Text saved as gif or png, when place over web graphics, has jaggies

Hi !
I'm new here but I've been using PS for years. What I want to know is this:
I use PHPbb forum software a lot and I am wanting to modify a logo on the top panel where I created a purple gradient as the header. on the left hand side I created a simple text in gif format that said "Test Site" These word are in white. I created the gif like this:
1) I created a new file as RGB, Transparent background.
2) Using the text tool I typed in "Test Site" on two different layers.
3) I chose IMAGE ->MODE->Indexed Color
4)In the dialog box box I chose the defaults ie:
Palette: Exact
Colors: 218
Forced: Web
Checked box: Transparency
Matte: None
And the rest were grayed out.
When I did a refresh on the website, my logo appears but it is not sharp and clean as it was in PS but rough and jaggie.
What am I doing wrong?
The same thing happens if I create a file in DW, create a layer with a background color and place the gif or png on top of the bkgd color.
I am using PS cs5 and viewing with Chrome. You can view the website at:

Thanks,
Paul

Welcome to the "wonderful" world of web development where the display of images is occasionally still in the 1990's!  You have encountered one the more annoying issues with certain web browsers:  Partial transparency barely works (especially in IE6 and earlier).  Transparency is also known as the "Alpha Channel".
GIF images have been around forever and no one thought far enough ahead to create partial transparency options for them.  They are really only good for rectangular, non-transparent images and small icons.  Use PNG and JPEG for everything else.
If you don't care about IE6, then you can save your image as a PNG and retain transparency information.  Firefox, Chrome, IE7 and later, and Safari all display transparent images without issue.  If you DO care about transparency in IE6, then you're in for a world of hurt.  Wikipedia has a bunch of "solutions" to the problem with each one having pros and cons:

  • Why are videos saved as gif's slow when viewed in browsers?

i can never find an answer to this, an seeing as how CS4 just came out, but is still giving me this issue there must be something new that i dont know about.
i play back the video in CS4 and its blazingly fast, faster than the actual video, i save the video as a gif, an when i preview it using the microsoft image previewer it plays back at normal speed just like the original video, but everytime i preview in a browser(IE8, FF3, Opera) they all show it running very slow, even after the video is fully loaded.
the only solution i know is to reduce the amount of frames to load when i first open the video but that makes the video look very choppy and not smooth.
ive seen gifs around the net that are very large(over 300px hight/width) and run at real time speed, but i dont know of any other program that allows you to import video and turn it into animated gifs.
    please help.

GIF is not a video format.
If something plays back faster than the original video (and then slower in a browser) then you have discovered just one of the faults of trying to produce video in a GIF file.
    Use a proper video format.

  • White line below png when uploading to web??

could anyone tell me how to get ride of this white line bellow this png image??
    cheers,
    sean

    Sean,
Because your image is a link, it inherits underline property form other links.  There's nothing wrong with your image, but you need to create custom style for that image link, something like:
    <a style="border: medium none;" href="/"><img src="http://i57.tinypic.com/2ywxro5.png"></a>
This is a quick try from Firebug add-on in Firefox.

  • HT201317 i no longer have an iphone and would like to view my saved pics on icloud from when i did. photo stream has no pics on it and my icloud storage is full. How to i veiw them please

    can anyone help

Photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  If it's been more than 30 days their gone now.  If it hasn't, you would have to set up iCloud on your PC as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html, then sign into your account and enable photo stream.
Camera roll photos would be included in your iCloud backup, if you had one, but could only be access by restoring the backup to another iPhone or iPod Touch.  Also, Apple deletes backups after 180 days of inactivity.

  • Your information could not be saved at this time even when its over 13.?

    help me

I'm experiencing the very same thing.  I assumed that the site was down, but it looks like there are multitudes of complaints about this.  What's up Apple?  I can't seem to find an answer to this online...  Thanks!

  • Logo image distored when creating a transparent gif and png

    Hi all,
Creating a logo for my department with little or no graphic design exp.  I'm experiencing issues when saving the file as a transparent GIF or PNG.  The GIF removes the 300 dpi setting that the print shop needs to turn this into a poster and the PNG is creating some jagged edges around my logo.  The image is 2000 pixels and about 7 in. by 7 in.
Any help would be appreciated.  I can email the PSD to anyone if they can help.  Here is the PNG:
    And here is the GIF:

There was no abuse, just an observation. Would an abusive person be trying to help you? Is there a crime in suggesting that one prepare themselves with more experience before taking on a project like this?
Aside from low resolution, there were a few other signs that you might be in over your head with a logo design. Logos are typically created in a vector program (not Photoshop).
I cannot imagine a reputable print shop asking you for a PNG or GIF file when there are so many better formats.

    David,
Have you put in a support ticket for this? I recommend doing so since its occurring in your production environment. You should also attach your log files as well.

  • Not showing image in basic copy gif image icon and place on html page

Trying to do a basic copy gif image icon and place it on a basic html page.
The image shows up in my local page and shows on remote side but when I go to view in browser it does not show as a image. It shows the border but no image.
The directions were (working with windows xp and IE8)
Download the image to your C:\temp folder.
    4. Copy the gif file from your C:\temp folder and paste it in the same folder where your .html or .asp file is.
I copied the image with right click save as in many different areas of computer. I even put on desktop.
I add image and it shows on the site I am working in but when putting to remote side it does not view as an image on the browser.
I have cleared cashe as well as pressed cntrl/refresh and still nothing.
    Other images work and show.
    on-line-vacations.com
    Thanks!

    Basic assumptions:
    You have Defined a site.
All files reside within the defined site (including image files)
All files use the appropriate file extensions, for example, image.gif
You have saved and uploaded all site files to your server.
You are EXACTLY naming the source image (no errant capital letters) in the link.
If your other images are linking properly and showing, delete this image and insert it again (or re-link it to the image file within your site structure).

  • Why Does Reading A Gif Or Png Containing Transparent/Alpha Pixels Fail?

I'm trying to read in gif or png with transparent pixels into a BufferedImage so that I can create a font inside of Java. Right now, I'm defaulting to the assumption that the background of the font image is white. However, I want to make it so that the font background is whatever pixels happen to be transparent. The images I'm reading in have only two colors: black and white. I set all the white pixels to transparent when creating the images in hopes that I could do a check for all pixels with Alpha < 255. I have tried numerous possible solutions, such as saving the png files with different applications, ImageIO.read, and Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage, and JAI.The types of the resulting BufferedImages have varied between TYPE_BYTE_BINARY, TYPE_BYTE_INDEXED, and TYPE_CUSTOM. What I want is TYPE_INT_ARGB so I can get the dang alpha pixels.
    1. Is there a way to read in alpha pixels of png or gif (doesn't have to be both) from within the main Java libraries as a BufferedImage with type TYPE_INT_ARGB? If so, how?
    2. Failing that, is there a way to read in alpha pixels of png or gif (doesn't have to be both) by using a decent external library as a BufferedImage with type TYPE_INT_ARGB? If so, how and with which one?
This has been frustrating the heck out of me, since I thought this was something very simple to do, but I've spent two days poring over the entire Internet for a possible solution.

  • ImageObserver, Printing, and saving as GIF

My application has a page containing photos (images). Not all of these can be seen without paging down.
When rendering on the screen, I use graphics.drawImage( ... ), which returns immediately and uses the ImageObserver interface to update the screen as more of the image arrives.
When printing to paper, by some 'magic', the whole image is rendered, even if it was not previously shown on the screen. I suspect that drawImage( ) somehow waits until the whole image is available, before it returns. I may be completely wrong here.
My problem is that I also want to save the images as GIFs. I create an off screen bufferedImage, and render them to that. The trouble is, if they have not yet been shown on screen, graphics.drawImage( ) is returning immediately, and I end up saving a GIF with no picture in it. This all takes place on a background thread.
Does anyone know any 'magic' that I can use, to tell drawImage that it is ok to wait until the whole image arrives?

You need to implement your own ImageObserver that will wait till it infoflags will have ALLBITS set and then draw ImageContent to BufferedImage (and print it).
Use Toolkit.getImage() and Toolkit.preprateImage() to trigger image load.
    Some subtle things:
    1) Do not use Toolkit.createImage() because it will not use cahced copy of image and will trigger new download
    2) prepareImage may return true if image is already prepared. Then observer will be never called.
Check for return code and call it explicitly.
Alternatively you may simply use ImageIO to load image for printing. This is very straightforward and ImageIO has generally better support for images. However, there is no way to reuse copy of image that was loaded for display, it will always load it again.

How can I hear text notification in Resound hearing aid when in vibrate mode?

You should turn off "Auto input monitoring". I only have L8 and there you find it under Options->audio->Auto Input monitoring. Would guess that its in the same place in L9

  • After Effects saving as .GIF

Hey guys! I just downloaded After Effects after I saw some cool tutorials, and I made a cool project for my website. But, the thing is, I'm having some technical issues. I need that project to be saved as .GIF, and the animation must repeat only once, not infinitely as other .GIF do. I can transform any movie to a .GIF that repeats only once using Camtasia Studio, but here's the problem, what movie extension can keep the transparency I want on my .GIF borders? I don't want a .GIF with black corners. If I save it as a PNG Sequence, I can't set the time I want between frames in Camtasia Studio. I know it's hard to understand cuz I suck at explaining stuff. Can you help me please? I don't have any idea what to do. After Effects can't save it as .GIF.

    Hi Guys,
Im having the same thing but the problem is, i dont have photoshop! the only photo editing program i have is Serif photoplus x4. could i do it with this?

  • Photoshop CS3 does not recognise gif or png

When trying to open a gif or png, I receive the message:
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file"
I am running CS3 and have just added the 10.5.3 update.

I have a similar problem that suddenly appeared. When properly working, I can save a tif file as a jpeg (or other)and the tag "tiff" will switch to "jpg" in the save description. That does not work anymore. A same example is when I save a Photoshop document as a "tif" or "jpg" or "png," the save description does not change any more to the appropriate form. Meaning, if I took a document named "Mydoc.psd" and tried to save it as a "jpg," I would scroll in the "Format" bar down to "JPEG." BUT, the title of the document will remain as "Mydco.psd." When I try to open it by double-clicking on it, Photoshop will not recognize it. I must open it thru Photoshop only.
    Got recommendations?
    Thanks anyone.
