Text search in Mail not behaving too well...

A powerful function in mail is the search loop. However since switching to Lion, I have noticed that it does not work for all words. This may have nothing to do with Lion and simply be that I only notice it now, but I know a word is in a few emails and when I type that in.. they do not list at all... with other words it does seem to function....

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

Old contacts showing up in siri and text search results but not in contacts list.

So what I did was this. I had mobile me, and iphone ocntacts as well as contacts on phone. After updating to IOS5, i had tripples of almost all my contacts (but not all). I converted my mobile me to icloud to discover i couldnt use that email under my new official icloud accoutn as my @me.com adress. So what i did was this. I deleted my old mobile me (now icloud account) compleatly from my phone, my iPad and my computer so there is no trace of it. I then went to my new iCloud account (that i will now use as my only icloud account. going to let the old mobile me one just die so i have 1 central spot for all my stuff). Now all my contacts are gone. So to start fresh and just be done with the confusion, i go to www.icloud.com and manually (by hand) re type in all my contacts. I updated some info and changed some names (like nicknames and stuff like that to real names). Basiclly compleatly organizing my contacts and such to the way i want them. Getting rid of poeple i no longer talk to and such. I did it, it syned and all was well. However now here is hte problem.
If i go to spotlight search, or text search, or search with siri, or any type of search function, all of my old contacts are still there and viewable. All the ones i wanted to get rid of are all still there. However, if i go to contacts and look for thoes old contacts, they are not in the contact list (yes iv checked every "group" and also "all contacts" in groups). What i want is to figure out how to get all of these old contacts compleatly deleated so they dont show up anywere on my phone. Especially with siri its making searches and auto calling more difficult because its finding two contacts sometimes that are the same person and asks me to distinguish instead of jsut calling. CAn anybody help?
Sorry for the wall of text, wanted to make sure to give as much info on the specifics as possible so hopefully i can get this resolved. Is this a bug or something i did wrong? can i fix it or do i just have to wait for an update?

Iv since upgraded to iphone 4S and still happening. Also this does NOT happen on my iPad. Only my iPhone.

Talked to AppleCare for about an hour. After trying many steps: deleting contacts, re downloading from cloud, disabling Siri and re enabling, even Reset all Settings. Nothing worked. Ended up having to restore the phone via Erase All Content and Settings. That of course fixed it.
Not sure what the issue was. I did have a Mobile Me account before the iCloud migration. For some reason, my contacts would appear in Contacts on the phone and in the cloud only once, but when using Siri it would list 2 or 3 duplicate contacts. Also after we deleted all the contacts on the phone, did an iPhone reset (Home and On/off buttons), my contacts list would show empty. Then I would click on Groups and poof all of a sudden duplicate or triplicate contacts would be in the contacts list.
Very strange.

Search in mail not working

I've just migrated my MacBook Pro across to the new machines, so have moved to Mavericks as well.
Historically, searching in Mail has been wonderfully simple. Type whatever you want and it lists what it finds. But Mavericks just doesn't come up with the results. - If I type in my name and "entire message" it gives me some but not all of my signatured messages.
- If I type in a name I know I've emailed in the past it will come up with no messages.
Have I got a setting I need to change over??

IOS8 mail not behaving

I updated to 8 a couple days ago, and now my mail application is not giving me options when I slide right; it's simply deleting the mail. I've lost a couple of emails that I really needed. Have not found them in the trash either. Anyone have this problem? Anyone have a solution?

When you swipe right to delete mail, try not to go all the way so you can see the option to delete to message or trash it. You can also change the action by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Swipe Options.

4.0 does not work too well...

Since downloading 4.0, I've had lots of problems with page loading, Trackpad gestures, scrolling. having to click a new page to make it active, pointer does strange things on any page and a host of other minor but none the less irritating issues.
I've had to revert back to 3.6.16 to get the browser to work again.
Sorry but I've gone back to using Safari as my default browser until these issues with 4.0 can be resolved.

Repeated clearing of the history and cache seems to have cleared up the problem. I still do not know why it reacted that way though.

MPG Conversions - Not going too well

One of the things I wanted to do with my Ipod was be able to show some of the movies I've made. To date the format that the movies are in is MPG (technically mpg2). After purchasing Quicktime in addition to the MPG2 conversion module (yes, I'm very happy about that one), Quicktime has never not crashed when doing the MPG2 to Quicktime Ipod format conversion. Are there any special steps, settings/procedures, folks to contact to convert to the proper format. Or more importantly, are there other products that I can use to get my movies onto my Ipod.

Heeded your advice and downloaded it late last night. Was able to to the conversion in about 2.5 mins. That was about three minutes before Quicktime usually choked and aborted. Many thanks and I liked your analogy. Could make it a rusty razor blade.

How to configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet (Oracle Text Search)?

I am using UCM 10gR3 with SiteStudio 10gR4. I installed the Oracle Text Search component and it is working well. One of the requirements for a search results page is the specific layout of the data displayed. srfDocSnippet returns a really ugly display if the search result return is just metadata. I didn't find any documentation in UCM on how to configure this display.
How to you configure what is displayed in srfDocSnippet?

Keyword Search using "Or" & "Not"

Is there anyway to use the Library Filter to generate a keyword search using an "or" statement? What if I want images that have disparate keywords and want all my images of "children" or "eagles"?
What if I want "eagles" but not "Washington State"

in the search bar if you select more than one keywork in a colum will work as a "OR" condiiton. a sort of
Search libray where keyword = children OR Keyword = eagle.
if you put the keyword childer in one colums and keyword eagle in other column will work as a AND statemen
Search libray where keyword = children AND Keyword = eagle.
The NOT statement can be used only in the text search !eagle = NOT eagle.

Contains/Beginswith Text Searchi in XMLTYPE

This is the XML doc i have,

I want to do name search with Contains() or BeginsWith(), Oracle text search, I m not to figure out the steps to create index for these kind of XML nodes. Can some one help me out on this?
It would be great help if you guys explain me with some example since i am new to OracleXML DB.

Actually in relational tables, we are having contains search right, in the same way i would like to search with name in XMLTYPE data like below.
SELECT empid FROM EMP_DOC WHERE Contains('/Node/id["Name"]/Node1/value/response','Raja')>0 -- This syntax may not be right, But this is want i want to perform.
To do this, we need Oracle text indexes ,If i search with name in Oracle XMLTYPE, it should be faster, this is my aim.
Can you please help me out on this?

NetBoot: full text search not available in Mail.app

Hi,
we got a NetBoot 10.5.2 image with a Mail.app IMAP account already set up.
When you do a search in Mail.app, the "Entire message" button is greyed out and not available.
This probably has to do with Spotlight not playing well in this circumstance...
There is a way to solve this?

It mostly revolves around fonts that can't be indexed by Spotlight, and that may be the case on your NetBook image.

Full-Text Search has not worked since we upgraded to 2012

I have a filestream database and table. Our full-text searches have always worked until we upgraded to SQL 2012 in December. Now, no file that has been uploaded since December is searchable. What has gone wrong here. It should have been
a clean upgrade. We are not getting any error messages. We are just not getting any records returned when we search on a word that we know are in the documents we've uploaded since December (for instance, the word 'aluminum').
Filestream is enabled for the instance.
A full-text catalog exists and contains a full-text index (the same one we've always had). Full-text indexing is ENABLED.
I've tried rebuilding the catalog and the index. I've tried to do a FULL POPULATION on the table.
We haven't changed our queries nor the way the files are uploaded.
Nothing works. I have been a database administrator since the SQL 2005 days and I have never seen anything like this.
Please help.

According to your description, in theory , if you can do a full-text search for SQL Server 2008, when upgrading the SQL Server version from 2008 to 2012, the Full text indexing feature should be run well in SQL Server 2012 databases. If not , you can try
to restore your database from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012, create an new Full-Text Catalog and Index on the table or view in the database, and then use Full Text Index to search words, phrases and multiple forms of word or phrase via FREETEXT() and
CANTAINS() with “and” or “or” operators. check if it is normal that the full-text search feature is enabled in the SQL Server 2012 instance. For more information , see:

Note: In SQL Server 2012 SP1 ， the server will report that Full Text Search is not supported in this edition of SQL Server when it clearly is. The workaround is to create the initial catalog by using a T-SQL query:

In addition, since it is a fileStream database, we need to verify if you do Full Text Searches on documents in FileTables, if yes, you should enable FileStream database for your SQL Server, and enable FileTable options for the database. For more information,

Searching in Mail AND Spotlight does not reveal BCC recipients

Dear Folks:
Searching in Mail does not reveal BCC recipients. I found a post pointing this out from 2006. There were no replies and you cannot reply if you try, it been "archived."
Does that mean Mail simply does not search BCC's?
What's really weird is Spotlight won't find them either.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a gap in the app?

Yeah and even worse, Spotlight does not store Cc mail adresses, too.
when you do an mdls on an emlx file there is only a recipients kmditem. the cc and bcc email adresses are not stored/indexes by spotlight. and can't be searched for!

The google and Apple website search results take me to the sme portion of OS 10,5's site, There I am told (or read) +"And everything you create in Mail — to-dos, notes, and, of course, email messages — appears in a Spotlight search of your system."+
Unfortunately, this hs been the case for me and if it truly does work, I would like to make it happen on my computer. Especially after reading this:+Integration with Spotlight, Coverflow. Since all my "stuff" lives in Mail and iCal, it can easily be found using Spotlight. Even cooler are saved Finder searches that display notes and tasks using Coverflow. (I create a tag by adding °, shift-option-8, to key words.)+
Has anyone else been able to get the mention spotlight functionality? All help will be appreciated.

Check System Prefs >SPotlight >Search Results. There, you check all the folders or areas that you want to appear in search results. This way, I guess, you can have parts indexed but not usually have to look at matches from those parts when you search, perhaps for speed or keeping down number of hits you have to review. On my new mac, Mail was not checked and I had the same problem. In theother part of the Spotlight Prefs, Privacy, you can exclude areas from being indexed at all.
BTW, we are mac and mastiffs too at our house, have eleven yr old ENglish Mastiff still holding his own as king of the place.
