Textedit and preview crashing in osx lion when changing network location
I did upgrade to lion on launch and noticed that textedit and preview work quite well except when changing network location: after a few seconds of spinning ball, both crash.
Tried repairing permissions, deleting "containers" folders in my library and so on, without luck.
Anyone is experiencing the same problem?
This is an excerpt of the crash log:

UPDATE 2: I'm having this issue both on my iMac and my Macbook, so I suppose it's a lion bug and not simply something related to something that went wrong during the update (permissions or something like this). It's both in 10.7 and 10.7.1.
I'm going to try on my wife's Macbook to see if it's something related to some software or setting I'm using; in the meanwhile, can someone out there try to reproduce this issue? Just open textedit and change the network location from the menu bar (you should create one other than "automatic" for "locations" to show up just below "dock"): at this point you should get the spinning ball and then a window telling you that textedit just crashed. Try to do a couple of times if it doesn't crash the first one.
BTW I noticed that textedit doesn't crash if you have the network preference pane open and active ("system preferences" showed on the menu bar) and change the location from the menu bar.
I think I'm going to give a call to Applecare to see if there's some plan to get this corrected in some next update.

Installing Lion stops Textedit and Preview launching
Having upgraded to Lion I cannot launch Textedit or Preview properly on my Mac Pro.
I wonder does anyone else have the problem.
Indicators:
I am logged in as myself as administrator
Both Textedit and Preview crash consistently on every file, and also if you simply open either application.
OS is production 10.4. All Software Updates to date are installed.
My Macbook Pro is also upgraded. This works OK. So do other Macs on the network.
Guest account on the Mac Pro works OK i.e both programs launch properly.
If I create a new account on the Mac Pro (admin or otherwise) all works OK
So the problem is only on my account on Mac Pro
Other postings point to possible problem with symlinks(?). There don't appear to be any symlinks in my home directory. I have never used Terminal, and do not knowingly poke into system files, permissions etc. I have attempted though to follow advice from these postings but no success.
There is also some comment about Downloads folder. I have deleted all contents from this folder with no success.
I have run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility with no success.
The error message below indicates a permissions problem in Library/Containers/. I cannot find a folder called Containers. (I have looked into Library pressing the Option key and Go in Finder.)
Below is part of the error message whenlaunching Textedit.

Advice gratefullyreceived.I created another user on my system, and found I could open both Preview and Text Edit fine in that account. I copied (duplicated) the two Containers folders that were created in the new account, changed permissions on the copies using get info, and moved them over to my original user account. That worked.
However, after making some other changes related to permissions that had me spending 4 hours on the phone with Apple, issues now forwarded to engineering, I started experiencing the same error, crash on opening.
I went to those container folders (com.apple.preview and com.apple.TextEdit) and trashed their contents. After that both applications opened normally, and the missing files were recreated.
Hope this helps. -
Textedit and Preview will no longer open after the 10.7.5 update.
I haven't been able to open either Textedit or Preview since I updated my mac to 10.7.5. I've tried all sorts of things--repairing permissions, dabbling with symlinks, deleting the container subfolders for Textedit and Preview but so far nothing has worked. This is Textedit's crash report:

I'm really desperate right now, so any and all help is appreciated! I use both these applications on a frequent basis, especially Textedit, so I'd really like to get this fixed as soon as possible. You can try running the combo updater over your install but you might need to re-install Lion. Both options should not erase your data but if you do the re-install of Lion it's recommended that you backup first as a precaution.

Mail.app doesn't hava connection with imap server when changing network.
Ive got a strange problem after upgrading OSX from 10.6.8 to 10.8.4.
I have got a xserve, with osx 10.6.8. (mail) server installed on it.
When i am in the office (LAN) mail works just fine. if iam home and wake my macbook from sleeping i see in the mail app the attention mark telling my something is wrong with the mail account.
If i open the connection doctor it say's can't connect to IMAP server. if i check my iOS devices there is nothing wrong, everything is working and i can send/recieve mail. on iOS and OSX the settings are the same with SSL enabled and password type.
When i tried to telnet the mailserver address with the IMAP or SMTP port i get a connection. so, there is no firewall blokking my connection.
But now the strange thing when i quit my mail.app and start it again the mail gets connection again. So is there a problem when changing networks when the Mail.App is stil active? That's just to bad, will it be solved in a future release of OSX?
I don't know... maybe Apple will force me migrating to Mavaricks.
it seems that although w'r using DNS, the outside ip gets remebered or the connection isn't closed down properly when putting the macbook to sleep.
I can try offcource to configure the outside LANip (Non dns) in my mail client.
I will post with results.. -

Since this a problem pertaining to the iTunes application, you might have better luck posting this in the iTunes forum.

I have the latest OS 10.8.3 and just recently Mail and Preview constantly crashes when printing.
It seems that it is missing a plug in or something. Error messge is Mail quit unexpectedly when using the est-e-Filing-pdes plugin.
Same message in Preview.
Actually I have experience more crashing (with Numbers) since last update.
Can anyone help?
RaoulLaunch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -

Preview.app Crashes in OSX Lion
I have read various threads to try to fix this issue with Preview, have tried:
- Changing User Permissions (deleting, setting up 'root user', setting up again)
- Changing to using the 32bit version
- Various Terminal inputs
And Preview continues to crash on launch. Strangely, if I have an attachment in an email and double-click it from there, or a file in folder double-clicked then Preview works fine, but I can't launch it, and I can't launch any of the 'Recents' listed.
The error I get is below - can anyone give me some guidance as I've already spent a lot of time trying to fix this issue...

Mail crashes in mountain lion when printing
Hello
I have installed Mountain Lion and Mail crashes when printing. Mail itself runs fine. I tried reinstalling the printer drivers, resetting all passwords of the system, along with resetting privileges. I read through many feeds here on this situation, but nothing solved my problem – Mail keeps crashing when printing to any printerdriver or to a PDF file.
Did anyone encounter this problem?
Anyone has a fix for this?
Thanx for help
KarstenHalf a day later – all seemed to be solved – nothing goes. Mail crashes again when printing. Preview crashes as well when printing.
This looks like there is a serious bug in the OS itself, and nothing which can be cured permanently by changing some settings or updating some preferences. -

How can I upgrade to OSX Lion when I am running OSX 10.5.8?
I am currently running OSX 10.5.8 on my MacBook and have no idea how to upgrade to OSX Lion as I do not have Snow Leopard. Can anyone help? Thanks!
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Or you can wait until August when Apple will sell Lion on a USB Flash Drive for $69 -
Mail and Preview crashing upon launch
Okay, so it's just another day, and I'm launching Mail, just like I've done a million times before, but for some reason now all I get is just one bounce out of the icon in the dock, and then... nothing happens. Below, I've copied and pasted some gobbledigook from the Console log. I've discovered that Preview seems to be suffering from the same issue (the Console log reads similarly). The only other malfunction going on at the same time is my HP Scanjet 5400 scanner won't let itself be initialized.

Feb 20 09:08:35 Andy-Leahys-Computer crashdump[344]: crash report written to: /Users/andy/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.logWell, BD, I got it to reboot in safe mode. (You know, several times previously, I pulled the plug on this suggestion from you and others, as found in prior posts. This was because I failed to realize how much patience is required, while that gray Apple screen hangs there, its clock icon swirling, round, and round, and round, pointlessly, silently, ominously. This time, I dealt with the tension by leaving the house for a whole half hour, and I found a safe mode login screen upon my return. Yay!)
And, so, then I got the disk permissions repaired, using Disk Utility, as instructed.
While still in safe mode, I tried to launch Mail and Preview, but, sorry, same drill -- failure to launch. Rebooting to regular mode, and again trying to launch Mail and Preview -- still not working.
