TextArea and Scrollbar

Question

The following is part of my coding. Can someone tell me why the text area is not showing the scrollbar.

public class TextArea extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
     JScrollBar scr = new JScrollBar(Adjustable.VERTICAL);
     JTextArea txtArea = new JTextArea(10, 30, scr);

You never put the JTextArea in a JScrollPane (don't use JScrollBar, btw).

Typically, you would do this:
JTextArea textArea = new JTextArea(10, 30);
JScrollPane scroll = new JScrollPane(textArea);
myContainer.add(scroll);
