But text messages are at the discretion of your cellular carrier.  You have to have a plan in place with them to send/receive (green) text messages.
