Text selection problems in Pages on iPad
I use Pages on an iPad, and have recently been having problems with text selection. If I press the screen on a word, that word goes blue but I can't extend the blue area beyond the single word. Usually the document freezes. Sometimes I can unfreeze it by continuing to press, but I still can't select the area required. Select all works fine. I have tried the same operation in Documents 2, and initially I had the same problem, but then it started working as usual. Has anyone else had the same problem? Advice would be much appreciated.

You probably have floating objects with text wrap on and are hammering away at returns, spaces and tabs to position text. The mix of objects and text are tucking in and around each other in somewhat unpredictable ways.
Cut the objects and paste them into the text to make them Inline and you might be able to position things more predictably.

Text selection problem in linked containers

I get a strange behavior on the selection of text in a textFlow with several linked containers (from the latest SVN version it seems).
The problem occurs on the following case: http://lafabrick.com/labz/tlfTest/ (source code enabled)
If I select some text in container D to A (or vice versa): display of text selection is correct.
The problems are:
- If I select some text in the containers B or C, and that I move the selection to the right or left: the container is moving ...
- If I select some text in the containers B or C, and that I move the selection to the up or down: the display of the selection is not normal (I have a "blinking selection")

In this case it's of course a bad news for me: my app can't takes all benefits of TLF for now (and for MAX...).
But a good news for all ! It means that TLF is perhaps soon to release !

Where did the text justification feature in Pages for iPad Doc Setup go?
In previous versions of Pages for iPad ( pre iOS8) there used to be text justification option in document setup mode. In latest version, 2.4.2, the justification feature is missing for the headers and footer . There does not seem to be any way to center my text in the header.

Thank you for the response, even if it confirmed my fears. I've had a go with the "Show Spelling and Grammar" and it is much less useful than the methods of 4.x
How dissapointing, as someone who regularly works with documents in multiple languages. What's worse: I cannot even open my old documents now in Pages 4.x once they have been opened by 5.0.

JeditorPane text selection problem due to line feeds and carriage returns
Hi folks,
I have a jEditorPane (text/plain) that contains a document in which the user has highlighted some text. I want to pull the selected text from the pane, do some processing on it, and then put the altered text back in the same position.
First I get the starting and ending position of the highlighted text
int mySelStart = myJEditorPane.getSelectionStart();
int mySelEnd = myJEditorPane.getSelectionEnd();Then I get all the text from the pane and (in theory) strip out the portion the user highlighted
String myPaneText = myJEditorPane.getText();
String mySelectedText = myPaneText.substring(mySelStart,mySelEnd);But the text string in mySelectedText never matches what the user originally highlighted. The starting and ending positions are off by the number of carriage returns that proceed the highlighted text in the document. It appears that while in the jEditorPane Java treats the carriage return as one characters, but once the info is in the myPaneText field Java treats the carriage return as two characters.
Has anyone encountered this before? Am I doing something wrong? To fix the problem I'm looping through the entire document to find out how many carriage returns proceed the highlighted text, but there has to be an easier way.

JTable Cell text selection Problem.
I am using Tab key while navigating with the Cells.While focus reaches into a cell,the cell is selected but not the cell content.So I use BACKSPACE to delete each word of the cell.I want to Select a cell content(i.e. Text) when I am move Tab keys to select cells.Please help me..........,u may send a mail at [email protected]
Do u need this feature to the whole table or else for the perticular cell in the table?
Are you using your own renderer or editor to the perticular cell ?,
this issue is related to Renderer and Editor, so if i know your requirement , then only it is easy to implement. -

Problem with Pages on the iPad 2.
Hi all,
I have been having a strange problem with Pages on the iPad that I hope someone can find a solution for.
As a writer, I find that Pages on the iPad is a very good solution to my problem of needing something small and light to transport around, whilst still allowing me to do some serious writing. I use the Apple 3 battery bluetooth keyboard, and this gives me a superb working solution.
I started using the iPad 2 to do my second book and for the first 40,000 words everything was fine. But as I started going back and forth with the cursor keys, editing passages in the book, I noticed that the cursor position did not match up with the I beam cursor on screen. As it transitioned between pages it would loose it's corresponding position and the entry point for new text could be up to six characters in either direction.
Now this is not a problem if you enter a new page, as there is nothing beyond it, but in the majority of cases it is a major problem when going back over your work and editing it. I have to manually reset the start position of every new page so as to garantee the typing will go where I want it to.
Now I thought at first this was something to do with Bluetooth keyboard, but after using the onscreen keyboard and the find and replace function, I have noticed that it loses it's position in the document in a similar way. I have included a screen shot of it finding a problem I was searching for. In this case it is ", and" to be replaced with "and," or "and". Clearly in the image you can see that it is not happy and is not selecting the right things, if I replace it will replace exactly what is selected.
Has anyone else seen this problem. It seems to happen with large or small documents and I think that this is a fundamental problem with Pages on the iPad. Seeing as I can't get Apple to acknowledge this I brought it here for everyone else to check out. If we get enough voices on this, then we can make change happen.That's right Br Abdullah, I'm finding the same problem with my itune Arabic library that I synced to iBooks version 1.5! As you say the pages are not arranged correctly.
The other problem that I'm finding is that the highlights & notes that i have made on the books on a previous version of ibooks, when synced with ibooks version 1.5, they are scattered everywhere, and sometimes in areas where there are no texts.
I left a message on the report a bug section of iBooks on the app store, and I contacted them on their feedback of apple product issues. I don't know what else we can do. It seems that no one is listening to us. I'm Dissapointed that I upgraded my iBooks version to 1.5; I was really looking forward to reading on my new iPhone 4S (on iBooks)!
What else can we do to get our concerns heared? Somebody? Anybody? -
In Pages for iPad, I couldn't wrap text(Chinese characters) around the image
Hi, a question about Pages for iPad. I wrote some words with Chinese characters and then inserted a image from the Camera Roll. The problem is that I couldn't wrap words around the photo. I tried again wrote some words in English and it's ok for wrapping. Why did this happen?

Anchor or free an object to or from its surrounding text:
Select the object, tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
To make an object move with the flow of text, slide “Move with Text” to ON.To make an object remain stationary, unaffected by changes in the surrounding text flow, slide “Move with Text” to OFF.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
Wrap text around an object:
Select the object and tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
Tap a wrap option to select it.Automatic optimizes text wrap for you, depending on the size and position of the object, and the width of the text column. Text wraps around an object, unless there’s very little space around the sides, in which case the text flows only above and below the object. Around lets you customize the text wrap around the sides, without automatic optimization. Above and Below allows text lines only above and below the object.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
This works for me. Restart your iPad if this does not work for you. -
I am trying to create a document in Pages for iPad and want to highlight various bits of text but can not find a function in the inspector for this. Can anyone help,please?

I'm not finding a way to highlight text as one can do with iBooks (hold and swipe for black text, background yellow for example).
One option is to actually color the text itself.
Select the text, then in Style tools, tap the Font name at the top which shows the Text Options sheet where there is a Color option. Would changing the font color to Red, Green or Purple accomplish your goals?
If you do want black text on a colored background (highlighted) it would need to be text in a text box where you can change the fill (background) color. Style, Style Options, Fill. But this is not inline text and doesn't flow like just coloring the font itself.

Selecting Multiple objects in Pages for ipad
On regular pages, I can select multiple objects (text boxes, etc) by holding shift then clicking on it. Is there a way to do that in Pages for IPAD?
With one finger select an object and hold with another finger select the other objects one by one.

Please help me !Ok, so I finally got it working but this is not ideal at all. Adobe really needs to give us some direction on how to properly deal with font embedding and TLF now that the release build breaks all functionality with loading runtime fonts and TLF.
Problem:
I am embedding collections of fonts (faces) into single family classes. Each individual face is registered with Font.registerFont(). I need to do this because I have to have mixed fonts within text flows - at least according to Alex H's recent blog post.
Fonts do not display in TLF without doing the following:
1. GlobalSettings.resolveFontLookupFunction = null;
2. editor.textFlow.flowComposer.swfContext = ISWFContext(this.getFontContext("AnyFamilyNameFromAnyFontEmbedded", false, false, FontLookup.EMBEDDED_CFF));
3. Instead of #2, use editor.textFlow.invalidateAllFormats();
Either #2 or #3 need to be performed. If I have a spark richEditableText control in MXML with defined familes from the loaded fonts. I even tried placing the control into a separate state so it wasn't created until after the fonts were loaded... I still needed to invalidate the formats or set the context.
The "AnyFamilyNameFromAnyFontEmbedded" does not need to be all of the embedded family names. It only needs to be one of them. Once one is used, all embedded fonts work. Also, I have to use the internal namespace to even get access to getFontContext, another oddity that, in my humble opinion, should never be necessary to create mixed style TLF content.
My questions are then:
1. Why am I required to use ISWFContext if I am using Font.registerFont()?
2. Why is GlobalSettings.resolveFontLookupFunction = null; also required for this to work?
3. What is the recommended workflow to embed fonts from multiple SWF files into the release build and have it work without having to jump through all these hoops? -
I have created a document using Pages on my iPad. I have typed a bunch of text and added a few pictures here and there, but there is a problem when I hit enter a few times to start a new page. When I start typing on the next page, all the text on the previous page shifts and everything looks messed up!! Why would the text be shifting like this? I just want to continue typing on the next page. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Text formatting in Pages for iPad 2
I am trying to apply text formattting within a document in pages. It will not allow me to format text within a sentence to bold or italics for specific words. The fonts in question do have these formats as options, but pressing the corresponding format button does nothing. I can change the style to lists, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
NeilIt is not built in, but you can at least create and edit footnotes (I do not use end notes, but from limited testing, it appears to work with endnotes as well but converts them to footnotes). It sounds complicated when you break it down into steps as I do below, but it really is easy and intuitive.
FIRST: The underlying concept. If you have the latest Pages for iPad, then when it imports a Word document it imports footnotes (and endnotes) and you can edit them.
With that in mind, here is how you can create footnotes on the iPad.
#1 In Word create a one short sentence shell text with a short footnote, like "See the cat run /fn1" "fn/1 The cat was black").
#2 Import that shell document into your iPad, say with email "open using Pages."
#3 Save that shell document as your sour dough starter so to speak.
#4 Now create your new Pages iPad document.
#5 When you are ready to create your FIRST new footnote, copy and paste the shell sentence with shell footnote from your saved starter shell document into your new iPages document.
#5. Edit the shell sentence and footnote to a real sentence and footnote in new document.
#6 Thereafter, as you add new footnotes, either copy / paste one from new document or shell and edit. You will see they renumber properly, even when moved. -
