Text quality on livetype

i just made a project and my text that i made in live type isn't the best looking quality. it's kind of pixelated and fuzzy. it especially shows up when i have it finished and on my dvd i made. what settings to i need to change in order to make the text to appear more clear and crisp?
  Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've checked everything I can think of and the only thing that may help is field dominance (edit - project properties - field dominance). In both our project files there is no field dominance selected but following this test from the LT help:
To test the field rendering order: 1 Start a new LiveType project. 2 Choose Edit > Project Properties. 3 In the Project Properties dialog, do the following: aChoose an NTSC or PAL setting from the Presets pop-up menu. bSelect the box next to Render Fields. c Do not select Upper First. In this case, you are rendering lower field first. dClick OK. 4 In the Inspector, do the following: aType a capital “O” in a system font on Track 1. bIncrease its size to fill most of the Canvas. c Color the letter red, then choose black as your background color. 5 Apply a fast-moving effect to the track, such as Jumpy, in the Caricature effect category in the Media Browser. 6 In the Timing tab, set the speed of the effect to 100 percent. 7 Choose File > Render Movie. 8 Enter lower.mov as the file name in the Save As field, then click Save. 9 Now change the color of the capital “O” to blue. Select Upper First in the Project Properties dialog. 10 Render this second movie, naming it upper.mov. 11 Play back both movies on an NTSC monitor. One of the two movies will look distorted; the other movie will play correctly, with sharply defined edges. Whenever you render a LiveType movie for that system, use the settings you used for the undistorted output.
it's the only way I could replicate any pixellation/artefacts. Just replicating your project file, but in PAL, it played thro' perfectly.
The only other thing I can suggest is using the preset
CCIR 601 NTSC sq 4:3 and see if this makes any difference.
Do post back and let me know if any of these work.
Dave.

When viewing documents in Adobe Reader (just installed on new Macbook pro retina), text quality in documents and in the program itself is very low.

  • [CS5] Create Export PDF Preset w/ High text quality

    Hello,
I've created an Export Preset for PDFs using the PDF/X-1a 2001 Standards. I've left all the default settings, and the PDF looks good, but now its been requested that I make the text appear more "crisp". I'm wondering what settings I could tweak in my Preset to enhance the text quality?
Thanks in advance for any help!

To be honest - I'm not sure about the rasterized/outlined text. We're only viewing it on our computer monitors. What I've done now, which I think will suffice, is created a Preset based on the "Press Quality" preset and saved it with the PDF/x1-a:2001 stanard. This greatly improved the text quality (I haven't dug into the .joboptions file for the built-in Press Quality preset but I'm guessing that's what fixed the issue for me).

  • Printing with BufferedImage and Text Quality

I am using PrinterJob to print text/graphics.
In my paint method, if we paint directly on the graphics handle using Graphics2D methods, the text quality is very good.
Our application has to manage a lot of data, and to handle the callabcks for the same page, we are painting to a BufferedImage, and then drawing the BufferedImage unto the graphics handle on the subsequent calls. The overhead to draw the page is significant, and this give us much better performance.
The PROBLEM IS, the quality of the text using the bufferedImage is like draft quality test, not the high resolution text we get when we paint directly on the supplied handle using the native drawing emthods every time.
Any idea how we can buffer the page image, and retain the text quality ?
    In the paint we do:
    m_Image = ((Graphics2D)pg).getDeviceConfiguration().createCompatibleImage(m_wPage,m_hPage);
    m_Graphics = (Graphics2D) m_Image.getGraphics();

  • Text quality

I am attempting to create a magazine cover with picture and text.  I have sussed out the pictures, but the text quality is rather naff on printing (depending on the font I use)  Any suggestions to how to improve the font or are there particular fonts that work better than others?
Edit...using v6 and Time New Roman and Book Antiqua are printing fuzzy...Aparajita is perfect!

Do these automatically output as vector/type?
It furthermore depends on your printer/RIP, I’m afraid, but most printers should nowadays be able to handle PostScript data.
In which case can I rectify without restarting
If you employ a non-destructive workflow you might by simply up-resing; do you place images as Smart Objects, perform any touch-up in the full-res SOs and apply Adjustments as Adjsutment Layers for example?
Could you please post a screenshot with the Layers Panel visible?

  • Flash and audio and text quality & Documentation/Manuals

Like a donut i posted in the wrong bit so here are the links

    Flash
    and audio and text quality
    Apologies and thanks

There is no polite way to say this: You need training to
learn how to use Captivate to create learning objects for a LMS. It
doesn't need to be a "long" training period, but you are trying to
shortcut ALL training and begin at the end. I advise you learn to
use Captivate as a generator of learning objects (LO) for the LMS.
You seem to be thinking you can to use it as a "shell" for your
Flash output and it just isn't a Flash plug-in ... it is a
self-standing and sometimes complicated - but usually easy to learn
    - learning tool in its own right (by "easy to learn" I don't mean
    overnight, in any case).
Reasons why include the fact that Flash SWFs are vector based
while Captivate uses bitmapped graphics. Audio is handled entirely
differently on the two. Captivate's communication with the LMS is
not - I think - going to pass on scoring from the movie-in-a-movie
approach you are trying to use. And on and on.
Sorry I don't have more encouraging news for you. Good luck,
    michelle.

  • Really bad text quality, photoshop, is it pixel aspect ratio?

when doing dvd's i often use psd files for menus or title boards, quite often at 16x9, now the problem lies with the quality of the text in photoshop and when transferred to dvdsp. In photoshop with a 1024 x 576 sq pixel canvas the text looks crisp and sharp, however when transferred to dvdsp the text feels like it has gone through a verticle interlace, each letter is chopped up and shifted stretched and compressed. Going back to photoshop and making a 720x 576 comp with a widescreen pixel aspect ratio seems to do the same thing but this time in photoshop aswell. The text quality problem is not the usual dvd compression issue that is frequently discussed on these boards where text looks fuzzy, this looks much worse than fuzzy or jpeggy
Is there a standard, a combination of aspect ratio and canvas size in both photoshop and dvdsp? It is really frustrating.
    Thanks in advance
    Henry

My issue is particular to the crossover between photoshop and dvdsp, it may also be particular to pal dvd's and relating to the pixel aspect ratio, if you try and create a 720 x 576 document in photoshop with widescreen aspect ratio turned on and try adding text you will notice the issue. This also crosses over into dvdsp no matter what i do unless the image uses square pixels in p/shop the text is awful. I was really wondering if anyone else had found a combination of setups that avoid this wierd occurance in both programs.
The issue is not the standard 'my font looks bad on an apple display' issue which is often discussed on this forum, i understand that apple display resolutions are so far superior to standard def tv's that it is impossible to compare. The typesize on these projects are 24pt bold sans serif so well above the 18pt generally accepted standard and the canvas size is pixel perfect for pal resolution no images have been reduced or enlarged. The font looks almost illegible rather than just fuzzy.

  • Need to improve graphics and text quality

I'm looking for a tutorial or any document that will teach me how to improve graphics and text quality in Motion. Quality is extremely poor. With same settings, graphics and text quality in FCP is far better. Why?

The quality problems when using Motion titles in FCP usually result from a discrepancy in the Field Dominance/Field Order settings between the FCP timeline and the Motion project.

  • LiveType text quality unusable after installing Quicktime 7.0.4

Is anyone else seeing this problem after installing 10.4.4 and QT7.0.4?
Any previous or new projects in Livetype (FCS) that utilise text (so all of them!) look absoloutely terrible - the fonts are all jagged, have strange shadows and other artefacts. We are observing this on a number of Mac's.
Having rolled QT back to 7.0.3 using the re-installer then updating we can aleviate most of the problems.
I hope Apple fix this pronto!

  • Text quality from websites noticeably inferior to Internet Explorer, is there a fix for this?

The quality of text on websites is quite poor with thin type and fuzzy definition, however pictures are good. The quality is noticeably worse than IE8 on the same computer.

Firefox uses your system-level setting for ClearType font anti-aliasing. Internet Explorer has a separate setting so you can use ClearType in IE even if you aren't using it system-wide. This might explain why you see a difference.
Can you check your ClearType setting using the steps in this article:
[http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306527 HOW TO: Use ClearType to Enhance Screen Fonts in Windows XP (MSKB 306527)]

  • INDESIGN PDF TEXT QUALITY

I have been using Indesign for quite a while but I have noticed recently that when I export an Indesign document to a PDF the quality of Just the Text is really poor. I have been messing around with the Transparency Blend Space, but have made sure that the blend space of the document is RGB and that the text is black RGB, this doesn't seem to help at all. This has never happened before. Can anybody help? My email address is [email protected]

Can I just say, it's always been my understanding that the PDF standards and presets have always been there as a guide only. You should check all the settings to see if they conform to your printers. And you should try to get joboptions from your printers to create pdfs that work with their hardware/software etc.
The text showing up poor in the PDF, could be Transparency problems, but unlikely if it's still highlightable. It could be down to a damaged font, or fonts not embedding correctly or something.
There are other ways to create a PDF.
    File>Export>PDF
File>Print> Choose Adobe PDF from drop down menu.
Print to postscript and distill the postscript file.
These are all ways to create pdfs and if you're having problems with one method you should try another to see if it's the same issue.
This is a way to narrow down problems.

  • IDVD 7 Poor text quality

    Hello!
I am trying to use iDVD 7 to create a photo slideshow but my text is showing up terribly after I burn the DVD. Even the automated title text is poor quality and pixelated. I was originally trying this on iMovie but I was getting the same problem so I switched to iDVD and fixed some of the other problems I was having, but my text is still terrible. It's not quite unreadable but it is very unsightly. I would appreciate any input, especially if it doesn't require purchasing more software, which I don't have the authority to do here at my work. Please help! Thanks!
    Dwayne

I think we're not understanding one another. At first I had used photoshop to add text and then added them to iDVD. But those were coming out terribly and so I learned that you could have iDVD automatically insert notes which you input in iDVD or the names of the photographs overtop the images. This functionality is accesed either in the window wherein you can add or delete images from the slideshow, in the Settings menu, or under iDVD/Preferences/Slideshow. Its called "Show Titles and Comments." So I went back into photoshop, got rid of the text I had added and then turned on this feature. So now iDVD automatically places a grey rounded rectangle near the bottom of my photos with the name of the image file. That is the text that is giving me trouble, and the text that I can't seem to adjust.
Thanks again for your guys' help. I really, really appreciate your time and effort! I hope this description gives you a better idea of my problem.

  • Pre-comp 3D Ray-Traced text quality

I've made some text in AE.  It looks smooth and great until I pre-comp.  Then it gets some aliasing around the edges and is nowhere near as smooth.
Text looks aliased in the pre-comps.  If I click the 3D icon on my master comp, it becomes smooth in master comp.  Unfortunately, I can't leave 3D checked on because I want to apply effects to the 3D text - hence, the pre-comps.  Changing the ray-trace quality and anti-alias filter type does not appear to change anything for me.
    Any suggestions?
    AE CS6
    Win 7 64
    2GB GTX 560 Ti
    16GB RAM

    Thanks,
    JB

I'm not exactly sure what your comp looks like but here are some guidelines. If you want to use Ray Traced rendering then you cannot apply certain effects, blend modes and other things to the 3D layer. If you pre-compose and collapse transformations you should be able to then apply effects to the pre-comp and still see the 3D and move around the object with the camera. If you turn on the 3D switch for the pre-comp the effects will then go away and the edges will show aliasing.
The Collapse Transformations switch looks like a * and is just right of the shy icon.
If that doesn't solve your problem then we need to see a screenshot and maybe a flow chart of your project.

  • Poor Interaction Text Quality

    Hi,
I've been working with several of the Captivate 6 interactions (accordion, tabs, etc) and the text is always very poor.  I've fiddled around with the settings, output quality, fonts and so forth but the quality of the text/fonts remains poor.  Does anyone have any suggestions that may resolve the issue?
    Thanks in advance.

You are using which resolution (because interactions have been designed for a pretty big resolution, rescaling will not improve quality) and slide quality?
