Text security software update

For several years I have been working on an idea for a publication that would contain a lot of data tables, for which I need to be able to ensure my suppliers that the data will (within reasonable limits) not be able to be copied or distributed. The main data will be compiled in Excel, imported into Indesign then re-exported as a PDF.
It has been a few years since I last checked into protection software. And, yes, I am aware that as long as there is protection software there will be software made to remove that protection.

Adobe has some DRM software but two possible problems with it:
It may not work with Mac Acrobat
and its Expensive with a Capital "E"
Contact Adobe about it.

Not found in Contacts - erorr message when composing SMS text message after Software Update 1.07 Sprint Centro

After installing the "Software Update 1.07 (Windows installer) for Centro for Sprint" (Article ID: 6012 - http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/6012_en.html) starting from http://sprint.com/downloads, I noticed the stock Palm Messaging application that comes with the device did not work as it did prior to the update.
I was able to fix it. Here's what the problem was and what I did to correct it.
"Not found in Contacts" message appeared when composing and addressing a new SMS text message.
In the Contacts app, Options>Preferences, I simply reordered the contacts from "Last Name, First Name" to "Company, Last Name", and saved the change.
I then immediately went back into the same preference, and changed the setting back from "Company, Last Name" to "Last Name, First Name", and saved that change.
Going back to the Messaging application, when composing a new message, now the Contacts database is linked again. Whew!

Text Messaging Error & Software Update Error

I got the Blackberry Q10 on Saturday (6.17) and had some issues with text messaging, so I went to Verizon last night (6.17) after two days of having issues. They gave me another blackberry Q10 in hopes that my original phone just had a glitch in it, sadly I think its a glitch in the phone. I love blackberries, but if this issues isn't fixed soon, I am afraid I will have to leave the Blackberry world which I have been apart of since the pearl.
So what are my issues, they vary, but to name a few...
1) When I send a text message it does not appear in the text message screen (when the receiver did receive the message) as well as I am not getting the receivers response back. (unless I search the receiver's name)
2) When I restart my phone, the sent message appears as well as the received message, but when I open it, it is not clearing saying the message was opened.
1 and 2 are very frustrating because I am missing text messages and not receiving them until I restart my phone, which I should NOT have to do. I am receiving e-mails with no problem.
3) When I check for a software update it is showing one (10.1.0. 2038), so I click the update to update my phone and it downloads it within a few minutes, but the software is not being added to my phone, because under the "system setting" tabs, under the "about" tab, and under the "software release" section it states that I still have software 10.1.0.2011. As well as, after I download the 10.1.0.2038 and search again to see if I any software updates available, it says I do and I go through the process again of downloading 10.1.0.2038.
Please someone help me as to what is wrong! Thank you!

In order to resolve all of these issues, could you please try to update your BlackBerry Device Software to the latest available version by using BlackBerry Link? Since the software update my photo from LinkedIn now is attached to all of my text messages and I DO NOT WANT THAT. How do I remove my photo from my test messages?

Anyone know how to remove your own picture that is now attached to all text messages? Since the software update (assume KitKat) my LinkedIn photo is now attached to all my text messages and I never set that up, nor can I figure out how to remove it!

Thanks, but this information was not useful. First it was outdated (2012 and the software is 2013/2104) in the Settings/Apps/All section there was no "Text Messaging" icon. Under "Phone/Messaging" the clear cache was not possible, it was not available, an active option.
VERIZON/GOOGLE - I am still hoping to learn how to remove my photo from my text messages - why is this so difficult? Why is something like this added without my permission or at my request? May be a reason to jump ship to iOS.

After AVG PC Tune up, software update message for security and stability update is available FireFox 3.6.18. Should I Update?

My Dell laptop (Operating on Windows XP) was hit with multiple viruses - I could not open Mozilla Firefox or any other applications for that matter. After much time and many attempts, I was finally able to install and run an AVG Scan and then an AVG PC Tune up. 4,559 problems found and repaired. After the repairs, I received the following message:
"Software Update - A security and stability update for Firefox is available: Firefox 3.6.18 - It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible. - an underlined link reading, "View more information about this update" and then 2 choices - "Ask Later" or "Update Firefox." Since part of the problem was with Firefox and some error messages pointed to that, I'm hesitant to click on any of the three options above. Can you help me to get past this error message, please. Sometimes the updater gets in a funny state - Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the full installer. Close Firefox and run the installer

No fix is needed since that vulnarability isn't in 4.2.1.

Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!

I get an update server error message when i try to update my phone. I've uninstalled iTunes and all related software in the proper order and then reinstalled with security software disabled. no what?

I could use some help. Apple support walked me through the uninstall and reinstall of all iTunes and Apple files in the proper order with my security software disabled. I still get the following message:
"The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
Any ideas? I'm on a Dell i5 Core with Windows 7.

Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data. Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!

Netscape cursor/text problem after Software Updates

A friend of mine recently ran Software Update (3) updates and ended up with a reasonably serious issue with Netscape which he uses for e-mail. Here's his description...
"I did a routine Apple update the other day:
Mac OS X Update (Power PC) 10.4.6
QuickTime 7.1.1
J2SE 5.) Release 4 4.0
Since restarting after that update, the screen display of text in my
Netscape email program has been damaged. Trying it a second time with
the update combo did not help.
The main complaint is that I cannot see the current or previous
characters being typed, nor the cursor itself, nor the end of the line
after an automatic return. Ends of lines are replicated for some reason,
cluttering up the typing window.
A couple of indications of how screwed up it looks: notice the font
gibberish below the text, every touch of the return key yields an
apostrophe, and then there's the other clutter that appears below and
around the signature.
When I do spellcheck, some (but not all) of the stuff disappears.
The spellcheck itself doesn't catch many errors anymore. .

Does anyone have any guesses what might be wrong? I had him run the 10.4.6 Combo Updater as occasionally the combo fixes issues with Software Update versions. It made no difference. Unfortunately, even though I've preached having an external backup prior to any system upgrade, he has not yet done so. His computer is the 17" Flat Panel iMac 800 mhz.

Did your friend check his hard drive for any directory problems with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from the Tiger install disc before installing the 10.4.6 Update and other updates and were all running applications quit before the install - namely Netscape?
As a first step, I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided including using a system and user cache cleaning utility.

Apologies I didn't word my question correctly...I meant how do I update exhisting security software on my mac. I have not purchased additional software. Thanks for your reply. Basically my concern is that I have unknowingly exposed my computer to a virus. I had a hoax skype call come through "ONLINE NOTIFICATION" and I answered it. It told me that my computer was not protected and there was a security threat- and to visit their website. Which I did in my initial moment of panic. Quickly realised that it was phony and that any notifications would not come through skype, duh. I am worried that I have now exposed my computer by visiting the website.

In MountainLion System Preferences, "iCloud", "Mail, Contacts, and Calenders", and "Software Update" all want to open in 32 bit mode. Security and Privacy won't open either.

Then when System Preferences quits and relaunches IN 32 bit mode, I get a dialog box saying "You can't open (pick one) preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac." Moreover, Security and Privacy does the same thing only without the song and dance about quitting and reopening.
Whaaaaat???!!! I've never owned anything BUT an Intel Mac.
The "open in 32 bit mode" is not, and has never been checked in "Get Info"
I tried going to ~Library/Preferences and tossing all com.apple.system preferences files and rebooting. No joy.
It actually looks like some joker has included a bunch of PPC preference panes in my copy of MountainLion, except some of them are new to this OS.
My hardware is a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro with4 gb of RAM, and a 500 gb hard drive, in three seperate partitions, running three Mac operating systems, one at a time. I have SnowLeopard in a small partition because I still have a few things that don't run in Lion/ML. Lion is still my main use machine in the largest partition, and when ML came out, I redistributed most of the unused space into a 3rd partition into which I did a clean install of ML in it's own partition so I could work through the growing pains without compromising my main computer. I'm glad I did it that way, but I DO want to get ML working properly, and I can't do that if I can't authorize third party software. Gatekeeper is currently in the way, and I can't get it to move.

I dunno, that doesn't make any sense to me.
I just shut down and rebooted into the SnowLeopard partition and took a peek at the preference panes. There are only 3 that run in 32 bit only. They are all 3rd party, and none of the prefpanes are non Intel. Like I said, I have never owned a PPC machine. Anyhow, SnowLeopard doesn't even have an iCloud prefpane, or a combined mail, contacts, and calenders prefpane, and the ML security and privacy prefpane is all new as well. The software update prefpane is Intel and 64 bit in both SnowLeopard and Lion.
As to the triple boot, unless I'm totally mistaken, what I have here is, in essence, 3 seperate descrete computers in one box. All using the same hardware. but one at a time. I wouldn't know how to get more than one running at the same time, without using a virtual machine, even if I wanted to. (Which I don't) I do sometimes transfer files from one to another using the shared folder, but other than that, they do not interact. How could ML system preferences be trying to launch prefpanes from a totally different machine?

HT2497 secure connection for software updates

Several days ago, I began to do a software update to see if there are any updates for the OS. I have done this many times over many years. When I began an OS software update several days ago, I got a mesage that said, more or less, that a secure connection could not be established or verified. My computer asked me if I wanted to proceed anyway. I did not proceed. I had never before gotten such a notice. A few days later, when I tried to make an SFTP connection completely unrelated to Apple, I got essentially the same notice and question. What causes these notices? Is this connection problem caused by a cracker, my computer, something wrong I did, the phone company, my ISP, or some other source? Can I identify the cause or stop the problem? Is there a security problem? If so, what's causing it?
The problem is stated above. Below, I give information which may be related.
In the Users and Groups preference panel which one sees when one creates a new user, there is no set of alternate images shown to the administrator. The new user automatically is given a log in image but the administrator is not shown a set of alternate images from which he may choose one. The images are in folders in root/Library/User Pictures but the images are not automatically shown to the administrator. When a new user is created, an image is automatically assigned to him. If one clicks that image, one sees three words: Defaults, Recents, Camera. Below those words, one sees "No Items". Two users have been given the same image. I think that this is evidence that my OS may be from a source other than Apple. I bought the computer with Lion. I downloaded Mountain Lion for free in the standard way over the Internet but it is conceivable that it did not really come from Apple, I suppose. I post this message because of the insecure connection problem which so far has occurred twice, once involving Mac OS software update.

Did you get it through the Mac App Store?
Or, did you get it from some other source on the internet?

HT1338 Software Update does not show 10.8.5 Security Update 2014-002

I continue to have Mac 10.8.5 updates which do not show in the App Store Software Update. In the past it was always iTunes which didn't show. Now it's this security update. Why would Software Update not show these available updates? Instead it shows Mavericks and such as available updates, but not the current available security update for my version of OS X. I'm only aware an update exists because of online forums. Is this a widespread issue that is affecting everyone on Mt Lion?

Already tried that. We set up iClound under a new user account and it did not work.
(We tested iCloud Mail with Apple Sr. support yesterday, in a new user account. It did not work. Note, iCloud via web access via Safari of course will work, accessible from any computer. That is not computer-specific. But iCloud mail would not work on my Mac, nor in the Mail app, even under a new test user account. This was mentioned briefly in previous post above.)
Regarding re-installing ML, Apple support have never suggested that. They have only suggested moving my current data to a new user account, which as I mentioned is not realistic, and now with the new iCloud problem across any new user account, would not solve the problem.
How do you mean to re-install ML? Erase the HDD, reinstall ML, then restore from Time Machine?
I think Apple has not suggested that so far because they believe the problem is in the current Mac data, user account, and not in the system. They have told me migrating to a new Mac or even to Mavericks probly would not solve the problem. But now that it's a systemic issue with iCloud -- my previous issues with Software Update not working and appeared to be user account-specific, and still are – perhaps replacing the system software or upgrading to Mavericks will be worth considering.
They are currently elevating my case to "engineering." They will be looking at system data, I believe...
It's incredibly frustrating.
