Text resizing in Captivate 7

Hello, I have some Captivate projects that were built, I think in an earlier version than 7 (or I don't have the correct font installed?).  What is happening is that the caption text is larger than it should be and I need to reduce the size. Is there a way to do this without touching each caption one by one?

There were changes with Text in CP5, so if your projects were built before this is possible.
Check if they are using an object style, and if it is not overridden (has a + sign next to the Style name in that case)? Change the text properties for one text caption, and use the button to save the changes to that style.

  • Problem with text resizing and moving

After much pain with this issue, I'm going to ask for help.
The whole issue(s) resolves around text upsizing, changing and moving in Muse.
No amount of grouping, layering and locking has stopped this issue for me.
I don't have divs that are a pixel off and whatnot. This happens even when I have a blank site and I test it (as seen in the example pic below).
The majority of the time, this is an issue when viewing Muse created sites on Android, although text does move when viewed on iOS.
    Example 1:
I have a square div. I put text in the div that I want to stay contained in the div. Basic right?
View site on browsers and iOS devices it generally plays by the rules (although not always, there are some movement going on). When viewing this example text and div on an android device, the text resizes larger. This results in the text overlapping the div and moving EVERYTHING below it down. This makes it impossible to tightly design anything for a website.
I know Android has options within it for users to set text viewing size, but this worthless from a web designer standpoint. That is something I can't control.
    Example 2:
I have 1 text field and set the typeface to 15. There is nothing else on the page, just a background image (under "Fill"). Viewed on browsers and iOS looks fine. When viewed on Android this text balloons to some enormous size (25+) that makes the website utterly useless. This random resizing makes it impossible to design to.
    Example 2.5:
I take that same text from example 2, copy it into 2 of the same size text fields. They are placed next to each other, taking up the same width as Example 2. It now looks like 2 columns of text. Set the typeface to 15 again. I view it on Android and get the resizing issues from example 1 not example 2. It's noting to the extent of example 2 but like example 1, it still changes enough to ruins any design I'm trying to accomplish.
Is there any place in Muse to lock the text? I don't want to make the text into an image (obviously).
I been dealing with this in Muse for 6 months and haven't been able to find anything online or in forums about. I understand with the bevy of platforms out there nothing will look the same across the board, but right now I don't see how I can continue working with this issue.
Am I the only one dealing with this?
    Thank you for any assistance.

Welcome to the annoying realities of working with text on websites... Nothing you describe is unique to Muse.
Every browser has it's own text engine and thus each line breaks text differently. Even the exact same web page on the same computer with the same fonts will sometimes result in different line breaks in different browsers, or even in different versions of the same browser. It's just a side effect of the nature of determining a line break, where even the most miniscule difference in calculations can result in an entire word fitting, or not fitting.
There are two "tools" that are especially important to understand and use effectively in order to create designs that work as effectively as possible with the variation in line breaks from one site viewer to the next.
    Text Frame Height Always Matters
If a text frame is drawn to the exact height of the text wthin the frame, then any increase in the number of lines of text due to changes in line breaks will result in the text frame growing and other objects below the text frame being moved down.
If a text frame is drawn larger than the height of the text then when line breaks change the text frame won't grow unless the changes in line breaks are severe enough to result in the flowed text being taller than the text frame was originally drawn.
If you resize a text frame smaller than the text within the frame in Muse Design view, the frame will snap back to be large enough to accommodate the text, but a dotted horizontal line will appear within the text frame indicating the "minimum height" for the text frame. If line breaks change in the browser the text frame will grow or shrink in height down to the minimum height indicated by this dotted line.
Careful sizing of text frames can go a long way to creating a design that will continue to work well even when line breaks, and thus text frame heights change.
    Grouping Has Consequences
As part of the output process, Muse collections the objects you've drawn into a hierarchy of horizontal groupings, vertical groupings, or stacks. When line breaks change in different browsers and text frames change height, when the text frames are located in this output heirarchy determines what impact the change in height has on other objects (if any).
For example, if you have a layout that looks like a 2x2 grid of text frames, by default Muse will interpret it to act as two colums. So if the first text frame gets taller it will push the text frame below it down, but won't impact the location of the two text frames in the second column.
If that's not the behavior you want, the way to tell Muse to treat things differently would be to group the two items in the first "row". This would cause the top to to be treated as a horizontal group. If anything in the group grows taller than the group, the group resizes taller and pushes the objects below it down. Thus if the top to items are grouped, if either one of them grows taller than the group it would push both the text frames below downward.
The 2x2 grid is just a simple example of the concept. In most cases you don't have to do anything special to get the behavior you want, but it is important to understand grouping has this ramification. Grouping an arbitrary set of objects on your page can result in undesired behavior when text frames resize in the browser.
For the Andriod screenshot you've provided, I don't have an immediate explanation. For us to explain what's shown we need to know the exact browser, browser version, Android version and device the screenshot is for. It would also be immensely helpful to have the URL for the page, so we can attempt to reproduce what you're seeing and view the exact code involved.

  • Is there a way to excerpt all texts from the captivate course?

Hi all, can someone tell me whether there is a way to excerpt all texts from a captivate file? We need to convert all the texts on the screen to audio and insert the audio into each slide... Thank you for any inputs.

    Hi there
Try clicking File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions. That should produce a Microsoft Word document.

  • Changing text in a Captivate slide?

I thought I saw a demonstration in the past that
showed to the text within a Captivate slide could be modified. The
slide were imported from PowerPoint originally. Would I have to
delete the slide and recreate another one in PowerPoint and import
it? I hope there is an alternative to that. Anyone have any
    suggestions?
    Thanks, as always!

    Salim --
While you didn't really address me with your query, I can
    comment on a relevant workflow.
In very large project teams, the individuals doing the
software screen captures are not necessarily the Instructional
Designers. I often come across situations where the Instructional
Designer has created the basic content for a lesson using
PowerPoint (because that's the tool of their choice) -- but that
content needs to be blended with Captivate content.
If it were possible to bring in the text from a PowerPoint
project, then I'd no longer have to retype many slides of text --
and in the process, risk introducing typographical errors.
Those kinds of options remove workflow constraints that
frustrate customers. Some don't want to be forced to use a screen
recording tool to organize their material -- and the Captivate
users don't want to rebuild supporting content that someone
    upstream already put together.

  • Does Captivate 8 have any facility to allow users to see a word definition upon clicking/hovering over text in a Captivate project?

Does Captivate 8 have any facility to allow users to see a word definition upon clicking/hovering over text in a Captivate project?

You can have both clicking and hovering. But you need to add the definition manually for every such word.

  • Power Point slide resized in Captivate

    Hello Forum,
I'm testing Captivate 5 and am trying to convert an existing .ppt presentation into a Captivate module.
However, one slide in particular seems to have been resized in such a way that the image which would normally fit below the text in .ppt is now overlapping the text.  This only seems to occur on one slide and I cant figure out why.  I've included the script command to remove the playbar thinking that was the issue but, to no avail.
Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    RC

    Thanks Manish,
I've found that in trying to copy the slide for you, the problem was with my master template in powerpoint.  I was able to correct the individual slide and insert the .ppt page into the existing Captivate project and it works fine now.
    Thanks again,
    RC

  • Problems Resizing Project (Captivate 5)

I am running into a strange problem and I was wondering if someone knew why the following was happening.
    1) I capture my movie at 1280x720
    2) I save it and rescale the project to 889x500 maintaining aspect ratio (which for some reasons ends up being 883x497 after saving)
    3) I add the TOC in overlay mode.  The open/close TOC arrows appear over the browser "x" close button which was not clear so I resized the project so the open/close TOC arrows appear above the main movie (rescale project, uncheck "maintain aspect ratio", added 18 pixels to height, select "keep project the same size...", and positioned Bottom Center).
    4) In edit mode, my mouse and keystrokes look fine
    5) But when I preview or publish, my mouse moves what looks to be 18 pixels below where it should be.  Plus the background acts strange.  You will see in the screenshots below, in the upper left my mouse is clicking in the right place but the buttons are appearing 18 pixels higher (I think where they were originally located).  You will also see the typing appear below where it should be in the box (and what I see in edit mode).
Any ideas why this is happening?  Everything works fine prior to adding the 18 pixels to the top.
    Thanks!

In Captivate content when you capture typing text on the screen it ends up as a special type of object that sits on it's own hidden layer and is set to be positioned from the top left corner of the screen.  When you change this positioning reference by resizing your content, it doesn't affect the text typing layer in the same way as other content.  So you end up with this issue.
If you really MUST do all this resizing (which can also get you into trouble with other Cp issues such as ghost lines) the workaround for the typing text issue is to right click on the typing in Edit mode, convert it to animated text, and then position that as needed.

  • How to report text entries in captivate 5.0?

I need students to write in a Text Entry Box and I would like to see what they have said. I do not want to score them or anything like that, just want to recieve their entries. Please is there anybody who knows how I can do that in Captivate 5?

    Hello,
You can report entries of a TEB to a LMS, at least I'm doing that to our LMS. You will need at least one scored object to enable reporting, and will have to report on the level Interactions and Score.
    Do you use a LMS?

  • Multiple text boxes in captivate 5

I have several text boxes in a powerpoint slide in captivate 5. I would like for users to be able to fill in these text boxes in any order. I was able to do this in version 4, but in version 5, it only allows users to respond in the order of the text boxes. Is there anyway to correct this?
    Thanks!

Thanks Rod.  Great suggestion.  I actually picked up the widget on Thursday as the 'drag and drop' interaction was something I initially saw as the ideal route.
Its such a good tool and very simple to use.  There are one or two little additions I would like to see.  Unless you can already do this and I haven't quite figured it out.
    - The ability to place a drag item on alternative targets
    - allow the drag items to be visable after been placed onto target.
    Can this already be done??
I would certainly recommend the widget though. Its excellent.
I'm just getting around to trying some of the initial suggestions and will report back.
    Thanks

  • Imported PSD Files Are Being Erroneously Resized in Captivate 4

I am trying to import PSD files to use in my Captivate 4 project. I verified that the PSD image size is 800 x 600, and my Captivate project dimensions are the same 800 x 600. But when the import process completes, the layers are erroneously resized to smaller dimensions. I have tried the same thing on two separate installations of Captivate 4 on two separate PC's with the same results.
Here is a screenshot of the PSD file in Photoshop (image size = 800 x 600):
Now here is a screenshot of what the imported PSD file looks like in the Captivate project (screen size set to 800 x 600):
When I do the import, I'm selecting: File --> Import --> Photoshop File..., then I select the "As Layers" option, and do not check the box next to "Scale according to stage size" (I have tried using this option as well with the same results, although I don't believe I should have to rescale when the PSD image size and Captivate project size are the same.)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for such a prompt reply...the single .psd file with many layers is imported using:
    Import Kind: Composition
Layer Options: Editable Layer Styles; Life Photoshop 3D (although there are no 3D layers in the .psd...so I'm unsure if this default is needed?)
Oh!!  Never mind...I just tried Import Kind: Composition -- Cropped Layers and the layers were not cropped...kind of counter-intuitive since I would have thought "Cropped Layers" would crop the layers rather than the other way around.
Thanks for your help...if you just reply to this post I'll mark your reply as the answer, thanks for suggesting the direction to look for a solution, cheers!

  • Dynamic text resizes when loaded?

I made sure to set the stage to noScale but I am still having
a strange problem that is driving my nuts. If I make a static text
box it will not resizing when I compile and preview or upload the
swf. However, if I make a dynamic text box, the text size increases
slightly when i complile the swf. This makes fine tuning the layout
of web pages extremely difficult because what i see on the stage is
not the same size as what i see when the swf is complied. Has any
one else had this problem or know how to solve it because its
really starting to drive me nuts?

The only time you should see a size difference is when you
take text out of a movie clip that has been scaled. Hit Crtl-t to
get the Transform window and see if the object is %100

  • Having the same text resize bugs in Fireworks CS5

Yes, that's right, the same terrible resizing bugs, that I have complained about directly to Adobe MULTIPLE times have not been fixed.
Now we are told there is no patch coming to windows for CS4. Problem still happening. And its not just me.
So now I downloaded CS5 and HAD THE SAME ISSUES!
    Seriously Adobe, sort yourselves out.
At my blog here, you can see it well documented. Literally the same issue I have occasionally with CS4. UNBELIEVABLY.
    http://allaboutchris.co.uk/blog/2010/bugs-in-fireworks-cs5/
Adobe, when is it getting fixed?

I don't have any problem resizing the text with the Scale tool as long as I hold down the Control or shift key while pulling at a corner with the double arrow cursor. If you pull vertically or horizontally you get just the kind of distortion I'd expect. That's not a bug.

  • How to make the text resize to fit the window ?

    Hi,

  • Zoom as opposed to text resize

I have a website that will be viewed largely by older people and am quite aware of how to place a larger or smaller text size button on the site to enable the user to change the font incase they do not know how to do this using their browser.  I
am wondering if there is a similar script or tool that would zoom the entire page if they so wished as this would keep the layout looking as it should and increase the size of everything on the page.  Can this be done and in what browsers would it work?
    Pat

It can be done with Ems and a good deal of pre-planning.
I have a rough mock-up you can see:
    http://alt-web.com/TEST/Resizable-ems-test.html
The text size buttons contain JavaScript functions to switch between small (0.5em), medium (1em) and large (3em) text without the need for extra stylesheets.  As far as I can tell, this method works in all browsers.
