Text on some sites flash with yellow background

Since upgrading to 3.1.1 I've noticed that some pages have text areas that flash with a yellow background when loading or when an ad on that page changes. Huffingtonpost.com is the most common offender, but it has happened on other sites as well.
The yellow background "flash" seems to be contained within a box or frame in which the text sits. It's brief and then the background reverts to white.
Just to be clear, I'm not referring to any graphic that is Flash-based. I mean an area on the page that flashes a different color before reverting to its normal white.
What's going on?

Web sites print with black background

I usemhigh contrast in IE8 but in Firefox 4 I have it set to use yellow on Black background. I have my printers all set to print in black and white. When I print from IE8 I get black text on the white paper with no background printed. But with Firefox 4 I it prints the black background with the yellow text. This is true of all sites I'm viewing and wish to print.

Safari does not display text on some sites.

Some sites I visit do not display text at all.
For example: This site (http://neflin.org/) looks fine in Chrome, Firefox, whatever. But in Safari, it has no text at all. See below.
Mail is having difficult with some text in html email too.
I have rebooted, reset the PRAM, deleted preferences and turned off extensions. I checked the Guest account and created a new account and in all cases the problem persists.
I have validated fonts in Font Book, restored standard fonts and looked for duplicates. Nothing.
Flash and Java are up to date.
Any thoughts?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

Text on some sites (especially headings) in italic instead of roman in FF 4. Why?

On some sites (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/, http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/) text, especially headings, that used to be in roman style is now oblique/italic, and harder to read.

for the few KF's that don't work, just be sure that there is only one year in that KF; because the &xxx& can mean that there are 2 possible entries (or more) and then BW don't want to display.
It is indeed strange that sometimes it works and sometimes not, even when it worked before.
Just to be sure, go to trx RSRT > enter your query and do 'generate' > in this way BW reprocess everything, so also the determination of the text variables.
After generating, you can execute it also in this transaction

Portions of text on some sites are are over-written

Using FF 4.0.1, the text on some web pages over-writes other text.
If I open the same page in IE it appears correctly. This can lead to problems if two hyperlinks are over-written

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting 'none' as a high value can cause issues like you described.

After upgrade why do I have Old English style font on alert boxes and text on some sites?

The browser is picking up fonts from my font list to use in browser alert boxes, pull down menus, and sometimes in whole web sites.
Unfortunately it chose a Old English font that is virtually impossible to read under 18pt. It also uses a second scrip font for Bold styles.
For an example of where it is used, the pull down menu at the bottom of the Firefox Help page labeled "Other Languages" appears on my screen as an Old English font called "Westminster Gofisch"

Can't print from some sites visited with Firefox, but can print from same sites visited from IE.

From IE I can print emails from my Google email but not from Firefox. For some reason Firefox keeps changing my print settings and that prevents printing unless I manually change them back. Also I have had trouble printing from dailysudoku.com. I am running Windows 7 Home Edition on an HP laptop. I tried uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling, but that didn't solve the problem.

No. This didn't work. And when I went to about:config I received a warning message that I might void the warranty if went there. And I should go there only if I knew what I was doing. If followed the instructions very carefully and reset the print settings as you suggested. I also got the following message:

Will I need to try to reset some of the other print.printer preferences besides print.printer_print? I'm a little nervous about doing something that could void my warranty if I don't know exactly what I'm doing.

Wonder Y some sites show text etc overwritten (i.e. not spaced out)?

Only seen this since last upgrade (using on Kubuntu Lucid). Some text on some sites is overwritten. Could be bad design but seeing quite a bit of this but cannot see any obvious reason. I also have a new monitor but as nothing else is giving problems!!
I have searched around but found nought on this (yet).

Such issues can also be caused if a different font is used on pages that is wider than the specified font. If you do not have the specified font and Firefox uses a font that is wider then you can get that problem. Some websites are also coded badly and use absolute positioning or specify a fixed height.
If you can't solve it via [[Websites look wrong]] then please post a link to sites that look wrong.

Adobe 10.2 flash player doesn't work on some site with diff browsers

WTF! I've been through every forum about new adobe flash player it doesnt work on some site i.e facebook, ustream, fox news, dailymotion and cartoon network...Nobody, not even adobe has a real solution to this problem! Some site stream good other don't at all. All I get is a blue box in the display sometimes it loads, but doesn't play the video or games. Updated Java and SWF and by the way this a brand new computer fresh out the box WIN7 64 worked before why not now! I've reinstall and uninstall, checked active X java scripting, and global settings and so on, but nothing seems to work. WHY? Global settings doesn't work for some unknown reason can't enable some of the settings. Everything work fine on my PC before the update, so go figure adobe. No! browser works with the new flash player properly. Fire, IE, Safari, and Opera none of these browser work with the flash player like it should! HELP!!! "I see why apple doesnt wont to have anything to do with adobe flash."

I don't understand - in your post you mention "new Flash Player" several times, but in the subject you mention 10.2...?
What is the exact FP version you have?
For your blue box problem, have you tried to disable Hardware Acceleration?

Problem with text selection on some sites.

With the latest updates on some sites, it became impossible to select text. Example: http://darkside.ru
Before, long press contributed text and suggested ways - copying, select all, etc. Now it cannot be done on darkside.ru. Checked on other browsers, everything works.
Fix please. Don't want to leave FireFox because of this.
It would be cool to make the transition between open tabs by scrolling left/right, like in the Yandex.browser for example.

Hmm, long pressing on links works on the site, but not on text. I wonder whether they are using some technique to block it? It doesn't seem blocked in Firefox on Windows.
Have you noticed this on any other sites?

Adobe Flash 10.1 Won't Operate iSight On Some Sites With Mac OS 10.6

i have Mac snow leopard 10.5, but every time i download the update for 10.6, my adobe flash player (10.1) that operates my iSight cam doesn't turn the cam on with some sites... not all sites... just some. my photo booth application works. it's happened three times now and i've used Time Machine to go back and restore my Mac to 10.5 and Adobe flash works perfect on all sites with that snow leopard version. does anyone know of any reason that would be happening? i've checked firewalls, global settings....everything. i even get the adobe message asking if i want to allow my cam to be turned on, but even when i click yes, it will not turn it on on some sites. the audio works fine... what could be causing this??? thanks.

I'm not sure what is causing your exact issue with updating to 10.6 and FP 10.1. Have you tried turning off the hardware acceleration? I'm not sure if that would help, but you could try. I'm not that familiar with Mac either, but not knowing what the upgrade has that appears to conflict with FP 10.1 doesn't help either. It must be something.
To turn off h.a. go to this link and right click on the Flash logo and click on Settings, then Display Settings and UNcheck the h.a. there. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

I will try safe mode.
I did download Ad Network Detector and opted out of JumpTap and AdMob. Today I found more: MoPub and Millenial which I will opt out of. I had previously opted out of Google Ads on the Cell phone but not on the net - so did that. Allegedly it take time for the opt outs to reach the originators of these pop ups

I've downloaded & installed the latest Flash Player. On some sites it works fine on others , they tell me to download Flash Player . Why ?

Oh, OK, you likely have a file with a .dmg extension on it? You need to double-click that - it will mount on your Desktop looking like an external drive. Then you need to double-click the Install Flash Player app.
This should actually install Flash Player and, after you restart Safari, your'll be able to watch video.

Some sites like Facebook have a setting to force a secure connection.

Flash Player only works on some sites with Explorer

I've uninstalled reinstalled cleared the cash. Disable Activex filtering. On some sites it says that I need to update but I have the most current version. I also have Fire Fox and Chrome and they work fine.

What version does it say you have installed on IE if you go to http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html#main_Find_the_Flash_ Player_version_installed_on_your_machine ?
