Text misbehaving

I'm not sure where to go with this one.
My mac has suddenly forgotten to wrap text properly in chat windows (msn) and some other programs. It lets the text run right out of the window so I have to expand the box as long as it takes just in order to see all the text. It is also overlapping text in random places too making it illegible.
Any idea how to fix this? I havent knowingly changed any settings, and my computer is fully up to date, although it was doing this before and after updating to 10.4.8

By chat I was referring to Adium.
The text runs outside the window without wrapping in adium, meebo (online chat site), software update programe, and safari. Safari is by far the worst, although it only misbehaves in certain websites. I mainly use firefox (which is fine) though so it doesn't bother me so much.
The text only seems to overlap when there is a link, or an emotion in a chat programe - it seems to confuse it somehow.

Text Caption Boxes don't last for 'rest of slide'

Hi!
I have created an interactive Captivate movie (i.e. user must
click somewhere to go to the next slide) with various Text
Captions. I've set each text caption to last for 'rest of slide'.
However, in some cases the captions only last for an amount of
seconds whereas Text Captions on other slides, with the same 'rest
of slide' setting, last until you click to move forward.
Any ideas why some text captions do last for the rest of the
slide and some don't, even though they have the same settings under
the Options tab?

Hi Mark and welcome to our community
It is usually all in the timing. For example, if you have a
click box or a button that pauses the slide, it could be that
clicking it moves to the next slide. In this case, let's assume the
slide is a total of six seconds long. But the click box pauses at
two seconds. So you would see the caption for two seconds, then
when the click box is clicked the next slide would display
immediately.
Or possibly the caption is set to fade in and out and the
click box or button pauses after they fade out?
What does the timeline show for the captions that misbehave?

Mail text appears in preview only (Mac Mail)

Suddenly, this: Mail text does appear (first few lines) previewed in the Inbox, but when I click on it, and the actual mail opens, it has no text. However, I can display the text if I click "Reply." I use Mac.com

When any app is misbehaving, the first step commonly recommended is to force quit it. The following example is for Mail, but works for all:
Force quit Mail — there are 2 ways to do this
1. Double tap Home to open the Recents tray, press & hold any visible icon until they "wiggle" and show the red deletion buttons, then tap that button on the Mail icon, or
2. Press & hold both the Home and the Sleep/Wake buttons until the red slider appears, then release Sleep/Wake. Continue to hold the Home button until the Mail page is replaced by a home screen.
Other steps to take, if needed, are in the Tips & Troubleshooting section of your manual.

Cfpdfform (CF8) changes text-field font of an adobe 9 pdf form to Courier

I'm having problems getting cfpdfform to render the text-field font as it exists in the source pdf form.
The source pdf form was created in Acrobat 9 Standard.
When I download the pdf from the server using cfcontent, the text-fields look as expected, retaining their designated font (and the pdf has the desired fonts embedded).
However, when I do a cfpdfform action="populate", the text-field font is switched with Courier (even though the desired fonts remain embedded).
This happens regardless of what font I pick.
I have verified that the font exists on the server and in cf admin.
Here's my code:

Commenting out the cfpdf action = "write" block produced the same outcome.
Using different source and destination filenames (vs overwriting existing one) didn't make a difference, either.
Any ideas on how I can get cfpdfform to respect my predefined text-field fonts?

The problem was resolved.
Turned out to be the way the pdf was created by Adobe 9 Standard that made cfpdfform misbehave.
Three things we did seemed to have made the pdf acceptable by cfpdfform:
1. Downloaded the latest updates for Adobe 9 Standard
2. Checked on the text-field "Multi-line" property
3. Checked off the text-field "Rich Text Formatting" property

Leafpad wipes content of text files on smb when saving

( 3.19.3-3-ARCH x86_64 + Mate desktop )
Here is the problem:
Today I used leafpad (0.8.18.1-4) to put some short text on another computer on LAN (smb shares) on existing text file.
I saved text and exit. But when that text is opened again (with leafpad or any text editor), there is no text at all! Leafpad wiped it out on saving.
Editing text files on my own computer works ok.
Then I installed mousepad, and it (mousepad) works ok with creating or editing text files over LAN computers.
I also have Arch Linux + xfce on virtualbox, last updated 10/2014, so I checked if it have something with update.
Leafpad there worked (regarding network shared text files) ok.
When I updated that system today - leafpad starts to misbehave just like on my (real) computer.
I'm now using mousepad, but I'm curious what is going on.

CWNumEdit initial text selection state

Any ideas on what can cause a CWNumEdit to have a blinking cursor instead of a complete text highlight upon receiving focus?
Typically when I press tab to change the focus to a CWNumEdit control, the entire text of the control is selected.
However, some instances of the CWNumEdit have a blinking cursor immediately after receiving focus instead of having all text selected. If I tab off and back on again, it now selects everything.
I haven't keyed in on what I'm am doing differently with these misbehaving instances of the CWNumEdit. I am changing the RangeChecking properties, setting value, and changing the formatstring.

It shouldn't do this when tabbing through the controls. When a numedit gets the focus from a left-click from the user though, then it will position the cursor in the number if the user clicked somewhere on the actual value to allow editing of the existing number. Are you seeing this in tabbing?
If you are getting this from left-clicking the mouse, you can get past this by putting a CWNumEdit.SetFocus() call in the Click() event handler for the numedit control.

Strange behavior when deleting text in an email.

When composing emails I have noticed that if I make a mistake and delete some text it behaves strangely. This only happens if the text deleted is at the end of the message. On deleting the text I am then left with a small highlighted area (like when you have used your cursor to select an area). If I then try to continue typing it types a few letters and then stops and the new letters typed just go over and over in the same cursor spot. This is difficult to describe so i hope I have made sense but it is extremely frustrating and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem of if it is a known bug??? If anyone knows, please could they let me know :-)

2) then reboot. It is still misbehaving in texts in Apple Mail. For example i select a whole paragraph but only some words are highlighted. Here is a sample

ADO inserting extra T-SQL text

According to the documentation for the Execute Method of the ADO Connection Object:
CommandText
A String value that contains the SQL statement, stored procedure, a URL, or provider-specific text to execute. Optionally, table names can be used but only if the provider is SQL aware. For example if a table
name of "Customers" is used, ADO will automatically prepend the standard SQL Select syntax to form and pass "SELECT * FROM Customers" as a Transact-SQL statement to the provider.
Now when I invoke a stored procedure in the text as "EXECUTE usp_MyStoredProc @Param1 = " & someVal (this is classic ASP), I get an error on occasion that makes no sense in relation to the text. Upon reviewing the submitted SQL
in the SQL Server Profiler I see "select * from EXECUTE usp_MyStoredProc @Param1 = 0" (for example from the above). So why does ADO arbitrarily prepend the extra command portion in this instance? Can I turn this off?
I am using the SQL Server Native Client provider and I am randomly seeing this on my SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 20012 instances. No rhyme or reason as to when it decides to this.

You have an application that is misbehaving and putting in data you say shouldn't be allowed. How is capturing the SQL Text going to help you identify where in the application that SQL is coming from? Seems like it would be just as simple to search the code for the table name in question for all insert statements (or API's that allow insert into the table in question).
If on the other hand you put a check in the trigger that raises an application error when the condition is hit (you can't use a check constraint referencing sysdate, not with your Oracle version, and even in version 11 it's not straight forward to do) and apply that to a test environment, you can run the application or have others run it for you and it will become pretty evident in a hurry which portion of the application is abusing your data, since the application will (should) stop working.
I don't see the value of adding a potentially damaging trigger in to a production environment (that's been my impression of what you plan on doing with this, please correct me if I'm mistaken).

Just loaded program. Typed text doesn't appear.

If I highlight the text I can see it is there but once unhighlighted it disappears.

There are two things to do that solve a lot of problems with the iWork ’08 &/or ’09 apps in Snow Leopard.
First, use the Mac OS 10.6.7 combo updater. This fixes a problem with fonts that is not fixed using the delta update (10.6.1 > 10.6.2). Then download & run the 10.6.7 font fix updater here.
Second, make sure your iWork applications are updated. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.5 & Numbers 2.0.5. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Also, deleting the program's preference list is the #1 trouble-shooting step with any misbehaving application. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist, empty the Trash & then restart Pages. Repeat with Numbers & Keynote. This needs to be done for each user.

Firefox 4.0 - scroll wheel shrinks text rather than scrolling the page down

On some web pages, when I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll down, the page text shrinks, as if I'd done the appropriate gesture on a mobile browser. Reversing the scroll wheel direction enlarges the text. Moreover, the page down key seems to switch me to another tab, rather than moving down in the same page.
I first thought that the scroll wheel problem does not affect all pages. However, it now seems that it has stopped misbehaving. I just went back to a firefox window containing a page I thought had misbehaved earlier, and the scroll wheel now behaves normally and so does the page down key.
I upgraded to firefox 4.0, and told it to restore the tabs I had had open in the previous firefox version. The scroll wheel had behaved normally in that version.
I have not closed and restarted firefox since the upgrade. I don't recall what version I had been running, but I generally upgrade promptly when a new version is available, so I was probably on the latest of the previous series.

Try to close and restart or even reboot the computer to see if that helps. Sounds that the Ctrl key somehow got stuck in Firefox because zooming is the behavior if you press Ctrl and use the scroll wheel.

Acrobat reader, however, complains that
'Adobe Reader could not open file.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...'Thats because the String contents is just that. A String. You are writing the bytes of a String to a file with a PDF extension and trying to open it in Adobe.
Of course it is not going to work because the String bytes don't constitute a PDF file format.
That String contents is merely the console output for your text2pdf program.

Text options

Hi all,
i had a question regarding when writing something with the text option in photoshop, you then have the option of making it smooth, strong, sharp, crisp.
What do these options do to the text? i cant really notice the difference, is there a recommended option for print or web that i should be using?

Depends on a number of factors:
how you want the type to look
resolution
file format (eg: gif or jpeg)
Font attributes: weight, serif thickness, webfont
so the answer would be very long. But thismakes an important differecne for low resoltuon digital graphics, and not so much for print.
None - Applies no anti-aliasing
Sharp - Type appears at its sharpest
Crisp - Type appears somewhat sharp
Strong - Type appears heavier
Smooth - Type appears smoother

How Open And Print Proc C Genrated Text File Based Report ON Browser

I have my old 6i forms from which i runs some Pro*c programmers with the help of HOST() command ,and then that generates a normal text file as a resultant report like file name "kha10"
which i can easily open with any text client ,,,
now what i want is that, to open this file on browser like web Report on my forms 10g like report builder 10g
can anyone help me as it will be a gr8 help otherwise i would have to develop approx 100 reports.....

Automatic PO creation of free text PR

Hi!
We have all our PRs in free text since we are not yet using material master. One of our purchase organization will only order from one vendor and they will enter that vendor and price in the PR. Is it possible to create a PO automatically from that PR without a material or source list?

IF Condition in RTF Help text

Hi,
I have RTF template which contains the field to display the column name. Below are my help text.
COLUMN1 is my XML tag and displaying AQUA color in my excel output.
<?COLUMN1?><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="block" name="background-color">Aqua</xsl:attribute>From above scenario, i need to add one more condition if there is no value in my XML tag then don't display the field in my excel output. For example. I have COLUMN1 and COLUMN2 XML Tag. Only COLUMN1 contains the value but COLUMN2 not. In my excel output the COLUMN2 value should not display.
