Text spacing

So i'm having trouble with the text spacing in my site. I'm
not the best with dreamweaver so bear with me. I posted my problem
yesterday saying that while the text looks normal in dreamweaver
and firefox when I open it with IE the spacing is all messed up. I
wanted to figure out a way to make it look normal no matter which
browser you use to open it. Someone responded saying to "define it
with CSS". How do I do this? When I highlight the text and go to
CSS styles there is a checkmark next to something so does that mean
it already is defined with CSS? Sorry, i'm just no good with this
stuff.

Text spacing in cells changes a few seconds after opening a document

This image shows what I mean. This happens on any Numbers document I open now. The text spacing expands until it's too big for the cell, which then throws the little + symbol.
The only thing I did out of the ordinary was to install MS Word from Office 2008 just prior to this happening.

Published site - text moved, text spacing inconsistent

I am very new to Adobe Muse, so go easy on me. I created a first site using Muse. In design view, all seems to be fine. When I published the site to Business Catalyst, text included on the top of the page moved up above other text. In design view, it is fine, only when published.
Also, on one of the panels of an tabbed panels used in the site, the spacing of the text is not correct. The text appears as several paragraphs with headings that are different sizes from the content of the paragraphs. The first paragraph looks great. Paragraph two, three, and four have too much space between the lines of text. I had problems changing the font sizes of the headings, this seemed to occur after the issue with the font sizes.
Below is the design view with text in place and text spaced appropriately.
Below is the published view shwoing text with address information moved from its place in design view. It published above the company name. Also the spacing difference in the paragraphs two, three, and four on the right of the panel.
Any help to resolve will be greatly appreciated
Note: I attempted to post screen captures of the issues, but would not post with questions. Again, any help to get them onto the post would be appreciated.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have screen captured what I reported in my post. Below are the two different captures, the first one is the published image from Business Catlyst. Note the address information is above the company name.
Below is a capture from Design view from within Muse showing the correct placement of the text. Also, please note the difference in the text spacing in the paragraphs from Design view to the published view. I have reviewed the settings, but cannot determine how to publish to the spacing is the same in parargraphs two, three, and four.

Text spacing goes crazy after editing a pdf in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

Recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from 7. I have old pdf documents that need minor editing. When I edit text with Text Touchup tool, I get an error that font substitution taking place, usually TimesNewRoman Postscript to just TimesNewRoman. Once I save the pdf, text throughout the entire document is spaced randomly, i.e. "Doc ument is n o t fo m atted correctly". I do not have the original source documents to re-scan or recreate the PDF. If I create a new document using 9, I embed my fonts or I get the same problem. I can't do this with the hundreds of old documents I have. Is there a fix? I have tried Adobe Tech support via email with no response.
I am using Distiller to print to pdf.
I am using Vista Home Premium (ugh!) but tried it on an XP system with same results.
All my documents are text, and were OCR'd using Abbyy FineReader originally.

Thanks for the input, but I don't have the originals in either hardcopy or OCR'd files. My workaround is to re-OCR the pdf, make the changes I need and then save to PDF. This makes a lot more work. I am really trying to figure out what changed in 9 from 7 that causes this to happen. I believe it is an issue with the fonts, was just hoping for a fix.
The edits to these documents are minor, like removing some highlighting or taking away a few words of colored text, but they are necessary, just very unhappy that it now can take hours to do something it used to take minutes to do.

IWeb '08 Text Spacing Wrong on Publish

Hello,
I am seeing problems when viewing by web page after publishing.
Something is going on with the paragraph spacing and font size, where the published page in Safari looks different than what iWeb shows.
I have included two Grab captures.
The picture on the left shows how the text boxes look in iWeb.
The picture on the right shows how the page looks after publishing, and how the alignment, that I had before, changes.

In the right photo, you can see that the font and paragraph spacing on the left-side text, seems to have changed after publishing.
Using iWeb, how should I avoid this problem?

Mac OS X Version 10.5.1 (9B18)

I'm having the same issue. I've tried resetting the spacing using the drag bar and the numbers. I've also deleted the text and started over, with the same result. According to iWeb the spacing is uniform. Have you figured this out?

Text spacing issues Adobe Captivate 8

Hi all,
I've already taken this to the adobe help chat and they haven't been able to help me.
I recently updated to Adobe Captivate 8.0.1.242 and it has caused me no end of trouble with spacing.
Basically if I have a text caption with multiple font sizes it causes in a responsive project the spacing to go haywire. Meaning the preview and the published output looks entirely different, the spacing looks to be around 2 or 3 (rather than 1.5) which crops off big chunks of text.
If I roll back to the previous version of the programme, I do not get the same issues.
Any suggestions?

Retain text spacing in document while editing a single

I finished writing content for a document and formated it along the way. I now have to go back and make formatting (spacing between paragraphs) changes on specific pages, but this ends up affecting the spacing on subsequent pages within the document. How do I edit the spacing on a single page without the text moving down on other pages? I should mention that the text frames are all linked.

Hmm...I guess I havent done any of those things. I've been using soft returns for the whole document and treating it like a doc in MS word. I guess I should learn some more about paragraph styles and such
Here are my screen shots. The first one shows the text I am trying to move up into the space shown by just pressing backspace. The second shot shows the text that automatically moves up when I backspace the 1st page. This is probably super easy, but I'm a noob.

Text spacing changes depending on browser

So I took over the website for my work and while I'm not the
most computer savvy person I can do the basic dreamweaver stuff
which is all it really needs at this point. All I really do is
update it once a month, nothing too major. However, I had to add
some names to a list aand now the spacing looks funny depending on
which browser you use to open the website. It looks normal on
firefox but spaced weird on IE, when I change it so that it looks
normal on IE, the spacing looks funny on firefox. Is there any way
I can make it so that the spacing looks normal no matter which
browser you use to open it?

I'm retarded. How do I do this? When I highlight the text and
go to CSS styles it shows a check mark next to 'people' which...i'm
guessing is the name given to it by the person who built the
website. I have no idea if that really had anything to do with what
you suggested but that was the only CSS I saw so I thought I'd
explain.

Is there a way to find the leading value of each line of text in an area text box (assuming the leading has been set differently on each line)?
In the same line of thinking, I would also like to determine the spacing before and after each paragraph...

The amount of space between two lines of text, in points.

Spacing after paragraph in points.

Spacing before paragraph in points.

Text spacing & keyboard mapping problem

When I type inside a text box I am now getting the characters jammed together as if there was negative letterspacing. It is also entering the wrong characters than what I type. For example, an uppercase R generates an uppercase Q.
I have checked other applications and the problem does not exist.
Anyone else experiencing this?

There is a known problem related to control keys in the netbeans GUI.

It's hard to tell from your message where the programs are
executing from.
Run two X programs next to each other, running on the same machine,
and displaying to the same X server. Verify that one of them can see
ALT keys (for example) and the other one can't. Then you know it's
a problem with the application program, and not due to your keyboard.
The Sun Studio IDE has no idea what physical keyboard you're using.
It only sees the keysyms from the X server.

Text spacing/shifting in Flash CS4?

Hey guys, I am new to the forum, I have used Flash MX 2004 for quite a while and had never had this problem, recently I gave my site a "facelift" in CS4 and I got it exactly how I wanted it, I exported the swf file and then saved the flash file. That was a few days ago, Today I wanted to add a new piece to my portfolio so I opened the same exact file today and everything had shifted! SOOOO FRUSTRATING as I felt I had finally achieved what I wanted to.
Any ideas on how to have this never happen again?

I just fixed it, it worked fine, I closed the file and reopened it and it was exactly the same. Then I closed down the program and reopened the exact same file and it shifted everything again! SO FRUSTRATING!

Correct. Reader can't edit PDF files. It can't even create PDf files, so you must have used the software that came with your scanner to do that.
You should scan your documents to another format, like PNG or TIFF, edit them in a photo editor, like Photoshop, and then convert them to PDF using an application like Acrobat.

Touch-up Text Tool and Fonts

We are on Windows 7, Office 2007 and Acrobat 9. We have recently discovered that when you pdf a Word document, open within Acrobat, then try to use the Touch-Up Text Tool, it changes the kerning/character spacing of the text upon saving. The only fix we have found for this is within Word, choose Acrobat Preferences, under Advanced Settings, click on Fonts, and REMOVE the fonts from "Never Embed Fonts" pane. You need to ensure that any font that is in the Word document is removed from this area. This seems odd to me. Can anyone enlighten me on this? See below screen shots of text spacing changes as well as Font Menu.

It is a good practice to embed fonts if Touch Up Text is a tool you often use.
Is the person creating the pdf the person who is editing the created pdf? If not, my guess based on the exclusion list in your post is that the users have different versions of the Arial font installed. There are small, but significant, differences in kerning and line height between different Arial versions.

Hi Michele,
Select the paragraphs where you want to change the spacing.
Format Panel > Text > Spacing
You can change 1.0 - Single to something else, or type a number in Before or After.

Reduce Space Btween Lines In A Text Box

I have a very large text box in my report and inorder to fit everything on 1 page, I need to reduce the space between the lines in the text box.
I have tried highlighting the text and then Format/Text Spacing/Custom and setting this to various number, including zero, but cannot get the space small enough.
Any pointers appreciated

Custom spacing 0 is the same as single and is the smallest you can get.
