  • Import InDesign CS2 Interchange format into CS5

I have a lot of InDesign CS2 templates and documents. Since it is not possible to open them directly in InDesign CS5, I have used Interchange format from InDesign CS2 and everything worked beautifully.
But there is a problem. Every text frame from InDesign CS2 Interchange file opened in InDesign CS5, has some info at bottom right corner that consists of a value like 56W (width) and number of characters that are present in the text frame, along with column count (if present) and count of characters that are overflowing.
Interchange format from CS3 InDesign does not do that. There is no way to create and display those info with text frame created in CS5. If text frame from CS2 Interchange format is converted to picture frame, and back to text frame, that info is also gone.
I personally find very useful that info displayed at bottom right corner of text frame from CS2 file (except "w" value that does not change even when text frame is resized).
How can this info be displayed on every text frame created in InDesign CS5 ?

Indeed files from InDesign CS2 can be opened directly in CS5 ... there is something wrong with files from CS2 ... I suspect on one of installed plug-ins, so lets back to the interesting case of bug "Interchangable CS2 file format in CS5".
This "problem" can be replicated allways:
    1) Create document in InDesign CS2
    2) create 2 text frames with some text
    3) export document as InDesign CS2 Interchangable format
    4) open that file in InDesign CS5 and you will get bottom corner info from screenshot.
I would really like to see option to enable this "bug" in CS5 since it makes Info panel redundant in case of text frames.
I guess that value in front of "W" is some sort of width value ... I calculated and came up with 1W~3.25mm ... W Value is rounded (integer) value so some variations are noticable.
C stands for nuber of text columns.
first number in brackets is value of characters in text frame with spaces that is displayed. second is number of characters that are overflowed.
posted ID_CS2.jpg iz zip file actually. just change extension to zip. there are 2 files. one INDD from CS2 and one INX. just save link as .zip (Save target as).

  • Text and text box is altered after I copy and past a frame between InDesign CS2 Documents

    I am using InDesign CS2 4.0.5 on a MAC G5 running 10.4.1
HELP! I am working on a text book that has text picked up from multiple documents. These text frames have inset text. When I copy and paste the text frames, some of the text frames (but not all) loose the inset boundaries. Also some of the text changes so it now wraps. I have checked and double checked; I am using the same object styles and the same paragraph styles, the same character styles. I have even used the book feature to synchronize the styles. But without luck. I read the adobe tech note 333340 about CS2 files moved from Windows to Mac. I don't think any of these files would have been created on the MAC, but I am even having this problem on documents that I know were both created on the MAC. Any suggestions?

This problem was fixed by reading the forum "InDesign CS2 kicking lines out of a text frame for no reason - Help?". Although my text wasn't moving to the next page, I tried changing all the documents to the same unit of measurement and the copy and past worked!!!

  • Text Wrap options not showing in InDesign CS3

Using InDesign CS3 on a Mac 10.4.  I've had this problem for a couple of months now and it's getting past the point of annoying.  When I open my text wrap options pallete it's blank even when I expand options.  I can see the text wrap icons in my header panel, but I no longer have options to change the right/left/top/bottom margins.  Just a general "add wrap" and "remove wrap".  Is there any way I can get my pallete back?  I've tried defaulting my tools, but still it does not show up.  I don't know what to do to get it back.

Did you try resetting preferences? While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files. If you don't get the message about deleting preferences, you weren't fast enough.

  • InDesign CS6 Text Wrap increments not accurate.

My work jumped from CS4 to CS6 so I don't know if CS5 had the same issue. Anyway. Text wrap (around bounding box) seem to now be very limited. For example, If I have, say a .25 text wrap on the bottom of a object, but I need to change it slightly to .245 the text does not move. The box shows the change, but the text below just doesn't follow suit. CS4 I was able to make tiny incremental changes to the wrap, but it is not working for me now in CS6. Any ideas, answers?

@s_ashok – you'll find the right methods and properties in the CHM file for InDesign CS2 at:
    http://www.jongware.com/idjshelp.html
    Just a few hints:
InDesign CS2 does not support GREP search/replace, so every line in your code that points to GREP does not work.
Further: "app.findTextPreferences" and "app.changeTextPreferences" were "app.findPreferences" and "app.changePreferences" in InDesign CS2. And then there were no "findChangeTextOptions" or any counterpart for that in CS2…
    That should get you running…
I have no InDesign CS2 installed to debug, so this is all I can say…

  • Every item I bring into InDesign is text wrapped automatically

Every photo I place, every text box I start, is already text wrapped.  Somehow InD CS4 is automatically adding text wrap to every object.  How do I shut this automated feature off?  Many thanks in advance!

With nothing selected open the text wrap panel and turn it off. If that
doesn't do it, check your default object style.

  • Text Wrap doesn't like 1.5mm but anything else is fine

I have a JPG image containing an enabled clipping path placed on a page. A text frame overlaps one side and the text wraps nicely around the edge of the clipping path (selected in the Contour Options) with a 1mm outset entered in the Text Wrap palette.
However, if I increase the outset to 1.5mm, the text stops wrapping altogether: it just runs across the picture as if I had switched Text Wrap off. Any other measurement is fine: 2mm is just great, as is 0mm, 1mm, 3mm, and so on. But at 1.5mm, I get no wrap at all.
I can get around this by switching Contour Options from Same As Clipping Path to Detect Edges, whereupon the 1.5mm outset works as it should. So no real harm done, but does anyone else think this is odd behaviour?
    - Alistair

There are several other cut-out pictures on the same page, all with 1.5mm outset Text Wraps that cause no problem. We have removed the offending picture, resaved it in Photoshop, replaced it on the page, etc but it does the same thing.
Unfortunately, it's an InDesign CS2 layout so it won't be appropriate to file a bug report. Exporting to INX will be troublesome because the page and its slot in the plan is controlled by a CMS (i.e. exporting is no problem but getting it back in again and reconnecting all the broken CMS links while everyone's on deadline might be). I'd love to post the files here but my newspaper publisher customer wouldn't like it.
    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Text wrap on Master Page items

RE:  InDesign CS2 on Windows Vista
    Hello,
I inserted a graphic on both of my master pages and applied a text wrap to them.  However, on my document pages, my text does not wrap around the graphics.  (In the Text Frame Options dialog box, the "Ignore Text Wrap" box is not checked.)  I know I can either override my master page items (and insert the graphic again) or control-shift-click on the graphic and force the text to wrap around it.  But that puts another link to the graphic in my document...and I'm trying to minimize the file size.
Do you have any ideas on how to make the text wrap on the master pages work on the document pages?

Text wrap on masters is not honored on live pages in CS2. It was added as feature in CS3.

  • Saving Backwards from Indesign CS2 to CS?

Initially, I recieved an Indesign file from CS4 that I couldn't open with my Indesign CS. With much frustration, researching and contacting SEVERAL people with different versions, I am left with the same file (now in .inx) that someone can open in CS2, but still not CS!  Does anyone have Indesign CS2 that can help me and downgrade this file, so I can finally view it!!! Thank you and I greatly appreciate feedback!!!
    Amy

Normally, I'd be the first to volunteer, but I don't actually have CS2 installed on the machine at the moment. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly, though.
In the meantime, you need to understand that what you see is likely to only be a vague imitation of what was created in CS4. Many of the features of CS4 will not be supported, so things like line styles or GREP styles will be lost completely, and you can count on some text wrapping differently from line to line becasue the text engines have also been upgraded significantly. If you can live with that, great, but sending it back to be opened again in CS4 is going to do the same re-wrap stuff if the file is edited. This is not a great way to collaborate.
Also, now is the time to seriously consider upgrading. You are still eligible for upgrade pricing to CS4, but you won't be for CS5, and it will cost a lot more money to upgrade then.

  • Text wrap options have disappeared

    Dear All,
The options in the Text wrap panel have suddenly disappeared and the "show options" selection is completely greyed out...Text Wrap is completely blank.  I'm working with Adobe InDesign CC.  Any suggestions?  The options were there yesterday, but gone today!

Doesn't sound like it's the right folder. You need to be in your user library, ~/library/ or hard drive/<your user name>/library/. I'm not a Mac user so I can't really guide you through the steps to get there beyond what's in the help tpoic and the tread information in the prefs post. You need to be very careful reading the path information -- there are very similar, but different paths listed for the two files.

  • Text wrap not working properly CS4

Despite trying numerous times over last few days, reviewing multiple tutorials to make sure I know what I'm doing, I simply cannot get the text wrap options to work properly. In SOME instances (not all ... why?!?) I can select text wrap, but when I try to make further adjustments (wider margin or switch to object wrap, for instance), it simply does not allow selection. The choices once I'm in the text wrap box are grayed out (margins, contour box, etc) as not available. WHAT is going on?! Do I have defective software? Is it me? I've even reinstalled the whole CS4. <aarrggh> I am SO frustrated!

Things like this are almost always attributable to user error.
If you're new to InDesign I'd suggest investing in Sandee Cohen's Visual Quick Start Guide: http://amzn.to/ggnCUx
More details, screenshots, etc would help us, though.

  • Text Wrap Contour Options Not Available in CS6

So I just started using CS6, and I know from CS5 that there used to be the "Dectect Edges" option when trying to do a text wrap around an object shape. Every time I try to text wrap like this in CS6, the "contour options" menu is "greyed out," and I can't adjust my text wrap. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a screen shot below. It is happening in all of my CS6 documents, around PSDs and objects created in InDesign.

In your screen shot you have the text frame selected. That would disable the contour options. You want to select the object that you want the text to wrap around, not the frame that holds the text you want to wrap.

  • Contour Options in Text Wrap?

I am new to CS6 Indesign. However, I have gone through the Classroom in a Book by Adobe and I have searched the Lynda.com site. Please help me find the answer.
I made an object box. I put a large letter G in the box. I inserted and anchored the box in a text box full of text. I selected the object box and turned on text wrap. I selected wrap around object shape. I want the letters in the text box to wrap around the edge of the letter G in the object box, but contour options is grayed out so I cannot use those options. Why would contour options be grayed out and unavailable, and how do I accomplish my task?
    Thank you,
