Text Works but No Video/Audio

My friend just got a new iMac, and a Dot Mac account. But we cannot video or audio chat together! His server is login.oscar.aol.com and the port he's using is 5190. We tried limiting bandwidth, but no joy. He's using a small local company in Tennessee for his service called Big River Internet. I'm running Tiger and he's running Leopard. Anybody have any suggestions?

How are the Mac Firewalls set up and the routing devices ?

  • MBP Clamshell Mode - DVI to TV Adapter - Front Row Works - But No Video?

    Hi all,
Have picked up an Apple DVI to TV adapter for my MB Pro. Have successfully got it to work in clamshell mode displaying Front Row on the TV without the external Mouse or keyboard.
However, it will not play videos or movies on the TV.
If I keep the lid open, it will play the video/movie on both displays as hoped. However, when I close the lid, all other Front Row stuff works - but no video picture! Is this some sort of overlay issue? How can I fix this? I do NOt want to burn my LCD when using it this way - would be a waste.
    Please pass on any thoughts!
    Thanks,
    Stu

I also have this exact same problem. A little annoying since I have just spent $A35 on the mini dvi to dvi adapter and another $A50 on a good quality DVI cable. My LCD tv is set to millions of colors so that is not the issue.
I have a 2.0Ghz Core2Duo Macbook. A quick google search If anyone knows how to fix it I'd be very grateful.

  • Voice Recognition Function Not Working When Starting Video/Audio/Text Chat

The Speech Function with Voice Recognition is really neat, but I am having one problem. When I say "Video Chat with Tom Smith" it will say "Tom Smith is not in your iChat Buddy List." It recognizes the name, but it says the person is not in my iChat buddy list and will not let me video chat with that person. How can I fix it so I can video/audio/text chat with someone using the speech function?

  • Copying your movie back to tape - control but no video/audio

Canon ZR-40 digital camera. iMovie HD6 firewire connect to OSX 10.4.7 on eMac 1.4 GHz, 512 MB
I can import clips from camera, manipulate, but when I go to export ... "Share" ... camera in VTR mode, the camera is controlled by iMovie, records "black screen" time and exported movie, at least the time or length, but the end result is a blank video/audio clip. The tape is not write protected, it records video for import and that does import, but after editing, there is no export to tape.
iMovie will export to Quicktime, etc. ... the ZR-40 I thought was fully compatible with iMovie/OSX ...
SOmething obvious I don't see or know?

I don't know if this will apply, since you can import but just not export, but please read what Apple says about you camera here:

  • Button on video track via subtitles work but not for audio via story

    Hello,
I have a video track with two different audio (two versions of music). I have created two buttons within a subtitle to have them directly on the video
if i make a link to the menu, the button work correctly. But in fact i make a link to two different stories, each with the different audio track
this way it does not work ..
    any idea ?

    Hey Thierry Arnould,
    You could use scripts.
Create 2 scripts each with the function "Set System Stream"
and select the "audio streams" which you want to use.
Then add as Startscript to the corresponding story.
    hope that helps

  • Audio is working, but no video

Yesterday an update for flash player was installed on my computer.  Since then, I only have audio without video.  If I run the mouse over the area where the video should be, it may show part of the video for a second and then it's back to audio only.  No error messages have appeared. I uninstalled the flash player and  then reinstalled...didn't help.  I scanned the computer with my Norton, no problems found. I am able to watch videos that don't use flash player.
Windows 7, not sure of all the specs, but the computer was purchased (new) about 5 weeks ago .

I hope this is what you wanted...

  • Why is youtube audio working but not video?

Youtube worked well 2 days ago but since then only the audio has been working with a blacked out background....I haven't  changed anything just updated software in App Store... any suggestions?

First to do is to uninstall all previous versions of flash player by using Flash Player Uninstaller.
After you update directly from Adobe Flash Player Software website, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • Burned dvd and menus, audio, subtitles worked but no video

I with through the entire process of creating a iDVD project with an .AVI video that had subtitles. After it burned, it played on my dvd player with menus, sound and even the subtitles but there was no video. What went wrong? And how can I fix it? Does it have to do with the file being an .AVI file?
    Help appreciated!

Thank you Studio X and David for responding. Yes, I will stay away from m4v formats.
Do you have a fix on how to solve the "Codec could not be opened"?
I am scheduling an appointment with the Apple Store but I am not sure if the Genius Bar guys are up on FCP and knowledgable to figure out what changed and how to change it back to be able to playback my capture scratch files. I noticed some of the past capture scratch files no longer work and get the flashing dark green screen but some do work. It's a software issue but what is it? Any ideas?

  • Can text but not Video/Audio chat

I have tried to do video chat with my friend in Japan. It was fine with ADSL usb modem before, but since I changed to ADSL wireless Router, Voyager2091 supplied by BT broadband, I could not get connection. I get "did not respond" message every time... and the Connection doctor says,
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
    218.42.123.91:61787, 192.168.1.3:5060
Please help me if you have any suggestion...
We are using "IChat Av 2.1" on both Mac(10.3.9). I am currently connecting with ethernet port(not using wireless) to the router. Firewall is off. I do believe that the new router causes this problem but I have no idea how to fix it.... Is this something to do with setting..? Sorry about it if this is a silly question.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Ok,
By default most modems and routers are set to give out IP addresses. By default the Mac is set to get an adress that is given out this way (Dynamically).
If you add a second device and it gives out a DHCP IP address to everything that is connected to it this router will lso pass on previously given out IP addresses from the modem and the MAc gets two IP addresses even though you can only see one.
    IChat get confused by this.
Some time modems come set in Bridge mode (Pass through) and the problem does not occure.

  • PTV and ETT not working but streaming video does

I am also facing similar issue. I tried literally all solutions and then finally gave up and reinstalled windows 7 after clean format,
Immediately after fresh OS installation,Youtube just worked once with flash player for hardly 3 to 5 seconds and then crashed with error "an error occured please try again later- Learn More"
Tried reloading that same youtube video which initially worked for 5 seconds, but on second try it won't load at all.Tried all the other videos as well and same result, they won't play even for one second and same error "an error occured.."
Scrolling along the seek bar of stuck youtube video shows vid's still images just fine but video won't play at all.
Tried it with firefox,IE,Chrome and same result.
Youtube works fine with Html5 player.
Until 5 days back everything was working just fine, maybe either flashplayer got updated or Youtube changed anything which is causing this problem.
I even did a clean windows 8 install on another pc and that pc is also showing same symptoms.

  • IMovieHD controls Sony camera, but no video/audio on Mac!

Yup! I can Play, FFW, RWD the tape on my camera by clicking on the control buttons within the iMovie HD interface, the camera will show the video and play audio, but the monitor will remain blue on my Mac. Clicking on Import does absolutely nothing. If later I go to check the Media folder inside the 'My Great Movie' package, it will contain 243 (yes, always 243) Zero KB .dv files.
I installed iMovie HD on my B/W G3 using Pacifist, and was able to import my tapes onto the hard disk. So, it's not the camera or cable. Is it my Powerbook, or is it the iMovie HD installation on it that is at fault? And, more importantly, how do I go about fixing it?
    The G3 is running 10.4.2.
    Many thanks, people.

    Hi Alex:
If you still do not have this fixed-do the following:
First-if your camera can control the camera but not see the video,
    *Open Garageband
    *Play a note or two
    *Close Garageband
    *Open iMovie
The camera will work now-REALLY!! (It resets your Audio-Midi)
    If not, look here:

  • CS3 transcodes but truncates video, audio ok

After reading other posts I'm about to give up on Encore.   I have one large 16g DV avi file.  Transcodes too quickly!  Why?  Because it stops doing the video after a few minutes.  The result is a small piece of video and full size audio, i.e. the video section is truncated (as shown in the timeline window.)
I have reimported, made a new timeline with a different name, etc
Are there some temp files I should delete?  Or cached stuff?
    Any ideas?

The above suggestions are good and valid, especially if you allow En to do "auto" mode.  Originally I used most of the methods that have been suggested.   Some failed when I did both NTSC and PAL versions of the same content..  Some failed when I went from 1.5 to CS3.   Others carried the burden of hard disk space, confusion, or time impact.
For example you can't make a template-like project that is able to switch from NTSC to PAL.  You can make two project-templates but when transferring from the NTSC project to the PAL project most of the NTSC work and debugging are lost -- you have to manually make screen images and reenter the data and debug from scratch -- it is easy to overlook an end action or mistype a chapter time.
When you Save-As, all the huge files go to the new location which you may later replace or delete.   Template files on other programs I've used record the "style" or "template" or "design" or "structure."  Or they copy all but the assets. (And why does En make gigabyte sized "conformed" 32 bit audio files?)
A well planned out partial project, i.e. up to the new stuff, is a good idea but isn't so good for creatively evolving or customizing the project.  En won't allow me to change the dafault "quick" play order of assets after they have been imported/timelined.  So I lose that part of the structure.
Saved Menus in the Library don't save a custom button navigation or which kind of color activate-select to use, or which "end actions", etc.  A "true" template might save even the menu to menu navigation -- something I use a project-template to do.   As I said, I can't use my old 1.5 project-templates now in CS3 due to a bug.
The joke is that I started with Nero's "free" DVD authoring which at the time gave me a lot of control and simplicity too.  I expected "professional" En would give me much more automation, control, flexibility, creativity -- like the ad says.
As a programmer I know how (relatively) easy it is to export and import.  If most items in En were exportable and importable (like chapter lists, end actions, override, etc etc, button nav, etc.) then I would have few complaints.
Then I could set my own encode bit rates,  place the assets in quick access order, have custom button navigation,  custom colors for activate-select, and do both NTSC and PAL.
Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and points of view.   Until writing all this down I never knew what my various complaints were!  And I still don't know why En truncated my video without beeping or explaining!

  • Single text works, but not when I add it to a group

I have a text group with six members. One of the members used to get the texts but it stopped working a couple days ago. Nothing has changed in the group. When I send her a single text only to the same mobile number, she gets it. It's only when part of the group that she doesn't.
    Any idea what's wrong?

    Exception
when others then raise;Isn't that the same as having no exception handler, except that it hides the line number where the error occurred?

  • Aol mail works, but aol videos don't. also, aol stays on page 1 of day's news stories. arrows don't work.

AOL opens as usual, but I can't move from page 1 of the day's news stories. The arrows don't work and the bar at the top says: aol.com/#. AOL videos go to "connecting." but don't play. My AOL mail account works fine. There are no AOL problems using IE.
Problems started 2 days ago. I'm a low-tech sort, but have tried various fixes suggested in the help section. Currently using Firefox 9.0.1 with Adobe and Silverlight plug-ins. No add-ons. No known (to me) changes 2 days ago that could have caused this. What's the fix? Please advise.

  • Updated ipod Touch 4G to ios 5. TV out now not working, but can hear audio.

I solely use my ipod at the gym, on the treadmills which have tv's and ipod connections built in. Prior to the ios 5 update, I was able to connect the ipod to watch mp4 videos, from the video app that comes with the ipod. To clarify, these are videos I created, not downloaded. They are created from dvd's that do not have protection. Now that I updated to ios 5, I can only hear the audio, the video does not appear on the tv. The ipod shows that a tv is connected, but again, not seeing the video feed. Has anyone else had this or a similar problem with tv out? If so, is there a fix?

Exactly the same problem here.  In another thread some claim this problem is fixed by doing a restore with iTunes.  I haven't tried that yet.
