Text Messaging to Contacts

So this is really odd, and not sure how to fix it. I'm super analretentive about my address book, so everything is input correctly to a T, no duplicates, etc.
When I'm viewing a text message, at the top of the screen you see the avatar followed by the person's name. When you click on that it pulls up the person's contact information in the address book. Now, for some of my text messages it does not do this for. When I click on the profile, it brings up a list of contacts and tells me to "Select A Contact". Why is this doing this, and how can I stop it?
Again, for some contacts it doesn't do this for, but for other's it does.

On mine the "Select a Contact" comes up only when the person is not saved in the address book.

If you're with Verizon, here's what I found on the boards:
Dial *228, press 1 when the nice lady answers and wait until she tells you your phone has been successfully programmed.
Then hang up, and press the home key twice rapidly and delete the open/running apps that appear there - delete from that second screen, NOT from the Dock at the bottom of your home screen! You don't want to delete the programs, you just want to close the open/running apps.
Wait 5 minutes or so, then voila! Mine was fixed!

C2-03 TEXT MESSAGING INSERTING CONTACT PHONE NUMBE...

I'm a celphone prepaid loader so I often refer to my phonebook whenever I send a prepaid load. In other nokia phone model to paste a contact person's name or phone number in the body of the text message all you need to do is choose "insert name" or "insert number" and I can't seem to find this feature in the c2-03 model. All I can find is "insert symbol" which would only allow you to insert special characters or smileys, whereas "insert object" would allow you to add attachment. This is a very important feature as it saves time to just import the information from the phonebook instead of inputting phone number right off the keypad.

i am facing same problem... is there any another way to insert contacts in messages in c2-02 or c2-03?

Limit text messages to contacts only

I wish there was a way to limit incoming text messages to only people in my contact list. Anyone know of a way to do this? I'm getting more spam texts and never from the same number twice so blocking the individual phone number won't help. We already have the block on "premium" messages but they are getting past that too. I'm on an iPhone if that's relevant.

Woody15, thanks for posting. Are you still having issues with your incoming text messages? Have you enable Do Not Disturb in iOS? This feature will allow you to block calls and notifications from coming in but it will not stop the arrival of the message. You can enable it by going to settings> do not disturb(turn on)> tap notifications>do not disturb. From here you can manage your settings for the feature. Slow text messages and contacts

Whenever i press the sms icon it takes longer than usual to show me the text messages. Same goes with the contacts. It used to show up instantly and now it takes a while to show up. Why is this?

Reset is covered on page 34 of the manual. No it does not delete information.

How do you move text messages from contact to contact

Recently a friend of mine changed their phone number so I removed their old number and put in their new one. The text messages that I received from them before this change is now labeled as the the old number. I have 2 questions:
1. Is it possible to move text messages from that old number to this new one?
2. Can I put the old number under the contact but label it "old number"? If so, when I text in that screen again will it go to the old number or the new one?

Just my 2 cents...
1) As far as I know, those text messages are attached to THAT phone number. There is no way to assign them to another number.
2) You could certainly add the number as another number for your friend. This would atleast TITLE that thread, so you knew who the conversation was with. However, again, those texts and that THREAD is tied to that "old" phone number. Therefore, if you reply in that thread, the messages are going to be sent to the old number.
I would just recommend adding the number to the contact, so you have it labled if you forget who it was or something, but then just start a new thread with the friend?!..

Whi is ipad not alllowing text messages to contacts not signed up for imessage?

since loading the update last Friday 2/2/13, my ipqd 4 will not let me send any text messages if i turn off imessage. Most of my contacts do not have imessage so I can text only a few people now. Anybody else having a problem? I have ipad 4 Retnia Display

Your problem isn't related to the IOS 6.1 update.
iMessage on iPad only works for other iMessage accounts. The ability to send messages to non-imessage clients is a feature on the iPhone not iPad.

Z10 reboots when opening text message or contact details

Since last week I am unable to read any text messages as the Z10 reboots everytime I try to open my text messages. Thne when I open my contact details it also either reboots or stay on a white screen. PLEASE ASSIST.

hwessels, try scrolling through your Hub, and without opening the text messages, tap and hold on the old text message threads you know to be the longest threads of all, and delete them.
Then, With your BlackBerry powered on, remove the battery for a minute and reinsert to reboot.
Now, after reboot, give your #Z10 a few minutes to complete all the data sync and attempt to open one of the new messages.

Blackberry 8310: My text messages and contact log to clear off automatically

I just got my handset about 6 months ago, and lately I am having problem that my mobile automatically delete all my text messages in my mobile and it also clear off whatever new messages that came in without notification at all ie I couldn't receive any message because once the text message goes to my phone then my phone will automatically clear it. I tried to take out the batter and everything is back to normal. Once I saw the phone was showing bout out of memory error. How do I control my memory? and now it happened every alternate day which I seldom receive text. Hope I can get some solution here.

Is it possible to retrieve text-messages and contacts if you dont have backup files?

I recently updated my Iphone 4 to iOS 7 and i did the mistake of not backing the files up, so i lost all of my contacts, messages photos etc. So i was wondering if it`s possible to retrieve those files without having the backup files available?
Please answer ASAP.

Text Messages displaying contact phone number instead of name

How can I change the config so that incomming txt messages will disply the contact name instead of their number. For some reason, when I receive a call, the display will indicate the contacts name (this is good), however, with txt messages, it displays their number (would rather have the name).
So if Jane Doe calles me I can clearly see it's Jane Doe calling
When the same Jane Doe txt's me, the display reads their phone number

I had a problem similar to this on other phones, and it had to do with how the number was parsed. When you go into your contacts, is the number the exact same number as the number you receive SMS from? Friends and Family with this issue had it because they either didn't have the area code in front of the contacts number or for some reason, required a 1.

Also, go into your SMS history and long press on the number. It should pop up a wondow to save to existing contact.

Text Message A Contact That Switched To Droid

I have a friend that used to have an iPhone, and iMessaging with her was great. Except that she switched to a Droid device recently and can't receive my texts now because my phone keeps sending them as an iMessage. I haven't switched to iOS 6 yet. How can I fix this?

you cannot...she can. tell her to remove her apple id from the iphone she used to have (from the imessage section). or secondly, you can send the message to her mobile number and not her email.

TS4097 we have multiple users in our family and multiple devices all sharing one itunes account. i think we are all synced to one icloud account and it is a nightmare....contacts lost, text messags showing up on multiple devises etc. how do we fix this?

We have our family sharing one itunes account. we have 3 iphones, 2 macbook airs, 2 ipads and 1 mac. I am not sure how we even got started on the icloud but somehow we did and everything is a mess. The ipads are showing the text messages, the contacts are all combined, the apps that my duaghter downloads are appearing on all devices. how do we fix this so contacts are not shared, messages are not shared and apps are not automatically synced to all devises?

You have two different issues going on. You are getting each other's messages because you are sharing the Same Apple ID for iMessage. This can be corrected by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on add the devices and doing one of the following:
Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on all of your devices; or
If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your devices, on all of the other ones tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so all devices will be using a different Apple ID for iMessage). Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores. It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.
The second issue is that you are sharing the same iCloud account on your devices. When you do this any data you sync with the shared iCloud account such as contacts is merged and will appear on all devices connected to the account. To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
First decide which device(s) will be keeping the current iCloud account. On the one(s) that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else that you want to keep on the device(s), save these to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this device, not from iCloud. The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On [iDevice]. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a separate Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account. Repeat this process for all the devices that you need to migrate to new accounts.
When finished, to un-merge the data in your accounts you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting the other person's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

Text Messaging Contacts

I just updated the OS on my device to 10.2.1.2122 and it has caused two issues. The most annoying one is that all my text messages now just show the phone number of the person instead of matching the number to the contact list and showing me the name. It also shows all the phone numbers with a leading '1' which it did not before. Anyone have any idea why this has changed and how I can fix it? I much prefer to see the name of the person who has messaged me.
The other minor thing is that the settings screen now has a black background with white writing instead of a white background. Is this a preference I can change somewhere?

Block sync of mobile contacts and text messages.

Is there any possibility to block the phones connected to the Exchange from syncing text messages and contacts?
I can't find an option or a PS command for it. Maybe i'm not looking hard enough.

You can limit the textmessages by using an exchange policy
Create a new ActiveSyncMailBox policy to dissallow textmessages
New-ActiveSyncMailboxPolicy -Name 'BlockSMS' -AllowTextMessaging $False
However if you're looking a limiting the devices to sync SMS and contacts you'll need additional software.
I recommend you to look at PointSharp MobileGate that will enable you to do this and more.
It also has the advantage that the policy is enforced by a gateway instead of trusting the device to use the policy.
