TextEdit BG color not accurate

I've used various Apple tools for years in web designing. Recently I noticed that the Color Chart in TextEdit has a gray that is not what it claims to be. I first noticed this when I was attempting to blend some typed words and backgrounds. Specifically, under Web Safe colors in TextEdit, the GRAY labelled CCCCCC reads as D6D6D6 if you check it with the Digital Color Meter in Apple Utilities. (See jpeg of reading). It is slightly lighter than the true CCCCCC. Thus it doesn't blend when used as a background. Any ideas why this happens?

I expect you are doing your color work on the same monitor as your editing display, so you're wondering how the same clip can look different when played back in different applications. COLOR does not obey Quicktime ColorSync settings (with onboard GPUs) and is set up to deliver media appropriate for broadcast or digital cinema.
Depending on your various OS settings (Snow Leopard is the only OS to standardize a gamma 2.2 Rec709-like space across its platform), once you exit COLOR, your Quicktime movies will be once again subject to whatever "calibration" tweaks OSX has decided it needs to apply for display on your monitor, whatever it might be. There are also oddities in re-scaling and re-mapping between different Quicktime codecs that is a source of confusion among applications.
Not knowing any other details, its not possible to make any more than a general statment.

  • XZ-1 Orange color not accurate?

    Hi,
I just searched the forum, nobody seems to raise this issue yet.
I have an Olympus XZ-1, after I use Lightroom 6.4 RC for a few days, I realize that the orange color developed in RAW is noticibly different from the Jpeg color. At beginning, I thought was a difference due to the saturation and special "olympus color".
But after a careful examination, I realize the olympus color is accurate compares to the real thing, the RAW seems a bit off.
I took an example to illustrate this.
This is the JPEG version, notice the cap of the creme is orange. This color looks very close to the real thing.
This is developed in Lightroom with default setting, the cap looks yellowish.
The difference is quite huge, I need to set the yellow hue to -60 to roughly match the jpeg.
Just for an extra confirmation, the one above is developed from RAW using the default setting of Capture One. The cap color looks the same as the JPEG and the real thing.
This happens in all kind of lighting situations, might not be the white balance problem.
Can anyone have a look into this? The orange just looks like yellow.
    Regards,
    Luke

With the Adobe Standard profile, Adobe's job is not trying to duplicate camera processing in P mode as you say.  It is going for a look that is consistent across all the camera brands and models it has dealt with over the years, and historically probably geared toward commercial magazine and catalog print output where clothing colors being correct for the end consumer are the most important, so using Adobe Standard probably won't produce images like the in-camera JPGs.
For Canon and Nikon cameras and a very few others, Adobe makes some effort to replicate in-camera JPG processing with additional "camera-match" profiles.  Because your camera is from a less common manufacturer, Adobe has chosen not to produce camera-matching profiles for it, and you're left to beg from others or create your own with third-party color-targets and software.
You will find that producing your own color profiles with an x-rite color checker passport may also not match the in-camera JPG, since you're not involving JPGs in the process, only RAWs converted to DNG.  But it should make the colors look more correct as far as the original scene, to the extent that using a 18-color-patches + 6 grays can cover the full spectrum of color, and this correctness may or may not be right for a particular scenario.
I helped with a wedding last summer and dutifully took a few shots of the color checker at various points in the church to get the mixture of daylight, artificial light, and a touch of multi-colored stained-glass coloring things here and there.  However, I ended up using Adobe's Camera-Standard (camera-match) profile for my Canon DSLR, because my own custom profiles brightened the colors too much.
Specifically, the church had neutral-colored walls along the sides, and various colors of artificial high-pressure lighting overhead, and one set of bulbs in particular had an ugly yellowish cast, so wherever this artificial lighting was close to the wall, there was a yellowish area compared to the more bluish diffused daylight elsewhere.  For this particular shoot, it was more important to minimize the saturation of this ugly yellow area than it was the have all the colors correct.
I was able to almost neutralize the yellowish areas by selective HSL adjustments in LR where by using the Camera-Standard profile there was less of this color to remove so it was easier.  Had I not taken so many pictures, and had more time to experiment, I might have found a set of tweaks to the RGB adjustment sliders beneath my own custom profile would have also minimized the yellowish area, but I spent my time perfecting various things for each photo, rather than perfecting the color profile for all of them.  In this photoshoot, having the correct colors was less important than having pleasing photos.
Most of my photos are natural scenes, outdoors so I almost always prefer my own custom profile(s) for these.

  • Creating PDF from Word 2010 and Acrobat X Colors Not Accurate

    I'm puzzled by this one.
When we print the documents directly from Word 2012 the colors print correctly.
When we use the one click button in the ribbon. PNG files convert well, Illustrator EPS files do not. We use a logo that has Pantone Process Blue and it turns aqua.
I have tries many different setting and none convert correctly. I can make nice small files of these brochures for use on the internet, but the color is not good.
If I use the File Print to Acrobat then it converts the colors well, but the files are larger. Trying to reduce the file size as a second step does not change the file size.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Though, I'm unclear at 'when I go to print it, it blows up from about 50KB to 10MB' but could you please check the file size of the PDF soon after conversion? You can find it under File->Properties->General Tab. It shouldn't automatically increase the file size at the time of printing.
Would you be able to attach the file (if it's not confidential)?

  • Raw Conversion: Colors not accurate. Correction with profile?

    Hi,
When I create JPGs from my Raw files, the results don't look natural. Some colors have more saturation, some less. For example, the colors of the KoMi A series look somehow dirty; the reds of the Maxxum 5D seem to be oversaturated (dark reds are to bright, brown faces look rather pinkish).
This is in comparison to the orignal objects, to the JPGs generated from the KoMi Raw converter and to the in-camera JPGs.
Since Lightroom has tremendous color tuning options (under HSL and Color), I wonder whether a camera-specific profile can make the colors more natural. Has anybody tried for the KoMi cameras? Can anybody share a profile?
I don't have a color checker, so this would be a tough one for me. I tried a bit, but whenever one color seemed right, another color had become worse.
    Here is my equipment:
Cameras: Konica Minolta A2, Minolta A1, Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D.
Other: My room has fluorescent tubes of type 950 (5000K, highest quality, Philips Graphica Pro) or of course daylight from outside. My screen is calibrated using ColorPlus hardware. I used a grey card for most of my photos. JPGs viewed with IMatch (color-profile aware).

    Hallo Uli,
there are two aspects of the color deviation:
    1. Displaying colors in LR
This is what you are addressing in the other thread. I can confirm this behavior, but let's not touch this matter here.
    2. Raw conversion
This is what I am talking about in this post. The effect is actually larger than the display deviation.

  • Printer quality/colors not accurate since installing Yosemite

I recently upgraded to OS 10.10, Yosemite. I can no longer get accurate colors printed for photos from Photoshop. I have Photoshop CS4 and I use an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer. I am able to use Photoshop for everything but printing accurately. I downloaded all recommended drivers for the printer, reloaded profiles for the printer and even tried a trial of Photoshop CC. Nothing resolves the problem. My prints look kind of solarized. Black and white photos have green areas where there should be black. Please help.

    Try resetting the printing system.

  • Photoshop Vista Nvidia - color management issues - working colors not accurate

Today I updated Vista and the NVidia 3300 driver got upgraded as well. Earlier today, everything was working great with colors within Photoshop. After the update, my colors in Photoshop (and Illustrator) are shifted brown. My grey scale has varying degrees of brown. Reinstalled NVidia drivers without success. All other colors on desktop and other programs (Flash included) are fine. Also, a bizarre thing is when I prep a file for the web, the colors look good.
    Please help!
    Thanks! Chris

The NVidia desktop system is an invasive piece of bloatware, so I usually
remove it, being careful to leave the latest video driver in place.
    Two possibilities -
    1) the NVidia driver update included a profile. To verify this, go into
Start>Settings>Display>Advanced>Color Mgmt. and verify that the profile
selected there is the one you had before. If you are not sure what was
there before, add sRGB and select it as the monitor's default profile.
    2) the NVidia driver is loading the LUT at startup time.
If you have calibrated your system, any combination of these two will throw
things off. If you have not calibrated, then the problem is more likely to
    be #1 above.

  • Color not accurate after render...

I'm not sure if i have some settings that are wrong or my color grades are 'bad' but after I do my color grading and then render it back to FCP, or just watch it as a QT movie, the color of the clips are not the same as what is shown on the scope.
Its never a huge difference, with the project I am working on now the clips seem to always come out redder... and slightly darker/contrasty. There are other differences with other clips too.
Exporting as Apple ProRes 244 HQ
IPF: 8-bit (Not to sure what this is thought)
If anyone can inform me if this is normal or just some advice on the matter please

  • When i print out a color photo the colors are not accurate

I have a new envy110 series CQ811A. I have a windows 7 64-bit laptop. There are no error messages and the Envy works great but when i print a picture off of a web site the colors are not accurate and i mean none of them. i have returned one printer already but this one is doing the same thing. i really like this printer but if it won't print the colors correctly  i don't know what i will do. I also have a HP C4280 All In One Photo Smart and whatever is printed off the colors are great it just is not wireless. I have tried everything and nothing helps. Is there a solution

    Hi easyneez5!
Sorry to hear it's not printing web pages so well.
I do have a suggestion, that may or may not align with the way your are used to printing web pages; HP has a new and improved application for printing web page content; HP Smart Print.
It's supported on IE (most versions) and can do some neat tricks: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/partner/microsoft/bing-bar-for-hp/smart-print.html
There are also other potential 'tweaks' you can try in the [Printing Preferences] / [Advanced]: Image Color Managment; You might try setting it from 'ICM Handled by Host System' (default) to 'ICM Handled by Printer' or even 'ICM Disabled'.
Again, this is merely a potential way to check to see if this helps get those colors right; and remember your settings before you change them.
      Hope this helps

I'm (being lazy and) using the older RT app posted on your last thread. I removed the
TimeNow timer from the RT class and used System.currentTimeMillis (as you requested) to
determine the elapsed time during the animation (see "startTest", "stop" and
"movingObject" methods). Also changed the DecimalFormat to NumberFormat and set the
"maximumFractionDigits" to "2" so it will truncate the fraction to two digits (more simple
than before). Made arrangements for the ShapeMovingPanel class to update the
"timerJTextField" during the animation (RT.updateTime method).
The MouseMotionListener is causing the animation to appear jerky and uneven. The
"mouseMoved" method is very busy while the mouse is moving. You might consider recording
the "mousePressed" events instead of the "mouseMoved" events, ie, the events where the user
is attempting to click inside the moving shape. It would allow the app to be more
responsive and might eliminate the uneven motion of the animating shape.

  • Element 5.0 Color not right

When I open a picture in Windows XP in "My Pictures" it open with the
    right face color.
When I open the same picture in Picasa 2, the face color are the same
    as in "My Pictures" OK
But when I open the same picture in Photo Shop Element 5.0 it has an orange glow to all of the picture.
    Any help would be appreciated

Picassa2 and most browsers are not Colour Managed. Photoshop including Elements is a Colour Managed program. The significance being that Elements attempts to render the colours on screen correctly according to something known as a Monitor Profile and the Colour Profile of your image. These are used by the program to translate the colour numbers from your image to those needed by the screen to get the colours looking right.
If your Monitor Profile is not accurate then this translation may go wrong and the colours may not look right. This may be your case.
Picassa2 doesn't use the Monitor Profile and as it happens the colour numbers in your image may be approximately right for your screen without any translation.
When ever problems like this occur you should Calibrate and Profile your monitor using something like a Huey, Eye-one or Spyder. These devices actually measure the output of your monitor to make an accurate profile. Unfortunately these cost money, so in the first case you could try and make sure that you have run any installation disk that came with your monitor as this may install a generic Monitor Profile. This wont make any difference to Picassa but may help Elements.
Within Elements there are 4 options available under Edit>Colour Settings:-
    1. No Colour Management - I wouldn't really advise using this one but if you do it should make your images look like you see them in Picassa - but only if your images are in a Colour Space called sRGB. Other Colour Spaces could well come out wrong.
    2. Optimise for Screen - if your image has a Colour Space (e.g sRGB) then this setting has no effect. If your image doesn't include a Colour Space then Elements assigns sRGB to it - which may be right or wrong. New documents created in Elements get to be in sRGB
    3. Optimise for Print - same as #2 but substitute AdobeRGB for sRGB.
    4. Allow me to Choose - if your image doesn't have a Colour Space then you get a warning and can choose from sRGB or AdobeRGB.
If you are new to this then I would recommend choosing Option 2. You could of course use Option 1 - No Colour Management - to get the same appearance as Picassa but you may then have problems later with some other images.
    Hope this helps.

In iPhoto '11: Select the photo in the "Faces" stack, open the "Info" panel, click on the face name in the "faces" brick and then on the name below the face to edit the name.

  • Search results are not accurate

    hi,
am facing a unique issue in SP 2013. Whenever we search for a search criteria the results returned is not accurate always. Every time we navigate across pages, the search results change which is not
a desired behavior. However we also noticed that the refiner panel does not change as well and it retains the old count which leads to inconsistent results when user selects a criteria from the refiner.
any pointers /  helpful links  regarding this issue, if any anyone has surfaced,  is highly appreciated!

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that search results are not accurate.
I recommend to run a full crawl and then to check whether the search results are correct.
If your incremental crawl is running, it may happen that, when you are viewing the data in the search result web part, the newly added content are not crawled yet.
So, after the content are updated, wait for some time.
Let your incremental crawl finish. Then view the results on the page.

  • Spot colors not showing correctly in acrobat 11

Spot colors not showing correctly in the output preview as well as the page correctly. I have a spot pms
295 on a page in a few different areas of text and backgrounds. The spot color shows on 1 of my backgrounds
and text and a spot color on another background does not. These items are on the same page. Although I
can use the eyedropper to check the color of these items and it states the spot color is present. The page
also prints correctly. Previews not happening.

I included 3 screen shots from Acobat 11 of the test requested. Also, included the last screen shot from Acobat 9 of same file.
Which shows correct preview. To eliminate possible ICC profile issue. I did change profiles to all that were in the profile list
with no change in either test.

  • Colors not printing correctly. Only blue and black work.

I just got a new HP OfficeJet all in one inkjet 8620 printer. The colors aren't printing correctly. Everything comes out light blue with black lettering. I tried installing new cartridges (genuine HP) and also tried gently shaking the cartridges. But the problem persists.

    Hi @Iolanthe ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the colors not printing correctly. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
I have provided a document with some steps to try to see if that will resolve the issue.
Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, and 8660 e-All-in-One...
Please let me know the results of the Print Quality Diagnostic Page?
If the test pages are printing properly, it could be a software issue.
What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 8620)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Let me know how the printer name was listed.
From the application, make sure you are selecting the proper paper type.
Try another application to see if you have the same issue.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.
