Text rendering in photoshop cs 4 super slow
Hi,
So for some reason (never noticed this before) Photoshop is taking a long time to render text, and makes me wait, just to do simple stuff like change the size of font, or change the font. Anyone know why?
I don’t know why.
But if it involves fonts you could try checking your installed fonts in Font Book and remove problematic ones – if some should get flagged.
Maybe clean the font-cache, too.

Lion is super slow! Should I reinstall?
Hi,
I have a 13” MacBook Pro that has a 2.7GHz i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. I bought this June at it came pre-installed with OS X Snow Leopard. In July, I upgraded to Lion and initially, my computer just had the spinning beach ball a lot more, but a day or two later, my computer seemed like it was running as normal (I’m assuming this was due to Spotlight indexing everything).
However, of late I’ve noticed my computer is SUPER slow! I first noticed the lag in processing speed when it took five minutes to transfer 1GB to a USB flash drive. (I then transferred the files to a Windows PC and back onto the same flash drive and the entire process occurred in under a minute). It takes over two minutes to start up and anywhere between ten seconds to a minute to open a regular application (i.e. iTunes, iPhoto, Firefox, etc). And my laptop heats up a lot faster these days too!
I’ve looked around the discussion forum and tried all the suggested solutions i.e. resetting the PRAM and the SMC, verifying and repairing the disk/permissions (including the one where you have to go through the recovery partition). But nothing has helped. If anything, it's getting worse! Every time I open disk utility now it says it’ll take 4 hours to verify the disk permissions! AHHH. And it’s not like my laptop is filled with useless files, either; my hard drive capacity is 500GB and it still has 372.7GB available. Oh, and I don’t have a virus either because I’ve run the Sophos anti-virus scan three times.
Normally, I’d have taken my laptop to the Apple Store and asked them to figure it out, but I’m currently in the Philippines and they only have Apple Resellers and fake Apple Stores here. I realise it sounds ridiculous but I’m deathly afraid they are either going to kill my MBP altogether or steal my parts.
I was wondering should I completely re-install Lion? If so, how exactly would I go about doing that? I do have a Time Machine back-up of everything on my 1TB external drive, but I don’t have any back-ups prior to getting Lion because I purchased my external later. Also, if I were to re-install Lion and restore from my Time Machine back-up would all my applications still work? I have Microsoft Office 201, Adobe Pro, Photoshop, etc. and if they get uninstalled, I don’t have any of my installation CDs here!
I’d appreciate any help! If you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, anything – shoot me a response. Thank you!Try to find out what is causing the loss of performance by starting the "Activity Monitor" (from Applications -> Utilities) and sort the processes according to real memory usage or CPU time by clicking at the column headers.
Also have a look at the free Disk space.
According to Apple the minimum hardware requirements for Lion are 2GB of RAM, but I found that not to be sufficient with the Applications I like to be running at the same time. For my workflow I needed 4 GB RAM when on SL, and with Lion I needed 8GB of RAM. The Activity monitor will tell you if you need to upgrade your RAM.
The second bottleneck with Lion is free disk space. Lion will run much more smoothly if you keep a least 10% (and a minimum of 20 GB) of your disk free.
If you find that you do need more RAM, but don't want to upgrade right now, look at the "Activity monitor" to find out which of your processes are fighting for memory and try to avoid running those together at the same time. I found that quite often Safari was eating the available memory and quitting Safari when I did not really need it did help a lot.
Regards
Léonie
P.S. There are quite a few threads in this forum discussing this. Search for "Lion slow" -
Photoshop cs6 running extremely slow on opening a file. have reset prefs and set type to none. have to force quit most of the time.
I'm experiencing the same trouble. Photoshop takes 5 minutes to open then runs fine.
I recently bought a new iMac AND updated to Adobe Master Collection CS6. My concern is that PhotoShop now takes 5 minutes to open. The Photoshop desktop pops up immediately, but the moment you click on a tool or try to open a file (no matter the size) results in the spinning wheel for five minutes before you can do anything. After that, Photoshop appears to work fine.
What I’ve done:
Ran Adobe updater
Reset Photoshop Preferences
Validated all fonts and removed any trouble fonts
Ran the font test
Set font preview size to none
Cleared the Photoshop type cache and system cache
Disabled Symantec Endpoint
Tried running with the GPU processor on/off and in basic
Tried opening Photoshop with optional third party plug-ins turned off (still took five minutes but this time I didn’t even get the Photoshop desktop view until AFTER the five minutes)
I’m wondering since I migrated the files form my old computer (and older versions of Master Collection) did something get corrupted.

Photoshop CC 2014 running slow while trying to edit 1.4 GB photos.
Hi,
Anyone have any recommendations for getting CC 2014 to run faster while editing large files (1+ GB)? It seems to bog down doing simple tasks like Selection. I just installed a new graphics card, a Radeon R9 270x with 2 GB GDDR5 for the GPU. Also am running 8 GB of system RAM with about 70% allocated to Photoshop. Should I bump up the RAM to 16 GB? Or maybe use better ram? ( I don't remember the brand of RAM I have now, but it's 1300 MHz). Or should I allocate more ram to Photoshop?
Or...am I just always going to have this issue when editing such large files?
As a side note, I don't run a SSD, just a 500 GB HD of which 190 GB is free. No partition.
Thanks for the help.Graphics driver should be up to date. I literally just installed the card and drivers last night. GPU acceleration is enabled, but will that really slow things down? The card should handle most of what's thrown at it. And effect rendering isn't really all that slow, just tasks like Selection, and other toolbar type tasks. Even opening the files takes a bit of time.

IMac 27" 3.06GHz 240GB SSD / 2TB WD Black Caviar 16GB SUPER SLOW
Hi Apple or other fellow Apple Users,
I have the iMac 27" 3.06GHz and was on Snow Leopard. Was amazingly snappy and fast but I wanted more.
Upgraded RAM to 16GB and soon the 1TB filled up and was slowing me down.
I took out the optical drive and installed a Runcore 240GB 2.5" SSD with a Caddy holding the drive using the optical bay's connection (with an adapter of course)
Replaced the 1TB with a WD 2TB Black Caviar as my Data drive.
Freshly installed OSX Lion on the 240GB SSD and then moved the Users document folders linked to the 2TB drive. Apps are installed on the 240GB SSD and Trim support is switched "on". Ran fine (but not super fast like it should) for awhile but now after some usage, it slows down to the point where typing letters takes about 10 seconds to come out, spining wheel appears virtually everywhere, Flash pages loadings are extremely laggy.
I am a photographer and use Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS5 and a load of other graphic applications. They run quite slow after about 1 hr of usage and then to the point where it's unbearable.
Usually speeds back up after reboot, but then super slow again after some usage.
I believe it has something to do with the Fans that after SSD installtions, causes them to run constantly, so the iMac is constantly cool around 36 degrees and hottest at 41 degrees.
Done Repaired permissions, rebooted to safe mode and have plenty of hd space. Updated everything and OSX 10.7.2
Any ideas how to speed it back up?
ThanksHow did you manage to get the SSD and the 2TB drive in your new Imac? OWC said you couldn't update those internal parts. I am too looking to get an Imac 27" but I want to add my own SSD and 2TB drive similar to what you did. did you buy the imac with this set up already from apple? do you have to get the SSD/Harddrive combo from apple to have the parts needed for the replacement? thanks in advance.

I made a walk cycle animation in Photoshop CS6 and want to render it into a quicktime format. I'd like it to be 12 fps, but when I rendered it at 12 fps the video seemed to be missing frames, and the video was 3 seconds long. I have 98 frames to my animation; doing the math, at 12 fps it should be 8 seconds long. Not 3.
I was confused and for curiosity's sake I rendered the video at 6 fps, trying to really slow it down. The video ended up being STILL 3 seconds long and only maybe 20 frames. I was missing literally 70 frames. I'm so upset with this rendering thing, I could chuck my computer at the wall.
Does anybody know of a solution to this?
edit: If it means anything, I've tried rendering it straight from the frame view and the timeline view. Each time I render it I have the timeline frame rate match the rendering frame rate as well.floriannaart wrote:
Changing animation frame rate when rendering in photoshop does not change the length of the video?
Photoshop CS6 and CC support two types of animation Frame animations and a Video Timeline
Changing the frame rate should not change the length of a video timeline. It should just change the number of frames that are rendered. To change the length of a video you need to change the length of the video timeline. If you increase the length of the timeline and there is audio I'm quite sure there will be a problem with it, The Video part will most likely be better then the sound. The required number of extra frames can be generated however the video may look like slow motion. If you decrease the length the motion will speed up. The length of a video is normally done be editing video clips which are trimmed and stitched together to get the desired duration. Not normally done by altering the duration of a clip.
The duration a of Frame animation is the sum of the times each frame is displayed. In a frame animation the length of time a frame is displayed can be varied it not a normal motion picture video. To have a smooth frame animation you need a sufficient number of frames that are different from each other to show smooth motion. You can use Photoshop Frame animation tween feature to have Photoshop manufacture frames to help with a smoothing the animation. Once you have a frame animation the length with the motion you want you can have Photoshop convert it to a video timeline and render a normal motion picture video. It will not have audio but you can add audio to it. -
Fireworks super slow opening pdf files
I am opening the first page of a bunch of pdf files and then batching them into thumbnails. This is relatively quick when I do it on my laptop but when I try and do this on my desktop, it almost takes 20 minutes per file to open. I can open these same files in photoshop in about 5 seconds.
Any ideas why Fireworks on one machine would be slower? Same version my desktop has a little more RAM so it should be faster if anything. Rebooted the computer and still super slow without any other apps running. If you would like to file a bug report or suggestion, you can do it here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

hi
my 10.6.8 mac book pro is super slow.
the MacHD icon says under it: 499.76 GB, 264.56gb free.
It is running with 2.26 GHz intel core 2 duo.

This happened a year or so ago, but I can't remember what I/we did to get it moving again.
The moving ball takes ages.
I am now working with only one thing open at a time, but it is still very slow. I use firefox, ppt, word, photoshop.
I see I have bootcamp in my apps - is that something I should open/use?
any help would be great

Support Site Super Slow?
I was attributing it to the release of Lion and maybe just getting tons more people... but that seems to have settled somewhat. Also, considering the nature of the support site (being pretty much just text), I would expect it could handle quite a bit of activity. It has just been super slow. At times I'll get the yellow "post-it" message saying they're updating the site after a long delay, then a refresh brings it up. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm having the same issue at home and work.
Tony,
Wow, it sounds like you have had a string of bad luck on this. Very sorry to hear that!
We are migrating to a new support site platform - mobile and Idea products have already moved, and the Think products will migrate and everything should be complete by August 11th (current target). The URL will be the same, and all the "moving" banners should be cleaned up then.
Hopefully, on the other side, we will have much faster / stable support site experience for all our customers. We DO want you to be able to use the support site and to have a good experience there!
Sorry about the delay and the part damaged in shipping that added to it. Hopefully, service will sortly get this resolved for you. If you feel this is still stuck in a couple days, please let me know and we'll try to arrange additional help.
Best regards,
Mark

Dear all,
I am currently trying to get high quality rendering for monochrome text, targeting epaper viewers. I draw strings into a BufferedImage, and display it on my LCD monitor in order to quickly check the rendering quality, before transferring it to epaper. I am encountering some disappointing surprises using Java2D, and cannot get a good output quality:
- TextAttribute.WEIGHT produces only 2 different renderings, regular or bold.
- Fonts appear very very light for sizes up to 17pt, and suddenly appear bold at 18pt+ sizes
I am working under Windows XP SP 2, with JDK 1.6.0. Here follows a small piece of code illustrating the second problem. When comparing output with Photoshop or Fireworks outputs, the results are really disapointing, and I am sure that I am missing something...
Thanks in advance for any help/tip.
Sincerely,
Jean-Marie

f.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(new TextRendering()), BorderLayout.CENTER);
f.setSize (600, 800);
f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
f.setVisible(true);
}Of course, the same rendering problem can be observed with the more sophisticated "Font2DTest" example which can be found in the JDK samples: with the Arial font, the text becomes "semi-bold" starting from 18pt size, whereas it is very light for sizes up to 17pt.
Thanks again for any help.

Fireworks CS6 text rendering is a disaster
This is text rendered in Fireworks CS6 next to text of the same size produced by Paint.NET, with both using their default settings.
And if we zoom in a bit:
Can you guess which was produced by a product costing $300, and which was produced by a free utility?
Seriously, is this a joke? There is no way I could use the garbage that CS6 is producing in production or to show to a client. It may be worth adding here that not every typeface will render well at a single, specific small size, like 10px. Particularly at small sizes, different typefaces have different "sweet spots". So a typeface that renders horribly at 10px may actually look quite decent at 9px.
JonR001: If you don't have it already, I highly recommend The Complete Manual of Typography by James Felici (published by Adobe Press!). It's extremely thorough yet readable. I purchased a second-hand 2003 edition at my local bookstore as the more recent updated version seemed to disappoint a lot reviewers.
I suspect that what you're noticing is, in part, an outcome of history. As I understand it, Adobe built its empire on print and making technology that allowed for the production of high-quality print materials. The computer display was just a weigh station in that process, not the final goal. By contrast, Apple and Microsoft have always placed a higher priority on the actual screen output. It seems that Adobe has yet to come up with a way to incorporate both worlds within their software, in terms of typographical output. They're still hanging on to their successful, print-based system.
Let's also keep in mind that, for screen output, it's better to use actual text—rather than an image of text—for at least two reasons, the first being accessibility, the second being type rendering.
I've linked to this article elsewhere, but it's got some great insights into all that goes into rendering type on screen:
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/11/02/the-ails-of-typographic-anti-aliasing/
Interestingly, while doing some quick studies on this, I noticed that Photoshop's interface uses 10px type, but with subpixel anti-aliasing:
Yet Photoshop itself cannot produce this kind of output. (I suppose this is being generated by the Mac OS?)
I also found that, within Fireworks, the CS5 default Custom Anti-Alias setting—8x Oversampling, 192 Sharpness, 64 Strength—seemed to produce the best results:
Then, of course, there's the aliased type option, but that seems to be a sore subject. -
Original iPhone super slow on Wifi
Is this an upgrade problem? I thought it was because I moved to Europe and it was related to to that, but I did a search and noticed many people have same issues. My wifi is super slow on the internet, and even on loading mail, or sending: I couldn't get an pure text email out on wifi! What the ****? Any solutions? Tnxs!
I second this... everything was working fine on my home wifi. I had a iphone 4 and a 3g running without issue. Then I upgraded my wife's 3g to a 4 and now the wifi is slower than cellular data. for a while i couldn't even get on my wifi, after manually setting the wifi settings i was able but alot of apps just hang.
thoughts anyone? -
In the last few weeks my iMac has become super slow. Lots of spinning beach balls. Reinstalled Mavericks. Used Disk Utilities to verify and repair permission and verify disk. OnyX to clean up some issues. Minimized start Login items. Cleaned up old apps I wasn't using. Emptied Trash. Only one item on Dashboard.
Installed Etrecheck and have included the output. I'm hoping someone can help me out, before I do a clean install.

Help here would be sincerely appreciated,
My IMac is taking more around anhour to boot up with grey apple logo and spinning cog on screen, then finally booted is super slow (maybe 10mins to open an app....even typing has a 5 second lag before text appears)
I can hear a repetitive every 5 second ticking sound from hard drive
I tried verify disc and that seemed ok repair disc permissions found issues that it solved - sorry I didn't make a note of what it moved and sorted.
Is there a way to see if Ram rather than Hard drive is an issue or other suggestions?
My baby what's happened?
Thanks in advance
