Text review nightmare

Hi guys,
Just a quick niggling operational question I wondered someone would know the answer to..
When creating scrolling text inside FCP, is it possible to stop the cursor moving back to the top of the page everytime I go to review how the text is looking?

Thanks. It seems like the only flexibility is clicking in the text field and pressing the down arrow to get to the bottom. Also if you drag the cursor through as if your highlighting it scrolls down very quickly.

Hello everyone,
I am really wanting to develop an online gaming review website and have some Dreamweaver/Wordpress/CMS questions i am hoping you can all help me with, thank you in advance for your patience as i am new to site development.
I am thinking of creating a review site which will involve me writing about 100 online gaming reviews, and then getting users to upload their comments/feedback, etc. Each of the reviews would be updated monthly with stats, performance, and other details. Each review would contain a text review, video review, and various images and screenshots. Integrating user-generated content will be a big factor.
I am trying to de-confuse myself with all the prep work around making sure i have the right tools and technology i need to be successful. Many people tell me i should use Wordpress due to the nature of my site, or at least a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver - not sure how that would work exactly. I dont want to be too dependant on just Wordpress because i want to be sure my site can be customized and i grow and enable more advanted value for my site visitors. ...i would love to have a members only area at some point in the near future.
Please see below for some questions running through my head:
1. Do i need a seperate CMS tool? ...and which may be best considering the nature of my site?
2. Should i use Wordpress instead? ...or a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver? - why should i use a combination of the two?
3. SEO is a major factor - does that make a difference?
4. My reviews will need to be updated monthly, so i will try to maximize the use of templates, etc. Do i need to create a dynamic site in Dreamweaver or will a CMS manage that?
5. Which options are best to avoid as much as manual coding as possible

Short answer: You don't need Dreamweaver. Simply install WordPress on your server and use it to build your site & add/edit content.

App Store: Where's the DEMO versions?

Hi All,
Am I the ONLY one that think it should be a piece of cake for Apple to enable a 1-2 week demo period of apps from the App Store?
I know, I know - it's only 1-5 bucks, but hey - maybe the app simply does not handle the data for Your country, or maybe it does not play Your favorite radio station.
Right now I'm holding back A LOT on the pay button, simply because the only info I have about an app is the screenshoots, the intro (selling) text + reviews (if there is any). I want to TEST the app before I buy it, and 1-2 weeks would be more than enough.
Let's hear it for a DEMO option for the paid apps!

That's an excellent idea. It would require cooperation from the developer to use the DRM API, and it would still be up to the developer if they wanted to offer a trial. Moving from Palm, where most apps had a trial period, I really miss it.

I only said "like time based publishing service", I didn't say that you should use it. I only wanted to say: Look at how TBP service works, the same idea could be the basis for your implementation.
Properties: Under System Administration -- System Configuration -- Knowledge Management -- Configuration -- Content Management -- Global Services you will find Property Metadata and Property Structures (with different subfolders). Just walk through them carefully to understand how properties are managed within KM. Once you got it, it's easy to implement/extend the given properties with your own ones.

Positioning quiz slide objects

I am working on a Captivate 5 project with many quiz slides. The quiz slides were put into the project by someone else. I need to move the various quiz slide objects (submit button, back button, clear button, question text, review area, hint caption, and so forth).
These objects need to be moved to the same position in all of the quiz slides. I've been moving these objects into place one by one and it is very tedious.
Is there a way to set up a style to move all of these objects on all quiz slides at once?

Each of the objects you mention on the quiz slide are a special type of object in Captivate.
So although Object Styles do not allow you to specify the X and Y coordinates of an object, you CAN just move one of these objects on one slide to the location you want them all to be, and then go to the Position and Size accordion in the Properties tab (Transform accordion in Cp5.5), look for the small dropdown in the top right corner of the accordion, and choose the option to Apply to all items.
The name is a bit misleading because it make you think this will actually apply the positioning setting to every item in the project. But the fact is that it will only apply it to items OF THE SAME OBJECT TYPE. So although you would never do this for something like text captions in the main part of your project, you can safely do it for things like Submit, Clear, Back, and Next buttons in quiz slides because each of them are actually totally different object types as far as Captivate is concerned.
Note also the option to Apply to all items of same style. This means you can create custom styles and apply them to just certain buttons or captions if you only wanted SOME items to be positioned in a certain way, while all other items should retain their original positions.

Why can't I place an html snippet where I want it?

I am trying to place a snippet at the bottom of one of my pages. I save the page. Publish it, and when I view the page after refreshing, it is somewhere else entirely, covering up text on another part of the page. Thanks in advance for your help. Have you tried putting the snippet in the page's footer? If you don't see the outlines of the various sections of the page use the View ➙ Show Layout menu option to see them.
If all you're doing is using the snippet as a hyperlink to that page why not add the text Review Creative Weddings of Southern Maryland-Joe Orlando, Reverend at WeddingWire at the bottom of the page in the same text box, format it with the size and font (use Web Safe Fonts) you want and then use that text as a hyperlink to the site using the Inspector/Linik/Link pane. You can also set the color, rollover and visited color in the same pane.

Can anyone recommend tips and best practices for FrameMaker-to-RoboHelp migration ?

Hi. I'm planning a migration from FM (unstructured) to RH. I'd appreciate any tips and best practices for the migration process. (Note that at the moment I plan to import the FM documents into, not link to them from, RH.)
For example, my current FM files are presently not optimally "chunked", so that autoconverting FM file sections (based on, say, Header 1 paragraph layout) won't always result in an optimal topic set. I'm thinking of going through the FM docs and inserting dummy paragraphs with a tag somethike like "topic_break", placed in more appropriate locations that the existing headers. Then, during import to RH, I'd use the topic_break paragraph to demark the topics. Is this a good technique? Beyond paragraph-based import delineation, do you know of any guidelines for redrafting FM chapter file content into RH topics?
Also, are there any considerations/gotchas in the areas of text review workflow, multiple authoring, etc. after the migration? (I've not managed an ongoing RH doc project before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, the main reason for the migration: Info is presently scattered in various (and way to many) PDF files. There's no global index. I'd like to make a RoboHelp HTML interface (probably WebHelp layout) so it can be a one-stop documentation shop for users.

Fm may produce better output for your requirements but for many what Rh produces works just fine. My recent finding re Word converting images to JPG before import will mean a better experience for many.
Once Rh is set up, and it's not difficult, for many its printed documents will do the job. I would say try it and then judge.

Applescript: Tuning comment' content in MS Word

I am trying to add comments into MS Word document with Applescript.
I can inser tcomment itself with deriverd from this forum sentence:
make new Word comment at selection with properties {comment text:"review this"}
Then I need to change color of text in this comment. The obvious way is to get reference to this freshly created comment, extract
get comment text property as text object and set up font properties to that object.
But I cannot figure how to get reference to this comment. I tried:
          set anchor to make new Word comment at selection with properties {comment text:"review this"}
and anchor is set to:

My question is - how to get reference to the Word Comment object created in my Applescript? I cannot use list with all comments (last fragment) because I don't know where exctly my last command is in this list. I cannot distinguish it by texts, because several comments can contain the same "words" but should be of different colors.

IE 8 / Vista not recognizing submit button

Here is the code for a simple form at http://www.versaframe.com/catalog/button.cfm. When you first visit the page you should see a Review Order button. After pressing the button you should see the text "Review". This form works fine except when using IE on Vista where it does not appear to recognize the Submit button. Also this form works on other servers, so I think it may have something to do with the server configuration. Can anybody help? Thanks!

Also as a basic start:
Use a client-side browser debugger such as Firebug or Internet Explorer's Developer Toolbar to look at what the client is actually sending and what response is actually received.
Examine any server logs. Set up a test case, tell the IT folks to start the tape-recorder , mash the ol' button, and a few seconds later tell 'em to hit the stop-button on the recorder and send the log snippet to you.
One thing that is absolutely true about a problem like this is: you gotta see it. "Put your eyeballs to it," and when you do, it ought to be fairly obvious. Until then, though, you're just shootin' blanks. There are too many possibilities to "guess."
There are also going to be lots and lots and lots of "red herrings." IE8, for example, is probably a herring. So, probably, is Vista. They may be perfectly valid correlations but it is highly probable that they don't have anything to do with it. They just make it all the more difficult to eyeball "the one clue that cracks the case wide open."

Please do something with this or at some point it is going to be noticed widely by the whole developer community as a standard behaviour in the Windows Phone Store. Maybe you should have some audit in review team, because the scenario for duplicator is always
the same - same screenshots (one silly screenshot), description (like "This is puzzle game, make it smart, make it clever") and 5 stars from about 50 people without any text review (this is not possible, probably this is a farm of Windows Phone accounts)!!!
After the duplicator make sure that it is in New+Rising, he replaces screenshots and review to desired...
Not only my work is cloned. How far I have found more than 5 other games, released always by another publisher but in the same manner.

Go to the 'All support options' link below and raise a support request (the options are vague, and there isn't an obvious choice for your issue, however).
You won't get much help from this forum as it's specifically for development, and your issue is with publishing/fraud.
It is likely that Microsoft sent a request to the publisher to pull their app, and gave them some amount of time to comply. If this is the case they may have taken action, but it takes time. It is odd that they haven't responded to you though, as this is
a serious issue. Did they give you any kind of incident number you can follow up with?
Microsoft naturally can't do much about the other games you claim are binary copies unless their publisher(s) make a complaint.

Hype widget; audio won't play when previewing on iPad

I've come across a strange 'bug' in iBooks Author. Hope someone can help.
I made a widget using Tumult's Hype software. It has multiple scenes, audio and animated text. When previewing the widget in Hype everything works fine. But here comes the strange part;
When I insert the hype widget in an empty iBooksAuthor book the animation and audio works fine when previewing on my iPad2. But when i insert the widget in my iBook, wich has already ten pages filled with text, reviews, etc., the animation work, but the audio won't play when previewing on my iPad.
People from Tumult helped me, but were not able to fix this.
So in an empty book the widget from Hype works fine, but when inserting the widget in a book that has some pages the audio won't play! How can i fix this?

How to change the answer text within the review widget of iBooks Author?

I want to change the answer text which appears after one has finished a test within the review widget of iBooks Author, but I can't figuere out how to do that.
I also want to sum up the result of a couple of questions as a percentage. How does that work?

Notice the answers inside the widget, each with a circle to the left - tap on one of those, which will then appear green with a checkmark in the center to indicate the correct choice.

Bugs iBooks Author review widgets and text sections

This week since updating software iTunes and on iPad 3 using Mac bookpro with Mac OS 10.7.5 the review widgets in iBook Author has a bug, which removes part of the questions and part of the answers. I am using the most recent version of iBooks Author.Any suggestions or advice? Also, another bug is that text sections have been affected to some degree with sections of sentences removed.All other wigets are running normal.

I also had this issue, particularly in the Review and Pop-Over widgets. Sections of text were absent only when I previewed on iPad or Mac. This occured on OS X v10.9 Mavericks for me, so it does not seem to be isolated to one operating system. I was also running the latest version of iBooks Author.
I was able to resolve this issue by rewriting the text in slightly different wording. Simply deleting the text and replacing it with the same text did not help. I had to actually rewrite different text that basically meant the same thing. I was not able to figure out what about the origional text was causing the problem. Try typing a variety of different sentences. Chances are, some will cause the error and some won't.
