Text size for credits and timing

I'm making a short film to be shown on a 50" monitor (SD) and on the web.
Is there a rule of thumb or guide for formating end credits:
-the font size
-duration on screen for each credit
Also wondering which font size would be used for a video shown on a 50" monitor vs. a web (youtube) video.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes and no. If you've ever watched the credits at the ned of reality shows, you've seen legibility is not a factor.
The size of the display is meaningless. You've got to consider the viewing distance.
It's the proportion of the total vertical height of the format that you work with. In NTSC, the number of horizontal lines (pixels) is about 500. The minimum number of lines required to display legible text is 14-20 although pharma and used car ads try to get away with 10 or 12 pixel text. That's a range of 2 to 5% of the horizontal resolution. If your format is 1080, then you've got a choice to make. You can use 14 pixel text but it will be far smaller on a 50" display than the 14 pixesl in NTSC on the same display.
Important text is on the screen long enough to read it three times.
Credits are only up as long as they must be unless an exact time is specified in a contract or union negotiations. You take the total amount of time you have for the total credits to be shown (this is often determined by factors out of your control) and divide by the number of credit panels and include a number of frames for the transitions.
In the end, it's what you can get away with without annoying anyone.

  • Different Text Size for different mobile devices and Tabbed View Application

    Hi,
I am developing an sample mobile application to target all mobile devices (IPhone/IPad/IPod and Android).
I am facing an Issue that i am using default text size for the TextInput, TextArea and label but text size look so small for some devices, i discuss this with some(unkown) person(he is an IPhone developer).
He told me that in Iphone development for different devices they use different text size.
So how would I do the same at our Flex Mobile application ?
Please provide me help regarding this
There is one more problem in the application. I have tabbed view application, and i assign the firstview of the tab after 10 or more seconds of interval so that data will load in the application properly.
But issue is that my first tab is not show anything at first go. When we switch the tab then it loads the screen and application work fine.
Please provide me any help so that i can see the first Tab Screen.
    Thanks

Hi there. For your font issue you need to set up a variable call it var fontSize or something. Then have an if statement that reads something like if (stage.stageWidth <= 320) fontSize=8 else if (stage.stageWidth > 320 || stage.stageWidth <= 640) fontSize = 12.
Then instead of giving your font a size give it the size of fontSize variable and it will check for stage width or whatever you base it on and apply that size to your text field.
I had done this for an app I did for Kellogg Garden Products but if you notice when you go from portrait to landscape mode the font size increases using this technique.

  • How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the Bookmarks Library?

How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
    With regard to font size,
    1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
    2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
    3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
    4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
    5. “Help” offers none that I can find.
    Can any of you Help?!?

    Maybe this extension helps:

  • What is theoptimal file size for stills, and dpi?

what is theoptimal file size for stills, and dpi?

In video dpi is not relevent. What counts in video is pixels. In FCP most recommendations I have seen is to size your stills so they have no more than 3 times the pixels in your project aspect ratio. For example if your project is 1280x720 then stills should be no more than 3 times the 1280x720. This allows you to crop the stills and still have good resolution. If no cropping is anticipated then they could be the same size as your project.

  • Firefox recently starts with an additional [- o x] window pane, will not load homepage on startup, and will no longer remember text sizes for websites.

Recently, Firefox no longer starts at my home page, despite that option in effect. Firefox no longer remembers the text size used the last time any given site was visited. Firefox allows one instance of customizing (right click in a blank tab area) then locks that option out and locks the menu bar, allowing only use of the orange drop down square. Adding or removing one of the toolbar options (right click in a blank tab area) removes the additional pane (minimize, maximize, close), but it returns each time Firefox is re-started.

I was able to resolve this problem, but only by completely clean re-instal of Firefox (all settings had to be dumped).
This was more of a work-around than a solution, but the problem is resolved.

  • Huge file size for .ai and .eps

Recently I upgraded fo Illustrator CS6 and found something that is going to screw up my working with clients. The problem is that the .ai and .eps files are having really huge size (67MB on an average). I have used about 6 images (jpeg at 1024x768, less than 1MB each) made them as pattern in the swatches panel and applied on various shapes. The .ai file size is 109MB :O :O :O . Another ridiculous thing is that an art that contains only 3 lines of text plus some circles and squares (3 circles, 2 squares) filled with solid color is around 68MB.
This is really bad when I have to send the files to the clients. Please tell me how to reduce the file size without compromising on the pattern quality. Please, this is quite urgent.

Dang! This is really weird. The files I was referring to were for iPad (artboard size 2048x1536). I opened a new doc @ 800x600 and copy pasted everything in the other file and saved it - 109MB file reduced to 402KB jaw dropper!!! I don't know the logic behind it, but I guess it has to be something related to artboard size ...
    Thanks guys.

  • Default text size for a scaling/auto field

    Hi All,
Im currently using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and am working in a PDF all written in size 10 font. I have text fields that need to be entered and scale if too much text is written. I've set the font size as 'Auto' and this scales without issue, however when the field is first entered and not yet scaled (as in, there is enough room for the text) it defaults to size 12. I'm needing this to default to size 10, and still be able to scale if too much text is entered, but I can't find any options for this. I essentially lose my ability to set the default text by setting it to 'Auto' yet it's still going to size 12 by default - how can I change this setting to size 10?
I've tried searching various forums for this answer but can never find exactly what I'm after - Any help will be appreciated.
    Joel

    Thanks for the response George.
If that's the case, would I be able to write an 'on mouse down' java script as a work around, or will these font sizes be dealt with the same. As in, if I change font size with a script to 10, will this effectively remove my 'auto' text size that allows scaling?

  • [AA7+] [Windows] Set default text size for "auto" setting...

    Good morning:
I was wondering if it is possible to set the default font size or specify a maximum font size
for the auto setting of the font size on a text field when using the auto setting?
Currently, if the font size is set to "auto" it defaults to 12 pt. text if multiline is checked on the Options tab.
If multiline is not checked on the Options tab, the font size will adjust to the height of the box.
I would like to have the multiline checked, specify "auto" for the font size, but have the auto font size be no larger than 8 pts.
It can go smaller than 8 pts. if there is too much text in the field, but should not be larger than 8 pts. because the other form fields are in 8 pt.
If someone has any suggestions on how to achieve this, I would be most appreciative.
    Thanks!
    Theresa

    Thanks Jongware!
I'm aware of the many different forums and I thought I was posting it in the Acrobat Scripting forum.
That'll teach me to look where I post. I guess I'm the one that needs the glasses.
    Take care!

  • Hard limit to xml size for add_event and process rules?

    Hi,
Is there is hard limit of 4000chars to the input xml for add_event and process_rules fumction in 10g R2?
    Regards,
    Nishanth

    Nishanth,
The bug 8332063 is specific to attributes created for Text predicates and that does not impose size restrictions on XMLtype attributes.

  • Increase text size for macbook air.

The text is a bit too small for me across email/internet/pages etc.
How do I increase the text size in preferences? Can't seem to find it

If you are using Safari, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Try the font accessibility feature. Or, from the Safari menu bar click View > Zoom In or Zoom Out. You can also elect to choose Zoom Text Only.
For Mail. From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select Fonts & Colors
If none of the above help, try a different screen resolution.
Open System Preferences > Displays > Display then select Scaled.
And try System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom

  • Consistent text size for all browsers

Can someone please point me to css help in understanding how to size text so it looks (relatively) the same in different browsers?

    Hi
Browsers use different defaults for the font size, typically 14px and 16px. So in order to get a default size across all browsers, you have to set this for the body of the document.
You could use px, rem or % values for all your settings, all have there advantages and disadvantages.
Pixel values are a relative value on computers and similar devices and not an absolute value as many people think, so there use will vary depending upon things like, resolution and pixel-aspect-ratio.
% values are as good as ems but are more difficult to calculate.
rem values take the default pixel size of the browser and all values are then calculated according to this value. As the default value can be anything, you do not actually know what the user is going to see. As an example if the user has set their default value in the browser options to 20px then the relative value of 1rem is 20px, if however they have set this to 12 px then the value of 1rem is 12px, so the use of rem gives an unknown font size.
rem does have one distinct advantage over other forms of values in that it does not cascade and all values are worked out from the browsers default value, which is a fantastic usability feature as the user then decides on the size of any text, unfortunately it does also mean that the designer has no control over what this is.
em also has its disadvantages in that the value cascades, as an example suppose you have the value set in the body of 16px and the p tag at 1em, if you then set the default value for a div at say 2em, and the value for a p tag within the div at 0.75em the value for the p tag inside the div will be 24px not 12px, as it inherits the value of the parent as its base value

  • Using large block sizes for index and table spaces

" You are not using large blocksizes for your index tablespaces. Oracle research proves that indexes will build flatter tree structures in larger blocksizes.
Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? I also have batch and online activity. My primary target is batch and it should not impact online. Not sure if both have common tables.
How to find the current block size used for tables and index? is there a v$parameter query?
What is an optimal block size value for batch?
How do I know when flatter tree str has been achieved using above changes? Is there a query to determine this?
What about tables, what is the success criterion for tables. can we use the same flat tree str criterion? Is there a query for this?

Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? This is a generic statement used by some consultants. Unfortunately, it is riddled with exceptions and other considerations.
One consultant in particular seems to have anecdotal evidence that using different block sizes for index (big) and data (small) can yield almost miraculous improvements. However, that can not be backed up due to NDA. Many of the rest of us can not duplicate the improvements, and indeed some find situations where that results in a degradation (esp with high insert/update rates from separated transactions).

    1) stop using generic tools to analyze specific problems
    2) define you problem in detail ()what are you really trying to accomplish - seems like performance tuning, but you never really state that)
    3) define the OS and DB version - in detail. Give rev levels and patch levels.
If you are having a serious performance issue, I strongly recommend you look at some performance tuning specialists like "http://www.method-r.com/", "http://www.miracleas.dk/", "http://www.hotsos.com/", "http://www.pythian.com/", or even Oracle's Performance Tuning consultants. We defined a Text Det Proc for Object BUT000 (Business Partners) which gives us the same text types in both accounts and contact person screens in PCUI. But we want different text types. Can any one please advise.
