Text Run Off

Hi,
I'm new to CS4, and kinetic Typography, so I was wondering if someone could point me in a direction to a tutorial relating to the creating technique used in the video below :-

Probably not, though just as well you could of course convert Text to outlines and animate the anchor points of the resulting masks/ shape layer paths. It would just be considerably less efficient than having a solid with a linear wipe... Or you use effects like Minimax to extend... See this project for some idea on how to use it...

I have finally cracked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The issue is definitely with Java Sun. "Uneven character spacing when printing JTextComponent"
It is raised on the http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6488219
And currently in OPEN state, and raised on 31 Oct 2006 and mentions it was caused by fix 4352983.
So where do we go from here. It's not good because I have tried all later version of the JVM and the issue is still there.
Why? Because it hasn't been fixed yet. Read the bug report above, as it gives more insight -- and mentions the workaround is NOT good for existing code.
So the way forward is to use an earlier version of the JVM 5.
I download the JVM version 1.5.0 (starting version) and works Ok... I would probably think version prior to 4352983 would be Ok too.
Please vote for this.... We have a workaround (use older version of the JVM).

Text running off the bottom of the area.

Hi again, i know you guys must be getting sick of me by now bu i have yet another small problem.
When i am populating my pages with text and image the content is running down the page and over my footer, is it possible to keep the content within the area of the gray box and have it scrolling?
im not sure how well i have explained this so here is an example:

Text and/or repeating frames run off page ...

Please help. It's very hard to believe that Oracle Reports 6i does not have a way of keeping text and/or frames from running off the physical page. My frames and text boxes have thier vertical size set to variable, and I have set page protect to yes, although this does not seems to help.
Will setting the page length to the correct number of lines in between the margins help, there must be a way of keeping this from happening.....please help!

by setting the frame elasticity to variable, you allow the frames to shring and expand regardless of the page-size. to restrict it to a specific page size, the out-most frame must represent the boundries and must be set to fixed.

JUmbled text in Safari, and it runs off the page and behind images

i have a really annoying problem that is only happening in Safari under every user on my computer.
I have been to the Apple store and they have tried to fix it, but it perplexed everyone there I guess,
either that or the fact that it was 8:30 and they close at 9... go figure. Anyways- When in Safari on
certain websites that are heavier on text the words displayed in the headlines or body copy overlap, become jumbled, and run off the page.
As I am typing this it is not letting my words wrap to the next line in the text box, I have to hit enter
everytime I want to go to a new line. This problem is getting so annoying, and I am on the brink of
switching to Firefox but I love Safari so much more. Can someone please help? I have already look
at the " never display fonts larger than____ option" I am hopelessly in need of some advice. Thanks

Text runs of the page / doesn't resize with window

Hi,
I have seen this before but cant figure out how to fix this:
In Mail and other applicaitons that involve typing text the sentenses run off the "page".
When I resize the window the lines dont' adapt to the window.
I am stumped, please help :-)

How do I change the compatibility view so that my words are not running off the page?

I do data entry and in the system I am working on the words are running off the page. In internet explorer there is a little broken page on the tool bar that lets you change the compatibility and I am not finding anything like that with firefox. Please advise how I can change the setting so that the words will wrap correctly.

As far as I know, Firefox doesn't have a similar compatibility feature.
I assume this system is not accessible to forum volunteers, so I'm going to ask you to do a little sleuthing. I assume you are entering text in a multi-line textbox (an HTML <textarea> control). Could you do the following:
* Have your text entry form open in one tab, and a reply to this thread in another tab.
* Right-click in the control that doesn't wrap and choose Inspect Element. A small pane should open with part of the HTML highlighted in blue.
* Right-click the highlighted <textarea> tag and choose Copy Outer HTML.
* In your reply tab, paste the HTML, and remove the leading < character to avoid messing up your post. This will show any legacy settings on the tag that might be affecting how it wraps.
Here's an example using this very box:

If it's not a textarea, then that would be useful to know as well.
* Back in your form, you may or may not have a pane to the right that shows various style rules. If not, click the Style button at the lower right to open it. Look for any rules with the '''white-space''' property (the properties normally appear in colored text). If you find one, right-click and choose Copy declaration line. Switch back to this tab and paste the rule.
With that information, hopefully we can find a workaround.

How to set Lion built-in FTP Server auto run off

Hello all.
I set FTP Server by using Rumpus Server application.
But Lion's built-in FTP Server is running on the front.
So if I try to connect my FTP Server out of my LAN, I can only connect to the built-in FTP Server despite I wanted to connect Rumpus FTP Server.
It can be solved by unload the built-in FTP Server(using sudo -s launchctl unload...) but every after rebooting I should set it because it is set to run automatically in every booting.
How can I set the auto run off?

well, the ftp server (=ftpd) takes account info from the user list for your mac. so, go to the system settings on your mac, then to users, and then just add another user with a password of your choice (tap on the little plus-sign to add a user!). this will then be a valid user for your ftp server after you restart your ftp server.
the other thing you want to do, about the home directory, is called chroot. you can set the home directory of a specific ftp-user to be another directory then the standard. for this, there are configuration directives in the configuration file in /private/etc/ftpd.conf which you have to edit by hand. so make sure what you do there.

Can connect to wireless network run off dell router, but not internet!

I have a iBookG4 and have moved to a new apt with a wireless network run off a dell router/ comcast. My roommates have both Macs and PCs and can connect with no problems. I found the network on my airport and put in the password, joined network no problem, but cannot connect to the internet. The Airport status is yellow and says that Airport has self assigned IP address and cannot connect to the internet. I can connect fine to other open networks in the area so its not my computer. I tried to copy the IP address from my roommate manually to the network settings but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong? No one here seems to recall how they set up the network and I am paying for a network I can't access. Please help!!!

Does the dell router have an access list set-up?
With an access list (depending on the router) it can be set-up to allow access for only certain MAC addresses. If your MAC address isn't in the list, you'll not get on.
Usually the router will have an IP address itself of 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 - depends on the router. You should be able to determine it from the IP address your computers are getting. Try getting someone to connect to this through a browser, and check/change the configuration of the router directly.

IMac drive failure? Consider running off a Firewire 800 external

This is an informational post, but worth sharing I believe.
My 2009 iMac 1TB Seagate (ST31000528ASQ) has failed.
For the SECOND time. When the first one failed at 1.5 y Apple charged me $200+ ($40 service, which is a bargain, and $160+ for the drive which was excessive) to put this one in. I was later reimbursed when Apple extended its recall range.
Now, at age 1.5 y, the second one of this wretched line has failed. I could pay another $200+ to Apple, assuming they'd still service my 4 yo iMac. Or I could bit the bullet, pay $650 for an SSD, and then pay $240 for an independent to work on the disgustingly unserviceable iMac. With the SSD I'd probably extend the machines useable lifespan another 2 years, and I'd get far higher reliability. The latter is very important to me.
Except, there's another option. One that is much cheaper.
My drive wasn't quite dead, so I was able to use Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable external drive. It sits in a Firewire 800 cradle, I used a 7200 rpm 1TB Samsung - one of my offsite backup rotation drives. I booted off this drive and use Disk Utility to unmount my internal. I figured I'd do this while I decided which option to pursue.
Weird thing is, the iMac 2009 works rather well this way. If anything, it's FASTER than it was running off the internal drive. Aperture is MUCH smoother.
If your internal drive fails in this old machine, I think switching to a fast, big external drive is a good option to consider.

Since the Mac is set to boot off the external, i was suprised a complete failure of the internal would make a difference. How does that happen? (I unmount using Disk Utility, it presumably remounts when I restart. But I supposed if it died it couldn't remount :-).

Why do double-sided copies run off the edge when single-sided do not?

Hi...
I just made a document in Pages that is essentially one big table (or in other words, a spreadsheet without having to purchase Numbers). When I print it as single-sided, it fits perfectly on the page. But if I click double-sided, without changing anything else, the left margin runs off the page. The nature of this is such that I don't really want to significantly reduce the size. Is there some trick to this, or do I just have to remember to print it one-sided?

There should be an arrow, to get more choices to show. Also the checkbox is just showing you the current selected, you change the setting by touch the big icon, not the checkbox. The touch panel is not a high resolution one, so try to touch the checkbox, result in the icon being selected, that's why the setting didn't change. Try find the 1:1 icon and touch that.

Trying to configure Portal to run off the network

Hi all,
I am trying to configure Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8.2 to run off the network. I have taken all of the recommended steps in terms of configuring hostname, using a static IP, running and checking the ssoodatan script, updating the hosts file, and configuring a loopback adapter, but can still not make it work. The Portal works and functions fine when connected to the network, but as soon as disconnected from the network Portal returns
Error: Timeout occurred whilst retrieving page meta data 0 ms.

Sometimes it will display the banner, but the Portlets and the Providers will instantly timeout. I have cranked up the timeout levels of JServ and the Providers but to no avail. I have put the recommended timeout, stall, requesttime, buffer, minStall, minTimeout in the zone.properties file, but no luck.
I have noticed within the jserv.log the error message below. The link that jumps out at me is UnknownHostException: www-proxy.us.oracle.com. I did have my proxy server set at one time, but I erased it from the global settings page, and I ran the procedure I found somewhere on this discussion board to make sure it was set back to null. When I run the diag.cmd program it shows my proxy server being empty. Where could this be picking this up from, I also have proxy servers turned off in my browsers. Any suggestions or help??

I think you must add an entry to your /etc/hosts file, as follows:

and create a vhost entry on /etc/httpd/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts

Although I'm not sure if the vhost is actually necesary, but it won't harm.
pd: if you use vhosts, remember to uncomment "Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf" con /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and restart apache

How do you fix a problem where document pages open that are too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor? The borders are off the monitor so there is no window edge to grab and adjust.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
