Text Sequence Behaviors (Continuous) - Intermittent

Hi everyone! I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to apply the text sequence behaviour under the continuous menu called Intermittent. Applying this to my text produces two behaviors - Intermittent and Randomize Sequence Custom Speed. When I hit play, absolutely nothing happens. I can see the custom speed control in the Intermittent behavior jump up and down, but that's about it. What do I need to do to produce that cool flickering effect I see in the effect's preview window?
I should note that all the other continuous effects seem to work without touching anything.

It should work with the default settings when you apply the behavior. It is active for me upon application. The fact you see the custom speed control moving indicates the Random sequence custom speed behavior is operative. You might play with the opacity and variance controls to see if that jump starts it. Also I would delete the behavior and reapply it just in case it didn't apply correctly. Is Motion acting strangly in any other way?

"resolving alias to" message using aliases on 10.6.8 plus slow text-selection behavior

Recently after no particular change to my Mac Pro3,2 running 10.6.8 other than some routine software updates, whenever I open an alias on my desktop to standard folders or files, a message shows up "Resolving alias to" whatever the alias name and there's a 2-3 second delay before the folder/file opens. I've found discussion of this issue in some archived discussions but never found a comfirmed solution described, so I'm raising this again. As in others' encounter with this behavior, the slow opening of aliases happens (1) only in my own user account, not in a guest account I set up for test purposes [I have no other user accounts than these], and (2) only happens the FIRST time I open an alias. Subsequent uses of the alias work normally.
Another strange but possibly related behavior that began at the same time as this alias delay is harder to describe but involves a problem when selecting text using mouse clicks or even highlighting with the mouse for editing. For example, to edit the name of a file or folder on my desktop, I would normally click on the file/folder name, pause a moment and click again: this puts me in edit mode with the current file/folder name highlighted/selected. Now when I attempt this procedure, the second time I click immediately opens the file/folder, as though I had double-clicked rather than clicked+paused+clicked. The only way I can select the name of the file/folder to edit it is to click+long pause (like 3 seconds)+click. Then the text is selected as desired. It's as though the clicks are being recognized (by whatever in the OS recognizes clicks) as much faster than actually made. There is a similar problem in any program I use that permits text editing, whether Word (Office 2011 for Mac), TextEdit, etc. I have to consciously slow down my cursor/click behavior when selecting text. If not, my actions are misinterpreted as double clicks. This text selection behavior also disappears when using a "Guest" user account, only appearing in my own user account. I Using a different mouse has no effect.
Steps taken so far. I've Repaired Disk Permissions and Verified Disk using Disk Utility, have Safe Booted, and have turned off all login items in my user account,and recently installed the 10.6.8 supplemental update, all to no avail. Any suggestions or has anyone had and solved this/these problems?

I think my problem has been that in Sytem Preferences>Mouse, my "Double-Click Speed" was set to the SLOWEST setting. After some experimentation, I now have the that setting two notches from the "Fast" end of the scale. In case it's important, the "Primary mouse button" in my Preferences is set to "Left".
This not only solves the text selection issues described, but also seems to eliminate the strange "resolving alias to" problem.
[For the curious, I have a Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse which can be configured with "Logitech Control Center". But the LCC software doesn't control double-click speed; this setting can only be made in the Mouse System Preference pane.]

HT6337 Is anybody seeing multiple devices when turning on "Text Message Forwarding" (Continuity for SMS) in iOS 8.1?

When attempting to turn on "Text Message Fowarding" (Continuity for SMS), I'm presented with several devices to choose from (see screenshot). I only have one Macbook Pro.

Im having this same issue and everyone says turn on text message fowarding under messages.. Well I do not have that option on 8.3 there is no text message fowarding. HELP this is crap apple pushing out updates that break things!

Please change text highlight behavior

The highlight behavior was changed from InDesign CS6 to InDesign CC wherein it previously "inverted" the text and background. So if the text was black on white, it became white on black. Further, what was behind the text was treated the same way. So if there was black text on top of a blue image, the text became white while the image became orange.
This behavior worked and accounted for ANY combination of text and background.
The new behavior is that the text is highlighted using your operating systems highlight color. The default color for OS X is a light blue.
Thus if you have light grey or light blue text, it disappears into the highlight block. Even white text, which is very common in magazine and brochure design, becomes extremely hard to read.
But the larger problem is created when working on a background. Whereas the background was previously inverted, it is now entirely covered. You can't see it anymore.
I constantly have to do designs based on previous versions/designs. In some cases, a design was created in illustrator or photoshop and I have to recreate it in InDesign. This used to be pretty simple. I'd pull the old design in as a placed object, set it's opacity to 50% and put it on a locked layer. Then I'd rebuild it in InDesign. But with the text highlight behavior, this becomes virtually impossible. As soon as you select the text that you need to adjust to match the background, the background itself becomes invisible—covered up by a light blue highlight.
I've included two images here to demonstrate the problem created by the new behavior.
So my feature request is simple: Revert the text highlight behavior.

I can't agreee more! We just updated all of our Production Macs to CC here and do much of the same work to client files when all we have is a reference PDF. We have to be able to re-set type to match exactly their previous designs and not being able to see that underlying PDF is a horrible drawback. There must be a way to make that highlight color transparent, even if it's a Preference to be changed.
I will say the only passable way I've found so far, and it's far from ideal, is to place the original PDF, make sure Transaprent Background is selected and put it on a Layer above the new text items. Some caveats are, if there's anything in that PDF that obscures the new text frames it can be problematic, and you have to Lock that PDF layer or selecting items can be infuriating as well. NOT a solution, just a workaround at best.

Sequence behavior after importing via DataPump

I'm running Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Servers and I faced a strange sequences behavior after importing a schema via Data Pump.
The export is done this way:
EXPDP userid/password dumpfile= logfile= directory= remap_dumpfile=y (no news)
The import is done this way
IMPDP userid/password dumpfile= logfile= directory= remap_schema=(old_one:new_one) remap_tablespace=(old_ones:new_ones, so on...)
The import works fine. There are no errors and the sequences are as well imported with no warnings.
The strange behavior is that the sequences seems to "reset". When we call a sequence the NEXTVAL is just lower than the values already stored in the Database, and we get ORA-00001 a lot. The sequence should know that vale. I don't have this problem when using exp/imp, just via DataPump.
So that when we create an order that should receive the value of 100, as an example, because we have 99 orders on the system, Oracle suggest a value lower than 99 or even the number one value (01).
We then wrote a script to check the CURVAL of the sequences on the base schema to recreate the sequences using this initial value on the new imported schema.
Does anyone faced this problem before?
Any suggestions?

I've tried what you just said.
Adding the parameter consistent=y makes Oracle to show a message like that at the beginning of the export
"flashback_time=TO_TIMESTAMP('2013-09-03 12:18:12', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')"
It warns me: Legacy Parameter CONSISTENT=TRUE, and replaces with flashback_time.
Really, I did not know about this behavior with this "old" parameter. I'm very appreciated about your help.
I was almost thinking it was a DataPump bug or something.

What version of Mac OS X? Do you have the original (or any) system disk?

Pages: the text seems to continue on the page and doesn't open a new page

Why when writing the first page does the text not continue on another page but to continue on down behind the second page, especially when using work started on my computer at work.

You might think these are really intrusive and irrelevant questions but:
What version of Pages?
What version of OSX?
What template are you using?
Just guessing, but it sounds like you have text in a floating Textbox, not in a Word Processing Document layer.

Iphone 4 makes an continuous intermittent vibration/buzzing sound when plugged into any of computer's 3 usb ports; does not show in itunes or Windows Vista device manager. No problem charging the phone with other power sources. What's going on?

I suspect it might be a problem with my computer, an Acer Aspire 4530, perhaps with it's charging function via usb ports? The phone makes the same buzzing sound twice when I connect to other power sources, but continues when connected to computer. I have this issue even when the phone is 100% charged.

Merging data without set text framing - creating continuous, flowing/wrapping records

Hi.
Has anyone figured out a way to merge data without confining each record to set text frame size, hence creating a continuous flow or wrapping of records?
I need to put in an image, followed by a text description, so I can't merge all the text into one text box.
I can fit frame to text, then align with set gap, but this is way to time consuming and ineffective when creating a doc of several 100 pages.

Searching Google for "indesign script combine all stories" without quotes turns up a number of links. There's a link to InDesign Secrets that describes a free script that may solve your problem.

I cannot understand the behavior of this sequence

Why is the first value being generated : 10
The default start with value is 1, why isn't 1 displayed.

That is by design - SEQUENCEs are documented to produce the behaviour that you experienced.

I have come across one strange behavior of sequence in Oracle 11g R2. Could anyone please account for the change. I have posted the simulation scripts as below.

If I try with alternative way, by holding the sequence value in another local variable, then inserting into the table, it works fine. Like below

Displaying text in item continuously

Hello.
Is it possible to show continuously moving text in some item in forms?
It would be for help in some item. User can use form, if he doesn't understand something, he can look at the text, which would repeat from start to end.
Maybe with some java bean?
Any idea?

There would not be just help for an item, but the whole form. Help like why user cant't change record, what to do if something occurs, ...
All of that would appear (auto scroll) in one item (display item or bean area) and display continuously.

Odd Text Cursor Behavior

In the last few months I've seen what may be a change in the way the text cursor moves in text fields, particularly in Mail.
In Mail I'm composing a reply to an e-mail message. I've typed some text that occupies two lines. The cursor is in the third, blank line. If I press "up-arrow" the cursor moves to the end of the second line. If I press "up-arrow" again the cursor moves to the beginning of the first line. If I press "down-arrow", the cursor moves to the beginning of the second line. Very odd.
I was used to being able to cursor past the end of one line to the beginning of the next line and then being able to cursor up and down in that first column position. That no longer works reliably, often causing the cursor to move to a position far to the right of the first column.
Does anyone else see this? Did a change in an OS update alter the way the text cursor works in Mail? In TextEdit the cursor still works the way it used to. I have no third-party plug-ins for Mail.

Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

Strange drag and drop text editing behavior in Mail

Sometime when selecting text in an email and dragging it to a new part of the document COPIES the selected text to the new location rather than MOVES the original text.
Is this a bug or is there a trick to drag and drop in Mail?

No bug, no trick. You simply have to be careful so that you get it right. Select the text you want to move, then click and hold (pause slightly), and drag & drop to the new position. Simple, and it works every time if you do it rights.
