Text size got smaller in Adobe Reader 8

Hi,
I created a fillable (text field - font size=auto)form.
When I used Acrobat Reader 7, the font size in the fillable form was big enough to read. However, after I upgraded to Adobe Reader 8, the font size in the text field is too small to read. Is there any way to fix this without changing the whole pdf file (e.g. fix the font size from auto to 10 or 12)with Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional?
Please advise.

Also, if it is only on screen that there is a difference, check Reader preferences>Page Display>Resolution.

  • How do I add text boxes that people can edit font type, size, and color in Adobe Reader

How do I add text boxes that people can edit font type, size, and color in Adobe Reader? I am using Acrobat Pro XI.

It is possible. Add your text fields and in their Properties set them to have Rich Text Contents (under Options). This will allow the users to specify all kinds of formatting settings for those fields (by pressing Ctrl+E and using the Properties bar).

  • Adobe reader  X and XI search don´t find text like other programs including adobe reader 9? Thanks

Adobe reader  X and XI search don´t find text like other programs including adobe reader 9? Thanks

You mean, you are trying to search text in a PDF file, and you can do it in Reader 9 but not in later versions of Reader (using the same file)?

  • Why can I now highlight text with mouse pointer in Adobe Reader 9

I just downloaded Adobe Reader X. I think I prefer Reader 9. I don't like being able to click in the document and have a flashing place mark (right terminology?) there. This is now happening in the Reader 9 version too, and I can copy text this way, but I don't want this. I didn't change any preferences. Can anyone help?

Like I said, I didn't change any of the preferences, so I don't know why this happened. I think it only happened after I opened Adobe Reader X. I see no options in preferences for turning on or off the ability to highlight text with your mouse pointer, and I thought you were not supposed to be able to do this in Adobe Reader 9.

  • Text search stopped working in Adobe Reader X

We create a weekly report that is posted in a shared network directory for multiple user access.   These pdf files can be accessed by Adobe reader or full Adobe as needed.  The reports are created in the same manner each week by printing an electronic file to the Adobe PDF printer.  The reports generated after the 10th of January are no longer searchable.  Any report before that date can be opened and when a search is performed the occurrances are highlighted as needed and can be jumped to by clicking on the search list created.  Any report created after  January 10, yields no results.  This despite the visible presence of the search word or words in the visible document.  The search mechanism is looking at the file and all of its pages but producing no results.  I have looked at the document properties and can find no difference in their properties or behavior.  Anyone have any ideas as to what might contribute to this change?  As these are public record reports, I can send copies for analysis if needed. Thanks for any help.

    Ok,
First -In context of your post above this one it might be a good thing to slick those files sooner rather than later.
While present in the account they are available to the "world" through the links.
The two pre-Jan 10 PDFs have content mastered in a word processing application.
I'd say it was MS Word as the PDFs were produced via printing with Adobe Distiller 9 (installed by Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro).
A File > Print > Adobe Printer selected.
The Distiller job option used had PDF version 1.5 (associated with release of Acrobat 6) selected; so, that's the version of the two PDFs.
These PDFs both have renderable text rather than hidden text associated with OCR output.
Both PDFs, as outputs of Adobe's 'Acrobat' product are ISO 32000-1 (ISO's PDF standard) compliant.
Consequently, Acrobat's Catalog index / Search feature encounters a "well-formed" (Standards compliant) PDF.
The post-Jan10 PDFs were also sourced from a word processing application (again, I'd say MS Word).
However, the free PrimoPDF application developed the PDF output.
The PDFs contain renderable and hidden text. It is as if the initial output PDF was and image and that was sent through an OCR process that replaced recognized characters with a renderable character and left unrecognized characters as hidden text.
Consequence: What Catalog index / Search / Find can 'grab' is not the same as what you 'see'.
In sum, post Jan 10 the way the PDFs were produced changed. That is the crux of it.
    Be well...

  • Strange text display in pdf using adobe reader exported by Indesign CS5

    Hi there,
I have export an interactive pdf from indesign CS5 PC version with version 7 update, and it looks fine in most of the PC and Mac Adobe reader.
But 2 of the computer had strange text display. One is the iMAC with latest version of Adobe Reader
<== you can see the text "78" and "454" are abnormal
But with the same computer using Safari with perview plugin is showing following result:
<==you can see the text are normal.
The pdf is embedded with following fonts and property:
Another Windows XP with Adobe Acrobat 9 will had same display as the iMac.
I ensure the Windows XP don't have the font installed with HelveticaNeue and the Mac is using OS Lion Bundle with that font.
Now the customer blame it is the problem of the pdf created by me and I had no idea how to explain to my customer and find out solution.
I had a trial version of CC but same result and no error during the export.
Any idea is highly appreciate. The customer hotline and the live chat is hopeless as they send me to this community to ask since I use CS5 not the latest version.
    Regards,
    Ichi

    Thanks Willi,
I had the fonts of Helvetica Neue bold light etc which created by Adobe and the font was created in 1993,shown in font property.
my PDF output is set to interactive not the print one. Other settings are default.
the purpose of this PDF is for user to print out and read on website. The funny thing is print out had no problem at all with HP and Ricoh printer using PCL 6 driver.
Despite Safari, the strange font happened in only Adobe product, other PDF reader had no problem such as foxit reader, xchange reader.
I tried to not embed the font but not able to do indesign, search in Google, it said it always embedded. Also that font family is preloaded in Mac OS.
I can try any test if there is a way to find out the solution.
or what should I do so the PDF should display correctly in all computer
    thanks a lot.

  • Search/ find Text function not working in Adobe Reader

I am having problem with text search in Adobe reader latest version 9.3.
One pdf file generated through a pdf printer inside a word processing program and has around 100 pages. So there is no issue of having a scanned document which is not searchable.
In this document, when I try to search the text inside the pdf file using Adobe Reader 9.0, it is working alright and it is recognising the text searched for.
However, When the same pdf file is searched using Adobe Reader 9.3 and 9.4 etc it is not searching the text which is present at more than five places in the document.
    Please advise.

Scanned PDFs that have not had OCR performed will just contain an image of text, so they cannot be searched. Other files may have messed up fonts. Without looking at eachc particular document, it's hard to say what's wrong.

  • Barcode size problem in different adobe reader versions

    Hi,
In one of my requirements of Adobe form, I am displaying barcode for a value. The problem is of size of barcode which varies on different machines based on Adobe Reader version.
On one machine 'Adobe Reader' version 9.4.0 is installed and on other machine 'Adobe Reader X' version 10.0.1 is installed. The barcode is displayed in correct size in version 10.0.1 while only half barcode is displayed in version 9.4.0 when value of the property 'Data length' is set to 10 (which is default).
If I set the value of same property to 26 in order to fit the barcode in specified space in version 9.4.0, same barcode is displayed in half size in version 10.0.1.
    Kindly give suggestions.
    Regards.

You cannot use Reader X until it has been installed. Installing means that the appropriate configuration has been entered into the Windows Registry. Copying a folder from another computer doesn't achieve that goal.
Here's what I suggest you do now.
Run this Microsoft fix first of all: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall via Reader via Add/Remove Programs
Download and install Reader X from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
P.S. There are some programs which are so called 'Standalone' apps. That means that the executable will run without using a system's processes. But Adobe Reader isn't one of them.

  • Text object gets deleted in Adobe Reader 11

In Adobe Acrobat X i was inserting text objects to one of the pdf . It opens properly in Adobe Reader 10, but in Adobe Reader 11, when I click on that PDF file, text objects which i have edited gets deleted.
Here is the source pdf file link which i am editing(http://incometaxsoft.com/pdf/Src.pdf)
This the pdf file  link which is already edited and for which text gets deleted when double click on pdf in adobe reader 11(http://incometaxsoft.com/pdf/result.pdf)
So how can i prevent text object from deleting?

The problem is not only seen in Reader XI. It is also seen in Acrobat Pro 9 and 10. The problem is caused by incorrect modifications to the PDF.
It breaks this principle: if software creates an appearance stream for a "standard" annotation it must match the standard appearance of the annotation exactly. Software which supports annotation is free to use EITHER the appearance stream OR the annotation dictionary to show it on screen, and it is not predictable which one is used.
The problem is that the original PDF contains a "FreeText" annotation with the text "WWWW" in top left. When you say the text is deleted that is not a full description of the problem. The new text disappears but the original WWWW reappears.
This has started happening in Reader XI because it now has support for editing FreeText annotations, so it is doing the correct thing and rebuilding it from the dictionary.
The editing solution is simple and neat. Unfortunately it is also fundamendally flawed because
    (a) the original annotation dictionary is not changed to match
    (b) in any case the free text annotation cannot express a detailed filling in of multiple locations
If this had been tested using Acrobat the problem would have been seen before.
I recommend you add actual page contents to the page.

  • When opening in Xfinity email, text becomes so small u cannot read.

If I open my email account in explorer, the text is a good size and is legible. When I open my email account through Firefox, the text is so tiny you cannot read the headers or any other text on the page. The home page is fine for both explorer and firefox. The text size for emails is Arial12. When viewing the settings in Firefox, all settings are identical to Explorer. This just happened two days ago. Up until then all was fine no matter which service I used to read emails.

Thank you. This helped so much. IT was driving me crazy.

  • For searchabe text, can i use just adobe reader?

  • Installation How-to for minimal/small footprint Adobe Reader & Firefox Plugin

I need to install Adobe Reader & Firefox Plugin in a small Linux based environment.
    As a proof-of-concept, I downloaded and installed the AdbeRdr9.4.7-1_i486linux_enu.bin
to an NFS share mounted to the Linux thinclient. That worked -- eg, the plugin was available
to the browser so the OS will support that build. However, the client does not have much
writable 'disk' space available and using any type of share (NFS/Samba) is not an option in
    the production environment.
I need to use the plugin from within Firefox (6.0+) and have to be able to print via CUPS.
DIsk space available is less than 50Mb, preferrably a lot less!
Is there a guide available for a mimimal installation?
Any sugguestions as to what files/directories I have to copy to the local filesystem for
    * an absolute minimum ?
    * a bit more if there's room?
    Suggestions / pointers appreciated..
    Tom

First - what version of Adobe Reader do you have?
And now it gets a little bit complicated.  Adobe Reader can be a plugin to Internet Explorer, and it crashes when you try to open an online PDF document.  That is not unknown; it happens sometimes.
But when you open the standalone Adobe Reader, it also crashes with a plugin error.  This time it must be a plugin to Adobe Reader, not Internet Explorer.
Furthermore you write "the same plugin error window pops up" - so I can only assume that it is a Reader plugin that crashes, not the IE plugin.
What I would try in your situation:
    open Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall Adobe Reader;
    open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader and delete all plugin... folders;
    reinstall Adobe Reader from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3.3/enu/AdbeRdr933_en_US.exe
The path in the second line above could also be ...\Reader 8.0\... depending on your Reader version.

  • Google search box in mid screen accepts text but is inactive. Adobe reader does not now function with Firefox. Both are new since update. Thanks

    1. The google search box in the middle of the FF page accepts text but is not active since my update. The search bar box works.
    2. Adobe reader does not seem to work with the new update. eg. Epost suggested I update Reader which I did but it still doesn't work. New since update. It works with Safari which I dislike or i would simply change.
    Thanks
    David

Does that box still Shows the Google text?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.
    *browser.search.defaultenginename
You can check if you still have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the searchplugins folder in Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

    Hi Raja,
I can understand your concern & will guide you in the right direction.
Let me know the version of Adobe Reader, web browser & operating system installed on your computer?
You can also refer to this KB doc. for the troubleshooting steps : Configure browser to use the Adobe PDF plug-in
*Note : The Adobe Reader plugin will not be supported in Chrome. The Chromium team has decided to remove support for NPAPI plugins like Adobe Reader. Here's a blog post that describes their decision - Chromium Blog: The Final Countdown for NPAPI

  • Can't see typed text in fillable forms in Adobe Reader x unless you click back in the field?

We have fillable forms and when employees open them they can type in but as soon as they tab to the next field you can't see text in previous field unless you click back into that field with your mouse.  Then when you click on print it prints the form out with no text in the field.  This form can be opened and filled in if the staff member has adobe pro of nuance but not in the new reader.

I just ran into the problem as well. To resolve it, I had to open the form in Acrobat  then delete and recreate the fields what are not showing text. I know this is a pain but it seems to be the only way to fix the problem. Going forward, I'm either going to have to upgrade the acrobat program to version X or stop using the form wizzard. It seems that fields created with the wizzard act weird in reader x. Either that or wait for what ever the bug is in reader x to be fixed.
This fix works for all fields except digital signature which in reader X does not do anything when clicked.
